UPDATED MAY 27TH: Heard back finally and was told only one other car in a very large geographical area has the same issue as I do. They have opened a quality assurance report with Subaru and still not known when my issue will be resolved. Changing my star review. Horrible Service department. Brought my relatively new Outback in because every 6 minutes i was getting a message on my display that the Outback was "connecting", and i would lose calls when that message came up and audio. I might add, i am 40 minutes from the dealership. Made an appointment for 7:30am and by 10:30 was told that the technician didn't know what the issue was and had to contact Subaru directly. Was told by my service rep, Brian, that i could wait with the car, after being there for 3 hours or i could leave and within 30 minutes he would call me back to possibly bring the car back in, I waited 3 hours with no call and i called the Service department 6 times and not once got a person to speak to. On the 7th try, finally spoke to Brian who said they haven't heard back from Subaru. I told him that if i stayed as he said i could 3 hours earlier i would still be waiting. Had no answers for me except they were still waiting to hear from Subaru. What kind of a dealership doesn't know what's wrong with their cars? I was told maybe a new data module was needed but no one knew and worst of all, no return call, as promised. Misleading marketing on vehicles and bait and switch tactics are used to keep Subaru from recalling bad products. Multiple vehicles on their lot, both used and new, show signs of delaminating, bubbling or peeling black trim. After returning one new 2025 Subaru Ascent due to warping trim panels at 2500 miles, we traded it in with the understanding that the new vehicle would not have the same problem. Less than 300 miles on 2025 Subaru Ascent, and the problem is happening. The vehicle cannot withstand being parked direct sunlight or drastic changes in ambient temperature. The dealership, service department and managers are well aware of the issue. They are selling cars knowing full well they cannot hold up against environmental exposure. Potential customers are being misled by this dealer. Existing customers are held at fault and dishonestly dismissed as anomolies. These cars aren't built for South Carolina climate variables or Subaru has a defect in their design. Fairway Subaru is complicit and unhelpful in pursuing warranty claims. read more

Had a great experience buying a new vehicle from Joseph. He did his best to get me everything I wanted and within my budget.

My 2020 Forester had severe electrical issues including: headlamp flutter, drained battery and failure to start. They kept the car for 3 days and couldn't find anything wrong. Several websites say Subarus experience severe electrical system failures with the Digital Control Module (DCM) draining the battery. We presented this information to J., the Service Representative, who pauses suspiciously before denying any problems. He implied his main concern was getting the courtesy car returned. Several car websites have compiled multiple cases of dealerships fixing the electrical problem and denying repairs as per Subaru Corporate directives. Bottom line, don't trust Fairway! read more

The rudest service department there is. If you're not in warranty don't bother. They don't answer, don't call back, and when you go in person they don't listen. I'm extremely frustrated with their service advisor that thinks a dead battery can magically charge itself in 5 hours. LOL and UGH. Hopefully their mechanic can figure it out. I'll update later. And the update is that after my 2nd trip there in one day, it was a loose battery terminal. Tried to make an appointment to buy out my lease. I was told financing would take 30-60 minutes. I asked the sales person if we could go run an errand and come back and he said yes. Well as soon as we got back our spot in line got booted for someone who came in to buy a car. I understand the circumstance of them needing to keep things moving but I would have preferred the sales guy advise us not to leave because it would bump us down in line. My husband and I took off work, hired a sitter for our child and made an appointment all for us to have to sit here now from 10:30am-1:00pm. Don't bother with appointments they mean nothing. When we visited this dealership, I was delighted to see that the salesman who came out was an old friend from high school. Unfortunately, he no longer works there. Our experience has gone downhill somewhat. We purchased an Outback, and the extended warranty with maintenance coverage, but none of the major maintenance came due while we had the warranty, so that was a rip-off. I called yesterday, and left a message to ask for service, but did not receive a call back today. I called 10 times, and was disconnected (a hang up?) every time. I was never put through to Service. Meantime, my seat air conditioner sounds like a jet during take-off, and we need regular maintenance. Sigh. read more

This is my 5th Subaru but my 1st brand new car. My first ever Subaru was a 1992 Legacy turbo sedan. It was then my first subie, first AWD, and first turbo powered vehicle. I fell in love with the brand a feeling that has not diminished at all over the years. Initially, I was in the market for a "unicorn". I was looking for an unmolested STI, with all service performed at the dealership, under 30k miles, and with the factory warranty intact. That is when I met Jay Ely, Internet Sales Manager. Jay immediately found what I wanted. But the price was above the limit I had imposed on myself and I moved on to my backup plan. My new car, a 2024 WRX Base, was initially selected using the online service. I factory optioned the vehicle to my liking. I then met with Jay for the first time in person. Jay was very professional and warm. I was pleased to discover that there were many dog owners, like myself, working at the dealership, Jay included. My pup and I were given the utmost consideration (and attention) during