We were looking for something quick and satisfying, and this unassuming food truck popped up. We ordered two gyros-one chicken, one lamb-and both came fresh off the spit, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and loaded with toppings. They don't skimp on the sauces either - our gyros were slathered with plenty of white sauce and a spicy red sauce. The owner was friendly, and service was fast-we lucked out since there was no line when we arrived. At just $8 a gyro, there's no better value for something this tasty and filling. All the reviews were right! The guy here is the sweetest and the food is amazing! I got the chicken gyro and there's nothing I would change about it. I only wish he put a bit more of the sauces but now I know for next time :) Highly recommend, especially if you're a tourist craving a quick bite! EDIT: Went back here and requested extra of the spicy sauce and it KILLED us. The guy helping us was different from the one before so I'm not sure if the sauce is different this time around. I like that you can see a bunch of spices in the back like cumin and turmeric, which are also prevalent in the food. A very hearty meal for a great price. Combo over Rice: Pretty standard street meat. The chicken was dark meat and ever so tender, with lots of nice spices. The gyro was shaved from that big hunk of gyro meat everyone seems to sell. The gyro meat was warmed, but not crisped like some places. Lots of fluffy yellow rice. Some pretty sorry looking salad though, but who buys this for the salad? Such a nice hardworking gentleman Mr Essam who operates here. Really generous portions, SUPER fresh and clean tasting. Got the mixed rice plate and there was so much meat!! We all loved our platters and thought there was no end to the taste as even the rice had flavor from a curry powder and the added sauce. Less than 10 bucks for a hefty and tasty meal! A quick lunch, dinner, or post going out place to grab food bc they're basically always open! I do like halal guys better flavor wise, but they're different and you should try both. The lamb gyro is really tasty and they pack it in with food. Anything over rice is a lot of food as well, but beware of the spicy rice and the red sauce. They are SPICY. Overall, a tasty, quick meal on the cheap that we regularly get, but not a full 5 star bc I do think halal guys flavor is a bit better and bc the consistency has been off a couple times. Hands down the best Halal Cart in Hell's Kitchen and possibly Manhattan. Now, most people aren't going out of their way to find a Halal cart, but this one is worth the few extra steps. I've tried the Halal Cart outside Starbucks (43rd & 9th) and the other one outside Hotel Yotel (42nd & 10th) when I've had major cravings and Ramadan kept my main man away. Although I don't waste food, I thought about it... neither of those trucks compared to Famous Halal! As my neighborhood truck, I do give them some extra love, but it also means, I'm hitting this truck up not just on drunken nights, but any night. Late night in the office & too lazy too cook? Simply I was thoroughly satisfied each time with the quality of food, generous portion and great service. The Famous Halal truck is open until 4am across the BP gas station on the corner of 45th St at 10th Ave (the Pony Bar). It was a huge, delicious meal for $7 dollars. Plenty of gluten free options. I had the lamb and falafel with rice. It was great. My friend had the fish and said it wasn't very good. It looked like grilled salmon in the picture, but the fish was actually battered and fried Talapia. Everything else was good enough to make up for it though. The fries are really good too, and the $5 large fry is enough for several people to share. Famous Halal is a decent halal cart. Prices for the rice options are comparable to other competitors at $6 a box. There's a good variety of choices other than the staples. Came out of the Pony Express and not only did this guy make an amazing lamb gyro but he even went further. Some drunk guy came up and start cursing the cook out, telling him that a previous meal he made for free sucked; he was obviously trying to get a free meal again. The guy in the truck not only kept his cool but let this guy talk shit and at the same time kept this drunk guy away from us.
