We came in and asked if we could try the falafel before we bought it. The server was more than happy to give us a whole falafel and even gave us some hummus too. The falafel is just right amount of crispy on the outside, and softer and hot on the inside. It's the best falafel I've ever had (disclaimer: I'm not a falafel expert). I decided to get the chicken shawarma since I wanted some meat. It was a bit saltier than I would've liked, but still good. Veggies are fresh. The portion is huge, and I wasn't able to finish it. If you're looking for a decent meal at a decent price point, this place is for you. The portions are huge and the quality is good. I've tried much better kebabs and Mediterranean food but if youre in the area this is a good choice. Decided to give this place try because it was very close to our hotel and I love me some falafels. Me and my friend shared the chicken falafel platter, it was good except the falafel didn't meet my expectations because it tasted over fried. The chicken was grilled and flavored perfectly. The hummus was delicious as well and the side salad had good dressing too. I was really impressed by the service, the guy who was making the platter gave me and my friend a falafel dipped in hummus to try while we waited him to finish. I used to work at Galaxy Nails and Spa on Winter Street and my go to for lunch was Falafel King which was downstairs. When we had let go of our salon, we stopped coming to downtown Boston. Years later I decided to find this restaurant and learned that it was no longer on winter street anymore. Instead, they had opened a much bigger and better restaurant down the street. I couldn't believe it! The food still tasted just as good as before. I am so happy for Falafel King's success and expansion! Back then the portions was huge, and present day its still huge! The rice was perfectly seasoned, the chicken kabob was still moist and flavorful. On top of it, the toubelleh and salad oh and I can't forget the homemade falafel itself. Ordered a falafel hummus combo wrap, it was supposed to come with tabouli but I didn't get any. Be vocal folks. If you order online notice how a combo roll-up w/ falafel is $8.75, combo roll-up falafel/hummus/tabouli is $8.35, falafel vegetarian roll up is $7.85. What are the differences? Why is straight up falafel more expensive and what makes that a combo? How many falafel do they include in each roll-up then? There are many feudal falafel lords in Boston, but only one king. The path has been littered with conflict and controversy, but through it all a true king has emerged. Service is fast and furious and they will offer you a sample, which is a nice touch. I only ever get the falafel roll-up and it's very good. I did venture away from my comfort zone once in an effort to meet the $8 (I think) credit card minimum and ended up with some kind of fried, semi-dry, meat pod. I think all it needed was yogurt sauce, but I was too shocked after the first bite to think clearly and rolled it to some pigeons who didn't seem to mind the dryness. No, wait...that was a falafel place up the street; I beg your forgiveness my King! I have been to a few falafel places downtown, and although I like BlackSeed (which has a good lox bagel and a nicer interior) on Tremont, I give the nod to the King. All hail. Good: 1. The falafel is really good here. Really crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. It's a tad more flavorful than other falafel I've had around the city (maybe a bit more garlic-y). They give you one while you wait too. 2. The rice was surprisingly really tasty too. It was well seasoned and the texture was soft with bits of thin noodles throughout. I couldn't stop gorging myself on it. 3. The portions here are generous and at an affordable price too. For 1 kebab dinner plate you get a healthy serving of rice, 2 kebabs, a side salad, and a (pre-packaged) serving of a flour wrap. Average: 1. Sister and I shared one chicken kabab plate and one lamb kebab plate. Both were just ok, nothing special. We both agreed the chicken was better than the lamb (which was a bit under seasoned). Both were cooked well though maintaining a soft and juicy texture. 2. The side salad was as simple as you can get. Classic fast food greens with a quick drizzle of dressing. After an afternoon of shopping I was hungry but wasn't sure what I had a craving for. I called my boyfriend to ask what he likes to eat for lunch since he works downtown. He suggested I try this Falafel King, he said he's heard great things about it and at lunch time the line is always out the door. I went there not knowing what to expect. I was greeted by a guy and lady behind the counter. The menu is great not too overwhelming. I decided I wanted to try a kafta roll-up. I placed my order and they started to prepare it.... Without asking Freddy (one of the guys preparing my roll-up) gave me a falafel with a little hummus to sample. His offering caught me off guard but it was appreciated. This was hands down the best falafel I have ever tasted. It was warm, delicious and was given to me right in time for me to change my order to a kafta roll-up with falafel :-). I went back 5 days later. This time I tried a chicken and falafel salad. Everything on the plate was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try something different. I've been to this place several times with several different people, and the consensus is that it's perfect. The servers are very responsive to your customizations and the food itself is so good I always forget to take a picture before I eat it all. The chicken king wrap is my favorite--they use a whole freshly grilled kebob and it's probably just about the best chicken you can get for this price. Children never had falafel. Read the sign that says "falafel king", seven year old wants to dine there because who does not want to be in a restaurant named king? These are Northern Californian babies, middle eastern food just isn't as common there. Falafel was delicious, warm and fluffy outside, the rice was has a great flavor without being too soggy or salty and of course the kofta was tender and fresh served over a bed of salad. Long live the king! The Falafel King is a favorite lunchtime stop at my office. Now, I order the same thing every time - the falafel roll-up; however it is damn tasty. The line is always long but they keep it moving; when you step up to order they hand you a piece of falafel with hummus on the house. I'm sure other menus items are good but the falafel is enough for me, perfect taste and texture, they offer a hot sauce and picked veggies that make the roll-up dynamite. It was my first time here and it was so good! Very clean and large space as soon as I entered they helped me with my order and I was even offered a free falafel with hummus! My order was done in less than a minute and made right in front of me. After I paid they offered housemade sauce and asked me to try and take as well as napkins, utensils, extra bread. Nobody messes with the king. I remember my first Falafel King experience. Cold winter day, small counter under mojitios by the sketchy chinese food place and guy selling smart phone covers. Free soup with the purchase of ANYTHING. Literally the best deal going. FAST FORWARD TO 2017. This falafel king has TV menus. Its well lit. They have their own storefront. But not much else has changed. You still get a delicious falafel while waiting in line. The price still can't be beat (no more free soup but hey, you don't get to be the King by just giving away soup). I still think its some of the best falafel in town (but let me know if you know where to get better). Don't skimp on the pickles or hot sauce please. read more

Update 2+ years later... Been eating here since day 1. I think bc the "King" has been busy at other locations, cleanliness has fallen. Found a nice long black hair (almost 3") in my chicken plate. What sux is it was found almost at my last few bites under some salad and rice. Reported it to the cashier boss lady, unfortunately, she only seemed a little bit apologetic. I did notice all the kitchen staff didn't have any hats on except one guy, the falafel handler. I personally think the falafel here is fantastic--aggressively crunchy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. I tend to prefer the plates, as opposed to the roll-ups, but both are good. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. Yes, the staff might come across a little grouchy if you're not accustomed to the frenetic pace of most lunch spots in downtown Boston. Falafel king trapped me with a sample. I went looking to get a smoothie left out with a falafel sandwich and falafel plate. This is how they got me I came in asking about the smoothie the let me know they do not have smoothies and offered me a sample of a fresh Falafel. It was so good that I ordered a sandwich.
