Fairfax Memorial Park is very efficient. That is the nicest thing that I can say about them. When my uncle (age 100) died, they handled the arrangements and service at their lovely chapel. We had around 100 people, including family from 3000 miles away, so we were all huggging and crying after the service. The woman in charge rushed us out like a drill sergeant because they had another service right after ours. It was brutal, and she could not have been more rude. The burial park is nice (even though they screwed up my uncle's headstone--a crooked date on my uncle's grave). But if you're lookng for sympathy and concern, make plans for your loved ones to go somewhere else. I certainly have. read more

Like all human beings, I've lost a lot of family and friends on the ride of life. Do not feel sorry for me, as while it's the worst experience to lose a child, there are others who've gone through this more recently. My heart is with each and every one of them, as while you never will get over it, you can get through with love and resilience. Fairfax Memorial way extremely gracious and kind during that horrible nightmare in 2009. They go above the standard, when it comes to children or anyone else. If not mistaken Patricia was her name, and the funeral director were authentic and compassionate. This is family owned and operated. For peace of mind, or an unexpected death, these folks are exemplary. I spend time at my son's grave, other children, and people I've known over the years here. The grounds are immaculate. There are so many beautiful trees and views, that allow a safe spot for grieving. I forgot which religious figure said "the most profound act of love is grieving." Here you or family and friends, can find a semblance of respect and peace at Fairfax Memorial. Also they are excellent with regards to communication. I'd like to tip my cap of respect for the 9/11 memorial. It's among the areas best, and a fitting tribute to our fellow Americans. read more

The worst experience. And at a time when one needs understanding. The cemetery is very pretty. But that's the only good thing. Our mother died in March 2022, 13 years after our father. So when she was buried, the headstone was already in place with our family name, and my father's name with birth date and death date. My mother's name was on it with her birth date. All that was needed was to add the death date. We were told at the time it would take 2 months, 3 at the most. Our calls started after 4 months. We had to call literally over a dozen times. "The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing" comes to mind. Each person gave us a totally different story as to what happened. "The manufacture lost the order," was a favorite. "It's on the FedEx truck but for some reason they didn't deliver it," was another, followed a few days later by "Well, FedEx never pick it up." And then, when at 8 months we were told a "rush" would be put on it...at no extra cost to us. Gee. How caring. With each call the excuses (aka lies) got greater and greater. And many calls were not returned. FINALLY ,after 9 months, and MUCH aggravation, lies, and constant calling, her dates were put in. Shame on them. Incompetence level was the highest we've ever experienced. read more

When my husband died 8 years ago, I was totally unprepared for it. We had made no plans, or even discussed our own funerals or burials. While grieving, in shock and denial, and with the help of my grown daughter we were able to secure two burial plots at Fairfax Memorial Park, one for my husband and one next to him for my future use. To be honest, I don't remember a lot of what happened the first few days after my husband's death, but I do remember how well everything was handled in regards to the cemetery plot purchase and burial. Grief has many stages, one of them being anger. I too went through a period of time when I was angry because of the loss of my husband. As I look back on this experience, I can only imagine what a difficult job it must be to work at the cemetery, dealing with everyone in their different stages of grief. Throughout the entire process the staff at Fairfax Memorial Park were friendly, honest and professional. The cemetery grounds really are maintained impeccably. Each season at Fairfax Memorial Park has it's own qualities and beauty. I've spent many hours visiting in the cemetery. I find peace and closure knowing my husband's life has been memorialized in such a respectful manner. Someplace myself, my children, and grandchildren can visit and remember. So here's a couple of Do's and Don'ts regarding Fairfax Memorial Park: Do: If you have anything other than a quick question that can be answered by phone, it's best to schedule an appointment. The office can get very busy (they have multiple services almost every day) so make sure you get one on one, uninterrupted time, with the counselor that's been assigned to your family. Do: Think ahead. Since my husband's death, 2 of my siblings have purchased burial plots near mine and so has my daughter and her husband. They received discounts by doing this. Don't: Put out flowers that are so expensive or special that it would sadden you if they weren't there the next time you visit. Remember, this is a public space. It took me a while to figure this out, especially during my "guilt" phase of grief. During the hot Summer months, I've actually seen crows yank flowers out of vases just so they could drink the water in the vase. I highly recommend Fairfax Memorial Park. read more

