I sat at the bar and watched roaches crawl over the floor. I understand that it's nyc, but when it takes 30 min to get an overcooked burger and there are roaches crawling, there's no excuse. The bartender was nice, but I wouldn't recommend. read more

Just popped in here for a quick snack. It isn't really a cafe, more like bar food. I ordered potato salad (very bland) and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were good, not homemade though. Rarely do I walk out of a place but the service here was terrible. We sat at a table and were completely ignored. The server went to both tables next to us and I thought oh she'll be back by to give us a menu or even acknowledge us, but no she decided to go to the end of the bar and start watching TV. We left after that. There was no music or anything there either so the ambiance was kind of bland. read more

I went on a Thursday night around 9:00 and it was busy but we were able to get a booth pretty quickly. I got a cheeseburger with a side of fries and they were both really good. After our server gave us our drinks though he never came over again, he forgot my friend's drink which would've been fine if he had come back near us but we didn't see him again until we had to catch his attention to get the check. It was really busy inside and I'd go back but I wouldn't sit at a table unless it was earlier. Seems like a good spot to go out on the weekend. read more

The cow might as well have been killed twice for how long they cooked my burger. Ham & cheese was cold with the cheese becoming solidified again after it was previously melted. Fries weren't even attempted to be crispy just mediocre and bland. Basically just mediocre diner food with a higher price tag. Mosquitos were everywhere, no ambiance, bathrooms were held together by duct tape, I imagine the food here tastes quite average if you're insanely wasted on a Tuesday afternoon. Don't let appearances deceive you- Peter McManus Café might look like an average pub from the outside- it's more of a divey bar feel inside. Despite the faint Pine Sol in the air topping McManus' stale scent, my close group of coworkers liked their burgers and I also liked my Garden Veggie one after we'd finished a Rum event not far off. On 7th & 19th St, McManus was referred by someone who had just eaten here after our nearby event and used hand gestures to describe her "big juicy burger". I had two other desirable restaurants in mind, but...here we are. Our Mozzarella Sticks starter was very good actually. Sticks weren't fancy whatsoever, but the melty, gooey factor was all there. McManus may not earn a Michelin star in this lifetime- but these folks have glowing reviews and voted as best burger in NYC several years ago. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Wouldn't know as I don't eat red meat. But they did look juicy when my coworkers dove in. My Garden burger wasn't the best or worst I've had- but it filled that void after sampling so many different types of rums. Still the most solid in town. I haven't been here in a few years, and when I did frequent this incredible place I'd come alone, as I did today. My friends aren't of the same mindset about restaurants, which is an unfortunate loss for them. I do understand it's a bit of a schlep to MSG from here, but my newish apartment is within walking distance. So I'll be back more often. Everything about this place is original and perfect. Dark paneling and long bar with stained glass is warm and comfortable. Classic movies on the tellie add to the charm. Everyone who works here has always been super friendly and that tradition continues with the new crop of barkeeps and wait staff. Today's lunch harkens back to my early '80's staple of Roast Beef with mashed and potatoes. I recall with great fondness how many now-defunct restaurants used to serve this dish, but none of them ever could whip up such tender and flavorful food as here. AND serve it at a reasonable price. I am a vintage NY snob. These walls and floor and bar and tables and banquettes and stained glass harken to the ole NY I remember as a kid. I wish there were more of them, particularly those I frequented back in their heyday. But one so conveniently located suffices just as well as 10. Thank you for still existing. Awesome New York bar with a friendly crowd. We grabbed a cheeseburger which we were hoping to share between the two of us. They had it cut in half and prepared on two separate plates for us which was very nice of them. The prices are reasonable as far as New York goes and I'd be happy to come back. But what made me want to come back more was the fact that the fourth round of drinks was free! We ended up staying a bit longer because of this which we were happy to do. read more

The service and the ambiance were fantastic! I had the best night here. The staff was great, the chicken fingers were awesome.

No one came by to greet us or take our order. Several staff members walked past our table without saying a word. After about 10 minutes with no acknowledgment, we left. As bad as service has gotten since the pandemic, I can't remember the last time I actually had to walk out of a place because of it. Disappointing, especially since it wasn't that busy. If you do try it, maybe sit at the bar so the bartender has to serve you. read more

Peter McManus is very consistent. The woman behind the bar seemed to be serving the whole pub, but she was handling it as best she could and displayed the best attitude she could. Fortunately, it was an early Sunday evening and the patrons had not slammed the place. I ordered a nice draught pint and the chicken wings, extra crispy, which they were. However, they could accompany them with a few carrot and celery sticks for the great blue cheese dip. The bed of shredded lettuce had to do. The kitchen was again in good form, when I ordered the grilled Reuben with fries. Food here is not skimpy and I had half the Reuben and fries to go. There are better Reubens in this City, but your attention here is on the televised sports, conversation with your date or friends, people watching, or the Irish pub scene generally. The value proposition is well and good here. I ordered the pork chops and lamb chops to go with mashed potatoes, broccoli and salad. Both are delicious, even better than the lauded Reuben actually. Add in another beer and the bill topped out just under a Benjamin before taxes and tip, again we are in Midtown or Chelsea. Two things: Their website does not work if you want delivery and they only answered the phone once for delivery; though, I have tried several times. Some may not like the narrow men's restroom, but this is a pub in a city with plenty of small facilities and this is not a fancy establishment. Come and enjoy yourself. read more

