I'm very happy I stumbled upon the Lil Zeus Lunch Box. The food truck I was hoping to visit was not there today and this worked out well because otherwise I probably wouldn't have tried this Greek food truck. I ordered a chicken souvlaki platter which came with rice, Greek salad, and a very nice portion of char grilled chicken chunks. The portion was large enough for two people to share and if you wanted to be extra safe, you could add on an extra stick of chicken. I've tried Lil Zeus a few times and it's been consistently good! Been going to Lil Zeus for the past 5 years and just noticed that it's on Yelp.  I've had everything from the sticks of meat to the platters and there are a few things that keep me coming back. 1st, the chicken and pork are grilled and most times have a nice char...the pork will sometimes be caramelized on the outside from the juices...just delicious.  The lamb is the molded, pressed type and tastes great alone or in a pita sandwich.  Every now and again I'll order a trifecta of just the meats. 2nd, they do the little things, like seasoning the rice...it's very tasty and can be addicting!  Also, their pitas are soft, delicious and can be just as addicting. 3rd, they care about their customers and always ensure the final product is exactly what you ordered.  A few years ago, an order was off a bit, but not worth returning to get it fixed.  When I returned later that week they brought it up to me and wanted to rectify it. 4th, these guys are hard working, good people and keep their truck clean. I've never gotten sick from their food. Today, I got a pork platter with white sauce on the salad. Always solid lunches and a great example of when a foodtruck is better than a lot of eating establishments around the area! read more

Found this food truck after looking around for some convenient food to eat during my lunch break at work. I got the Souvlaki Platter with Chicken and a side of Pita, which ended up being $10. (Cash only btw!) The platter was very fresh; the chicken tasted like it was just prepared and was very flavorful. For $10, the platter was quite filling and I was pretty satisfied for the rest of the afternoon. The servers were also super nice which was another added plus. I'm glad that I was able to find a quality food platter place two minutes from where I work at a solid price. Surprisingly good, simple Greek street food. We were hungry and looking for a fast lunch before a cat nap at the hotel and this place made everyone happy. The kids got grilled chicken with rice, French fries and pita bread that was at least something they would mostly eat. My wife and I got chicken souvlaki and lamb gyro platters. The chicken was delicious and had crunchy charred bits all over it that made it that much better. The tzatziki and hot sauce combination is key as well--even if I think the tzatziki is basically just yogurt. The lamb gyro meat was exactly what you'd expect. I preferred the chicken, but my wife preferred the lamb. The salad in the platter was mode to have some vegetables. The rice was good, but I'd probably swap it for more salad next time just to keep my body a bit happier. read more

The meat is just the perfect amount of charred, good amount of white sauce and hot sauce so you can still taste the flavor of the meat and salad, but still get that sauciness that brings it all together. This truck and the souvlaki platter is now one of my favorite go to's for work lunches, as their midtown location is just a couple streets down from the office. $10 and you get a choice of meat and sauces over rice, Greek salad, and pita. Not too many Greek food trucks around so I investigated. The pork souvlaki was pretty tasty, but at $11 it's a bit much for 5-6 bit of meat and some salad. It does come with pita and tasty dipping sauces, but if I have to choose between this and a $6 Halal platter I will go Halal every time. This is one of my favorite lunch carts in midtown. The gyro is my go-to but the chicken soulvaki is quite good too. They pile on the meat so don't worry about not getting full. Not only is the meat fresh, it's also quality and has great flavor. What sets Lil Zeus apart from other 'chicken/rice' food carts is their attention to detail with the rice and side salad. The salad is fresh and delicious! In fact you can order a Greek salad with meat. The rice is also really tasty and has great texture. The one thing that I don't care for here is the semi-hard baguette they throw in the bag with the meal. A slice of pita would be more appropriate for Mediterranean cuisine. Also the price is $9 for a rice platter because it's in Midtown. Contrast that with a $5 platter at The Casbah in Lincoln Center. All in all this is one of the better food carts in Midtown and the line can get pretty long during the midweek lunch rush. My advice is to go early (1130a)! read more

