I wish Falafel Mafia had a brick & mortar location so I wouldn't have to drag myself to stand in the cold in the winter months for a falafel. Falafel Mafia touts itself as Maine's best falafel and it's certainly Portland's best/most accessible falafel, that's for sure. The Godfather is my staple and a must if I ever find myself on the Eastern Prom. The shawarma dusted fries are deliciously seasoned and can confirm they reheat well in an airfryer. Service is quick (hello, it's a food truck) but of course, with lots of visitors at the prom, it's expected on weekends to be very busy. Lunch during the week is very reasonable. I love to grab my Godfather pita pocket and post up on the hill to watch the boats - it's the best view and the perfect way to relax and enjoy your food. Been to this food truck many times before and went here at Thompsons point while at a concert. This plate is always very good and the falafel is always great! Got the falafel pita pocket and the fries. The pockets are packed and the flavors all work so well. Falafel is perfectly crisp and the sauce is always amazing. The fries are some of my favorite. The seasoning they put on it is addicting and I could eat a bucket of them. Highly recommend giving them a shot. It's delicious and quick and you will not be disappointed. Very limited number of items ok the menu but I don't mind that. The bowl is healthy and tasty. What I didn't appreciate was how they named certain items - it was misleading. The shawarma fries tasted exactly like barbecue flavored potato chips - nothing like shawarma. The prices are also too high for the portion size. Those fresh pitas make all the difference. For the better bang for your buck, get the Godfather and don't look back. Falafel Mafia's falafel is crispy and well-cooked. The sauce and hummus are great too. The one thing I will say is that these are very American-ized falafel options. That's not necessarily a bad thing at all, but this falafel is not accompanied by pickled veggies; it simply has lettuce and tomato with hummus and sauce. This might be my new favorite food truck. WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG TO TRY THEM? I don't know, but I'm a fool. Unfortunately, I have no proof that I've ever actually eaten here because I forget to take photos of my food... it's usually inhaled *that* quickly (also: I have no shame admitting this, but I can't seem to eat one of their sandwiches like a normal human being... it always ends up all over my face and in my hair). I do not generally give 5 star reviews after a first visit somewhere... this is an exception for one explicit reason... My autistic four-year-old who is exceptionally picky when it comes to what he eats, genuinely consumed 2/3 of my order of shawarma seasoned French fries! In addition, as if more was needed, the guys on the truck word incredibly friendly. The bowls they serve things in say made from plants compostable, right on the top! The food itself is exceedingly delicious!! The tahini is creamy, humus is delicious, the Pita is beautifully soft and fresh, the individual falafel patties are crunchy and tasty in their own right without any sauce.. And as I said, the French fries are a huge hit with my kids as well as myself! Apparently they are on Spring street and temple street, by the nicelodeon cinema movie theater Tuesdays and Thursdays but travel elsewhere other days. On a busy afternoon, we surprised my wife with the mafia bowl in between appointments. She was thrilled at how delicious it was! Surrounded by expensive used furniture, it was a welcome relief to see that there was something other than hot dogs and hamburgers. Never did I expect that the food from the Falafel Mafia truck would be as good as it was. Both the Gyro and Falafel pita sandwiches were large and filled with great spices and sauces. Hard to believe, but I've never been to the Old Port Festival--until yesterday. It was okay. Lots of people, walking around, with a ton of fair food. Not many choices, if you're plant-based. Oh, there was music, too. Luckily, while making our way through the crowd on Middle Street, I almost ran smack into the side of the Falafel Mafia Food Truck. When I stepped around to the front, I noticed that their menu had vegan choices and amazingly, there wasn't a line (yet). We stepped up, placed our order, and then, a line of 15 people materialized. My festival cohort went with The Mobster--a pita stuffed full with falafel, hummus, lettuce, pickles, pickled onions, and tahini, I think. I had the salad version, with quinoa. Amazing!! Then, they have this peach sauce that I saw people putting on their Mobsters. It looked like mustard, but it wasn't!! Wow!! The festival was good to check-off having gone. I finally got to try Falafel Mafia at gastro gogo and they were definitely my favorite truck! I had already heard amazing things about their potatoes, so we ordered those and the man working the counter suggested a Mafia bowl. It was incredible. It was so fresh and there was everything from quinoa to pickled veggies along with the most delicious, creamy hummus and the best falafel I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, flavorful and not even a little dry. I was sharing with my boyfriend and we both couldn't get over how perfectly everything went together... and dipping those potatoes into the hummus left over from our bowl was a game changer. Found this food truck at an art festival and oh my yummy goodness- their falafels are amazing! I ordered the falafel bites because they were easy to eat and walk with. They had the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and they were soft and delicious on the inside. Crazy rude people running this place. I understand they are tired and they were "out of cabbage" which can make anyone irritable but no excuse for being so dismissive and condescending. Every fake "thank you" was given by a "now get the f out of my face" attitude. They seem successful from all the reviews, maybe they really don't need the business anymore.