our visit and Jay's office even had a doggie door so that she could relax and move freely while we discussed options and went over paperwork. Jay reviewed my online order with me to ensure that they ordered all of the same options I had wanted. Once confirmed, Jay double checked to ensure there would be no oversites or mistakes. I reviewed this with Jay and he conferred with me on all of the details before it was submitted to the factory in Japan. Unfortunately delivery of the vehicle, from Japan, was repeatedly delayed. This was not the dealerships fault as any shipments from Japan have been difficult of late. However Jay was quick to provide a solution, obtaining a factory base from another dealer. My delivery was scheduled and I waited excitedly for the day to arrive. There were some upgrades that would not be ready on delivery day but I was assured that I would not be charged for the follow up service and I would be given a loaner to use when the time came for my vehicle upgrades to be installed. On the day of delivery, I met with Jay to conclude our paperwork. Jay was again very personable and engaged with me regarding topics from our prior visit. Other members of the team stopped in periodically to introduce themselves and say, "Hello!" At this time Jay had also surprised me with a generous gift and I could not have been more thrilled! As most of the work had been taken care of online, there was little else to do except hand over my payment and accept the keys. Prior to this, my newest Subaru had been a base 2008 Outback. It was a bare bones car with no frills. My new car had many tech options and Jay did take the time to go over the general features and functions of the new system to ensure I was comfortable with operating the vehicle. Jay also took the time to introduce me to members of the other departments I would be working with before sending me on my way. I LOVE this car but there are common complaints about it in the community. I hated the way this car looked but it has since grown on me, especially after adding a few options such as the S-Style Spoiler, tint, and after market wheels/tires. The bugeye was no different. Many also complain about the "shifter slop" and I agree. The stock shifter is crisp but with a vagueness to upshifting into the 5-6 gate. This lead to times where I nearly "money shifted" from 4-3 or from 5-4 when I intended to upshift into a taller gear. This could be very bad during the break in period. The STI shifter fixed this for me. I highly recommend it. The car does sit a bit higher than I was expecting but handles like its 2" off the road! I will not be lowering it as I am very happy with no longer worrying about scraping over speed check humps or bottoming out on SC roads. The steering is very quick but a bit numb, not providing the feedback I expect from cars with a traditional hydraulic rack and pinion. I notice this the most when at highway speeds. The pedal box feels "cheap" and the brakes vague. The brakes are "all or nothing". The clutch is one of the best factory setups Ive ever had. Overall, the car offers great visibility, exceptional handling, and will surprise you at every turn. This is one of the greats. If you are on the fence, go for a test drive asap! In conclusion, though I have never had very good experiences with dealerships in the past (3 in total over a span of nearly 30 years), opting to buy vehicles from private parties instead, Jay and the team at Fairway Subaru have restored my faith in the first party buying experience. My time was respected and the entire process, from start to finish, was not only pleasant but enjoyable. Their care and consideration appeared genuine and I left knowing that my passion for Subaru cars (and dogs) was shared by all. I was in a collision in California and my Subaru has been to several dealerships trying to get back to the East Coast scheduled to come here plan. This told the story to the service department before ever arriving. When I get there the first service person totally lied to me and when I called him on it, I asked to speak to someone else. The next person was fabulous. We got it all lined up. He was gonna look into my wiring problem. Look at the videos and things I have from the other dealerships and my issues but he was going on vacation the next day and I was also going to try to give them because I know they're for profit and I've had a tire blowout so I was gonna buy a new set of tires for the next day I get a call my car is ready and I asked had my issues been addressed and how could they have finished it that fast when the reason I left Las Vegas was because the manager over service there said it was so in-depth it was gonna have to be somewhere maybe a couple of weeks that's why I waited to the East Coast but this dealership lied to me. Tried to say I didn't have a warranty when they had just fixed the tire on the side of the road the night before gave me such a hard time and then would not even contact the guy that set this all up and when there was discussions and communication, I would stop them because he's only telling me about tires and things that are for profit I needed the work done under the warranty, or if we can figure out it lead back to this accident I had which was thought by two previous dealerships on the West Coast then it would be an insurance claim they could not stop explaining to me the difference between warranty and insurance and these tires and things that were irrelevant that I knew about already even the measurements of the tread I already knew from the day before so when I asked him to let me see because I knew he was gonna say, and I just need to focus on the wiring issues. He got so upset with me would not tell me what he had done to my car would not give me a copy of any of the work order because I'm told there was a diagnostic done, but they were gonna wait. Not because of my warranty because they were nice and it was not true. It had to be another false information. So now I don't know what they did to my car. I just know they