Very nice two day stay one on the way to Maine and one on the way home. Hotel was very clean and had coffee 24/7 which was nice. We were especially impressed with Anna at the front desk. Horrible experience ....we are on the first floor near the dining area and it's 12:30 am there is a full party going on in the dining area with a lot of drinking and screaming...there has to be 50 to 75 young people there...they can't all be staying here. I just spoke to the guy working at the desk at first I didn't know who was working eventually the guy who had a patriots jersey on siad he worked there...he had a name tag on....i asked him to please control the crowd...he told me they would be done at 1 am ...I told him that we had a road race in the morning and if there was going to be a full party why did they put us in a room near the dining area, the man told me he doesn't control what room we get put in it's based on availability. A warning to anyone that has to find a hotel and has no choice but to stay here ...ask not to be placed in a room near the dining area I get the feeling this is not a one time thing....the response from the Marriot staff person is completely unacceptable, we always stay at Marriotts and we have had good experiences but this is outrageous....i hope upper management looks at the video from cameras if they have them on the first floor. read more

This visit started off really badly even before it began. After booking in March, I received an email 3 days prior to arrival, letting me know that they were "finishing" their renovations. There was no indication at the time of booking that any renovation was going on. If there were, I would have booked elsewhere. I responded to that email and asked why there was no prior notice given - and to no surprise, I received no response. Well, there was no front door, no lobby, and a temporary entrance in the back of the building, surrounded by dumpsters and construction trailers. Not the most aesthetic experience, but whatever. (Mind you, all the parking is, logically, in FRONT of the building). We checked in, and the front desk person said "we have no lobby, but all our rooms are completely renovated." I thought, cool, I don't sleep in the lobby anyway. We entered what I thought was a reasonably clean room, but that changed once I looked deeper. It was about 50 degrees in the room so I quickly turned up the AC. I went to set up the iron, and when I moved the iron, there was about 10 years of dust surrounding it in it's location. I picked up the ironing board, and it literally disintegrated in my hands. The escutcheon around the showerhead was not attached to the wall, and loaded with rust and crud. The escutcheon on the safety rail in the shower was also not attached, revealing that the safety rail was also only connected to the wall with ONE screw, leaving two holes empty - and the screws weren't just missing - they were never installed, as there was no hole in the tile - can't wait until someone who NEEDS this rail tries to use it. The showerhead was clogged with years of scale and rust, causing the water to dribble out in every direction except at your body. The refillable shower amenity pumps were also empty. There were various spots of mold and grossness scattered around the bathroom too. When I left for the evening, I mentioned these items to the front desk. I returned to the room in the exact same condition. That evening in bed, the room was dreadfully warm. I set the AC back down to 70, nothing happened. I turned it down to 65, nothing happened. Apparently because it was set so low before my arrival, it was frozen. So no AC on the first night! I did go on the app and request that the shower amenities be refilled, and those were filled the next day.... but nothing else was touched. When I checked in, I was asked if I wanted daily housekeeping service. I said "yes" and did not receive any. When I inquired the next day, I was told "housekeeping is only on request." I said I did request it, and then I was promptly told "oh, it's only every two days." I'm fine with that, but was not informed, and as such, had tossed all our towels on the floor. I asked if I could get new towels, and was told yes, and that was done while I was out. So someone went to my room, but still ignored ALL the other things I reported. Day 2, the AC barely dribbled out, so it became clear why it was set at 50 when we checked in. I did the same, and we got a little cool air before it froze again and remained dead for the rest of the stay. Breakfast on the first morning was pretty good, and the male breakfast attendant was on point, keeping everything full and very clean. Mornings 2 and 3, with the female breakfast attendant, everything was empty, and the place looked like a bomb went off. I took the last HALF of a bagel left in the case, and I asked the woman if she had any more cream cheese. She sneered at me without responding and walked away. She came back a few minutes later and slammed a box on cream cheese cups on the counter, literally threw a handful into the bowl, and slammed the box into a cabinet below the counter. It's pretty evident she was not having a fantastic day. Since we had to use the rear door to enter the buidling, it's worth pointing out that there is a door on the side of the building, a bit closer to the parking area. It has a sign that says "Please use room key for entry" but this door did not work for the duration of our stay.. FORCING you to walk ALL the way around the building each time. Fortunately for my travel purposes, I didn't need to spend a whole lot of time in this building. If I did, I would be far angrier than I already am, considering the prices they are charging for this dumpy property. They have made a minimal investment in this hotel so that they can say they are "newly renovated" when in fact it's still a dump once you overlook the new carpeting in the hallway. Super disappointed, and definitely not worth the money nor the points I redeemed to stay here. read more

