    Lamb and chicken over rice

Food is a getting better and better. The lamb over rice is very good today though it tastes better when it's sliced thicker. The rice is also very good today.

Great food for a quick lunch. The gentleman working was so nice. I'll definitely be coming back.

A food truck that seems permanently parked on the corner, taking orders at all hours. I like that you can see a bunch of spices in the back like cumin and turmeric, which are also prevalent in the food. A very hearty meal for a great price. Combo over Rice: Pretty standard street meat. The chicken was dark meat and ever so tender, with lots of nice spices. The gyro was shaved from that big hunk of gyro meat everyone seems to sell. The gyro meat was warmed, but not crisped like some places. Lots of fluffy yellow rice. Some pretty sorry looking salad though, but who buys this for the salad? And lots of that creamy white sauce along with just enough hot sauce to spice it up.

Such a nice hardworking gentleman Mr Essam who operates here. Really generous portions, SUPER fresh and clean tasting. Got the mixed rice plate and there was so much meat!! He had to push the lid down to close it. Chicken is amazingly tender. Veggies are fresh and crisp. Fries are a nice addition! Prices are great, service is fast, and did I say the gentleman is so very nice?? I have been to 10+ different halal trucks/carts in manhattan and this one tops them all. Will always come back here! Open late until 3am. Will have to take a better pic next time I dug in way too early before remembering to take a pic lol.

**Cash only Prices have inflated a bit since the images which makes sense but I was totally expecting to walk here and pay for a cheap platter. Paid a bit more but was still very happy with the taste and value. Cheap platters as rice bowls that are fairly filling being a few minutes away from many apartments, Famous Halal is a great stop for a meal anytime of day, even late night before 3 AM for whatever reason, whether that's studying, drinking, or waking early. I had the Lamb over Rice platter while my friends had a meat combo (lamb and chicken) and chicken. We all loved our platters and thought there was no end to the taste as even the rice had flavor from a curry powder and the added sauce. Each platter comes with flavorful long grain rice, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and your choice of protein. Then they also ask if you'd like white sauce and hot sauce. While I highly recommend the white sauce, I think the platter is flavorful enough without it.

Ordered the combo mix platter for $9 - Ordering was very seamless, and it took less than 3 minutes for my order to come out. Platter comes with meat, rice, salad, pita bread, and (optional) white and red sauce, which were great additions to the meal. The platter came in a takeout bag with a fork and napkins. For a quick and filling meal in Hell's Kitchen, this place is worth your while.

Less than 10 bucks for a hefty and tasty meal! A quick lunch, dinner, or post going out place to grab food bc they're basically always open! I do like halal guys better flavor wise, but they're different and you should try both. The lamb gyro is really tasty and they pack it in with food. Anything over rice is a lot of food as well, but beware of the spicy rice and the red sauce. They are SPICY. Overall, a tasty, quick meal on the cheap that we regularly get, but not a full 5 star bc I do think halal guys flavor is a bit better and bc the consistency has been off a couple times. Suggest trying them out though and getting to know the workers.

We ordered the lamb over rice and half the lamb was onion. Not enough white sauce and small portion for $9-overpriced for a food truck!

Excellent food for an amazing price! Owner was very nice and provided great and quick service! The wait was not very long, nothing like the ambiance of a busy street filled with the smell of delicious food.

Even after two days, it holds up in taste.

The platter comes with perfectly seasoned chicken over rice, along with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I got the famous white sauce and hot sauce on the side so I could add as much as I wanted, and both took the dish to the next level. The chicken was flavorful, tender, and paired perfectly with the rice. The portion was generous and incredibly filling, making it an excellent value. Everything tasted fresh, and I honestly enjoyed every bite. That said, it was so good I could probably eat two platters! The line was long, but don't let that discourage you it moved steadily and was absolutely worth the wait. Whether you're a local or just visiting NYC, this is one of those iconic spots you have to experience at least once. it!

I don't go as much as I use to, as the price has more than doubled since 2017/18. However, that has nothing to do with my rating. My problem is that meats have gone downhill. I used to love gyro meat - never sure what it was exactly lamb or beef - but now it is just gross and greasy. The chicken which used to be excellent is now very dry. The white sauce is great and the rice is fine, but that is it. Not worth getting anymore. Maybe one of their competitors is better, can't really be worse.

They open at 7:30; we were there just before 7pm, but a line started forming behind us after 10 mins or so. It was hot and L was drunk.. it seemed like an eternity. I heard them cooking and the smell was waffling outside but the truck was still not open at 7:30.. when they did finally open... we ordered the 2 meat combo platter and a beef chapli platter ...they still catered to some customers on the side before the people on the line. We tried a lil of the beef chapli a hr later. Salad was flavorful. Meat was nicely seasoned. Rice was soft and fluffy. I loved everything but didn't care for the fries. We got the white, green and hot sauce. The 2 meat combo was very tasty...even though we ate it 2 days later. I'd say this tasted much better than the other popular spots in the city. Will definitely come back in a few days to try their falafel too.

Half the spots nearby had already shut down or had lines I wasn't about to stand in, and this truck was right there, lit up and moving fast. Got the two-meat combo over rice. The guys inside don't waste time. I had my plate in a few minutes even with a couple people ahead of me. Chicken and beef both came out hot, and the rice underneath was fresh and fluffy. Ask for the extra spicy red if you want to suffer a little. Portions are big for the price. I walked away full and happy. Fries are the one thing I'd skip (they go soft quick), but with the meat and sauces all over the plate I didn't care. If you're out late and everything else is closed, this is the move. They open at 7:30 and stay open well into the night, which is exactly when you want them. I'll be back the next time I'm wandering around starving after midnight.

But I'm very glad I got this now so I don't have to care about how long that potential line would be. It was around 20-25 minutes before we ordered and got our food. I had the mix platter - which consists of lamb and chicken over yellow rice with pita and lettuce. To that I added fries, white sauce, and hot sauce. Although the hot sauce was weirdly just missing. I guess they forgot it. I just have to mention the portion first. This is a gigantic amount of food. Anyone who can finish all of this in one sitting has either just had a bacchanalian night of drinking or has appetite of a mammoth. I respect them either way. But I got two-thirds through this before tapping out. Sometimes with huge portions you see the volume being disproportionally overstuffed by copious amounts of rice, but here they had equal portions of lamb and chicken as well. It's truly an equitable extravagance. Outside the portion, I really liked the taste as well. The fries were a fantastic addition I would recommend to everyone coming here - as they mixed in with the rice to add that extra textural crunch (they actually stayed crispy basically the whole time). The lamb was quite fatty and very juicy. The chicken was mostly standard, but decent still. I liked the way the pita gave you a different way to eat rather than just with a spoon - so you could mix up the eating mechanisms. The first thing you need to do is mix everything together; that's how you get the white sauce to coat everything. And this white sauce is really good. I really wish they hadn't forgotten the hot sauce as it would've added the necessary spiciness to how rich and garlicky the white sauce was. For just 13 dollars ($3 addon for the fries) this is an incredible deal. Probably some of the best value you can find in Midtown. Overall, this place that justifies a lot of the hype. I will say I wouldn't wait more than 30 minutes in line for this, but if it's less than that - I'll be jumping at the chance. 9.25/10

It clearly worked: they've since grown to nine locations around Manhattan, and this Times Square outpost took over a corner of the old New York Times building back in 2017.