did not address a single issue. I brought it down and could only focus on where they were gonna make money. I'm out loss. I do not know how to get away with this it is absolutely horrible That they can just flat out lie for profit, but I already had a Subaru advocate once and I guess I'm gonna have to go and get another. Subaru advocate to help me get through this because just the confusion of them saying I did not have an extended warranty when they had just come and replaced the blowout the night before was unnecessary, confusing, and a waste of my life when I knew exactly what I was coming in there to get and like I said, purchase many things, but I wanted to concentrate on the wiring problem. I have been dealing with.. since August 6. I want to get this insurance claim wrapped up. I need to prove it is from the accident or if it's just a car situation that would be still under warranty. But the one person at the dealership that heard me out and it made the promises was on vacation the next day and was told to wait till next week when I'm in a motel and had set this up in advance for the place to stay to get this taken care of finally And not, but that one Barry Gamball . He had a one month old and had a little patience was standing behind him smiling I don't understand what kind of people would do that to a handicap senior with the service dog just trying to get their car fixed whether is an insurance claim or a warranty problem would've worked itself out, but I didn't need the third and fourth person telling me about tire tread. But my stopping them explaining again and again came over as me cutting them off for being disrespectful in someway. And then when he said, I was gonna be escorted off the property if he didn't take me to my car, he couldn't find my car.. so that's when I turned on the video which have been recommended for me to document and he got very angry and left me to find my car in a parking lot by myself. Jacob let me to know that I would be able to upgrade my ride at about the same price, which I was unaware of, and he had all the paperwork ready with several lease terms to pick from, answered all my questions and took on extra work like finding me better insurance, and making extra copies of my important personal documents for me. I have a 2007 Subaru that I took in for an airbag recall. Everything was fine until I picked it up and opened the door to a falling side panel (scared the crap out of me) and clips that hold the dash panels togetherall over my floor boards. Also in the past the have preformed visual inspections (100pt inspection etc)tires, brake pads fluids and such... not this time. They didn't even bother to pick up the extra pieces they forgot to put back into the dash. I have been driving around with possibly having shrapnel exploding into my face. I have taken my vehicle multiple times to this expensive place, mainly because they are open on weekends and have loaner cars. The first time I took it the experience was average. Had to wait a while to catch someone's attention. I had a exam done on the vehicle and they did a complementary check on fluids, tires, etc. I opted to not have them do the service, due to cost. The last time I took it there, they supposedly replaced a steering pump. A couple of weeks later, the problem had returned, so I brought it back and was told a connector had come loose! The waiting room and amenities are very nice and comfortable. The only reason that I did not give a 5 star review is the price of the routine maintenance and mark up on parts. I understand in this post COVID world everything is more expensive so I decided to do a few small items at our local shop which doesn't mind if you acquire your own new parts and bring them in. Upon learning we were repeat customers we were directed to Jacob Candiotti. He is their Customer Loyalty Manager. Jacob had the car ready when we arrived and we were able to take it for a test drive. Back in the office he started going over some numbers that would be a payment considering our trade in and a deposit we were thinking of making. Things weren't looking good. He said we should consider leasing. This was something foreign to my wife and I as we had never considered leasing in our 50+ years of driving. He explained it to us in detail. Recently bought an old Subaru Outback wagon and today my son's drink accidentally spilled into the vent that controls the air/heat. Needless to say, our radio got fried and was making a loud noise through the speakers even when turned off. Daniel and Barry, managers at Subaru, came to the rescue. Barry was able to diagnose that it was just the radio and advised leaving it off to see if it dries up. He went ahead as a courtesy and had the fuse removed that controls the radio and we were all set. No more issues- just a broken radio. DANGEROUS REPAIR SERVICE My tires were rotated at Fairway Subaru. Instead of taking a little extra time to thread the lug nuts correctly, they cross threaded most of them. Since the studs/lug nuts were not holding the wheels on securely, the wheels could have dropped off of the car, potentially when I was driving on the interstate. I returned my Outback to Fairway Service to replace the studs/lug nuts, since they were stripped. After taking apart the wheel to work on the studs, they neglected to replace the bolts that hold the brake caliper on, or did not tighten them enough. That afternoon, after driving on the interstate for 200 miles, I pulled off the road into a rest stop. As I was braking, one of the wheels seized up, and I lurched to a halt. Because Fairway had not secured the brake caliper bolts, the brake caliper flopped down into the wheel and suddenly prevented the wheel from rotating. What if that had happened when I braked at 70 mph? I then had to wait in the dark by the side of the road for two hours for a tow truck, and make a 6 hour round trip drive to retrieve the car after a competent shop had repaired the damage to the car. All because Subaru did not take a few extra minutes to do the job carefully and correctly. I bought a Subaru for safety. There is no way I would ever leave my car at Fairway Subaru for service again, as the work done there left my car profoundly unsafe. read more

