Our check in was smooth, room pretty clean, king size bed, minimal hall noise, we missed the free breakfast bc we slept in late. There is a very convenient 24hr Wawa in the adjacent parking lot. Plenty of free parking. Nice shower and decent towels, we would stay here again. read more

Greetings! Let me start by saying that I'm a secret shopper who evaluates luxury hotels and coaches customer service professionals, including front desk associates and reservation agents. While I understand this isn't a five-star luxury property, exceptional customer service should be the standard in any hospitality setting. We chose this hotel because we were told it had been recently renovated, and its location--just five minutes from our destination--made it an easy choice. Upon arrival, the lobby was completely empty, so check-in should have been a smooth and welcoming experience. We were greeted by Kia. She was polite, but her demeanor lacked the warmth and hospitality I expect from someone who is the first point of contact for guests. I understand everyone has off days, but in the hospitality industry, making guests feel welcome is a fundamental part of the job. The lobby and overall aesthetics were clean and nicely updated, so I have no complaints there. During check-in, we asked if complimentary room upgrades were available. Kia confirmed that the hotel does offer upgrades, but after checking the system, she simply said she couldn't provide one. No explanation was offered. I asked if the hotel was fully booked for the weekend, hoping that would explain it, but instead I was met with a blank stare and no response. We also requested a late checkout, and once again she looked in the system and simply said she couldn't accommodate it. Had she explained that the hotel was at capacity or that there was another reason, we would have completely understood. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and left us feeling like our questions were an inconvenience. Fortunately, our experience later that evening was much different. After returning from being out all day, we asked the night auditor about a late checkout, and she immediately accommodated our request. She was friendly, pleasant, and genuinely eager to help. That interaction demonstrated exactly the kind of hospitality we had hoped to receive from the beginning. As for the room, it was fine. It was clean, which I always appreciate, but the bed wasn't especially comfortable, and the pillows left much to be desired. Since we were only staying one night, it was manageable. Unfortunately, the biggest issue came overnight. We returned to the hotel around 1:30 a.m. and finally settled in around 2:00. At approximately 7:00 a.m., we were jolted awake by the hotel's fire alarm. Anyone who has experienced a hotel fire alarm knows just how loud and startling they are--which, of course, they should be if there's an actual emergency. As it turned out, the alarm had been triggered because someone burned a waffle in the breakfast area. Yes, a burnt waffle. Four fire trucks responded, which at least reassured us that the local fire department responds quickly in the event of a real emergency. After that unexpected wake-up call, all I wanted was a hot cup of regular coffee. Unfortunately, the breakfast area only had decaffeinated coffee available. For a hotel serving breakfast, not having caffeinated coffee was surprising and disappointing. After a night of limited sleep and an early-morning fire alarm, that was the final straw for me. When we checked out, Kia was back at the front desk. She appeared somewhat surprised that we were checking out later than the standard time, but her demeanor remained unchanged. Again, she wasn't rude--just not particularly welcoming or engaging. Overall, this hotel wasn't terrible. It was clean, conveniently located, and appeared to be recently renovated. However, hospitality is about more than updated furnishings. Friendly, attentive, and communicative customer service can make up for many shortcomings, and unfortunately, that was the hotel's biggest weakness during our stay. Thankfully, the excellent service from the night auditor showed that the level of hospitality I was looking for does exist at this property. We enjoyed our stay here :) This is a new hotel so it was nice and clean. We booked our stay for a couple of nights while in the area for business. The area is a little congested like most parts of Central and Northern New Jersey and the entrance can be somewhat difficult to find if you're not paying attention so once you see Wawa be prepared to turn right and if you miss the entrance make the next right after the storage building. The staff in general were kind and helpful with the exception of the guy who worked night shift who seemed angry and ungrateful for his job. Corporate you might wanna look into this guy before he ends up costing you customers and/or a lawsuit. Plus, I saw him in the back sitting down numerous times and not asking if we needed help. Not acceptable! The free breakfast was pretty good and they have a 24/7 coffee station. They had a wide variety of foods for your dietary wants and/or needs. Cereals, bagels, bacon, Belgium waffles, scrambled eggs, breakfast sandwiches, fruits, juices, milks, yogurt, etc. Each morning the hot foods changed slightly. - scrambled eggs 3/5 - sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit 3/5 - sausage, egg, and cheese croissant 4/5 There is plenty of parking and the area is well lit and safe in general. There is a Wawa literally 100 feet away which makes it nice for late night cravings or to grab miscellaneous items plus there is also a Popeyes 200 ft away. The lobby has cold drinks, snacks, and frozen foods for purchase plus an assortment of things you might need like Tums, hand sanitizer, etc. The room we stayed in was a king and it had a sofa and two televisions. I think they are 55". The bathroom was spacious, but the shower door leaked a lot of water on the floor due to not installing the door seals correctly. So place a towel in front of yours to absorb the water. The bed was comfy but the pillows were horrible. There was a coffee machine, microwave, and a small refrigerator in the room. There was also a table and office chair to do work. They have a nice gym too, but we didn't have time to utilize it. This was a nice stay and I have no complaints except the guy who was working night shift. Btw, downtown Union is less than a mile away so you can walk there to enjoy the wide variety of cute shops, cafes, and restaurants there. Go explore it! Safe travels :) read more

