Had a mid-week errand that took me downtown this morning, so I leveraged the location to drop into Family Thai on 11th, east of Lewis. TLDR: Amazingly good food, very nice people, decent prices. I arrived shortly after noon and was easily seated. Not a whole lot of customers at that time, so I'm not sure if it as an off day or what. Server brought a menu and a huge carafe of ice water, which was greatly appreciated, along with a cup of soup. I don't know what the soup was, and when I asked I was just told 'vegetable soup', but I'd eat a gallon of the stuff. It was like a cross between an egg drop soup and a miso soup, with tender pieces of what I would guess to be sliced bok choy. Whatever it is, I loved it and it was a great little lead in to the meal. Although I didn't know at the time, I was given the lunch menu, not the full menu. That explains what I thought was a really small selection of dishes. That said, I found something I wanted to try, and ordered up a couple of fried spring rolls and Pad See Ew, which is rice noodles, vegetables and broccoli and chicken, in this case. it is one of those Thai dishes that is sometimes a measurement against other places. For me, this and Pad Thai are the two benchmarks I usually lean on. The spring rolls hit the table in no time flat and I had to let them cool for a couple minutes. In literally just a few minutes more, the main dish arrived along with an assortment of sauces/relishes. The spring rolls were just fantastic. Not greasy, lightly crispy with a great balance inside between the meat and veg. The elements of the filling retained their texture and overall it was a great mouth feel, biting through the delicately crunchy outside and then getting the different crispy filling parts. Just a great spring roll all the way around. The Pad See Ew was easliy one of , if not the best I've had. The chicken was tender and not dry, the vegatables perfectly cooked to tender while still maintaining a little crunch. The noodles were well done, with traces of a char from the pan, bringing the smoky flavor dish needs. A rich sauce brought it all together. I added various condiments until I got it dialed in and it was indeed delicious. Only a sense of decorum prevented me from just licking the plate clean. I really appreciated the ice water on the table, and I found my self wondering why more places don't do that. I didn't mind keeping my glass full, especially with the heat I brought on, and just simplified the dining experience, in my book. The people were very friendly, with both ladies out front checking on me from time to time without being at all intrusive. The dining room is moderately sized and tastefully decorated, and by all accounts spotlessly clean. Absolutely no complaints there. When I finished I was a very full, happy camper and will definitely go back if I find myself in the area. Total damages ran to a shade over $17 and that's not bad at all.

Favorite Crab Fried Rice

My friends and I decided to try this for the first time. The service was quick and friendly. It's a cute little restaurant. A really good menu with a lot of Thai dishes. There were some specials as well and my friend tried one of those. I enjoyed my crab fried rice however it did not have a lot of crab in it, but the flavor was great and I enjoyed it. The mango sticky rice was also really good. A little expensive but good. My friends both loved their dishes and the portion sizes were very large. This is definitely a place if I'm in the area I would go back to.

I've heard amazing things about this place and husband's cousin absolutely raved about it. He lives in OKC and when he visits, he's known to go twice in just a weekend. He recommended the curry so I had the red curry with seafood. Like some reviews have mentioned, the consistency is not thick and creamy. That didn't bother me at all though, because the FLAVOR was out of this world. Definitely my favorite dish, especially since you're able to choose the spice level. My husband had the Pad Thai combination plate and he loved it. We shared the coconut sticky rice for dessert - so sweet and delicious! The service was extremely accommodating for a large group on a busy day. The staff is super nice, polite, and helpful. Like others have shared, it's not much to look at on the outside, but the inside is clean, bright, and representative of the culture. Definitely a must-try!

Family Thai Restaurant opened to business at the end of January 2024. The restaurant has opened for exactly 10 days before the review was written. The name speaks for itself. This is a family owned and operated Thai restaurant. Due to the grand opening, it's starting to pick up steam. Simple decorations and arrangements, but look more elegant than one would think. When I dined in, there were 3 workers operating the restaurant. Obviously, they were very efficient. One positive feature was water being served in a glass jug. Initially, I was bummed out when the hot tea came out in a cup and no tea pot but the unlimited refills made everything okay again. Food was what made the restaurant not getting a 5 stars. The sweet house entree was good and better than the curry. I loved the amount of vegetables in the stir fry dish, especially the tomatoes and pineapples. The sweet sauce helped elevate the dish. Although the curry tasted okay, the curry base is on the thin side. I prefer my Thai curry to have a rich, creamy coconut base, not some diluted coconut juice. It's like when I order Alfredo, I expect a creamy Alfredo sauce. Well, I expect the same when ordering Thai curry. I would stick to the safe Thai options on your first try like pad Thai and fried rice. I did like their sweet house entree so if you would like to venture out, then I would recommend trying it.

