My second time at urban hawker market and I wanted to try something new. Firstly, the staff at Mystic Masaala were incredibly warm and friendly. The prices are reasonable and the I honestly think the chicken saag looked better irl than in the photos (maybe it's worth updating?). The taste overall was ok - the saag itself was a little bland but the fresh onions and herbs on top helped. Portion sizes are pretty good. Worth trying if you are really craving Indian food and are dining at the market with friends. I personally would go for one of the other stores. read more

We split the tikka masala and butter chicken, and both dishes were flavorful and satisfying. The only downside was the naan, unfortunately it wasn't very good. On a cold day, I really wanted some good Indian, with some spice to keep me warm. Wish I wanted something else. The Chicken Biryani was by far the worst I've ever had. Not to mention dangerous. Tiny, sharp bones throughout the whole dish. Whoever had the idea was to smash up bland chicken and mix it into the rice, should be fired. First time at the Urbanspace location, Mysttik Masaala was one of the food options inside this food court. Ordered the chicken masala and the saag paneer. Both dishes came with so much rich, we could not even finish the rice. The chicken was very dry and no the flavor I was hoping for in a tikka masala dish. The saag paneer was very watery. The food is pretty poor. The stall is located in an urban hawker food mart and whilst the service was quick, the food leaves much to be desired. I ordered the spicy chicken vindaloo. Their 'spice' is a chili sauce that's on top of the chicken vindaloo. As such the flavors don't meld very well. The amoubt of cloves and tumeric causes the resulting taste to be astringent. Their rice is alright, but could use a stronger flavor. The Naan is weird. While normal Naan is thin and has a nice crisp but soft in the inside the Naan here is bready and thick. The five stars is just for the bhel puri, which was surprisingly good for being in Midtown (sorry to be snobby, but I'm from Queens). My friends and I were in the mood for a chaat and were talking about a fuska place half of us had tried and loved, and when we saw they had bhel puri, it really was in the same arena of the food we were craving. My second visit to the food hall. Returned b/c I was delightfully surprised at my liking the various options of cuisines all in one spot. I had scoped out this stall on my first visit and found it to be peculiar to see a poster of a samosa served IN a bun. I literally took a pic of said poster just to ask a friend (who is FROM India) to get her take on this new discovery of mine. She replied saying this is a very common form of fast food where she comes from. With my dear friend's approval on its legitimacy, I ventured into this new to me culinary discovery. The Samosa Pav. Sizable. Carried weight. Loved the texture of their bun. Not the greatest presentation, for they crush the samosa inside the bun (but, I guess it would be the only civilized way of consuming this... it just looked so much nicer in the pic!). I liked the combination of onion bits and cilantro sprinkled all over the sammich. I dunno if one could get choice of chutney, but I feel it would have went better with the green one. They applied the tamarind one... and, I feel we needed a healthier amount of it. A bit dry, but, tasted pretty good. Value... I feel it's a bit much to charge $14.14 for a samosa in a bun. read more

Potentially the WORST Indian food I've ever had. Palak Paneer portion was puny. It was all rice. Too spicy and no sauce. It wasnt' creamy. It should have been given another name because what I received wasn't standard. I wanted to demand my money back after 1 bite. Price was ridiculous for what I got. This was a miss for me. Stopped in for a quick dinner on a Thursday night. The first sign something was off was that when I tried to order a bowl, the lady at the counter said they were completely out of rice, and it would be 30 minutes until they had any. I asked if I could do a bowl with naan instead of rice, and she accommodated that, which was great. Unfortunately it went downhill quickly from there. The chicken tikka masala, although nicely flavored and mildly spiced, was extremely salty. Like, borderline inedible because of the insane salt content. I've had lots of Indian food and nothing ever remotely close to this. The saag was also way over salted, though not quite as badly as the chicken. And the naan, although plentiful (the lady gave me two large pieces, I think to make up for the lack of rice), had an unpleasant taste, and the texture was dry and gritty. Ultimately, after a few bites of each item, about 80% of my food went into the compost bin (where a friendly food court worker helped me sort things). Based on this experience I would not return. read more