Peter McManus Cafe has been open for 87 years, and it looks it...not in a necessarily negative way, it just looks its age. Rather than Cafe, PMC looks more like a pub or "bar and grill". Sitting down in the front bar portion, one can feel the past and imagine what the "walls have seen" over the almost 90 years of pints poured and burgers slung. The walls were adorned with old pictures and letters, and there were telephone booths by the corner of the bar. We went there for lunch and it was decently filled with a mix of locals and tourists there for lunch or just a few drinks. The bartender handled the front tables in addition to the barstools. He was a loud-laughing friendly helpful guy, who was born for the business...a natural. I had the Pop Pop burger with tater tots. Pop Pop is a 50-25-25 blend of ground chuck, brisket and short rib, A relatively simple burger with cheddar cheese, onion and pickle that is not "gourmet" with all sorts of cheffed up toppings; it's just a satisfying juicy two napkin burger. That tots were frozen but fried nicely crispy in a way that made it hard to stop eating them. From the outside, and perhaps the inside if you're "dinge" adverse, it may seem to be a dive bar but it really is not...it has character to spare. read more

Nice place burgers are great but you really have to be careful what you order here, I usually get a burger but I decided to get the chicken fingers instead, big mistake they burned a chicken Cutlet to a crisp and just cut it in strips and call it chicken fingers, terrible, also I'm not sure how often they clean their beer lines I ordered a Stella on tap and it was undrinkable, if you go here stick to the burgers and mixed drinks or a bottle beer read more

The burgers here are amazing and definitely worth updating my review from years ago. Award winning in the city and with Time Out. Both enormous and cooked to order but they add a layer of cheese on the top AND on the bottom bun. Rarely have my innocent eyes beheld such a thing of gluttony. Steak fries additionally are truly the best form of a french fry. If you don't agree and are on that crinkle cut wave path of life . . . we may not be friends. Also, the staff here has always been pretty awesome. Jukebox selection is plethoric of songs. We were wondering recently how this bar isn't a landmark yet in the city. read more

Although I like the old time feel, the interior furniture needs a reboot in my opinion with better lighting. In the modern era designs and seating need to be more functional. I had a cheeseburger deluxe with chicken rice soup which was delicious as usual. The waitress has been there for many years and was very helpful. This spot is the quintessential NYC pub, and a perfect spot to while away an afternoon in Chelsea. We took a seat with a couple of drinks on their outside picnic table in the sun, making for some of the best people-watching in town. Nothing fancy, but the bartender is friendly and helpful, and the whole spot has an old-school vibe, all the way down to our order being written out on paper instead of automated. A great value and good pub food. They have what appears to be over a hundred whiskeys and a ginormous beer selection. The owners, who still operate it are so friendly and accommodating you won't believe you are in Manhattan and not Dublin. It is calm at lunchtime and in the evening it is mayhem, but the loud customers are friendly and jolly. Their sandwiches and burgers are excellent and you can get steak fries, 'Tater tots, onion rings or house made potato salad. it is One of the few places to get Knockwurst with sauerkraut and beans. House made chili is on the menu too. Pork chops and steaks are a bargain. The decor is the old original with old lighting fixtures that no longer exist. I cannot believe it took me this long to try this pub. I'm glad we finally did. Warning, be hungry, be very hungry. read more

Decent standard pub fare, with a very kind bartender/server. The mish-mash of interior decorating styles in this place makes it very comfortable (bowling trophies, family photos in old school frames next to beer signs and mirror art). I ordered the chicken fingers, husband had the famous cheese burger, and friend had the reuben sandwich, and clearly we all had tots. The chicken fingers are interesting, they're not breaded in the way that lets says... buffalo wild wings would bread their chicken. It's a very light breading. Other than that, they were fairly middle of road but it was a large serving. The tots were good, nice and crunchy and not overcooked. Husband said the cheeseburger was good, though not entirely sure he'd warrant saying it's award winning. Our friend enjoyed her reuben as well. What this place really has going for it is that it's a neighborhood bar with nice people and quick service. An ice cold beer with some tots and being treated well, even if you're not from around here, is very nice! read more

A great bar with great food and a great staff and great regulars right in the heart of Chelsea. The burgers are blue ribbon. The wings are top notch too. The menu is what you'd expect from an Irish pub billing itself as a cafe. There's a nice selection yet not overwhelming. Just an all around great spot. All the staff are great and the good folks who tend the bar are awesome. The decor is comfortable and worn in; you're immediately at ease once you step in no matter what your day has been like so far. You will not be disappointed if you want to grab a few drinks with a friend after work, grab a bite to eat in the back or hang out at the bar where no one is a stranger.
