Family-owned business that's a staple in Idyllwild. With a great selection of meat and produce, it's a friendly place to grab the essentials without driving down the mountain into Hemet or Palm Springs. They have a weekly ad like that big grocery chains, and the prices are reasonable. Staff is personable and remembers regulars. I just popped in to grab some enchilada sauce for my parents, and was pleasantly surprised at the selection available. Fairway Foods is the convenient neighborhood market Max, my Aussie Cattle Dog, and I shop for staples and snacks whenever we stay at the Pine Cove cabin. they're just up the hill from the Idyllwild Brewery in the same strip center as the post office and Idyllwild Pizza Company. the ladies working the registers crack me up. every time we shop, I walk out giggling. not sure if the thin mountain air's a contributing factor or maybe it's just secondhand smoke from hanging around my dog. ps: if Max and Snoop Dog aren't closely related, they're kindred spirits at the very least. pps: hey, maybe Max can be in Snoop's next Dogs Gone Wild video ... read more

You will find veggies, fruits, nuts, deli, dairy, meats, canned goods, cleaning supplies etc. I was quite surprised to see nearly all sorts of items and while brands are limited, felt relieved to have this store available. The excuse use to be fuel oriented, delivery companies getting up the hill made delivery expensive, so naturally pass the extra expense off on loyal customers. The aforementioned is just a residual insult from the declining inflation era. If this owner cared about her customers - tourists and locals alike - people wouldn't have to shop off the hill and would gladly support local establishments this tourist town so badly needs. Nothing like the local market to get the necessities for an out-of-towner like me. If you're traveling through or just making a day trip, there is a good selection of snacks and drinks. If you're staying in town, full meals are also available and affordable. Along with firewood, charcoal, and clothing items like gloves if you left yours at home. Healthy snacks are also available for your hiking trip. You can mix and match your own trailer mixes. Big large parking lot on site. read more

I think this is the biggest super market in town. There was plenty of parking when we visited on a rainy day. The market is nicely sized and we were surprised by their inventory. We were looking for fire wood which they do sell here in two different bundles. I think the wood bundle is about $9 or so. They also carry duraflame. We didn't think the wood prices here were any different than the wood prices at nearby liquor stores. They had a nice variety of produce and we even saw unique items such as fresh turmeric root and chayote. There's a good selection of meats too. We didn't the prices were all that bad. Friend loved the junk food aisles (he said he saw chocolate covered twinkies). We were tempted to get the roast chicken for $7.49. The chickens looked delicious and ready to go. The staff could have been friendlier as they seemed busy speaking to one another. The cashier we asked for help (finding items) was nice and accommodating. I'd come back if we visit this town again and stock up on items to make a nice dinner. read more

Don't walk in having a hoodie up even if it's raining outside, they'll accuse you of stealing. I walked in just wanting some chocolate and I picked the chocolate but then was fixing my shirt and a lady said "really were you really just gonna steal that?" And I was shocked and said "No I was fixing my shirt??" Cause it was riding up. I guess I could've looked suspicious cause I wasn't wearing the most fancy clothes but still. Just the way she said it made me want to punch her. If your sus about someone stealing don't confront them but tell another person and watch them. This is the supermarket in Idyllwild. The selection here is the most extensive. During the Corona fiasco going on right now I was able to find stuff (bottled water and canned goods for example) in stock. Albeit, they made it known their supplies were dwindling down they had more items in stock here of the essentials I couldn't find at home. Staff was friendly too. read more

Came to this market after reading some reviews (and visiting from out of town) hoping it would be the largest and cheapest market in town. I think it's the largest, but comparable to and for some items more expensive than the other little market in town, Idyllwild Village market which is a little more off the main stretch. Just came to pick up a toothbrush and some water as most of our needs had been met at the Idyllwild Village market. decent selection/variety, but a bit of a mark up. some things were cheap like the toothbrushes which ranged from $0.99-$3-ish, but a single gallon of Arrowhead water was i think something like $1.99 whereas it was $1.49 at Village market and like $0.99 at Walmart (a perhaps unfair comparison point for many things). the cashier seemed friendly enough, but as we were walking through the parking lot we saw an employee yelling at a car that the road was a one-way, and that car, with the windows closed, didn't seem to notice him yelling and so carried on after which he loudly mumbled, "OH, you don't care! go back to whatever town you came from!" so that everyone around him but not the occupants of the car could hear. my friends and i had initially empathized with the local employee, but then looked around and saw no visible signs above or on ground to indicate that it should be a one way and that the driver would have had no real way to ascertain that, and the parking lot spaces weren't designed in such a way to be entered from only one direction, etc., and so in a matter of a few seconds, we became mildly offended at the employee, ourselves and most of the people there being out-of-towners and we felt moderately unwelcomed. however once inside we did not run into any of that sort of animosity which was nice. read more

WOW What a great market. I live in LA and wish I had a market like this near by. It's like Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Ralph's all had a cute baby. This place was VERY clean, so all the (older) reviews saying otherwise - this place must have listened because it's great. Great selection of gluten free and alternative foods (IE Vegan cheese). This market has one of the larger selections of groceries in this little town. The produce selection is usually fresh, prices are a little high but one this mountain so is every place. If you need something very specific, then you may want to go down the mountain. But they do have a nice variety with a good selection of ethnic foods. I really recommend their rotisserie chicken, the seasonings they use are fantastic. Through this epidemic, they've been taking a lot of precautions: signs all over, only 10 people in at a time, masks, and gloves. The cashiers are always really friendly! read more