I spoke with a worker who confirmed they were there and days later they mysteriously came up missing. I had a slip and fall due to them not shoveling or salting their parking lot and staff didn't care just tried to cover them selves. The bathrooms have rust in the tubs. this hotel is a joke. read more

I stayed here for a business trip in July. We arrived late, and the hotel was going through some renovations. We found the check in office and there we met Crystal. This hotel is lucky to have her. She was filling in at the desk on top of her regular duty as Housekeeping Manager. She was very accommodating in showing us where breakfast was and was so excited to tell us about the renovations they were going through. This is very much "her Hotel" and she is proud of it. She even walked us to the elevator and pushed the button for us, while letting us know if there was anything we need to let her know. She is the kind of employee the company should be proud of. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I will say, if staying here, ask to not be in a room next to the ice machines. Fishermen were getting ready for their big day on the river very early and filling up large coolers. The noise of the ice dropping into their buckets was loud. Still, glad to know the hotel is accommodating to every adventure! read more

I really liked the Fairfield Inn. Location was just of the highway and easy to find with ample free parking. The Lobby during our whole stay was immaculate. They are doing some renovations to the interior of the elevator but they had signs saying excuse the appearance. The woman ask the desk was very friendly and greeted us at arrival. Our room was very clean and roomy. We had two queen beds. Sleeping was only uncomfortable due to the fact my daughter wiggled all night next me and did kicked me in the middle of the night. We stayed 3 nights and did have to ask for new towels in the morning after the first night because we were going back and forth to the Salisbury Beach. Due to Covid they are short-staffed even the front desk was helping out with the room changeovers. And I still think they did an Amazing Job! I would most definitely stay here again read more

Friendly staff here that are very wiling to go the extra mile here to make the stay comfortable. There were some downfalls here though. At night and early morning, there were no outside lights on the parking lot. That is a dangerous scene and could be an major issue in the event of attempted burglary in a vehicle or other issues. Not sure why the hotel management can't turn on the exterior lights and leave on at night or in darkness. All the time we were there, for three nights, the hall carpet and elevator carpet wasn't once vacuumed. Food was on the floor in the same spot for these days. I saw the housekeeper service on our floor once and they still did not vacuum the hall carpet and pickup the food near the elevator where ants were collecting. The room though was clean. I didn't get my typical extra pillows I requested. When we arrived the room first night, there was one partially used roll of toilet paper and no spares. We had to get extra toilet paper and towels also. Second night and for the remainder of the stay, the toilet kept backing up and we had to request a plunger for the day. The breakfast wasn't very good. First morning the food was nearly gone and wasn't much of a selection. Other than the negatives, it was a decent stop to stay for our purpose. This hotel was serviceable for what we needed. We checked in at 11 PM and we quickly given our keys. Our room was small but comfortable with a desk, queen bed, microwave/fridge, and the sink outside the bathroom. Our room was across the hall from the elevator, so there was some noise in the morning. There was a strong perfume smell to the room as if the carpets had just been cleaned or a large amount of air freshener had been used in the room. The room was old but had been give a facelift with new carpet, furniture and wall paper. The bathroom is still on the old side and there was mildew in the shower. As we were there one night, it wasn't an issue, but I don't think the room would be comfortable for a long term stay. There is a free breakfast in the lobby, but as it is still COVID, everything was prepackaged, and besides fruit, I did not see anything really fresh. There was coffee and tea in the lobby as well. This was the only COVID precaution I saw, no one was wearing a mask. read more

