When I imagine the perfect picnic or stroll around a park, I have images of a place like Fairmont Park. Large, shady trees, ample space for the kids or pups to run and play and varied areas for groups to congregate. This one has it all! I attended a gathering here and had a delightful time. There's a spacious parking lot, so if you're coming in via car, you can park and walk in. You'll cross a darling little stream over a tiny bridge and come up on a large pavilion. In fact, there are several pavilions scattered throughout that you can reserve for your group event. There are a few different playgrounds, a skate park, bathrooms and an impressive off-leash dog park on the south end. We spent most of our time at the dog park letting the pups run and play. It's a remarkable use of space-right up against an area that would likely not be very usable otherwise, but it's been turned into the perfect area to throw a ball for your four legged kiddos. It's got shade, seating, water fountains and a few climbing features to keep the pups engaged. This is definitely a park that I look forward to returning to. read more

I discovered this park from a group of friends that play Pickleball, so I've been coming every other Saturday or so and so far, this is my favorite park to come play. Unlike many other courts, each court here is actually separate from each other and there is plenty of space in between each one. There is also a really cool system to determine who is up next when you out your rackets up. Which is just a simple wheel/arrow that can be turned to identify the group that is up next. This park has a little bit of everything. Located in Sugar House, and is right at the Fairmont (1040 East) S Line Trax stop. Close to shopping, restaurants, and new upscale condos and apartments. Amenities include pavilions, tables, fireplace, tennis courts, sand volleyball, swimming pool, horseshoe pits, pond, (Lots of ducks) and skate park. Pickleball is on the rise here, and this park has 6 courts. Yes, Six. If you don't know what pickleball is, it combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. The county has tried to clean up this park - (keeping the riff raff out) as it is know for... let's just say some unsavory adult actions. This unassuming park is a pleasant surprise! From the parking lot it doesn't look like much, but it is a really nice place to walk around. My favorite thing about it are the big, old growth trees. I miss the big trees out east and they are hard to find in Utah. They are so beautiful and remind me of home. There are also a few playgrounds, a dog park, and a skate park. The pond is a little scummy but still very pretty, with a nice little deck area. I prefer this park to the (I think) boring Sugarhouse Park. A nice bonus is there is a glass recycling drop off in one of the parking lots! read more

Probably not the cream of the crop of parks in the city, but definitely one of the most interesting. Where else can you have a makeshift disc golf course, soccer fields, a small stream, and a skate park. Let's analyze. First, the park is in decent shape. It's tough keeping grass green in Utah (see also: Utah is a desert) and the lawn here is probably not as blue or as grass as lawns in Kentucky. But there's a lot of it, and some nice big soccer fields. Pretty great amenities. Pavilion, potties, and ample parking. Thumbs up for that. And as a bonus, there's a glass recycling dumpster here at the entrance. FYI. The disc golf course was surprisingly fun to play. There are no baskets; it's an object course. There are several poles marked off with tape and I had a blast playing it. Not one I could play very often (I just crave the jingles of those sweet-sweet chains). But worth a shot. This park has a lot going for it, and some recent (in the last 1-2 years) improvements that have added a lot. About 2 years ago, the children's playground in the front of the park was updated, and my kids love it. Several slides, spinning structures, monkey bars, etc. (Not as big or as good as the Sugarhouse update, but still great.) The pond was redone around the same time, and is stocked with trout and catfish. Sometimes there is a lot of overgrown moss/algae and some trash in there, but the city must be coming by to clean once in a while because it's variable. My husband loves fishing there, since it's close and convenient. The location right next to the S-line, several restaurants, bike trail, and the aquatic center is terrific. Even better is when there are farmers markets and other events in the park. I took off one star, because the further you move from the front of the park, the worse maintained and noisier the park gets, as you get closer to the freeway. The back playground has gotten more run-down/neglected as the front playground has taken more attention, and there are sometimes vagrants in the park as well, if that is something that would bother you. read more

I love this hidden gem of a park in Sugarhouse. It's right behind twenty four hour fitness sport and near the liquor store and pibs exchange. They have a farmers market here on Wednesday's until the end of October or so. Fun park with lots of space as well as an aquatic center and a pool and some other good resources to adventure around. Swings and lots of picnic benches, good area to enjoy an afternoon or host a birthday party. read more

Nice park just outside the Fairmont Aquatic Center in Sugarhouse. While this location is classified under "Disc Golf" I have yet to see it there. Lots of grass to sprawl out on or play football, soccer, or disc golf I suppose. There's a somewhat unused skatepark (comparatively) on the west side of the park. The north side has a large pavilion with two dozen metal picnic tables and a much smaller pavilion with four tables just south of that near the restrooms. It has a small stream running past the north parking lot with plenty of ducks. My daughter loves to play in it with other kids. There's also a small playground with the obligatory swings, slides, and sand. We find ourselves visiting here more and more often due to the quiet environment and plenty of things for the kids to do. read more

The homeless are everywhere. They are sleeping on the grass. One woman was about to jump in the pond. When she saw me looking at her, she stated screaming at me. I rarely see any workers here that could do anything about this. It's so sad,because it is a beautiful park. read more

Overall, not the best park in SLC but it is better than Pioneer Park. I had a BBQ this past weekend at this park. I though the park was a little sub-par which is unfortunate because it has the potential to be one of the best in the Valley. A nice stream and a duck pond with a decent pavilion and fire place. The playground was a bit on the run-down side but nothing dangerous. The vibe of the place was probably what really got me down, there just seemed to be a lot of weird people walking through the area. read more

This is a decent size park with places to play horseshoes and volleyball, etc. There is plenty of space so exercise for humans and K-9's is doable along with being able to get away from others. The big downside is the shady restrooms near the volleyball area. Homeless people and winos shack up in there during the day a lot. Passing out & locking themselves in the restrooms so go with your kids if you dare venture in them. read more

I kept meaning to get to this park and kept forgetting, largely because the parts of it I could see from the road when driving by were gutter-ville. That and there is always somewhat of a steady beggar presence there (as others have also noted). Hate on me if you want, but the 1 star deduction is for that. Is the park responsible for who comes on the property? Debatable, but probably mostly not. They are, however, responsible for what goes on there and that's a blight, a stain on an otherwise borderline pristine park. The grounds are very nice, there's a good play area, a stream, a bridge, a pool and a skate park, all of which should put this in the premier of Salt Lake parks and if you can catch a window when the undesirable element is not present to mar it, it is more of that 5 star experience. But if you take the example of fruit, it takes very little rot for things to go quickly into spoilage and so that's what we have here. Still, the park is plenty big enough if you keep an eye on surroundings to keep clear and keep the experience enjoyable, but having to be on heightened vigilance is somewhat of a pain. They are freezing to death and very dirty and miserable. I'm sorry if this makes you feel unsafe. Maybe as we pass judgement on them we need to spend a night out in the cold with no hope.
