I wish Falafel Mafia had a brick & mortar location so I wouldn't have to drag myself to stand in the cold in the winter months for a falafel. Falafel Mafia touts itself as Maine's best falafel and it's certainly Portland's best/most accessible falafel, that's for sure. The Godfather is my staple and a must if I ever find myself on the Eastern Prom. The shawarma dusted fries are deliciously seasoned and can confirm they reheat well in an airfryer. Service is quick (hello, it's a food truck) but of course, with lots of visitors at the prom, it's expected on weekends to be very busy. Lunch during the week is very reasonable. I love to grab my Godfather pita pocket and post up on the hill to watch the boats - it's the best view and the perfect way to relax and enjoy your food. I highly recommend napkins though, that pita pocket can get messy! read more

Been to this food truck many times before and went here at Thompsons point while at a concert. This plate is always very good and the falafel is always great! Got the falafel pita pocket and the fries. The pockets are packed and the flavors all work so well. Falafel is perfectly crisp and the sauce is always amazing. The fries are some of my favorite. The seasoning they put on it is addicting and I could eat a bucket of them. Highly recommend giving them a shot. It's delicious and quick and you will not be disappointed. When I'm out at the Eastern Prom I've found myself stopping by the Falafel Mafia truck a few times now--and although I've gotten the exact same thing every time, I'm hooked! No doubt their falafel in pita is terrific, but I'm a huge fan of the Mafia bowl: think falafel but without the bread, in a kind of salad with red quinoa. Seriously, I think this must be one of my favorite lunch items in the city by now. The falafel are NOT dry--this is important!--and the bowl is the perfect mix of those with the quinoa, fresh greens, diced tomatoes, pickles, and a tahini sauce. We got the falafel bowl with was presented beautifully. The falafel balls were cooked to order spiced really nice they were wonderful as were all the salads and the hummus. It was all excellent . I went back the next day for the swarma fries which were cooked to order and hot and delicious . I love this food truck. read more

What is there not to like about this place? The food was so light, flavorful, and delicious. Hits all the textural complements inadore in this life. Creamy hummus, crunchy veggies, soft melty pita, perfect texture and moisture content of the falafel. I had the god father 2 days in a row and I have no regrets. I love that they have a online ordering system as waits can be long and crazy on the Eastern prom. read more

I love these guys. Love that you can order ahead of time online, and the food is so damn fresh. They've also started making smaller falafel balls, which is fun and makes it easier to eat. Still the best falafel I've ever had. Can't believe they get this flavor out of vegan options- their hummus is creamy, their harissa is perfectly spicy, their pickles are sweet and crunchy- it's just unbelievable quality. It's a little pricey but you absolutely get what you pay for. Get a pita pocket, a bowl, or a side of anything- you can't go wrong. And the best part is that the two guys that are always in this truck are happy to help. Even when absolutely slammed with a million orders, they're friendly and funny. That's rare and awesome. 10/10. Very limited number of items ok the menu but I don't mind that. The bowl is healthy and tasty. What I didn't appreciate was how they named certain items - it was misleading. The shawarma fries tasted exactly like barbecue flavored potato chips - nothing like shawarma. The prices are also too high for the portion size. The area they were parked in had a lovely ocean view and street parking wasn't too difficult to find on a cold October Sunday afternoon. read more

I was visiting Eastern Prom today when I jogger started a conversation and told me I had to try this food truck. I grabbed a crispy chicken pita on my way out and it was fantastic. Balance tends to be an issue for me with a lot of pitas but this had so much flavor and balance of ingredients! I enjoyed every bite, as well as my conversation with the people involved. read more

Falafel Mafia is DOPE. The Godfather pita is definitely the best, most filling option. I got the quinoa bowl one time and it just wasn't as much food or as good. Those fresh pitas make all the difference. For the better bang for your buck, get the Godfather and don't look back. Falafel Mafia's falafel is crispy and well-cooked. The sauce and hummus are great too. The one thing I will say is that these are very American-ized falafel options. That's not necessarily a bad thing at all, but this falafel is not accompanied by pickled veggies; it simply has lettuce and tomato with hummus and sauce. Again, NOT a bad thing, but just a note if that's not what you're looking for. The people who work the truck are super friendly. There is often an incredibly long line when this truck is at the concerts at Thompson's Point, and they always remain kind and helpful even in that chaos when customers are losing patience. read more

