I'd been wanting to try this food spot FOREVER. It just seemed every time we were in town looking for food it was the wrong day. We basically tried everything on the menu. A fried ono fish burger, a seared ahi sandwich, cheesy seafood dip, and the cookies. Everything was awesome! The fish burger had lilikoi tartar sauce and the fish was super fresh tender and flaky. The ahi sando had chopped kimchi and a garlicky mayo. The dip had a touch of smoke and didn't taste fishy. The cookies were bigger than I imagined and were excellent especially with the generous sprinkling of maldon sea salt crystals. If I was forced to split hairs, I'd wished the seafood medley in the dip (shrimp, halibut, etc) were chunkier so you could identify what was in each bite. It was more whipped or creamed together. I also think the cookies would be better if they were just a little thicker, although I can see the allure of a thin crispy cookie also. The cost was pretty expensive, but the ingredients they use are fresh and high quality so you can see where the money goes. The staff were really above-and-beyond friendly. They quickly set up an extra folding table for our family when they noticed we had no where to sit. Please visit this food cart (and follow them on socials, to keep track of their weekly specials) -- let's keep them in business! My first time enjoying the food here, but I've followed them on Instagram for a few years now and have wanted to taste their food because it always looks so amazing. The service was quick and the brewery it's located in is a super chill environment! The pictures don't do the food justice. It was the most amazing lobster roll I have ever had. I'm from Alaska so I don't have much experience tasting lobster rolls, but the lobster was cooked to perfection, seasoned perfectly and then drizzled with chili oil as a finishing touch. I have been meaning to write a review for Familia for quite some time. Their menu changes often, which makes it a little tricky to sum it up in one review, but that is also part of what makes it exciting. After months of ordering takeout here, I can honestly say the food has never let me down. The dishes are always colorful, packed with flavor, and you can tell the owners put a lot of heart into everything they create. The effort and care really come through in every bite. The staff is friendly, quick, and always makes you feel welcome. Since they are located inside Anchorage Brewing, you can enjoy a beer sample while you wait, although the wait is usually short anyway. Placing an order online was seamless, and I appreciated the ability to customize my meal with add-ons like grilled onions, feta, and hummus. Let me just say--those grilled onions were a revelation. They added a smoky, slightly sweet depth that complemented the already flavorful gyros perfectly. The food itself? Absolutely phenomenal. It was the kind of meal where you don't even mind how messy it gets because every bite is so worth it. My husband and I split both gyros, and while the chicken was delicious--juicy, well-seasoned, and wrapped in soft, warm pita--it was the leg of lamb that truly stole the show. When placing our order, we gave our phone number three times and even wrote it down, but it was still recorded incorrectly. As a result, we never received a text notification, and by the time we checked on our own, our food had been sitting out--it was cold and soggy. Although the staff offered a brief apology, it felt inadequate given how expensive the food is. The layout inside is also confusing. There's no clear signage or guidance when you walk in, so it took some wandering to figure out that food pickup is on one side of the building and water is self-serve from a faucet at the bar. Took me entirely too long to give this place a try (SHAME ON ME FOR REAL). It was better for my wallet though because the food they serve here is right up my alley. I'm writing this review as I wait in line to try their newest creation. The 3rd meal I've gotten from here in a 5 week span so you can say I'm slightly obsessed. I agree with Andrew H on the friction process. They're only open 3 days a week (Thurs-Sat). Start serving at 2pm, and end at 8pm. They've now extended their Friday & Saturday hours to 10pm, which is awesome. I love ABC, but am rarely just at this brewery by happenstance so I've actively had to come check out Familia's food. The food here is expensive for a pop up kitchen, but given the quality of the ingredients they utilize & the intricacies of their dishes I do understand the cost. Portions are definitely going to be more on the Conservative scale. I do get filled up from their meals though! I love the concept of a weekly rotating menu. As a person who enjoys trying new things this concept really excites me. Seeing their weekly social media posts is a big ol hit of dopamine for me. Because of their rotating menu I've patron them so frequently in such a short time frame. As far as I am aware they're the only restaurant in Anchorage that executes this dining concept. I've tried their bao buns, bison sliders, and now waiting for my seared Ono noodle bowl. Everything I've eaten from here has been delicious. The presentation is impeccable, and the ingredients are good quality. They also source a lot of their stuff locally from small farms, and growers. Familia does a great job being innovative and creative with their menus. They are definitely worth a try especially if you are someone who is into food presentation! read more

