My dog, Wyatt, passed unexpectedly in 2022. We had no idea it was coming. The emergency vet asked if I wanted cremation for him and I said sure. Family Pet Mortuary took care of everything and sent Wyatt to the vet's office for my husband to pick up. I was so happy with what he came with. I cried not because he was gone, but because of the obvious care they took in the whole process. His little feet were preserved in ink and also in cement. The cement feet sit in my bathroom so I can talk to him when I get ready to go somewhere. His ashes sit in the living room with some trinkets and his collar. And I was able to get his paws tattooed on me with the ink prints they did. I am forever grateful to Family Pet Mortuary for their services and will use them in the future. read more

We lost our sweet boy one week ago and we went though our vet to set up the cremation. We received our boy today and the Urn is beautiful with his name on a plate in the front. I'm grateful they arrived on time because my dog had been suffering throughout the weekend but when I think about how he went I am very upset how they handled it. It's like they sent their grunt vets to put him to sleep and didn't give us any empathy or time to grieve our beloved german shepherd of 15 years and whenever I think about it I can't forgive them. I spent near 1000$ to bring relief to my beloved dog and although I am grateful he was taken care of, I can never get over how it was handled. We weren't given enough time to say goodbye to him. They didn't offer any condolences or care when it came to our grief for our beloved pet. We had them come to our house, hoping this would be a peaceful transition for our dog that we loved like a child. It was the most horrific experience that we will be stuck with for the rest of our lives there was zero empathy and little explanation for what was going to happen. We have put down several animals before but always took them in to the vet. We thought this would be better and more comfortable for us all which is why we paid almost $1000 when taking her in would have been half. Money was not the issue. They stuck her with a tranquilizer and she screamed and ran away in pain. I will never forget that scream. It will haunt me forever. They then injected her and she went to sleep and they carried her away on a stretcher. When going to the vet, they put a catheter in and gently apply meds to relax them....then you get to spend as much time as you want before the end comes. Anyway, I would not recommend this service as it was traumatic, expensive and not a peaceful way to exit this life. I only hope that our dog forgives us for this and knows we weren't trying to hurt her in her last minutes with us. Forever regret read more

I first want to say that there availability to do a same day in home Euthanasia was great or we lucked out that they had time. But that's where the good ends. Once the team arrived at the house it was sign here and what's your animals name? Neither one introduced themselves and both acted like they have never done this before and seemed very guarded and nervous. The lady of the team only spoke when she told us she was "giving her a sedative" and after the euthansaia dose that she couldn't hear the heartbeat. It was all very cold . They did offer a cardboard box (a casket as they called it) as they got back in their van. They could have done better all around. A year ago we had our boxer put down by a different vet that did in home services, unfortunately she wasn't available and I wanted my husband to be with me when we put our cat of 15 years down. Sad to say I will not be using them again, cremation services seem to be different then again you aren't face to face with grieving families. It was definitely operated as a business. After hearing that they changed owners, we hoped to have the same great experience people wrote about prior and since the change. Our elderly kitty reached the end of her time with us less than a week ago. It was comforting to know that the mortuary was able to accept her for cremation the day after her passing. Our dear April passed suddenly late one evening and we didn't know what to do as she was our family's first pet. My son called my sister in law and she recommended Family Pet Mortuary, stating John was wonderful when her pet had past away. That he is! He was kind and gentle with her as he took her from our truck bed and with us as we navigated through the process. He called a few days later to let us know she was ready. When we got there he brought out a nice bag with company logo and a beautiful wooden box with an engraved marker stating her name. I believe he upgraded it as it was not the standard box on display. We requested her paw prints and he did that at no charge as well. She was mid to larger dog and the cremation was very reasonable. It will be some time before we are ready for another dog, but knowing our time with our pets is limited we will definitely use and refer this company again. Thank you John for easing our pain during a difficult time. My only negative which really isn't negative, is that they use a call service. They are knowledgeable and will get John a message if you want a returned call. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. Our dog of 10 years just passed. We ordered a private cremation with a concrete paw print to be taken. They did the cremation without ever getting the paw print. Now the most important thing to us to have as a physical reminder of our sweet dog is beyond our reach forever. To top it all off they had the audacity to suggest giving us a the paw print of a different dog to make up for their mistake. Absolutely disgusting. Use at your own peril. read more