This Marriot was very accommodating and welcoming. The rooms were very cleanly and well kept by housekeeping and tidy. The breakfast was wonderful the staff running it was on top of refilling and replenishing the food and drinks and all forms of sustenance available for hungry guests. The coffee was very good and the children loved the hot cocoa at night. The beds were super comfortable and our whole group had a wonderful stay. We enjoyed our time at this hotel when We weren't out seeing attractions and doing things locally. read more

We just stayed this past weekend at the Marriott. It was definitely a better experience than I was expecting. The front desk person at night wasn't the friendliest but the morning person was very friendly and upbeat. The lobby area is very minimal. They have a little area to buy snacks, some free apples, water, coffee/tea. The room was a king room on the 4th floor. It was a good size room and very clean. Didn't love that the curtains didn't really fully close and no room service here. The bed, however was very comfortable, TV worked just fine. The stay includes a complimentary breakfast, but it wasn't anything special. The eggs didn't taste like real eggs, but the make your own waffles were great. Great option for a one night stay, wouldn't recommend more than 2 nights in this location, but definitely a good option for an overnight. read more

We checked in, two rooms, two nights, and both rooms had unmade beds. Called down to the front desk, they took care of it as we headed out on our first night, coming back after 11 pm. I always cut people slack, and hate wasting resources, human or otherwise, but realized when I called about the beds that I owned the determination of whether the room was clean and that only the unmade beds was the deficit. Be mindful, as a I could have easily said " isn't that your job to determine?", but I did not. And they say, "nice guys finish last", I say "humbug - nice guys are still nice as they finish", plus they gifted us 10,000 Marriott points per room! Secondly, not loving the breakfast scene: Day 1 - waffle batter runny and would not make edible waffles, wondering if the bagels are "leftovers"!?Day 2 - Sunday, less offerings, giving the guest the impression that they really don't wanna bother with breakfast, and most likely two day-old bagels were sitting out, and the front desk had beautiful yummy-looking sticky buns that weren't available to the customers. This is by far, the worst hotel experience I have ever had. After flying all night from California and driving to Newbury to visit my terminally ill brother; we checked into the Fairfield Inn to take a shower and go to bed. At that point we noticed there was something odd about our room ( 312 ). It was extremely small with a long narrow hallway leading to the tiny room. We had a hard time trying to find a place to set our suitcase on the rack. THE ELEVATOR SHAFT WAS LITERALLY IN OUR ROOM. The room was next to the elevator and it took up the first 6 feet of the room. When we were awakened by the sounds of the elevator, we realized where our room was located. The next morning as we were checking out, I asked the front desk staff why we were given the worst room in the hotel. Their response, "You should have asked to change rooms". I'm sorry that I didn't know they were going to give us such a bad room when the hotel was mostly vacant when we checked it. I'm sorry that I was up for 36 hours and stressed about my brother dying. WHY WOULD A HOTEL STAFF PUT SOMEONE IN THE ELEVATOR ROOM WHEN OTHER ROOMS WERE AVAILABLE? Adding insult to injury, I checked my credit card statement and found they changed me for 5 nights, $750, when I stayed one night. I called the hotel this morning to clear up the mistake, and after a run a round with the staff, I asked to talk to the manager. I left a voice mail and I'm still waiting for the manager to call me back. SO FAIRFIELD INN OF AMESBURY, HERE'S YOUR YELP REVIEW. PART 2 So Fairfield found their mistake and refunded the extra 3 days that I didn't stay. I booked the hotel $144/night and they charged me $190 for one night. PURE BAIT AND SWITCH!!! And still no explanation for why I was given the "Elevator Shaft" room. There you go, BUYER... BWARE. PS I made a complaint with Marriott and still haven't got a response. read more