I'm feeling a little Tom Pettyish regarding the Falafel Mafia food truck: "Oh, my my, oh, hell yes Honey, put on that falafel dress(ing) Buy me some food, you don't have to sing me a song I'll take another pita pocket 'cause I can't stay long..." This might be my new favorite food truck. WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG TO TRY THEM? I don't know, but I'm a fool. Unfortunately, I have no proof that I've ever actually eaten here because I forget to take photos of my food... it's usually inhaled *that* quickly (also: I have no shame admitting this, but I can't seem to eat one of their sandwiches like a normal human being... it always ends up all over my face and in my hair). But let me tell you this: It's the best falafel I've ever had. EVER. HAD. As a plant-based dinosaur, I've eaten my fair share of falafel. More often than not it's dry, dry, dry and leaves me choking. Falafel Mafia's falafel leaves me choking... but that's from how fast I'm eating their deliriously delicious food (maybe this is why I find tahini sauce behind my ear? because I'm just smashing it into my gob like a beast?). A worry for me from food trucks are usually whether or not the vegan thing I'm ordering is actually vegan. I don't have to worry about that here. Another worry for me from food trucks is that I'm getting the best value for my dollar. Nothing fries my chickpea fritter like handing over a chunk of cash to receive an itty bitty portion. The price point here is $10ish... and, trust me, it's absolutely worth it. The Mobster, my favorite, is a big ol' fresh made pita that's STUFFED with falafel, hummus, lettuce, pickles, pickled onions, and tahini. And it's not just the top part of the pita that's filled - they stuff that thing right down to the bottom so every bite is a wallop of flavor. Don't be a Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins: squirt some sriracha on there. You're welcome. I do not generally give 5 star reviews after a first visit somewhere... this is an exception for one explicit reason... My autistic four-year-old who is exceptionally picky when it comes to what he eats, genuinely consumed 2/3 of my order of shawarma seasoned French fries! In addition, as if more was needed, the guys on the truck word incredibly friendly. The bowls they serve things in say made from plants compostable, right on the top! The food itself is exceedingly delicious!! The tahini is creamy, humus is delicious, the Pita is beautifully soft and fresh, the individual falafel patties are crunchy and tasty in their own right without any sauce.. And as I said, the French fries are a huge hit with my kids as well as myself! Apparently they are on Spring street and temple street, by the nicelodeon cinema movie theater Tuesdays and Thursdays but travel elsewhere other days. On a busy afternoon, we surprised my wife with the mafia bowl in between appointments. She was thrilled at how delicious it was! We got to eat together for a few minutes in my vehicle and then she was back off to her tasks. This is somewhere we will absolutely find again in future! read more

Trust the Yelp reviews, this was really delicious! Ordered the Godfather and the Shwarma fries and both were freshly made and delicious! Service was friendly too. The ambiance at the Eastern Promenade is not the greatest, but the food was so good it didn't really matter. The sandwich had the perfect balance of falafel, veggies, sauce, and pita in every bite. I look forward to returning to this truck in the fall, when it's not so hot out. read more

We ran into this the Falafel Mafia way up in Union, Maine, at the Maine Antique Fair. Surrounded by expensive used furniture, it was a welcome relief to see that there was something other than hot dogs and hamburgers. Never did I expect that the food from the Falafel Mafia truck would be as good as it was. Both the Gyro and Falafel pita sandwiches were large and filled with great spices and sauces. I don't know what they put in their falafels, but they are the best we have ever had, hands down. I hope they have GPS on their truck so I can follow it around! read more

Hard to believe, but I've never been to the Old Port Festival--until yesterday. It was okay. Lots of people, walking around, with a ton of fair food. Not many choices, if you're plant-based. Oh, there was music, too. Luckily, while making our way through the crowd on Middle Street, I almost ran smack into the side of the Falafel Mafia Food Truck. When I stepped around to the front, I noticed that their menu had vegan choices and amazingly, there wasn't a line (yet). We stepped up, placed our order, and then, a line of 15 people materialized. My festival cohort went with The Mobster--a pita stuffed full with falafel, hummus, lettuce, pickles, pickled onions, and tahini, I think. I had the salad version, with quinoa. Amazing!! Then, they have this peach sauce that I saw people putting on their Mobsters. It looked like mustard, but it wasn't!! Wow!! The festival was good to check-off having gone. So glad we found the Falafel Mafia. I'll be looking forward to future, summer visits. read more