I am so grateful for the care and service provided by Family Pet Mortuary. A dear friend of mine experienced the worst tragedy and lost both of her beloved dogs in a house fire. We wanted to make sure that she was able to cremate them without any worry of cost. I called the mortuary while she was on her way to them with the dogs and asked if I could pay for the service and that they not let her know the cost. Everything was taken care of and handled so lovingly. She was able to spend some final moments with her babies before saying goodbye and got them back in a beautifully graved urn the very next day. I chose this place based on a vet referral and I regret it. I dropped off my dog on a Monday after the vet put her to sleep (Saturday late night). We were advised to keep her on ice in a cooler to preserve her until we could get her to the mortuary. We had her in an ice chest and when we arrived John met us in the front, took our dog's body and gave my husband back our cooler and said, "the ice is still good". I couldn't believe what I heard! I was mortified! I was in such a deep grief, I just wanted to get the process underway. I filled out the paperwork and requested the red heart urn (my dog was 7 lbs). John never once told me a 7 lb dog would not fit in such a small urn (which I found out later). He wrote up the order in which I found out he charges double what the urn goes for. At the end of the week, John called to tell me our Bella was ready to be picked up. I arrived and found the urn to be the silver one instead of the red one I ordered- thankful for his assistant Meghan as she was more apologetic and caring about the terrible mistake. John did not apologize, but quickly said he would have it fixed that same day. I had to drive back to Turlock from Manteca twice in one day for their mistake and lack of quality control. I paid over $300 for a small urn and cremation services. I called another mortuary local and asked about my dogs services just to see if the protocol was similar, they not only told me the same urn was $55 they also told me cremation was $105 and they informed me my dog would not fit in the heart. I was sick to my stomach as I had already gone through the services offered by this company. I should have received a second quote but in my deep grief I took the advice of my vet and chose this place. I will never return my business nor recommend them. I have also shared this info in my local community in hopes I save someone else from getting taken advantage of by a "business owner" who only cares about his bottom line and his other business = his local car sales lot! read more

I had taken him to the vet & they wanted me to have him put down there, on the hard counter top, without my husband or kids by his side. I declined. I found Family Pet Mortuary on Google. I called & asked about a home euthanasia & cremation, with return of his ashes. John P. set everything up for me. He contacted a vet that would come out to my home. They both came to my home on a Saturday. My beloved Jake, passed in my home on his dog bed, in front of the fireplace. My husband, kids & I all by his side until the end. It was everything I hoped it would be for my loyal, loving & unselfish companion. After Jake passed, John respectively placed Jakes body in a white cardboard coffin. No black trash bags! Second time in less than 6 months that I've attempted to take my deceased pets to them, with no success!! How they stay in business is beyond me! First time I called to find out if someone would be at the facility should I go there. Was told yes, arrived and never could get someone to come to the desk. Waited at least 20 minutes. Left and took my cat to my vet. Today, I called the facility , gave a live person on the phone my name and number, she asked me to hold and someone would be right with me. Once again, I edited 10 minutes and no one ever answered my call. Painful to have such a sham of a business who adds to an already painful day . read more

Our family dog of 11 years passed away unexpectedly. The only thing we wanted was a garden memorial stone with her paw prints pressed in. We paid over one hundred dollars to have it look a certain way and after waiting patiently for 2 weeks after her passing, we finally received the stone. To much of our disappointment, it looks tacky to say the least, and nothing like how it was described or what we paid for. We would've never paid this much for something they hardly put any effort into creating. I would never suggest this place to anyone. The owner, John, was absolutely horrible and made dealing with the sudden deaths of our beloved 2 chinchillas of 7 and 11 years so much harder. First off, the woman we spoke to on the phone was very pleasant and gave us a quote of about $70 each for a private cremation, which we were fine with paying. We went to the building, and my boyfriend was helped by a nice man (not the owner) and he said that he would only charge for one pet because they were very tiny and they'd only be a few tablespoons of ashes. We appreciated that immensely given the circumstances, and we were very grateful for this. When it was time to pick them up, we received a call (voicemail) from the owner, John, saying that they were ready to be picked up, sounding angry, but we paid no mind, despite finding it odd. But when my boyfriend called, he spoke to this man, and very angrily, was told that the guy who helped us "had screwed up everything", undercharged us, and also did not charge us for both pets. My boyfriend apologized, unsure how to react to all this, but they tell him that it was all done and they couldn't do anything more about it, but he just wanted him to know. Being yelled at on the phone for something not our fault? Are you serious?! How immature, unprofessional, and heartless! We did nothing wrong and agreed to everything! We were fine paying whatever we needed to even. We just wanted to get through all of this and this terrible owner had the gall to pull something like that. We were incredibly upset! Also, we were told we'd get a free name plaque when we had dropped them off, which we also were never given, but at this point, we just wanted to collect up our pet's ashes and never deal with them again. I really hope the other staff who helped us did not get in too much trouble. They had more heart than the actual owner. If we ever need a pet cremation in the future, we'll be making sure this place never sees our money. We've also shared this experience with friends and family to help them avoid additional heartache and complication. Certain vets bring their animals here, and we'll be checking to make sure they don't end up here again. read more

Our dog had passed on and, like most people, we felt as if we had lost a member of the family. He had passed in the evening and Rick was able to come pick him up, even though it was after hours. There was a respectable after hour fee but we were so grateful they were able to get him that night.
