Tanya answered all my questions and I had a lot! I have an almost 16 yo GMC that I'm trying to keep working for me. They did everything I needed. did an excellent job on the brake pads and rotors but when taking credit cards need to say something about charging 3 1/2% on using the credit card or most places don't charge kind of that you had to pay extra use a credit card there's nothing difference between a credit card and a debit card read more

If I could give this mechanic 10 stars I would. In the fall of 2019, we began having issues with our 2011 Chevrolet HHR being difficult to start. Took it to our "trusted" mechanic who we had been using for 3 years. The mechanic took several days (I had to rent a car) and while he checked and charged us trying to "fix" the issue he was unsuccessful. Paid him over $500. Then he directed me to the dealership who also tried to "fix" the issue and misdiagnosed the problem. That repair cost me almost $500. Still having no resolution to the original problem, I was referred to Carl at Family Auto repair. Within an hour he called me. I remember his exact words: "I am embarrassed that both other mechanics could not quickly identify the problem" The problem was with the throttle cable (less than $200). While the other services performed would have been needed at some point, they were not immediate needs. Carl and Family Auto has become my go-to mechanic and every time I take it there, the actual cost is always lower than the original quote. There have been instances when he didn't even charge me! I had major engine problems with all the warning lights going off in my Yukon. I was in Kansas City and had to get back to Springfield. On a sunday, stuck in KC, I called a mobile mechanic they changed the spark plugs to no avail and couldn't figure out what it was. I limped the vehicle back to springfield and went to 2 more mechanics that deduced it had major problems and couldn't fix it. A friend suggested Rick's Automotive on Campbell. He said they were expensive but could find the problem. I got the vehicle there and they told me I needed a new engine, (yikes!). I was quoted $6000.00 for a remanufactered engine, and $3500.00 for labor, ($9500.00). Obviously very concerned I started calling around to find an engine and called Hwy 160 Salvage and talked to Jason. He took the time to hear my plight and said he could get me an engine for around $4000.00 remanufactured with a 100k mile 3 year warranty. He said "before you do that take it to Karl at Family Automotive." He explained that if the engine could be repaired they could do it. I made the appointment and Family Auto got me in right away. I got a call the next day after dropping the vehicle off and GOT THE GOOD NEWS! They fixed the engine! A broken valve spring was the issue. There were a few other things that were addressed. They even put in a new motor mount and only had to replace two spark plugs. They also fixed a squeeking break issue I had unrelated to the engine. All for a fraction of what I was quoted from Rick's. I know where my family will be taking our vehicles from now on. Family Auto has the skill trust and ethics to work on vehicles. Trust and confidence is important. Carl and his staff are the best. This is by far the most honest and trustworthy automotive repair you will ever find. During a fix of my daughter's car there was an error made on their behalf (which we would have never known had he not been honest) and he ate the labor cost of the repair that turned out to be unnecessary. I'm totally convinced any other place would not only have never tolf us of the error but would have charged full price for their time. Hands down best place in town. I cannot tell you how much I recommend this Auto Shop over any of its competitors, period. These people give you a price that is honest and they do phenomenal work. They have helped me, my father and fellow students do repairs on their cars that would've cost two times the amount at any other shop. These people truly treat you like you are a part of their family. I've had numerous repairs done by family auto and have never had a single issue with them. Today they saved me almost $800 on a repair that I would've had done at ricks automotive. Repairs that didn't even need to be done to my vehicle that were proposed by ricks auto, and it was family automotive that saved me from having to go through steps that I normally would not of had to. This is the best auto repair shop I've been to. It's kind of like a hole-in-the-wall type of place but they are amazing. First repair shop I've been to where they show me exactly what they worked on and for example I had my brakes changed and they gave me a side by side comparison of the old brakes with the new. The mechanics actually come out a talk to you, and they don't overcharge for any work they do. It really feels like they truly care about their customers and are willing to answer any questions you may have. read more

Family Auto Repair is the best auto repair shop I've ever used. My wife and I have used them for a few years and they are outstanding. Once they fix a problem it stays fixed. Our car has 350,000 miles on it and it is still cruising down the road thanks to them. They charge a very fair price. They are the first mechanic I've ever been to that I've felt like I didn't pay them enough for the work they did. Our truck hit the age where it needed a new timing belt and the dealership was going to charge an incredible amount of money. Family Auto put in a new timing belt, fix a problem with a sticky brake, took care of a squeaky clutch, and ran a diagnostic on the air conditioner for less than half of what the dealership wanted just for the timing belt. When I told the owner how much the dealership was going to charge, he just shook his head. The truck has been running great with the new timing belt. When it comes to auto repair, Family Auto is definitely as good as it gets! read more
