I started shopping at FamousFootwear in Chico in about 2007. Love the selection, love that its quiet....the manager is a bit creepy, though, she doesn't smile or try to have conversation. Had a friend who worked for her once and he says she is very odd.... I now shop on FamousFootwear.com and buy all my shoes online. After you spend a certain dollar amount (with the Rewards Program), you not only get regular gift certificates ($5, $10, $15 OFF) but also free shipping (with $200 a year in purchases). The people who served me were pleasant enough. When I bought my Ryka shoes 2 weeks ago, I asked the salesperson if I could return them if necessary. She said I had 30 days. 2 weeks later the shoes started fraying at the lace holes. When I tried to return them they said I couldn't because they were not in good enough shape to resell. They were starting to tear! That's why I wanted to return them. So, make sure you don't plan on returning your shoes if you purchase them here. Customer service last Thursday was laughably bad. No eye contact, no acknowledgement of existence whatsoever. Blonde lady didn't even look at us until she asked if we wanted a bag after the checkout was done. Weirdly threw the shoes back into the box after removing the security tag. We just had to laugh it off after walking out of the store. Shoe selection right now for women is meh unless you like athletic shoes, crocs, or suede boots with a chunky heel. read more

The store manager Robin and the associates working at this Famous Footwear in Chico are always very friendly and know how to deliver great customer service. I read some of the previous reviews left here about how they are comparing famous footwear to other stores and how they don't have a bathroom, etc... Really people?! This store always has a great selection of shoes and accessories to choose from. I'm always amazed! Oh, and Best Buy is literally right next to famous footwear so if you really need to use the restroom don't be lazy and just walk over people, no need to bash this store for not having one. They have a huge selection online as well and are always willing to order shoes for you. So if you don't see certain shoes or accessories you like in the store, they will help you out. A lot of stores do the same thing, so no need to complain about this one. I really like how they have a wide selection in bigger sizes as well since they can be hard to find locally. I recommend signing up to their reward programs as it comes in clutch and they always have greats deals like the "BUY ONE, GET ONE". This is my first time ever writing a review on Yelp. The only reason I got yelp was to write a review about one of the store associates, Melinda. Yes, they have killer deals on shoes but Melinda is always welcoming anytime someone walks through the doors. She has the biggest smile and makes you feel welcome in the store. She will go out of her way to make sure you get what you're looking for. Nowadays in society, people don't seem happy at their jobs and everyone in any type of retail seem very... robotic. Melinda is great at what she does. She makes me believe there are more people out there that actually enjoy their jobs. If I had a company, I would want her to be the face of it. She's extremely outgoing and changes my mood every time I walk into the store. I wish more companies had people like Melinda. Society would be a better place and more upbeat. I really hope management or people who own the company see what an asset she is to the company. Melinda, if you see this don't ever change. Thank you for always making my experience buying shoes a little better each time. You're awesome. I bought 3 pairs of shoes here the other day. Joseph helped me and he was great. Super nice and helpful. The place we pretty busy. There were about 4 other groups of people shopping and he was attentive to everyone! Also I was surprised that they had some better brands of shoes. I didn't think I was gonna be able to buy anything here since I have nerve pain in my feet and can only wear orthopedic shoes, but they have some great brands! I went back a few days later to return one pair and the lady (I think her name was Betsy) was super nice as well. We chit chatted and she also had quite a few customers in the store that she was helping as well. All in all- I'm really glad I gave it another chance! read more

I shop at this store frequently for my family. Bought a pair of berkinstocks but decided they felt like concrete bricks so I went to return them the following day. With the receipt, card I bought it with, id etc. well, because they don't have enough cash in their drawer to refund me, I'm stuck. They can't even tell me when I can get a refund bc it's up to how much money they have in their till. Do yourself a favor and don't use debit here. Only credit. That's the only way they will refund it back on your card. read more

They have little to no inventory in the store! Most require to be ordered online only!! If there is a shoe you really want, prepare to have a backup and be disappointed because most likely there won't be any in store lol!!! ‍‍ There is no bathroom, prepare to be told to head to best buy to use their bathroom only! Go to the footlocker at the mall, it is better, there's bathroom everywhere for convenience. Forgot to mention, the employees are not friendly, there's only 2 people working. Does not say hello, takes forever to come help you if need help. You will need to hunt them down if you need help checking inventory! Hate this store! Good spot to get some cheap shoes. They have some name brands but usually aren't very up to date with the styles that are going on and tend to have the cheaper variety of the name brands. Nice size store and good placement near best buy, starbucks and all those places. read more

I think this is a big lots for shoe stores....Criminal. I bought a pair of wide fitting asics here about 2 months ago (jan 2018). I don't need wide shoes (I have long skinny feet) but I figured I'd try them on. My mom has to buy wide shoes for her Goliath feet, and upon inspection they didn't look as wide as "wide shoes" normally look. They appeared to fit and offered comfortable foot support. The low prices enticed me to deviate from REI or the local Dicks Sporting Good's. Big mistake. I'm traveling though Europe soon and need shoes that can handle a lot of walking. I walked in the asics for about 2 or 3 weeks before developing severely sensitive and painful ankles. I had to ice my feet and ankles for two weeks and keep them elevated to avoid pain. The shoes I paid $70 for were total garbage. I won't be back to this place. I don't like to throw my hard earned dollars away on biglots crap. To anyone thinking of checking this place out: Go to Dick's Sporting Good's at the mall. The prices may be $20 more but you won't end up spending as much $ in the long run. I recently moved here from the bay and am so relieved to know there is a quality sporting goods store in town. I hadn't been to Dick's before this week. Spent about $300 there the other day for travel and hiking gear on quality brands and have zero buyer remorse. To the owner of Famous Footwear owner: Your store sucks and there's better options nearby. I hope you close like Aaron Brothers just did adjacent to your building. My friend and I went in yesterday to get new summer shoes. After looking around my friend choose two pairs. We were at the register waiting as there was a customer ahead of us with several pairs. The employee ringing up the first customer (Later learned her name is Pam) said to a girl standing at the register (later to find out she was the manager, Alyssa) could you help these women?" to which she indicated she could not as she was not signed on the other register. Then Alyssa, trying to look very busy, picked up a small electronic device and moved over to a stand if shoes to have a conversation with which was apparent to be a friend. Alyssa was extremely cold, unfriendly and rude and did not even acknowledge our presence. Pam apologized for the wait and we reassured her that this was not her fault and expressed our sympathy that she had such a rude boss. So unfortunate as they have such nice shoes and the shopping experience could have been a good one and was not. Will seek other options before considering returning. read more

Very bad experience shopping. Bought some slippers and paid cash. Was told I had 30 days to return the purchase and all that was asked of me was not to wear the shoe outdoors. The slippers were causing me toe discomfort so I brought them back in less than one week. I had my receipt with me. Was told I could not return the item without first giving them my Driver's License so they could scan my personal info into their system. Was told they do this to prevent fraud and keep track of your returns (sounds like surveillance to me--big brother keeping track of you). However, the woman who checked me out remembered me so it was obvious that my purchase was not fraudulent. I refused to give my ID so they could access my personal information--which is none of their business. I was unable to return the item. This was the worse customer service ever! The experience was very disturbing. Don't expect a no hassle return here! Having access to your private information is more important to this Company than customer satisfaction. If you value the safety and privacy of your personal information, and don't feel others should have the right to access it indiscriminately, don't shop at this store. read more
