What a delightful surprise! A couple of foodie friends and I decided to check out a couple spots in Saratoga and we landed on a new spot, Familiar Creature. We had read that it was the same people who run Hamlet and Ghost, so we wanted to check it out. The inside is gorgeous, bright and welcoming. Very cute wine bar vibes with excellent cocktails and a small, but mighty, menu. All of our cocktails were gorgeous and well crafted, even some great mocktails. The menu is Montreal inspired, which we noticed immediately, and loved. We just wanted to split a couple things to try, so we ordered the poutine with duck confit and the steak tartare. The Poutine was fabulous! They ultra crispy house made fries had such good flavor on their own, but were made incredible with the gravy, melty cheese curds and decadent duck. This dish was amazing. The steak tartare was also very good and fresh, the house made chips were also killer. Last but not least, the maple soft serve. Heavenly! Ultra creamy and smooth with a great depth of maple flavor. The caramel swirl and crunchy nibs on the top were so good. I am not a big sweets person, but I would order this again for sure. Delicious. This is a hidden gem and surprised us all! I think everything was good except for 1 thing. Good solid food. Service was excellent. On the check they included a " kitchen administration fee." it was a very low percent, but it felt weird that it was included. Also it was odd it was included before tax. I just felt like I was being nickel and dimed. I would've rather they raise the price of the food items and paid the staff properly rather than adding in an arbitrary fee at the very end to ensure the staff gets adequate compensation. It might've been included on the menu, but I couldn't see it and when looking at the menu posted outside, it looks like that area was intentionally obscured (see photo). To reiterate, the staff was very kind, but it was odd of the owner to include this fee. read more

Went here for restaurant week and was blown away by the three course dinner with a wine pairing to go with it. I've been back for patio party and just stopping in. This food is incredible. The weekly flavors of soft serve ice cream are incredible. the wine knowledge is incredible. The only thing I didn't like was the soft serve i ordered had meringue on it, but a meringe the same consistency of the soft serve, I might have recommended a stiffer version to provide some texture contrast, but on restaurant week, not a big deal. read more

Quaint restaurant in a quaint area. Parking can be troublesome so allow time to find a place to park. All dishes are shareable. Everything we ate was so delicious! I loved the Brussel sprouts salad and I hate brussel sprouts. You must also order desserts! The lavender soft serve was the best soft serve I ever had. And the triple layered chocolate cake was heavenly! Not too sweet and super moist. The half chicken was perfectly cut to share and oh so tender! Great visit with friendly service. read more

I really love this place and come here often. My one gripe about it is the fact that the portions are very small and a waiter mocked us for being "very hungry" when we ordered an additional side after ordering and sharing two items. How dare I be hungry and eat at your dinner establishment where I trade money for your wares. Silly me! read more

So so good! I wish I took pictures because the food looked just as amazing as it tasted but we were enjoying ourselves too much to think about it! Hats off to Chef Michele, she's done an incredible job to create new spins on classic dishes with unique ingredients that are full of flavor. Cute newer place in downtown Saratoga right across from Solevo. Focus on small plates and I really love that because I gave this the opportunity to try a bevy of things and see what we liked. It did take a while for the food to come out and it wasn't very busy so that was a little frustrating. Loved the options they had on the charcuterie board and would eat that every day. They also had this mushroom terrene. That was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my whole life. It had a pesto and some arugula, and I think some goat cheese... Obviously mushrooms on the seated sourdough that was to die for. However, my friend went back two days later and they said their menu is seasonal and it rotates and they didn't have it on the menu anymore. So if they happen to have it absolutely order it. I thought the potatoes were boring. The broccolini was charred and needed a ton more sauce and salt. The bone marrow came out nice and had good flavor, but I thought the salt was a sauce and took a heaping spoonful of it and nearly sent myself into shock. Overall, though like the vibe and the ambience. Love being able to share small plates, so would eat at again. read more

I went to Familiar Creature for my birthday dinner last night (05/23/2026) and had a wonderful experience! We ordered several small plates to share- focaccia, poutine with duck, glazed carrots, and bucatini! Everything was delicious and our server Mikayla was very attentive and went out of her way to make it a very special evening! The wine list was incredible with a truly dizzying selection of both glasses and bottles to choose from! I loved the interior, very relaxed yet chic atmosphere with velvet seats and nice touches in decor. read more