Golden Crispy Spring Rolls

Came on a Friday afternoon for a solo lunch. Was greeted as soon as I walked in and quickly seated. I ordered their Golden Crispy Spring Rolls and the Pad Thai with pork. After a few minutes, the server brought out a small steaming hot bowl of Hot & Sour soup. The soup was slightly thicker than most Hot & Sour soups I've had in the past, but the flavor was wonderful. The rest of the order arrived about 10 minutes later. I have to say the Spring Rolls were amazing...........probably the best I've had in town......well, at least that I can remember. I ordered the Pad Thai with spice at a level 4 out of 5, and was surprised that it really wasn't spicy at all so I had to add chili sauce and jalapeño to kick it up a bit. Overall this was a great lunch and I will definitely be back. If you're in the area and looking for great Thai, this is the place.

What a gem! Tried Family Thai for the first time today, and we'll definitely be back! A very tranquil environment with lovely decor, and the service was just wonderful. Our waitress was very friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Food came out promptly and was delicious! The massaman curry had deep flavors and was topped generously with peanuts and had a heaping portion of chicken. The Thai BBQ was medium hot and it was just right. The chicken satay was so flavorful! The peanut sauce served cold, was amazing. The only disappointment was the molton cake which was slightly bitter. I'd rate it 2.5/5, but that's jist my personal opinion, someone else might like it much better. Everything else was 5/5! FYI, the curry was on the thin/soupy side, but that didn't bother us Our total was $48 dollars, so fairly average pricing for a sit down restaurant. We can't wait to get more items!

The exceptionally good service starts with a little bowl of amazing egg drop soup. Warm and flavorful. Larb for me. Never tried it. The description on the menu: Grilled beef with fresh squeezed lime, cilantro, red onion and roasted rice powder, on a bed of cabbage garnished with cucumber slices. Lime juice, onion, cilantro and beef; that is a familiar list of ingredients. Hell, add a tortilla and this is Mexican street tacos. What could be wrong with that. I'm up for a try! Failure to disclose.... When the meal came out, I instantly realized the restaurant had not provided a full disclosure of the ingredients. I may have made a big mistake. A very faint, but pungent stench, similar to that of a lake side bait shop on a hot summer day in Oklahoma, hit my hypersensitive nose. Fish Sauce! A drug sniffing Malinois could not have picked up on that aroma any faster than I did. Waitress, please bring the chili sauce and jalapenos. I piled them on. The cilantro, red onion, and cucumber did their assigned job; seek and mask the odorous fish sauce. They all worked together, to deliver a surprisingly tasty salad. Lots of beef in it. Good quality lean beef. Didn't see anything that I would call roasted rice powder though. (What is roasted rice powder?). The fresh lime juice? Yeah well.......... it was probably just fish sauce. The food came to the table a little out of order. My salad first, then the appetizer and finally my wife's curry. I ordered the Family Sampler: two fried spring rolls, two spring rolls with grilled chicken, and two golden bags. All of these items, like the meals were very fresh. I especially liked the fried spring rolls. These were made in the restaurant. Not like those nasty, frozen, factory-made egg rolls that many Asian restaurants use. The little golden bags were unusual. I would describe them as a version of a Crab Rangoon. They are good, a little sweet. The creamy spicey dipping sauce was good on everything. Be careful, the other little cup that comes with the Family Sampler is fish sauce. My wife had the Green Curry: green curry paste, eggplant, bell pepper and Thai basil with tofu. She liked it. Too sweet for me. She also had a Thai iced coffee that she really enjoyed. A very sweet drink with a delicious strong coffee flavor. A surprise when you walk in. This is a very nicely decorated, clean little restaurant located in a well-worn business strip on 11th. The interior is not what you would expect. The fabulous service from the attentive staff supports the restaurant's effort to convey an upscale ambiance. Good food and service. If you like Thai.....Give it a try!

Thai tea with cream, tiger cry beef and Panang curry with combo meat.