From check in to check out - a terrible experience. At first glance the hotel looks OK. Looks are deceiving. Checked in at 7pm - rooms not ready yet. Once in the rooms, black mold spots on the ceilings and stench of mold. Could not change as nothing else was available. 1nd night disturbed by non hotel guests having a cook out by the pool and blasting music from their car. That's when we noticed the abandoned car in back of the hotel by the pool. Side exit door to parking lot did not close so it was open to everyone. 2nd night woken by steam cleaning of carpet in the next rooms - at midnight. This place is sketchy at best. First time staying here, came from NYC to visit salem, and this was the closest hotel we found. Nice, affordable and clean, but there was a really strong odor of mold or mildew when we walked into the room. Not really an issue for me or my family. Seriously - the only reason I picked this place is because I'm a Marriott Rewards person, because this place lacks any other reward. When I arrived - the ice tea was room temperature tea in the lobby - the ice was invisible. The cookies looked like that came out of a local grocery store - certainly not baked! The smell in the elevator made me think of mold - like it had been very wet at some point and never cleaned correctly. The pool was outside - little good that did me and there wasn't a fitness room - not even one of those stupid little rooms with equipment that seldom works well. The heater in the room couldn't decide whether to heat or cool. The free breakfast of sausage, eggs and other stuff left my stomach a bit queasy because of the amount of grease from the sausage. However, looking at the bright side - the room was clean and tastefully decorated - as if I really know much about decorating - but it was clean! The shampoo and conditioner were of good quality - the sheets were clean and soft - there was a perfect pillow and other then the sausage and odd scrambled eggs - there was plenty of good food to eat - like yogurt and fresh fruit - not bad for the East Coast in April. AND - there is a gym that you can go to about 1/4 mile down the road for free - a benny for staying at this place! The girl at the front desk was also very friendly - welcoming and was always there - I wonder if she ever goes home! At any rate - overall - I'll give this place a solid three stars, but I will look harder next time for a different Marriott property! read more

Location off highway was good. Price very reasonable. Room was clean as was lobby. My concern was that when I turned on hot water in room it came out brown for awhile before it ran clear. Made me uneasy. Did not ask to move because it was so late and we had so much stuff. Also the Bonvoy app said there was a hot breakfast and there wasn't. The choices were not good for those avoiding sugar. To be fair there was a gluten free bagel. Finally, the hot water thermos for tea in lobby ran light tan - like dirty coffee water. Would not drink. Refrigerator froze everything and microwave burned paper cup. Weird. No masks! Altogether not wonderful but then again it was a pretty reasonable price. And clean. read more

Excellent front desk and housekeeping staff- I can't say enough kind words about them. Working under horrendous conditions - with construction noise and dust, and no A/C on a very hot weekend - with the hotel completely full. I was hit with the smell of must when I walked into our room #420. The Housekeeper said she would immediately contact maintenance when I showed her the mold on the A/C unit. But they had left for the day, so she came back and cleaned it all herself.She was a very nice, hard working woman (Terry?). But the moldy odor persisted, as it was obviously in the entire heating/cooling system. Marriott Corp wants to save money by renovating rooms without fixing the REAL problem? The Room would have been fine otherwise. I have some asthma and it was aggravated by the mildew. The front desk staff could not move us, as there was no other room available - but they did the right thing in comping the room the first night. They still could not move us the second night, and we were stuck with a very busy weekend in the area. I slept with a towel over my face to help block out mold spores. And I also have to say that the renovated rooms had some poor planning with lights blaring in our faces from gadgets everywhere! Microwave, clock, TV, smoke detector right above the bed- all with bright lights. The towel helped there, too. The breakfast had adequate choices, though the fresh fruit was not replenished the second morning. The reno was still occurring so we were packed into a tight little dining space with no A/C . I took breakfast up to the room. The pool was a good size...but the view? See photo. Also a noisy food truck was parked outside with the motor running for about an hour- so the swim was not relaxing. I am a rewards member, but I have been turned off to Marriott after this stay. I do applaud the staff for all they have had to endure $177.00 per night would have been too too outrageous for what we got. read more