I visited Idyllwild for the first time in August 2013. It was a brief, overnight trip for work. At the time, I only associated Idyllwild with one person that I knew and I had mentioned to her that I was up there for work and how our native Western Gray Squirrels thrived in Idyllwild as opposed to Big Bear. Both being animal lovers, she mentioned that there was a market that even sold food just for the animals. Well, I put two and two together two months later when another friend and I went up for the weekend. I liked it so much that I had to go back but for leisure, not business! It was the last weekend in October and we stayed at the Idyllwild Inn which is sort of across the street from the shopping center that Fairway Market is located in. While exploring the Village, we stumbled on to Fairway Market. This is not the same Fairway Market chain in NYC. It is the only grocery store "supermarket" in Idyllwild. I put two and two together when I saw the huge tubs of in the shell nuts in the produce section that this was the market my friend had mentioned as carrying food "just for the animals." They had in the shell mixed nuts, in the shell peanuts, sunflower seeds, etc (see pictures) and they were specifically labeled for the animals and not for human consumption. You gotta love a town that loves its squirrels! We had gone there on our second day to pick up some water and other stuff for the cabin. The staff was nice and the store was clean. They had Halloween stuff out and basically everything you could possibly need living in a mountain community... Otherwise, it's a 35 minute drive down the hill to Hemet where there's a Stater Bros. on every corner. On our way out of town on our last day, we swung by the market again bec I wanted to get some of the mixed nuts. I ran in real quick and got 6 lbs! I wish our markets sold whole nuts in the tubs like this! read more

This is the biggest market that we went to in Idyllwild and it gets the job done. This place has more of a selection and actually had a decent amount of organic items. What I didn't like about it was the overwhelming smell of spoiled items when I walked in. It actually caused me to leave but after going to another store with no items that I needed, I came back. They have a bigger selection here and the items vary from hispanic section to a decent meat section (with organic ground beef). I also purchased some organic lettuce and cheese to make some burger wraps. A lot of their produce was very wilted and didn't seem great quality but not only it is difficult to get produce up in the mountains but during COVID things just seem to fly off the shelf up here. The employees were nice enough I just wish that the place was cleaner and didn't smell. I do work in the food industry and it's a known rule that places should not smell...if they do there is something going on. I know everyone is really short staffed right now but hopefully they can clean that place up. read more

We went on a last minute camping trip to Lake Hemet this weekend and need some groceries. One of the other campers suggested Fairway in Idyllwild. What a gem in a small town! Stopped by here on the way to the mountains because my partner needed to use the restroom. I asked to use the restroom. The attendant was a very nice gentleman. I asked if I needed to buy anything in order to use the restroom and he said of course not go right ahead. I bought something anyway. Two bottles of water. On the way out there were two very nice Latino people who greeted me in Spanish. This place has a very small town appeal to it. Perhaps, where things are a little bit slower and people take the time to talk to each other. read more

Just a normal grocerry store if you need to purchase things for your trip out of no where. It has like a small town kind of feeling atmosphere when we were here the past summer vacation. We were just in here and loved the friendliness of all the staff! One gentleman came and gave my two kids a free candy sleigh made out of candy canes and a rice crispy treat. Staff heard us looking for stuff and directed us where to go immediately and with a smile. I don't miss the big smoke at all! Food was fresh and tasty too. TOURISTS AND LOCALS WARNING---DO NOT SHOP HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SICK!! We have spoke to many locals who say they do not shop here because the food is bad and the store is not clean at all. We bought a steak there and myself, my wife and my cat got really sick. My cat was even hospitalized!! We ran blood tests and they came back as gastrointestinal and dehydration from the severe vomiting and diarrhea. The vet even wrote a letter saying that it is a high probability of contaminated meat. We eat very clean foods and our cat eats very clean as well and doesn't go outside, so we know this illness came from the steak we ate and fed to her. I called the manager, Linda and told her about it and he answer was, "Well, what do you want me to do about it..nobody else has called and said they were sick." Do they need it to be an epidemic before they will do anything about it???? I said, "Isn't there a protocol when someone calls and says they got sick?" She said, "I don't know, why don't you call the owner next week." There was zero concern for the current health and safety of their customers. I went into the market today and spoke with who I believe is the Owner, Dianna and she said "Call my insurance company and file a report." NEVER did they say they would check any of the meat or do anything to protect it's customers. If you look around the store it is disgusting! Locals say they go off the hill to shop and us tourists don't know any better and that is why I warn you. Beware if you shop there and don't feed anything to your animals, as they don't have as strong of stomachs as you do and can die from eating bad food. It is up to us as consumers to assure that stores like this are held to a higher standard and accountable for their deliberate negligence. read more

Pleasantly surprised by what I could find in this grocery store in Idyllwild. Not only did they have a great selection of local beers and wines, but also the same brand of tamales and fresh local salsa I used to get when le fiance was at USC in downtown LA. And their prepared ribs were AMAZING!!! Definitely pricey though. Was unpleasantly surprised by that. But I guess supply and demand? Would definitely be back if I ever had grocery shopping needs again in Idyllwild. read more

This is a cool, old fashioned kind of grocery store. Think back to 1955 and you get the idea. A handful of cereals to choose from, not the 10,000 which is the norm today. The prices are not much higher here than elsewhere, which was surprising. read more
