Quasar Drive In is a wonderful little addition to the area, when all of our previous drive-ins had…read moregone the way of the Dodo. We first experienced Quasar during the COVID pandemic, which was so nice to be able to go see a movie without leaving your car or having to be around people in close proximity during that time. It's a very spacious plot with a single screen, so definitely getting there early can help get a good spot to stake out for the movie. Arriving early also gives you the chance to see the beautiful sunset behind the screen. We saw a double feature of Grease/American Graffiti, which were super fun to see at a drive-in, as it fits with the theme of the movies. A lot of people brought their classic souped up cars, which I think they do a lot of the times, not just for Grease showings. Quasar's shows are a LOT of retrospective films (like Grease, obviously), but they also do show a handful of current films in between those, like Barbie, Antman Quanumania (when those came out) and the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, which would be so fun to see at a drive-in with a big crowd of Swifties. My only little bugaboos were that the concessions are a little hard to find and the lines for concessions are super long. The entrance is also a little hard to find if you're coming from Omaha to Valley. If you love classic movies, the nostalgia of going to the drive-in, or just want to have a night out in the nice outdoors in the sunset, definitely give Quasar a try.

Really nice drive in theatre friendly people. Easy to find and park nice concessions and big screen…read morefor viewing

Outlandia Music Festival - VIP pavilion

    Outlandia Music Festival

UPDATE: August 2024 - VIP Experience…read more I attended Oulandia this year in the VIP area, so wanted to update with that experience. IMO It's totally worth it to do VIP if you want a more comfortable time at the show! I did the normal VIP, not the "Ultra VIP" (the Ultra VIP doesn't seem super worth it for the few things you get above the normal VIP). Some of the perks of the VIP ticket: -A special entryway and security pass through -Chairs and tables in the VIP pavilion (so no lugging your camping chairs in) -Overhead fans in the VIP pavilion to keep you cool, along with the shade -Your own private bar where you order your drinks (and can buy your tokens too at the same windows) -VIP bathroom trailers that are pretty high end and air conditioned -A special VIP viewing area that goes right up to the stage -A private food option for sale (it was Via Farina this year, not sure if it's different every year) Those were the big ones for me, but I might be missing some things too! Now the only two downsides I can think of to the VIP tickets: -It definitely can be expensive if you're paying for it yourself and not from a sponsor company or something. -You are a little "away" from the fun atmosphere of the crowd while you sit at your table in the pavilion (but you can join the crowd and then head back to the pavilion if you want to meet friends, etc) And in terms of Outlandia 2024 in general - I think they may have made a mistake having the two biggest bands on the same night (Flaming Lips and The Faint). The Saturday lineup was not as strong. I like a few songs from the main headliners on the Saturday lineup, but not anything near the two that were on Friday. Just my opinion, but I may be in the minority of thinking that. The whole festival didn't seem as packed as the past two years. I hope Outlandia keeps happening, because it is a fun festival with definitely some good acts each year!

Holy smokes! What a great event. This is a small, chill festival with a great lineup in 2024. Especially loved the asian truck had appetizers for $5 so made for a reasonable priced snack. Kind of a bummer pizza was only available in VIP.. We didn't camp, so can't speak yo that part of the event. A couple opportunities for improvement is the limited amount of information on the website and lack of hand washing station at the bathrooms (there was one at the food area but that was quite a walk). We weren't sure what would be allowed in, and since we took a ride-share in, didn't want to risk it. But chairs of all types/sizes and bags were allowed (we even saw people haul in with wagons and one group had a small pop up tent for their kids to get shade.

I had always wanted to go to the balloon and wine festival in Temecula California but we never did it. They had lots of food trucks and small local vendors. They also had a band and a DJ. It was pretty crowded but not so much that you couldn't get through. It was a nice night but probably just a one time experience for us. If you've never been, I suggest you try it out.