The gentleman picked up the phone from the mainline was not particularly courteous and did not make you feel you are the customer. I visited this park twice and they seem to be well maintained. Where's the guestbook?! The funeral director Rachel Harris did not show empathy for the services I went to for my uncle from the very beginning. When I arrived, she told us to take our seats, the service was going to start. We waited five minutes for the priest to start, enough time to sign the guestbook. She was rushing the whole service, which felt like she was a waiter for turnaround. She assured us that we could sign the book after the burial, when i got back to the actual funeral home it was no where to be found. A receptionist tried looking for said book but to no avail thanks for trying. There was a feeling of apathy from certain staff. read more

My mother passed in April and was to be buried in a pre-purchased plot next to my father. I called from the funeral home (located elsewhere) and was given an appt with Kevin C. for the next day. Empathy is not Kevin's strong suit, and there is a reason his LinkedIn profile lists all his sales awards - he (and all the others in his role) is a salesman. I'm not exactly certain of the need for a separate vault, but I bought one for my mom. That is neither here nor there. The following week the graveside service went well, though the vault I purchased in black and gold ended up being white and black. I checked the receipt I was given and no color choice was shown, though I distinctly remember saying I wanted a vault exactly like the sample I was shown, which was black and gold. The day after the funeral, Kevin sent me an email asking me to approve a photo of the plaque indicating my mother's birthdate and death. I replied with a correction and a question regarding the bronze plaque and got no response. I replied again the next day and got no response. I replied a total of six times with no response and I finally replied indicating I was going to write an online review. Apparently all it takes to get Kevin to respond once he's got his commission is the threat of a bad review - I finally got a response. My mother and father chose Fairfax Memorial Park and bought their plots in 1989. My father was buried there in 1997 and my mother in 2021. The lack of responsiveness, empathy, and compassion was very disappointing. If you haven't yet chosen your burial location for you or your loved one, look elsewhere. Though Fairfax Memorial Park is attractive and well-maintained, the people there make it very clear they are just out to make a buck. Very, very disappointing. read more

I guess if everything runs smoothly you think this place is fine but wait until you have an issue. Everyone in the office has a different answer. After waiting beyond the 2-3 months that they expected my mother's date of death plaque to be received and installed, we inquired where was it. It took more than one phone call to get an answer. Then the answer was to blame the manufacturer for losing the order, so wait another 2-3 months which we did. Still no plaque. From that point on, different family members called and each kept getting a different story. They either didn't know what was going on or some were lying. What was more frustrating than the plaque being so delayed was dealing with the office and trying to find out why this was such a difficult issue to resolve. Finally, 8 1/2 months after her burial the date plaque was received and installed. All's well that ends well but we certainly didn't care for the treatment we got while waiting, no one ever stayed on top of this, we always had to keep calling and reminding them. Well, everything was already paid for so I guess it wasn't a priority to them. read more

One of my earliest memories was watching the Redskins win their last Super Bowl against the Buffalo Bills. I was at my baptismal ninong's (godfather's) house and it was arguably one of my happiest memories as a child. Now that he is no longer with us, I make it a point, no matter how busy I am, to visit his grave before the first Redskins game of the year. Every year, I come to the Fairfax Memorial Park Office for directions on how to get to his final resting place. My family recently needed the services to obtain a memorial for our mother at a well known cemetery on Burke Station Road in Fairfax, VA. My mother had already purchased one many years ago; but we wanted something a bit more personal. I originally contacted the cemetery to start the process; they had made a couple of cold-hearted statements that truly shocked me. One was "Your mother can't sign; she's dead", the other was "You don't need to write a book". I explained to the cemetery representative exactly what we wanted; she sent me a design without what we wanted; and after a couple of days I contacted Eastern Memorial in Manassas, VA. The staff at Eastern Memorial could not of been more helpful, professional and compassionate to us. Within one hour they were able to design this new memorial in front of me and we were finished; or so I thought. The cemetery then delayed the entire process for three weeks by needing this form; no we now need that form; etc. and accused me of stealing their design and going to an outside vendor. They never designed what our family wanted. I had been in the Funeral/Cemetery Industry for 35 years; and their behavior is an embarrassment to the profession. Eastern Memorial provides a service with respect and dignity as well as affordable pricing. Some cemeteries bank on "Emotional Spending", I strongly urge anyone in need of this service to contact Eastern Memorials. The memorial came out beautiful and represents what our mother meant and means to our family. read more