This location of Mysttik Masaala is a kiosk in the 52nd St UrbanSpace, next to a sushi place. The food was a remarkably far cry from the meals I enjoyed from the cart on 47th and Park (gasp, that was six years ago) and is more expensive, probably due to the location. I ordered a split bowl of chicken saag and chana masala and a side naan. The saag and chana came over yellow rice with onions and coriander sprinkled over the top. The chicken and saag are not cooked together. They have modestly spiced white chicken to one side and cover it with whatever sauce/curry flavor you ordered. The chicken was dry and its flavor was not infused with the saag/spinach curry. The chana was slightly undercooked (note that undercooked chickpeas can do a number to your guts). Both the chana and saag were a mild to medium spice. The naan was also dry, undersalted, without ghee, and just not a joy to eat. After tax, I over paid $24 for a meal I didn't enjoy. I understand not wanting to prepare too much food, but mixing Indian dishes together after they're cooked doesn't work the way a burrito bowl concept does. Staff was okay. It took the staff a minute to acknowledge that I wanted to order. She put stuff together rather robotically and didn't engage in conversation. UrbanSpace as a location is fun for the first couple times you go. This location has some space outside on the 6 1/2 Ave walkway and in a mezzanine above the kiosks. (read: stairs.) Please bus your own tables. Cute for casual, fast meet up or a snack. I used to be such a big fan and I feel like the magic is gone. Maybe I'll try another location. read more

Sorry, I hate to knock a small business, but WOW. I ate here today (at urban hawker.) My food looked absolutely nothing like the picture. I was immediately disappointed. Ordered a tikka masala wrap (or something like that.) The picture looked almost like a Gyro.... it had meat plus some sort of salad and some white sauce. Looked good. What I received was a messy pile of saucy meat on a pita type bread. I could not figure out why I wasnt appetized by it, but eventually kept looking at the picture and realized I had no salad or yogurt sauce on mine. I did go ask her for some yogurt sauce and she gave it to me. That helped somewhat, but overall, it just wasn't appetizing. I ate a few bites and then just wound up throwing away like 70% of it. Didn't even want to pack it to go. Waste of $17. I wish them luck but they need to make some improvements. Maybe study up on their culinary skills and food presentation. read more

There wasn't enough salt or spices in the sauce, and it only tasted of onions. The portion is large and filling, so that's a plus. But I won't be ordering from here again :( read more

I ordered a vindaloo chicken and was stunned when I opened it that it was just chicken curry with half a cup of sriracha sauce poured over it... I've never seen this anywhere else. I was really hungry when I went to Urbanspace. It was around lunch time and there was a enormous crowd of people in the food court. Almost every stall had at least tens of people people lined up to order. It was very difficult to find a empty table. I decided to try Mysttik Masaala since it had a short line and I was in the mood for Indian food. The cashier was nice and friendly and worked really fast. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it came with rice, some type of salad vegetable thing with a sprinkle of cilantro. The chicken was tender and the rice and salad was okay. Everything was okay other than the meal's star of the show was bland! The actual chicken tikka masala sauce was tasteless. Where were the spices?! I mixed the sauce with the rice and the chicken and rice was still flavorless. This sauce having no flavor, ruined everything in this dish and eating it became difficult. This was my first time trying Mysttik Masaala, so I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day or if their other dishes are better. However, be warned. Do not order the Chicken Tikka Masala. read more

This is a really cool food hall and the woman at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful but the food leaves a LOT to be desired. If you're familiar with authentic Indian food especially from Queens you'll be so disappointed by these recipes made to appeal to "every" palette. Very little and simple seasoning to the point where the tamarind chutney is miserably watered down. The mint chutney was surprisingly spicy and the most flavorful thing. The naan was no longer warm at 4pm-ish and the chicken tikka tasted like it had red food dye more than anything. I would not eat here ever again - at any location - because the total was about $60 for extremely underwhelming samosa chaat, chicken tikka roll up, and a palak bowl (and a bottle of water) after a long day of walking through NYC and wanting a satisfying meal! read more

Be careful! I felt so sick after drinking their Mango Lassi today. I started to drink it and could not believe how bad it tasted. This review is long overdue. Best indian food ever if you are craving home cooked mother like meal. My office is a block away so naturally I acome here pretty often 2-3 times a week if not more I usually get the vegetarian plate and its superrr delicious. All the vegetarian options are always on point, and my super fav is daal. All of my coworkers are hooked. About 5-6 of my coworkers come here for good food as well. I am still so disappointed that I spent money eating here! My friend and I were craving Indian food and saw the great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. I have never had blander food in my entire life. I ordered a naan on the side and they initially forgot to include it in my order. I almost wish I hadn't gone back for it because the naan crumbled apart immediately and tasted like cardboard.