I visited Fairway a few weeks ago while traveling from out of state. I requested a 104,000 mile inspection, oil change and tire rotation. I was texted that my car was done. Upon arrival I was told that a tire had been plugged and I had an exhaust leak. No one could answer specifics on the exhaust leak. I texted, called and emailed and still have yet to speak with someone. It's been over two weeks. Today my local service department told me that I have a cracked catalytic converter and need new brakes. Fairway did not mention the brakes to me at all, though it was checked off on the form they gave me. They allowed me to drive over three hours home with these issues. Loved purchasing my car, but the sales department is the pits. They hate doing work, being told it is under warranty. All about the upsale. Do not tell them they are horrible and complain despite their own shortcomings because you will get it right back. The people that work there are for a paycheck only. I highly suggest the service manager, ****** quit his job. Despite my complaints, I will have to get my husband involved, because all I get is a referral to go to Spartanburg. There are times I dont like my job, but I smile. ALOT. I plan to update this, IF it gets resolved, which if the service manager is a representation of this, I doubt I will get anywhere. We have now attempted to contact beyond the service manager, who is the root of our issue and it is failing. He is disrespectful and the gm will not even speak to us to discuss the complaints. As predicted, they fail at customer service- if they are willing to ignore a warrantied car in unsafe conditions by a mother of 2, then I imagine your money, as long as you dont complain is all they need. Update 9/27 Went to Vic Bailey after not ever getting the GM on the phone (Galvin) x 3 calls and the service manager does not understand (David) is the attitude problem. David knows it all, and holds himself in high regard versus understanding and explaining. My advice is to go to Spartanburg to do any Subaru dealings. This place is shady. Watch the sticker proce vs what they wrote it up for. I bought a vehicle with cash cause these finance prices are horrible. Because I elected not to finance they raised the price 1k. I missed it cause we were buying the vehicle for my wife and I don't usually speak up if my wife is there. They charged me an extra 1k above the sticker price. By the time I got home and looked at the paperwork it was too late. Between the time you go from the sales guy to the finance manager, watch your prices and what is on paper cause it is liable to change without your knowing. ​And also when the sales guy tells you thar the warranty is good 'up to' 100k miles, they mean that the finance "manager" is going to try to upscale you 3k for that 100k warranty. Spoke with Daniel/Service Manager and rescheduled for 11/6. Called the dealership in the morning of 11/5 and was told once again my appointment had been canceled. Recently saw a car listed on Cars.com at this dealership and thought it sounded like a pretty good deal listed at $8971. I went to take a look at it and when I got there, the salesman was really friendly and easy to talk to. We looked at the car and he told me that it was going to have some work done before it would be ready to sell. He told me that it would likely be Monday before it was ready. (This was a Thursday) I let him know I was interested and I'd like to come take a look and drive it as soon as it was ready. I called the next morning to let the salesman know I was still interested and left a message. He never returned my call so later in the day and finally got a hold of him. When talking to him I asked if there would be any break for a cash transaction. He put me on hold and then came back and said the least they'd take was $9471... I told him that's not what it was listed at when I looked yesterday. He game me some vague "our computer system screwed up" excuse for why it suddenly went up and then told me that in spite of the fact that it was cheaper the day before this new price was now what they were asking. He was short and curt in his answers and had a take or leave it attitude. He clearly didn't care, and when I explained that it appeared shady that the price magically went up after I expressed interest, he seemed completely ok with that and offered me nothing but his old, salty salesman, screw you attitude. If you're gonna buy here, don't let them know your interested until your ready to buy, otherwise you may be shocked to find a new price that reflected your interest. Gratz boys, you got me this time. I went to fairway Subaru in October 2022, I was looking to buy a new crosstrek. I drove the car I wanted and we had a very low mileage trade ,once our trade was paid off we had well over ten thousand in equity,we decided the crosstrek we tested was the car we wanted. We were then driven via golf cart over to the managers office to do the paperwork, first of all, I was never asked if my credit could be pulled, second it was done without my consent, then once we were in the office to sign the final paperwork. I then noticed not only had they added outrageous fees called admin fees, doc fees and tag fees the last two I understand but to add $699.00 to fill out a contract was ridiculous, then I noticed the equity from my trade had also been added back onto the contract, yet not as equity but as more money owed. I then told the men that I could read a contract and I wasn't stupid,they then called in some other guy who tried to explain their lies away but I wasn't having it. We got up and walked away, these ppl are plain and simple crooks. Don't trust them,and our salesman was bragging about smoking weed out of his vape pen, I knew they all must have been high to think that I was crazy enough to have them,add my equity onto my loan.