I tried purchasing tickets online just to find out that the online ticket discount had ended two days before the event. The entrance along with 5 tasting was $21 at the entrance. Ok price but not worth the quality of the wines. Lots of local table wines and one whisky to try. The balloon inflated at night which was a nice sight but they never lifted off the floor. The last event I went to a few yrs ago, same thing happened...and one of the vendor told me that the night before the balloons did not launch either. They were nice to look at though. It was also close to 100F and I witnessed a close medical emergency with an older lady, I ran to ask one of the sponsors if they had cooling stations for people and they just looked confused. We were able to get the older lady to a shady area and provide cold water. The band playing did a great job trying to cheer the crowd, but it was just one type of music the whole night...and if no balloons were launched or (ever meant to be launched), at least get the crowd dancing with a good DJ or a variety of entertainment. I enjoyed the event overall, but I've been to better events in the Omaha area and they were free. With that said, there is potential for the event to improve.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well aksarben showed up - I have never been to Maha before so I didn't know what to expect, but it was generously supplied with vendors, events, and other fun things to do. I loved the music and the way they were able to set up the amphitheater, they had great artists and everyone seemed to have an awesome time. There was such a variety of vendors you didn't miss out on any one thing -- from chalk, to jewelry, to lotions, to thrift tees, to skateboarding and a whole entire area dedicated to crafts and art thanks to mill work, there was plenty to do and enjoy!! I personally didn't go all day or in the afternoon time, I could see how you could spend about 2-3 hours here but anything more than that would've been too much for me. It a was a beautiful night and a great environment, I wish the Ferris wheel was open longer so that we could've gotten a ride but the line was as long as the street! They also had free water which was awesome to see how they were trying their best to take care of everyone who came. I was impressed by this event and hope to return next year!

Main reason I loved this year is getting to see Belle & Sebastian live in Omaha. The crew from Glasgow is one of my longtime/all-time favorite groups and their set was magical. Really fitting/beautiful how the sun set behind the stage as they performed. Also saw The Faint for the first time in probably a decade and had to get down and dance -- because when you see The Faint, you dance. The drag I took from some rando dude's (tobacco ;]) joint helped with that. Hey it's what you do at music festivals. Great times all around and one of the best annual events in Omaha!

Even if you hate Jazz…read more Every Tuesday in June, the Sheldon Art Association brings in renowned & local jazz acts to perform on the lawn of the Sheldon Art gallery on the beautiful UNL campus. If you love jazz, you'll enjoy it - but most people are there for the atmosphere. Grab a lawn chair or a blanket & some bug spray & show up early to pick out a good spot. By the time the music starts, the Sheldon Sculpture Garden looks like a giant quilt from all of the people on blankets. This is a relaxing summer evening out in the open air. You'll be surrounded by friendly people, kids playing cards on blankets, people reading or doing crosswords, lots of dogs, & lots of babies. TIPS: If you're a hardcore Jazz fan, you may want to sit close to the front. This is a social event, & people will talk through the whole thing. Likewise, if you're social, you may want to sit towards the back or wander the sidewalks that wind through the garden. Bring a picnic dinner & dine on your blanket while listening to live music on a warm summer evening. Wonderful. Bring cash. You'll want some UNL Dairy Store Ice Cream for dessert, won't you? They're located with many other vendors at 12th & R (another dinner option). Go to the bathroom beforehand, if you can help it. Otherwise, you can find restrooms in Architecture Hall (rumored to have the largest urinals EVER) or in the basement of Ferguson Hall. If you plan on bringing your dog, make sure he/she plays well with others, or you're asking for trouble at this event. Lots of dogs here. UPDATE: As of 2010, dogs are no longer allowed at this event. If you bike there, there's a rack where you can lock it up in front of Ferguson Hall (northwest corner of the crowd).

If you grew up in Lincoln you'll see people you'd forgotten that you knew, and even if you didn't, you get a good look at the patchwork of people that make up Lincoln. It's a great way to enjoy a summer day and get to know the city a bit better.
