The Library is OPEN! The collection looks great and there are so many materials other than books that you can borrow for 3 weeks and more if you renew. You can borrow wifi hotspots and print wirelessly by sending it by email or send it through the solanolibrary.com website. One of the coolest new features are NO MORE LATE FEES :) The library is inclusive and provides everyone an opportunity to study, sit and live freely; of course following behavior policies. When I have a chance I stop by the 99 cent store to pick up a pack of socks, tooth brush pack and bar of soap to donate to someone in need. It's upsetting to read people's complaints about the unsheltered community. Heartless comments, they are human and have the same rights as you. Anyhow, the three items I usually buy at the 99 cent store cost less than a Starbucks coffee. Something to consider the next time you park your car, walk in with your lap top, cell phone, and a cup from Starbucks and want to complain about someone who obviously needs some assistance in life. Let's just focus on the positives that our Library brings to our community. Enjoy the pictures!

Wow! This is a beautiful modern library. I really like the open layout with the children's section being completely separated from the adult section. It feels more like a bookstore than a library. Extremely well organized, lots of computers and efficient checkout system going on. On one side you have a row of librarians ready to check you out and on the other side, you have your self checkout machines! There were two entrance/exits. Plus they have a small Friends of the Library bookstore within the library. Also, there's a beautiful park with a giant pond, perfect place to read your book!

Solano County Library Fairfield has been an awesome establishment for me to get some quiet time and needed intellectual stimulation. I had the chance here to donate my time (for close to 6 months) to volunteer to those who needed help with literacy skills as an adult literacy tutor. The staff here have always been accommodating. My only pet peeve about this location was the cleanliness of the bathrooms as the homeless population (as well as potentially regular patrons) in the area tended to use it without regard to cleaning up after themselves. All in all, this is a great place to get educated on local events that can contribute to self-enlightenment and self-sufficiency.

This is my daughter and I's library of choice in the area. I've been coming here since as long as I can remember, and though it's changed a lot in those years - it's still got it's charm. Upon entering there's a teeny-tiny bookshop immediately to the right selling gently used books for next to nothing. Often, they'll have a roll out shelf of books right by the entrance for 99 cents or less. After walking in a bit more there's an open area with featured and new books for adults. If you keep walking straight from here, you'll go right out to the lovely little duck pond out back. The lovely little duck pond is often surrounded by duck poop, goose poop and a few homeless people. We've never had any trouble with any of the homeless though, unless you count those kids I caught smoking pot once (within eye sight of the Fairfield Police Department mind you, pretty ballsy). Back inside the library, you can go right from the main entrance to the children's section or left to the adult's section. Kid's section has featured books (typically concerning upcoming holidays or current events) right when you walk in as well as their own check out area. The check out kiosks have step stools so kids can check out their own selections (one of my daughter's favorite parts of coming here). Bilingual section of kids books is just to the left of where you walk in and the kid's restrooms are straight ahead and to the right (gotta ask the kid's librarian for the key though). I love that there's an area in the far left here where the picture books are fenced in with bookshelves. It keeps my daughter in one area, and the chairs are great for a story while we're there. Storytime divided into separate times for different age groups is offered here a few times a week as well. My daughter loved coming for that before she started school. They also have a great selection of videos and books on tape too. Adult section has a good variety of music and DVDs. There's also plenty of computers and work tables here for school work, reading or just loitering in the library if that's your thing. This area seemed huge when I was a kid, and I still feel it's a great size. If they don't have what you're looking for, ask a librarian. They can order from all the area libraries and you can return their books to any library in their network as well. Pretty neat, huh? This place has books, a whole bunch of 'em. The librarians are helpful and polite too. Take your children here and spend 30 minutes at least exploring the kid's section or fattening up the ducks out back. Great way to spend an afternoon! BIG SIDE NOTE - I've been coming with increased frequency to this library over the last 5 years (my daughter is a bookworm). In that time there's been no less than 4 books that I've returned but have received emails saying I didn't. Typically, this is cleared up with them walking over to the shelf, finding the book and actually scanning it in like they were supposed to when I returned it. Just a bit of an annoyance since the self check-out machines will block you from checking out anything new when there's a past due item on there. There's actually been once where I returned a book that as far as I know, vanished after it went through the slot outside. The lady was unable to find it on the shelves, but took it off my account. This may never happen to you, but since it's happened to me this much it's worth mentioning.