Walked in to the resturant. I just happened to be up by it. It was recommended to me, so I decided to give it a go. Very nice waitress and clean space. A lot of people were coming in to get to go orders. I ordered the thai tea with cream, tiger cry beef, and Panang combination of meats (spice level of medium). When asked about spice level she said medium, hot or thai hot. So I picked the lowest. Wasnt unbearable but my nose was running. Pleasant discovery was that the thai tea helped with the spicy burn. Obviously it should since dairy helps. Tiger cry appetizer was VERY good. I highly recommend it. Only reason for a 4 star versus 5 was because of parking. Small lot and it fills up quick.

Potstickers

This location is in a shared plaza with limited parking. It isn't much to look at on the outside but the inside is cute especially if you like elephants as they are a big part of the decor. We enjoyed the potstickers, they were crunchy and good and the sweet chili enhanced the flavor. I really liked my Panang curry, I got it medium spiced and it was very flavorful. My husband also really enjoyed his pad thai. The prices are reasonable and we will definitely come back and explore some other items on the menu. The service is quick and efficient.

So wonderful. The server was so kind and a great server. Everything I ate was seriously perfect. The whole place was wonderful. I would definitely recommend going there.

Pad Thai w/Fried Tofu‍

Holy Moley! Flabbergasted! I've not had Thai this good since I was in Toronto and San Francisco. I had the Pad Thai with fried tofu and my wife had the Yellow Curry with Fried Todu. The Pad Thai is so tasty and hot. The flavors meld together perfectly and the medium spice level is perfect for summer meals. I'll definitely try the spicier levels in the fall and winter. The Yellow Curry with fried tofu is incredibly tasty as well. Hot and fresh even after picking up and taking home. The interior of the restaurant is very tastefully done and the servers are so friendly as soon as you walk through the door. Can't wait to dine in when we're not in the middle of moving residences. Will definitely be a regular customer.

The ambience is so great: clean, colorful, comfortable, like you're visiting someone's home for a lovely meal. The service was so detail oriented: quick and attentive, super detailed- they offered us iced water or water with no ice, extremely polite and welcoming from the moment we walked in, offered support in ordering, and made sure we were enjoying our visit. The FOOD was exactly what I needed: the chicken garlic pepper house entree was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were all cooked to a perfect bite, the sauce was not too overpowering but complimented the flavors of each ingredient, the rice was so perfectly cooked and fluffy, the chicken was cut thin and in the perfect bite size pieces. The angel hair Thai noodle dish was so flavorful, the perfect amount of each vegetable and meat to the noodles, so delicious and the perfect serving size. The egg drop soup was not your ordinary egg drop soup, so much flavorful and bits of diced carrot and pea, with the green onions and cilantro floating around. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was lovely, and we can't wait to come back and try more dishes!

There's plenty of parking in back. Their menu was a little confusing. Beside the dishes that are commonly served with rice such as curry, there was a hand written notation of the price of rice. We thought this meant that rice didn't come with the dish and you had to pay extra for it. We ordered a noodle dish so we wouldn't have to pay extra. The owner contacted me and explained that the curries came with rice. The notations of cost of rice was in case someone wanted to order extra rice. Now that we know rice comes with entrees such as curries, we will go back and try some of their other dishes such as Korean. I would recommend adding adding "extra rice" to the notation to avoid confusion. The Pad Thai was okay. It wasn't the best Pad Thai I've had, but it wasn't the worst, either. It was $11.99 and did not come with anything else such as soup, salad, or egg roll. The portion was fairly small. The noodles were a little more done than we like. I imagine if one were to order the noodles al dente, that they would accomodate. I would offer 2 suggestions. First just add the word "extra" to the notations about the cost of rice to let people know the price is only in case someone wants to order an extra serving of rice. Also, there was a hand written note on the door stating that restrooms are only for customers. I don't know if that was done because they've had a problem with non-customers using their restaurant or just preventative measures, but we found that off putting. My husband commented, "cranky owners," when he saw it. If they feel they must have such a notice on their door, perhaps they could make it smaller and more professional. It was hand written on a sheet of typing paper and taped to the door crooked. I look forward to trying one of their other dishes.

The restaurant is the only Vietnamese restaurant that offers a bar serving alcohol. The Vietnamese pho at Kai was delicious. The broth was savory and aromatic. The pho vegetables plate was bountiful. My favorite aspect of the soup was the pho noodles, just soft enough to maintain that springy texture that's so difficult to achieve. The fresh spring rolls were also excellent. Kai does not shy from giving customers jumbo size spring rolls. I also love the hot tea served at this restaurant which uses dried tea leaves. If there's a criticism with Kai, it would be the lack of variety of meats in their combination pho which only had 3 different meats, far fewer than what's standard for this dish.
