The food quality is one of the highest in Anchorage. You get real food and not a bunch of artificial garbage, or microwaved items. The service is great but the best part of the experience is being able to cook food right at your table. The experience of that makes it a lot of fun. I love the decor and the overall experience, especially since the sushi bar is right up front where you can watch just as you would if you were in japan. It's a very enjoyable experience but also has some simpler items for those uncomfortable with an all around fusion experience. Ex. All 4 of us ordered Bento Box lunches: 2 salmon, 1 steak, 1 chicken thigh. All were DELICIOUS! The service was a little off: they brought out the steak and chicken boxes, then 5 minutes later 1 salmon box and then 10 whole minutes later the other salmon box. That was kinda lame. We got the Mongolian beef which just tasted ok. The meat was a little on the tough side. The sesame chicken had a light batter and sauce and it was also just ok although the portion size was decent. The house special fried rice had a good amount of shrimp and other meats but was an average portion size. The combination yakisoba was nothing special as well. The common denominator is the fact that all of the entrees came out lukewarm. The hottest thing on the table was the hotpot. I quite enjoyed the udon noodles and the broth was decent. The service was just ok. She disappeared for quite a while after all the food was on the table. We were a large group and so was the table next to us and I'm sure she had other tables as well. This is FUN In A Shabu Shabu Pot! We had friends come with us and this place is awesome for groups! We started out with a couple appetizers. Soft Shell Tempura Crab, Asian Wings And Tempura Shrimp. All delicious. Then we went to the main event Judy and I got the Assorted Combo with Lamb, Pork & Beef in a Szechuan Broth. The veggies come with the meal but you can order a-la-carte extras like our friends did with mushrooms. It's a fun place with friends I'd recommend to anyone! Our friends are moving to Maderia, Portugal so I picked up a couple bottles of Maderia wine and the place had no problem with bringing this special wine in. Most places will allow it for a nominal de-corking fee. We even went for deserts too! The table shared the deep fried ice creams both vanilla and green tea! This is the former Yakitori from Tudor Rd. I was a long time regular there before it burned down and I had moved out of state. I came back to visit Alaska and heard this was the place Jeff the owner had opened up and I was so excited. We were lucky enough to catch him between errands and he remembered myself and kids who are now grown. The quality is wonderful, everything I loved tasted as I remembered. Now the menu has expanded to including Korean hot pot and new dishes. I'm so incredibly happy that he has found a new location and has continued to be able to do what he loves. We have been wanting to go to this place for a while now, but it was always poppin when we would think about grabbing a bite out. Soooo we thought ahead this time && planned to go for an early dinner. There were so many choices to decide on starting with choosing either the hot pot table OR the grilling table OR you could even sit at a regular ol table and order form their traditional menu filled with sushi && other yummy sounding dishes. WE opted for the grilling side this time. We started with some freshly fried Crab Rangoons which were good. I'm lactose so I only had one but the husband LOVED them. We then had some Miso soup - GUUUURL it was delish! We then ordered some mixed tempura, nice and fresh && then the oysters. Man if you know us - we could both eat our weight in oysters && they did not disappoint - super fresh && the sauce was nothing I'd ever had with fresh oysters, still a vinegar base & maybe some soybean oil. YUM! MOVING ON to the main event - the grilling side OR Yakiniku which translates to "Believe Me", which BELIEVE ME it was sooo much fun to grill the thinly sliced cut meats & fresh assortment of mixed veggies which were presented very beautifully. The dipping sauce && freshly made kimchi (not pictured) was amazing! I asked for their not so secret spicy sauce called the angry sauce which was quite sneaky but delish. I have such mixed feelings about Yakishabu. When I get what I love it, when I don't, I don't. Every time I order on uber eats, I specifically choose the rolls with no crab and write in the box "do not make with crab", the order gets delivered and there's crab. When I go in and order the same order, no crab. The consistency lacks as far as in person/delivery and it bums me out. New restaurant in town. We arrived around 5pm and there was a line of about 14 people waiting for a table. It was about a 10 minutes wait before we got up to the counter. Having never been here and not really sure of the set up we opted for the "entree" menu and did not do one of the tables you cook at. 1- a little disappointed. I thought it was a hibachi style place where they cook for you. My partner was pretty set on us not cooking our own food as "that's what we do at home" 2- the music. They play like "current hip hop and r&b". Not really 'nice' restaurant music. (Yes I am old) 3- we just wanted water. We did not get any drinks until our food came out. 4- I was set on sesame chicken but you can only get that with white rice. Per the server "they aren't set up to sub in chicken fried rice". 