The WOW bookstore is open several days per week. It sells donated, used books, CDs, etc., and it is staffed by volunteers. I signed up to volunteer, and was really excited to learn more about donating time to the Book Store and its Board of Directors, as discussed with Volunteer Coordinator Michelle. However my experience when attending the group orientation onsite was met with prejudice and discrimination by Director Cathy. When I arrived for orientation the library staff at the Information Desk directed me to the bookstore located inside and to the right. However the bookstore door was locked. I could see the lights were on and someone was inside so I tapped lightly on the door. Cathy unlocked the door slightly, and looked at me sternly. We were face to face - less than 1 foot apart. I introduced myself, advised I was referred by Michelle, and was there for Volunteer Orientation. Another new volunteer walked up behind me, and said she "was here for the same thing." This volunteer remained about 2 feet behind me. Cathy smiled at her, opened the door wider, reached around and behind me, and shook the other volunteer's hand. Then while looking solely at the other volunteer Cathy told us where to find Michelle and the others (at a table 100 feet away). It was obvious Cathy didn't want to acknowledge, touch or speak with me. The other volunteer was not a woman of color. I am. And since I was clean, well groomed, and well dressed, I can only assume Cathy's indifference and lack of respect was because of a prejudice against women of color. At the very least she didn't feel I deserved the same basic courtesies she extended to the new volunteer standing behind me. Her actions said she didn't value me or my contributions. Shocked by Cathy's overt act of racism I managed to move towards and even participate in the orientation. Alhough I couldn't stop thinking about the way I had been treated. I did tour the bookstore briefly after the group session, at Michelle's urgence. She was excited that I had experience working on and with Boards, and wanted me to meet Cathy. I try to look for the good in people so I decided to give Cathy another chance. However after Michelle introduced us Cathy still didn't give me the greeting she had given my counterpart earlier. No hand shake, no greeting, no smile - just demanded, "tell me (her) about your work history" - with a snarl and superior demeanor. I stopped her interrogation-type inquiry and extended my hand stating I would like to "formally introduce myself." She shook it reluctantly. Still no pleasantries. There was no mistaking that she was speaking with me because Michelle told her someone was interested in volunteering in the bookstore and on the Board of Directors but when she saw it was me she couldn't hide her prejudice, again. I left there knowing I could not volunteer my time or services to an organization whose director looked down upon people and treated them differently because of the color of their skin. I provided feedback to Michelle, and reminded her we are a diverse nation, and expertise and contributions come in all colors. And told her that based on my experience I could not and would not be donating my time or services to FOVL WOW. As long as the Cathy's are in charge here African American or others of color won't be treated with the same dignity and respect. So that's a big no for me.

Extremely antiquated environment full of staff that are unqualified, discompassionate, AND uneducated about psychological and learning disabilities. WHICH IS THEIR ENTIRE ROLE. The only thing they can seem to enforce is extra test time---which you have to jump through hoops to schedule. This is another barrier for someone with any disabilities that affect executive functioning. The ASC is responsible for advocating for students and finding an equitable way for them to keep up with their classmates, yet is useless when handling unaccommodating professors. The judgment I've faced here by trying to find reasonable accommodations is inane. Why are you being sassy and argumentative with me when I'm asking for help? A high EQ should be mandatory for a role that involves supporting a community that is highly vulnerable to discrimination. The "Accessibility Services Center" is also incredibly disorganized and frequently don't respond to emails. I have to hound them for updates, which is difficult for a student who is already trying to manage their hectic life. They don't seem to be the most cognitively sharp when trying to "help" disabled students, nor well-versed in Section 504 of the ADA... which should be a basic requirement. I know more about my rights than this place knows left from right. The amount of times I've had to repeat a large swath of information from one person [who promised to relay info] to the next that had seemingly no idea what was going on is ridiculous. I've run into multiple people who interrupted me, spoke over me, or made an underhanded remark at the expense of my abilities. I can't tell if Solano is just hiring people off the street to staff the ASC or what. I had a phone conversation with an older woman from the ASC who was supposed to help me formulate a plan to get back on track with school, and she had no advice that couldn't be applied to a neurotypical student. When I mentioned the barriers I face, she gave a long pause and stated flatly that I should "prioritize the class" and "study more". Why didn't I think of that? I could get better advising from a stranger on Omegle. Horrific experience. 1/10

Useful items that you usually you only use once or twice. Borrowing instead of buying makes so much sense. But this library things just blew me away with its extensive collection. Pickleball? Sewing machine? Weights for weightlifting? Cookie cutters? They got it. They have day passes for state parks, museums, theaters... You don't need your own fax machine or your own printer. If you're computing needs are light, just come to the library and use their computers. The fees are so much more reasonable than buying equipment that becomes obsolete in 3 to 5 years. This particular library seems to have a fairly large collection of physical books. Of course, I zoomed straight for the cookbook and the gardening books. They have a great selection of cookbooks. I have collected cookbooks in the past. I got up to 65 before I realized: my shelves were about to collapse. I was only using each cookbook at best 3 to 5 recipes. This is when you realize you have got to clean house and use the library instead. But don't limit yourself to the physical books, remember to check the electronic resources. As far as I know, you have access to many libraries in the California system. I have memberships to many of the towns and cities where I have resided, and they have never canceled my electronic memberships. So I have access to at least three major systems. And it's a good thing I have access to online resources because by the time I picked up all the Cook books I knew I had reached my physical limits and it was time to stop. I was sucked in by the gift shop. This particular section had even more outré books. I picked up a book for fountain pen collectors, and I was about to buy a classic book from Harold McGee when I realized it was available online. Thank goodness. This was a bit too much weightlifting for me. A friend of mine once suggested a wonderful gift. For anyone who's into books, go to the library and pick out a selection of books that you would recommend highly. Your friend gets to read some great books without dealing with the space requirements. And if they don't like it, it's easy to get rid of them. Happy earth day! Here's to enriching your life without cluttering it.