Familia is part of a new trend in dining that's happened during COVID which I will term: high-quality, high-friction. High-quality because the food is more like that one food geek you know that throws the elaborate BBQs, dinner parties, and cook outs (despite what people not from the south might tell you, a "BBQ" and a "cookout" are two VERY different things) that you wish you were invited to. They often also specialize in just a feel items, done incredibly well. High friction because ordering or obtaining the food usually requires a lot more "homework" for the diner than a "normal restaurant". There are hoops to getting the food, you will have to jump through said hoops. Familia's food quality is very high. We got a beef noodle bowl and it was unequivocally the best version of this food I've ever had. A great balanced of sweet/salt/umami and even spice. (rare for Anchorage) The price was also high, nearly $20 for a bowl, ouch. Onto the friction: Familia is located inside Anchorage Brewing Company. If you're drinking tasty brews inside ABC, I'd imagine the process is frictionless. If you're like me, and don't feel cozy dining inside until you get your second shot of Maderna, it's a little bit more involved: First: make sure it's Friday or the weekend, they don't do weekdays. Second: go to their Instagram (@familia.ak) and see what they have. (their dish changes every week_ Third: if you're getting takeout, call them on their phone or walk into ABC and order. Their website looks like you can order from it, but it hasn't worked the 3 times I've tried it. Some will think I'm mean for only giving some of the best food I've had 4 stars, and that's fair. Reasonable people can and should disagree, but, for me, the friction of the process rubs off one of the stars. read more

I was excited to find this place! Granted it took a little figuring out. Situated within Anchorage Brewing Company is this little pop up that's here Fridays and Saturdays. Due to COVID, they're currently not doing online orders but are here cooking up a storm. The broth is totally 5 star worthy, soooo flavorful that I drank it like soup! The pork filling was good although a little sour?...so more 4 stars but I would've kept it at 5 star rating if it wasn't for the price! Yowsers! $16 for 6 dumplings O.O that's crazy! But I wasn't going to turn back now! I bought a cookie from the bakery next door to ensure I had enough calories... Gal working said usually they have a different menu every weekend and to look on their Facebook or IG (website only had an address and a cell phone that no one picks up =\) I am still intrigued at what else they have to offer, even at this price point (I really want to try the shredded pork bowl on their site!) so I'll be back! read more

Shift work really made it tough to find a time for both my wife and I to be available with the very limited hours/days Familia is open for, not to mention how quick it seems they can run out of food. On our visit we got pork belly sandwiches, definitely tasty. Portion size to price is okay, but keep in mind they are going for a high quality meal where quality beats out quantity. The pork belly was crispy and juicy, the bread was very nice and held together for the sauciness of the overall sandwich. Other than the pork there was a nice smattering of fresh veggies including a couple slices of purple daikon radish which was a nice balancing of the richness of the pork belly and the added spice of the chili oil I added. I'm glad we went super early for dinner and a couple beers at the brewery... because around 6 pm they packed up shop, apparently sold all their goods. Would of been majorly disappointing to of shown up at 6 on the weekend to an empty Familia space. The food ultimately was very good, but it is incredibly inconvenient time wise and it seems even when you can make it there you'd better show up real early. read more

Such a chill place located in Anchorage Brewing! New menu every weekend and such variety to keep my palate curious for more. They serve up NOMs Thursday thru Saturdays only. This weekend it was a meatball sub extravaganza! AK bison or a veggie option of a mushroom/eggplant/rice. I went all 3 days! Loved both the options - so delish and savory meatballs on a fire-toasted bun with garlic butter, then topped with marinara sauce that'll knock your socks off and a mozzarella/parmesan cheese blend melted and ooey-gooey all over the sub. Fuck me up Familia. Excuse my French, but I always knew this place was bomb. Forgive me for finally making my way here, just today. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, shortly after Familias 2pm opening. Todays dish was garlic shrimp noodles OR mushroom noodles. We ordered the garlic shrimp noodles with chili sauce, I believe it was. So ono! Lots of flavor, seasoning was generous. The noodles were near Al dente (not slimy, how I prefer), and this is coming from someone who's never tried Pho because I'm THAT picky about my saimin texture). I plan to come and support more often. This place is amazing! Nice little place inside anchorage brewing co. The pig roast was amazing, wish the bowl was a bit bigger but other than that this was amazing! The presentation on this was just pure picture worthy. The pickled carrots, radishes and micro greens from ak sprout topped it off very well and added all the freshness you needed. The pig was a bit oily but I'm glad it wasn't dry. Would highly recommend giving them a try. read more

The food is good, but way too expensive for the portion. Last week we made a point to go for the Bison Shepard's pie. There were a total of 3 cubes of bison in my meager portion , mostly mashed potatoes, and I was still hungry afterwards ( felt bad for my poor husband, as I dragged him there- he must have been starving.)