We recently had a block of rooms for our guests arriving from out of town for our daughter's wedding. 2 different attendees told us they arrived at 4pm and their rooms were not yet available for check in and the transportation to the wedding venue was due to arrive at 4:30 to bring them to the ceremony. The guests were not able to check in until 11:30pm and when they did so the hotel staff didn't even acknowledge the inconvenience factor. Several guests told me the staff at the front desk were extremely rude and arrogant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. With this kind of service, I don't know how they stay in business. read more

This was truly one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had. We stayed here for a nearby wedding. We checked in fine and set off for our day. We ended up going to a bar after the wedding and didn't arrive back until 1:30 AM. Upon arrival they told us a pipe had broken and we'd have to be moved because our room didn't have any power. They gave us flashlights to go get our stuff. When we got into our replacement room (which was directly below our old room) the power also didn't work, only now we had the benefit of the entire floor being soaked. When we got back to the lobby, we found more people in our party had the same issue including the bride & groom. It was very chaotic trying to resolve so we just slept in our original room since the only issue was no power. At least none of our stuff got damaged. Apparently this was an issue the management knew about and elected to not fix. Breakfast the next morning was one of the worst I've ever had at a Marriott. None of the grease was drained at all and the bacon and sausage were drenched and soggy in grease. The eggs had no flavor either. I'm not sure what other options there are if you find yourself in Amesbury, but definitely seek out someplace other than this. read more

I stayed here because of a wedding, otherwise I wouldn't have needed a room so close to home. You get what you pay for... Paper thin walls, beds that creak and a bathroom with many cracked tiles. The TV was ancient but the shower had good pressure. The staff was very friendly, parking was abundant and there was a free continental breakfast. It was easy to find, right off the highway. There are tons of gas stations and fast food places nearby. read more

Stayed her for a total of 6 hours but in that 6 hours I developed an opinion! Shocker! This hotel is really conveniently located, has tons of parking (except there was a monsoon and when I came out in the morning I had to walk through a 4" puddle....who would have seen that coming?) and friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again, however, I would shut the noisy heating unit off before bed as well as unlug the mini-fridge....both were very loud. The rooms, themselves, though, were quiet. Cleanliness I am going with a 3 out of 5 because someone at Marriott decided that carpets that collect and hold tight to peoples personal hair was the way to go.....you could see lots of different hairs that had been woven into the carpet over the last few people that stayed there. They also have permanent no-slip thing in the bottom of the tubs which always grosses me out....I am certain that there is a bacterial family living somewhere under there. Had the complimentary breakfast and I can't complain. I would never pay for it but it was hot and fresh and "free". I did think $165 was extremely high to pay for a hotel like this, however, they have the market and there really is nowhere else to stay in that area. read more

Update: I don't know what the negative reviewers are talking about. I continue to give it an unqualified 5 stars. I've also had a couple of compliments on my review saying it was "spot on." BTW, it's also a 5-10 minute drive from downtown Amesbury, which has a number of very nice restaurants and pubs. Also, while you'd probably want a car to get around, there is local taxi service, and Flight Line Inc. has a van service between there and Boston Logan airport. read more

Another great stay, this hotel is very convenient to areas North. The shower was strong and the heating/cooling system worked just fine. Breakfast was good, eggs,sausage, waffles oatmeal. Good choices for many different tastes. Yogurt and fresh fruit. 45 minutes to Manchester, Nh, 30 minutes to Portmouth, Nh/ Kittery Me and 15 minutes from NH beaches. Friendly, professional staff i very accomdating. It's not the ritz Carlton but a standard Fairfield inn that is true to the original brand. Friendly's, Burger King are right next door. Many good eating choices in the town of Amesbury less than 5 miles away. read more

We stayed here one night in July 2011. The room was quite small. The TV had very few stations. The pool was small, set behind the hotel in an ugly setting with no hot tub. The breakfast was minimal. Traffic to the hotel from Salisbury beach was bumper to bumper for miles. There are hardly any chain hotels to stay at in this area, which is unfortunate. We had a good dinner in the center of Amesbury and loved the state park beach. read more