We had a really good dinner at Familiar Creature! This is a great place to drink and/or eat, but it is small and gets very busy so make a reservation. Everything we got was very good - we don't normally eat chicken but the menu was pretty small and we wanted something hearty, but it was so flavorful and juicy. Definitely the star of the show. The potatoes were also amazing, and everything else we got. The drinks were also excellent and they have a lot of mocktail options. This is definitely one of the top restaurants/bars in Saratoga! read more

This is a wine bar that knows wine! There is something on the curated menu for everyone. To drink we chose a bottle of Chenin Blanc from the loire valley, a glass of the orange wine and a midori fizz. For food we ordered the cheeseboard that was customizable with several options (our choices: buttery goat cheese, cows milk cheese, smoked perch, country pate, olives) and included a baguette. We also ordered focaccia bread and Caesar salad. Everything was delivered by course which is good since the table was small. The only miss for us was the Caesar salad. The dressing with very heavy on lemon and didn't allow the other flavors to come through. We will definitely be back for date night. They know how to find incredible wine and pair it with delicious food. read more

You walk in and the vibe is excellent. Service was excellent as well. Food came out. All the dishes we ordered were spot on except the poutine w duck confit. It was quite salty which was a big turnoff. Mushrooms tempura was perfect. Steak tartare was tasty. Steak frites cooked very well. The ambience was nice but the acoustics were difficult. My husband and i were repeating things over and over because the music was loud and the acoustics were not good. If you're young w good ears and want the very hip vibe, then you're good. I'm a mom in her 40s just wanting to hear what my husband is conversing. But i would consider coming back, maybe not order the poutine and come at an earlier mealtime when the music may be quieter? read more

No it's not cheap but I think it's a unique idea in Saratoga Springs. I think the best approach to this restaurant without getting completely fleeced is to get a charcuterie plate and a couple of cocktails and call it a day. The wine is off the charts laughibly expensive.. and the roasted chicken isn't worth my time since I can do it much better from looking at a couple's order. Great place for sharing charcuterie, salad, sides and roast chicken! We came here several times in the past few months and have never been disappointed. The roast chicken is truly special, as are the local cheeses. Appreciate the well curated wine menu to pair with dishes too. I would give this place 6 stars if I could! We went for my grandmothers birthday and they treated us so well! The vibe is really cozy and welcoming. It's so charming, it feels like some place you'd stumble upon in the city. The staff gave us great wine recommendations, the charcuterie was delicious (especially recommend the chicken liver mousse). For the small plates, you HAVE to try the pork belly and the focaccia. And for dessert, they have homemade soft serve that you can't miss out on. It's definitely a more upscale place but it's 100% worth it and you'll be treated very well. read more

This Familiar Creature has an uncle named Hamlet. That Uncle is delicious and fantastic in every way, and the Creature is imbibed with the spirit that makes Hamlet special. The space itself is bubbly and warm, with a salmon-colored ceiling and a thoughtfully curated menu that was a joy to sample and share. It's a wine bar at it's nucleus. The menu is sumptuous and deceptively sophisticated supports the Montreal vibe of steel tables classic urban feel. The wines were obviously curated in each when I tried brought something interesting to the table. The meat and cheese platter checked all the boxes, offering something for everyone in our group of five. Together, we ordered a whole chicken with broccoli rabe, cauliflower, and potato salad--This fed 5 men and we left a pile of carnage on the table. Caroline Street has a long history of serving up amazing chicken and this Creature is looking to add to that legend. Familiar Creature feels like it was built for groups with tables and bar areas that see couples for larger groups. I wouldn't be surprised if you make some new friends at one of the countertops as there was room for that, and it feels like the place to do it. read more

Food was absolutely amazing. The grilled polenta was creamy crispy and had an amazing corn relish. The chickens so moist and subtly flavored. The sauces for the tomatoes salad and mussels caused us to order extra bread to mop up the sauce. Ambience inside is great but outside not so much. Visiting Saratoga and didn't expect this to be so good...had just come from Montreal and tbh this meal was better than anything we had in Montreal. Inside is cute/trendy. We sat outside. We ordered the pickled vegetables, marinated olives, chicken, Shmaltzy potatoes, cauliflower gratin, and the soft serve ice cream. The chicken was hands down, the best roasted chicken I've ever had. It was tender, moist with a delicious jus. The potatoes and cauliflower gratin were a perfect accompaniment. The house made soft serve was fantastic!