My parents did what I consider to be a very loving act. They planned ahead so when their time came I didn't have to think about what they wanted. I'm so glad they chose Fairfax Memorial Park. The staff were friendly and helpful and the grounds are beautiful. My parents even pre-purchased the memorial plaque. So I knew exactly what they wanted. No guessing or second guessing what they might want. My parents were buried together (each in their own burial plot) on the same day. Everything from start to finish went extremely smoothly. So what I've learned from this experience is that soon it will be my turn to to do what my parents did to make it easy on my family. That way when it's my turn to leave this life, my family doesn't have to deal with the "what would they have wanted?" situation. I highly recommend Fairfax Memorial Park. It may be family owned and family operated but it is NOT family focused - if you're considering a plot here, make damn sure it is NOT close to the cemetery roads because the service crews will throw away your flowers if there is a service in the same area. It could be done by maintenance or funeral service crews but if there is a service in your area, your floral arrangements WILL be thrown away. Family focused is a laugh - if you complain enough, they will grudgingly tell you to take something cheap from their pitiful silk flowers choices there - this happens on average twice a year so save yourself the trouble and choose a plot far away from the roads. Upon talking to personnel, we have discovered that flowers are taken out when other plots are prepared for burials but the flowers are not secured to their respective gravesites, a clear sign of incompetence and indifference by Fairfax Memorial staff. Office personnel say there is nothing that can be done because of windy days and inclement weather but this is a case of indifference by these people because the most recent arrangements were in VERY tight. Grounds crews need to be held accountable when they remove flowers to return them to the proper gravesites because those silk floral arrangements aren't cheap. Remember, "family owned and operated, etc." means they have no problem telling you to kiss off because they have no board of directors to answer to - it's a shame my fiancée went up there without me because you'd be seeing in on TV if I was there. read more

My sister died in February, 2017. She had preplanned her funeral but died before she was able to arrange her burial. With the help of my funeral director and his brother (family friends), I was recommended to Fairfax Memorial Park, a family owned and well maintained cemetery. When I made arrangements for her burial, I was advised that I would be able to be buried with her and that there was a sale I could take advantage of in April, which I did. In addition, if I obtained a memorial stone within 45 days of burial, there was an additional sale on the price of the stone. Since I have no living relatives in this area, I now feel at ease that my burial arrangements are secure as well. Our plot is located in a pretty area where there is a lot of peace and quiet, just what 2 old ladies want. I am truly grateful for the service I received at Fairfax Memorial and their prompt attention and assistance in helping me make final arrangements for my sister and me. read more

Ron guided me through the entire process and was extremely helpful and patient. He is very professional, and made a decision-making process that I was dreading into one that was worry free. My deceased daughter's birthday is Nov.18th. Fairfax Memorial removes all floral arrangements twice a year. The time frame for removing flowers in the fall is within an approximate 5 day time frame of her birthday. I went to the cemetery to put flowers out and saw that none had yet been removed. These were two arrangements, one in a vase (plastic to comply with their rules) and one for her memorial vase arrangement. These were not cheap flowers. They were beautifully arranged and clearly fresh. I also left notes saying that today was her birthday and please do not take them away IN BIG LETTERS BECAUSE IT WAS HER BIRTHDAY. I came back later and they were gone. Went to the office and the guy just shrugged his shoulders saying "they don't read notes". Meanwhile, other fresh gravesites had flowers wilting away and they were left. My daughter is in a columbarium and I am amazed they had no trouble removing my FRESH, COSTLY floral arrangements, but managed to leave ALL the leaves on the cement where the sides of the walls don't face the road. Of course, I get it...you can't see that side from the road. So sorry that we have 4 niches on that wall and are stuck there for eternity. read more