5- I ordered chicken fried rice as my entree as I am pretty stubborn and was already not feeling this place. The rice was alright, but for the price of JUST chicken fried rice I can go to other places. 6 - My partner got the teriyaki chicken udon noodles. The chicken and veggies were delish. The noodles were a little too marinated for my taste. As others mentioned. They are a new restaurant and have some things to work out. Food, where to start, you can choose shabu shabu table which is the hot pot where you pick a broth, a noodle and a protein plus you get veggies and cook it all in the hot pot. We really enjoyed the shabu shabu! Try the assorted meats or the seafood with milky bone broth. We want to try the barbecue grill table next visit and maybe the sushi too. First off, 'I love Shabu shabu and was excited to hear about this new place in Anchorage. i had arranged to take some clients to lunch and thought this would be a good central location for us all and more importantly gave me an excuse to try it out for the first time. Notice I said "first time". Definitely will be back. i was seated immediately, first one there promptly at 11:30 and many people greeted me and wanted to serve me as I awaited my guests to arrive. There were so many menus, sushi menu, shabu shabu menu, chef specials menu, etc. A little overwhelming if "I hadn't already made up my mind to have the shabu shabu. i ordered the combo special with lamb, pork belly and beef in the spicy shechuan broth. Another ordered the same with the Tom yum broth. Lastly, another ordered the spider roll with seaweed salad. Hers came with a cup of miso soup too. She wasn't quite sure if she rally got the spider roll because she said normally the "crab" claws are still presented too. She seemed content with the food but maybe not the best sushi she has had in town. The only complaint i have is the service was really slow. Her sushi meal came out very quickly and had she not waited until ours came out she would have been finished with her meal. it took quite some time for the shabu meals to arrive and then we had to still heat up the broth and "cook our meats and vegetables. Again it was really good and worth the wait. I even had leftovers to take home, which for $33 shabu shabu at lunch time, I should. some of the vegetables like the bok Choy were not cut into manageable pieces and was a bit awkward to eat. I would have appreciated a small plate and knife. the other guest who ordered same but different broth ate all of his and said he could have easily stopped halfway through and saved for another meal as it was filling but it was so good, he just kept eating. I definitely will venture in again with family. I haves had better in California, my first introduction to shabu shabu, but I have also paid a lot more too. read more

I should have taken more pictures.. they don't do it justice. First off, interior decor is spot on! Lots going on and once you walk in.. the food smells amazzzzing. I ordered off of the sushi menu (too hungry and didn't picture) and tried the Yakiniku side as well as the hotpot. Portions were more than enough! For Alaska.. the pricing and options are good. I wanted to grab a quick bite and discovered this place. The restaurant wasn't too busy. It's a hidden gem and a great spot to enjoy a nice cozy and quiet meal. I ordered takeout: avocado roll and vegetable tempura. The avocado roll was perfect and had a wonderful texture. The vegetable tempura was perfectly fried, not too heavy or oily. It came with 2 pieces of asparagus and a piece of onion, carrot, pumpkin and zucchini. Both orders were delicious and incredibly rich in flavor. Their service was fast and the staff extremely friendly. I placed the order and within 15 min it was ready. Overall an absolutely fantastic experience and I will definitely be coming back! read more