Very nice, new, Fairfield Inn. This is my second time staying here. Behind a WaWa. rooms are nice, breakfast was good. Will be back. read more

During my stay, a major blizzard hit the area and dropped approximately 18 inches of snow, leading to a state of emergency across New Jersey on February 23rd. Because of the storm, transportation completely shut down. I have a physical disability and rely on Uber for transportation, and during the emergency no vehicles were able to get in or out of the hotel area. As a result, I was forced to stay an additional night, February 24th, that I had not planned for. I contacted the hotel manager, Michael Martinez, hoping the hotel might provide some flexibility or partial relief on the additional night, especially given the state emergency and the fact that I could not physically leave the property. I was told I would still need to pay the full rate, and my government work ID from the job I had to miss was not honored for any discount. The only reason I was able to leave the following morning was because someone from a wedding party staying at the hotel felt bad for my situation and offered me a ride. I later contacted **Marriott International corporate customer service because I truly believed the company would review the situation and help resolve it. I was contacted by Andrea O'Neal, who stated they wanted to discuss the situation. However, the final response was simply that the hotel would not offer any refund, credit, or adjustment, and the manager reiterated that the rate offered was the lowest available. What was most disappointing was not just the lack of flexibility during a natural disaster, but the lack of empathy even after the issue was escalated to corporate. Because this situation involved a guest stranded during a declared state of emergency and unable to leave due to transportation shutdowns and a physical disability, I respectfully request that Marriott's executive guest relations team conduct a formal review of how this situation was handled. Situations involving emergency conditions and guest safety deserve careful consideration, and I believe this case warrants a second review by corporate leadership. I am also sharing this experience publicly so other travelers understand what level of support they can expect from this location if unexpected circumstances occur. If you plan to stay here, just be aware that if an emergency or severe weather event occurs, you may still be charged the full rate even if you are unable to leave the property. 3/16/2026 reply from Marriott's Corporate Office of Consumer Affairs - Case 817814524 Customer care case number: 822962349 After escalating this matter to Marriott International corporate customer care, I received a response from Andrea O'Neal stating that the case was "carefully reviewed" but that they would ultimately support the property's decision, regardless of the circumstances. This is important for other travelers to understand: even when a situation involves a declared state of emergency, severe weather, and a guest who was physically unable to leave the property, corporate still deferred entirely to the hotel's position and declined to offer any adjustment, credit, or resolution. At no point was there any meaningful reconsideration of the fact that I was stranded due to transportation shutdowns and had no control over needing to extend my stay. While I appreciate the response, it confirms that in situations like this, guests should not expect flexibility, escalation support, or a different outcome from corporate beyond what the individual property decides.