I finally got to try Falafel Mafia at gastro gogo and they were definitely my favorite truck! I had already heard amazing things about their potatoes, so we ordered those and the man working the counter suggested a Mafia bowl. It was incredible. It was so fresh and there was everything from quinoa to pickled veggies along with the most delicious, creamy hummus and the best falafel I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, flavorful and not even a little dry. I was sharing with my boyfriend and we both couldn't get over how perfectly everything went together... and dipping those potatoes into the hummus left over from our bowl was a game changer. Found this food truck at an art festival and oh my yummy goodness- their falafels are amazing! I ordered the falafel bites because they were easy to eat and walk with. They had the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and they were soft and delicious on the inside. I saw other people walking away from the truck with great looking pitas and that's what I would get next. So happy I found a place who knows how to make a REAL falafel! Crazy rude people running this place. I understand they are tired and they were "out of cabbage" which can make anyone irritable but no excuse for being so dismissive and condescending. Every fake "thank you" was given by a "now get the f out of my face" attitude. They seem successful from all the reviews, maybe they really don't need the business anymore. Reminded me of soup nazi, Seinfeld episode. It was so crazy, I watched the regular customers order timidly not to inadvertently offend the cashier. I guess we are just lucky to be alive and that there is a truck at all on the promenade. read more

I wasn't able to finish all of my shawarma fries but they were fantastic. I was pleased to see that my fries and falafel were cooked to order, most places don't take the time to do that. read more

Falafel Mafia is a great bang for you buck for lunch. Their falafel is very tasty and filling! Sometimes they are super busy for lunch and the line is long. The Godfather is a loaded pita sandwich with everything in it and the Mobster is slightly smaller, simpler version. Prices are very reasonable and food is fresh and consistent. read more

Service was very polite and patient, and the food was awesome. They've got two vertical spits going for shawarma. The kebabs are displayed in the fridge and then cooked, so flavorful and interesting. There are several tables to sit and dine in if that's your vibe. It was torture driving home with the delicious smells. Don't skip eating the pickled veggies, they're unique and delicious! The portions pack a punch for the price. Next time I'll dine in and enjoy everything hot and fresh without the wait. The desserts also looked really good, next time!

It's likely we just showed up during an off day/time but left more disappointed than excited. Booked a reservation for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary of when we started dating and they did include a card thanking us for choosing to celebrate it with them. Was a nice little touch. Inside has a rustic feeling vibe and the low ceilings does make it quite loud. Our server eventually greeted us and took our drink orders. I had a spicy tequila cocktail called Kissies and Poppies while my wife had a gin based cocktail called Secret Garden. Both were decent but nothing special enough to rush back for. Appetizer wise the only one on their menu during our visit was freshly sliced prosciutto which was tasty but did not stand out anymore than your typical grocery store prosciutto. For the main event and the purpose of checking them out my wife got the Shrimp Linguine in Butter and Garlic. I gave their Grilled Lobster Linguine in Butter and Garlic a try. Both dishes had great flavor and they did not skimp on garlic! Lobster does come in shell and our server did warn us. Despite the good taste the slow service really left a sour taste in our mouths. Our reservation was for 9:30 PM (showed up a bit early) and didn't receive food til almost 10:30 or after and we ordered relatively quick. Our server did come over once during our wait saying it would be soon. Though once we got our food the server didn't check on us again til we finished. Maybe it was due to being part of the last meals being served. Not a great excuse but who knows, extremely lackluster service for a higher end spot that should make you feel welcome! We did skip out on dessert to avoid more waiting. Im glad so many people enjoy this spot, but if my wife and I are feeling a nicer dinner we will go elsewhere!

Everything was authentic and fresh. The chicken was well-seasoned and delicious paired with their tzatziki. I could've done without the additional fries included with the plate, as they were kind of bland to me and the meal had plenty of food already. Next time I would try rice instead. It would be helpful if they added prices to the menu boards. Overall, no big complaints. I plan to come here again to check out the samosas.

From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by their incredibly friendly and helpful staff (I can speak only English). On my first visit, I hadn't noticed the freshly baked bread until after I had paid for my items. When I returned to buy the bread, they kindly offered it to me for free as a warm welcome to a new customer. That thoughtful gesture truly reflected their customer-oriented approach and made me feel right at home. The store has a great variety of spices and specialty items that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Their prices are also very fair. They also offer warm fresh Middle Eastern takeout dishes and carry fresh Halal meat, including lamb, which is a huge plus. This place is truly a hidden gem, and I'm so happy to have found it!

There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!

I have to concur because I stopped her with my co-worker and my husband for a couple of beers and have to say two things: 1) they have a great beer list that rotates frequently, 2) the bartenders are top notch. You know sometimes you go to a cool beer place and it seems like the bartenders want to do ANYTHING but actually give you a beer in exchange for cash? This place is the opposite and it's wonderful. Very helpful with the beer list, suggestions, tastes, etc. They are also quick to offer another beer where as some places it seems like pulling teeth to try to get a beverage. It was lively but not slammed when I was there but I can tell these guys would manage great even if the bar was two or three deep with customers. Yeah, I thing the Mash Tun is one of the best beer bars I've been to and in a place like Portland that is in the top echelon of beer cities, that is an achievement to respect.