Well this was an experience. Girls night, new place and I wish I could give it a better review. We did the Shabu Shabu, which in fairness I knew nothing about. The two girls that tried to explain just didn't really help so I quickly googled what to do. It's basically broth that you boil veggies, meat, and a few weird textured pieces of things that are similar to eggs. Not terrible but just different. Kind of like Pho but not as good. The dipping sauces are just an extra thing that doesn't make sense with broth and boiled food... It was more work than I expected and I wish that I had known more but that's my fault. The sushi roll we got was the potato roll and it had a very weird flavor. We got the fried Oreos and cheesecake, also just ok. There server was very sweet but very slow. Having never had hotpot, I don't have anything to compare it to. However, I'll say that I found it very tasty! I got the seafood, and hubby got the meat assortment (beef, pork, lamb). It all tasted very fresh and the portions were enough to be filling. Definitely a sit down, relax and chat type meal. Don't make my mistake and take your demanding toddler who likes to touch everything. The tables aren't huge and a kid in a high chair can easily reach into the pots. (obv my fault and didn't impact rating) The service left something to be desired. We were seated right away, and our order was taken promptly. It took maybe 15 minutes for our ingredients to come out but after that our server all but disappeared. We weren't given napkins and drinks weren't refilled once after getting our food. I had wanted to get more veggies/noodles and dessert but by the time the server checked on us we were almost done eating. Afterwards, We ended up sitting with empty bowls and plates for longer than I preferred. It out me off ordering dessert. (Went and got ice cream instead!) There's a whole lot of variety going on between hot pot, Korean barbecue and sushi it's not so much refined as it is Asian fusion. It's a bit of a cosmic gumbo. Servers are great, nice and attentive. For context, I have only been here for the Hot pot, so I can not speak on the sushi or grill aspects. This has quickly become my favorite restaurant, and if it weren't for budget, would be my pick every time I got to choose dinner. The hot pot is enjoyable just on the experience alone, but when combined with the food, you can't beat it. There are many choices as far as soup, meats, etc etc so you can customize and create your ideal meal, something that for me, is worth the price alone. To not walk out with leftovers I'll end up tossing because I had things I didn't want tacked on to my meal is always a huge plus, in my eyes. The food is delicious and the service is very speedy, minus some delays during the busiest hours of dinner, but that is to be expected anywhere. I hope Anchorage is able to open a few more spots that are quite as good as this one! read more

It was the wife and I's first time here. We first sat down at a bbq table not realizing there would be a difference. Once we saw there was different tables, we asked if we could do the hkt spot instead. The staff said no problem and we were able to switch. The staff then gave us a rundown of the menu and how it works. We ordered the ribeye, pork belly, mushroom combo,bok choy, and the tom yum broth. I had a spicy tuna handroll and my wife ordered the edamame. Everything came out in a timely manner. Everything was dekicious. The house sauces were well made and then there was recipes to make your own. My wife like the atomosphere and appreciated that there was space between the tables. My belly is happy and angry at the same time. Happy as the food was delicious but angry because i ate way too much. We will be back with more bellies next time. read more

They have one of, if not the best, crab Rangoon I have had lately. The service was just as great as the food, but the clean atmosphere really was the icing on the cake. We got the beef and pork belly and both were so tender and it was good portions also. Our server was so helpful and sweet and we will definitely be back soon to try the hot pot. I'm reviewing the hotpot side of this place. Yes, they have hotpot and grill area, so pick your poison. It wasn't super packed but we did go there on a Sunday lunch time. It was my first time trying hotpot so my knowledge is minimal. They did have some guides on the menu and by the tables on how to order which was nice. So the tables have individual soup pots, so you're not sharing with the whole table. The table we sat it can accommodate up to 6 guests, which I think it's majority of the tables, if not all of them. The broth was pretty flavorful, I didn't get the spicy one but I wish they'd specify which ones were spicy on the menu. My friend just happen to know and told me. I got the meat sampler and the meat tasted pretty fresh. It also comes with some veggies. I'm planning on going back and checking out the grill section. I recommend trying this place out. read more
