I made an appointment over 3 weeks ago for an eye exam today. I completed the detailed new patient intake paperwork as instructed per phone/text and showed up 5 minutes early... just to find the front door locked. I peeped inside multiple times, and it appeared no one was inside. There was no note or sign indicating an unexpected closure. I literally had received a text this morning confirming I had an appointment today. I called the office twice, both of which went to voicemail. After waiting 10 minutes and trying the door three different times, I left. I'm typically not the type of person to make a big stink about something like this and would simply attempt to reschedule. However, I'm a new mom, and these appointments take quite some effort for my husband and I to coordinate. After waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, you could have at least spared me the time away from my newborn by letting me know even half an hour in advance that my appointment wasn't going to work out. read more

Worst doctor appointment experience - 1. Doctor didn't show up on the appointment time. I had to call twice to call her in but the office is supposed to (listed on help ) open 2.5 hrs earlier; 2. Because the doctor was late, there was not preparation or administrative work done beforehand. During the checkup process, the diagnostic is not clear; 3. I confirmed with her 3 times about sending the prescription out after the appointment but she didn't. I've been going to the Family Eye Center for almost three years. I go in annually to have my eyes examined and get new prescriptions if needed. I like Dr Kagan, she's not only a good optometrist but is very personable and friendly. I've been having fun picking out frames and recently got one that is great fun but I decided I need another pair a little more neutral and went back and got a second pair. I highly recommend family eye care optometry in Belmont. I wanted to use my annual benefit for eye check up and like every year, I decided to schedule the appointment right at the end of the year. Despite being extremely busy, Dr Alina Kagan was gracious to accommodate my request for an appointment and even went out of the way to squeeze in an appointment for my husband after hours. I also like the fact that you can get the basic eye check up with min copay done here as compared to clinics in SF where they make you pay upwards of $100 citing updated machinery and don't provide the option of checkups with just min copay. To top it all, Dr Kagan helped me find sunglasses within my annual spectacle allowance, so I not only didn't have to pay anything for the eye check but also walked away with a free prescription sunglasses (right in time for Christmas :) ). read more

Seriously, this is the best optometrist ive ever been to. I moved to the bay area few years ago and every optometrist ive visited were either over charging me or trying to scam my insurance by making me purchase things i didnt need. This might be the only honest optometrist in the bay area - seriously! Before i arrived to Family Eye Center, i called the office the day before to schedule an appointment. The lovely Olga THOROUGHLY explained my insurance coverage and was able to squeeze me in to their schedule the following day. Dr.Kagan was very kind and patient when i was getting my eye exam. I find that a lot of optometrists get annoyed when you ask them to flip between the lenses a few times when you are trying to determine your prescription. I'm writing this review from the perspective of a new patient; I assume most people reading these reviews will also be in a similar position. I called the office on Monday of this week to schedule a contact lens exam. After confirming they aren't open on weekends I asked if there would be any availability on Fridays or Mondays. The lady on the phone told me their next available appointment is in about 1.5 months out from now, and that I might want to call some other places instead. I told her that's no problem as I am in no rush and am willing to wait given the great reviews on here. In response, she gave me one date and time she had available. However, I told her that one specific time would not be ideal for me (due to my work schedule) and I asked if any other slots other than this one time were open. At this point, she told me she really needed to help other customers. She repeated that I should think about going somewhere else where they might have more appointments. I asked if she would be willing to call me back at a better time, and she took down my phone number. However, it's now been a full week and I have not heard anything. I tried calling them back several times but no one is picking up at all. Overall, this interaction over the phone has felt cold and unfriendly. I don't think a business should make it so hard to schedule an appointment even if they are as well reviewed as this one. If they are really that overwhelmed and don't want to accept new patients, why not just say so outright to save everyone's time? Anyway, hopefully they would appreciate this review as it is helping to convey more efficiently and directly their own message of not wanting to accept new patients. read more

So I called them the other day to book an appointment for my annual vision check. To my surprise, the assistant on the phone recognized me! She remembered me from last year and recognized my voice. In the past, I had struggled with my power but she explained to me the reasons why my correct power is the right one against test results. This Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for Dr. Kagan. I was referred to her by an optician who said Dr. Kagan is the best refractionist--and she was right! I'm very hard to refract (I can't tolerate the optimal Rx), and I've had a hard time finding a new optometrist since mine retired a few years ago. I've wasted many hundreds of dollars on incorrect prescriptions and multiple exams with other doctors. But, Dr. Kagan spent a lot of time ensuring that my Rx was perfect for me, and it was! The designer had stopped production of the style and Dr. Kagan found the last pair of these glasses in existence. Eight months earlier, another optician's office tried to find these glasses and couldn't, yet Dr. Kagan did. I know it was not an easy feat. This is a doctor that goes beyond for her patients. Dr. Kagan has become more than a doctor- she's become a caring friend. I had to switch optometrists due to a change in my vision insurance and after asking around, she came very highly recommended. I started going to her about a month or so after she opened her practice. Dr. Kagan takes time with her patients and makes you feel like the priority that you are. I am an EXTREMELY indecisive person and she patiently sat and walked alongside me as I tried on upwards of 50 frames (I was getting prescription sunglasses as well ). Just about 6 weeks ago, I had told her that one of the nose pads had fallen off of my sunglasses and asked her if she could have it repaired or knew where I could take them. Dr. Kagan told me to bring them in and that she would send them directly to the company to have them repaired. These are pretty expensive sunglasses with polarized lenses and I was SHOCKED when she called me to tell me they were ready and to come in and get them. Not only was the nose pad repaired... both lenses had been replaced and free of charge!!! I am very hard on them and Dr. Kagan took notice to that and went the extra mile for me.