The basics are familiar at Lil Zeus: meat (chicken, lamb, or pork souvlaki over rice with salad, or in a pita...but their mastery of the simple items they serve make Lil Zeus stand out from their competition. The food here is simply fantastic and you'll be blown away with each bite. The portions are huge and each and every item is delicious. Get yourself a combo platter and proceed to clear the rest of your afternoon so you can crawl under your desk and nap it off. The wait times can be long, but it says a lot if the lines are 20-30 people deep in freezing cold, pouring rain, or oppressive heat. The customer service is a big plus and despite how busy the cart gets, there's still a smile waiting when you get your food and once when I had to wait a few extra minutes for an order of fries, the order was comped. I've never considered myself much of a food truck person. I'd rather either dine at a sit-down restaurant, or if I'm going to make like Pretty Woman and "cop a squat" wherever while I eat, then I prefer to go all-in with something ridiculously cheap 'n delicious.... The portable, but juice-dribbling-down-the-chin-inducing Pork & Cabbage-filled Pancakes from Tasty Dumpling come to mind. But of course, sometimes, I make an exception, as on this particular afternoon when I needed a quick and dirty lunch while near Rock Center: So anyway, this truck immediately caught my eye, boasting the longest line by far among several other vendors. Wound up ordering a Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich wrapped in Pita, and the kid got a Greek Salad. Now here's where the 'quick' part of my plan went to hell because it took FOREVER to get our food. Amazingly, all the Midtown office lunch hour escapees in line with me stood around patiently, seemingly nonplussed by the looong wait. Maybe they knew something I didn't? Well, I'm no mind reader, but I think they knew that their patience would be rewarded with a truly delicious, fresh, vibrant tasting meal at a reasonable in-relative-Midtown-terms price. 'Cause in the end, I ADORED my Sandwich, which I'd ordered with everything; loved the yin & yang combination of cooling yogurt sauce and hot sauce, loved the warm, fluffy Greek-style pita bread, loved the tender, flavorful souvlaki and pungent slices of raw onion. Salad was good too. But if you're not carb-averse, definitely go for a Sandwich. The guy who took my order was charming as can be, and the food was 5-star worthy. But the interminable prep time, which I see is a recurring theme per other reviews, tarnished the experience a bit for me. On the other hand, you know what they say... I've coming to Lil Zeus for over 3 years and honestly any time someone ask me for recommendations to eat in the city, my vote is on these guys! I have been rendered speechless but I'll try to relay to you how delicious this food is. I ordered two pork souvlaki sticks with just salt and oregano. The moment I sunk my teeth into the crispy pork souvlaki the flavor rushed right through me. I closed my eyes and was immediately brought back to my time in Greece sitting in the sun eating amazing souvlaki. That's how good this pork souvlaki is, for a moment I forgot where I was. It speaks volumes to the quality of their ingridients and skill of the guys on the grill that I tasted so much flavor in the meat without any sauce whatsoever! I've tried a number of Greek food trucks in the area and some Greek fast food in midtown and no one comes close to this fantastic flavor. At 11 45 am I waited maybe 8 minutes. Closer to a 3.5 Spotted this cart out the window from my office and everyday I saw it had a substantial line, so figured it was worth a try. Arriving about 12:15 we found a line about 12 people deep...next thing we knew 30 minutes had passed, so not the quickest of lines. Probably need to arrive by noon for it to be somewhat quick. They offer platters, salads and wraps. I opted for a lamb platter. The platter is served with salad, rice and your choice of meat. The salad was very tasty, the rice was OK, but kind of on the mushy side. The lamb was gyro sliced lamb and was good. It had a nice char from being thrown on the flattop to heat it up. Everything was covered with white sauce and hot sauce. The hot sauce is indeed spicy. The white sauce I thought would be more tzatziki like but it was more like a Halal cart white sauce and I could have used more of it. Overall it was pleasant with some nice flavors and for only $8 it was a great deal. It's a nice addition to the neighborhood; just arrive early to avoid a long wait. read more

Much like the Spartans of Grecian lore, Lil Zeus has chosen to mark it's location very close to an Eastern competitor just 2 blocks away. While halal guys don't serve up pork slouvaki from their cart, a comparison of the two trucks' gyro and chicken is inevitable. Just like at the Battle of Thermopylae, the Greeks are victorious in this head to head battle, namely in the all important tzatziki sauce, in all it's creamy yogurt based goodness from Lil Zeus. A gyro platter comes loaded with big slices of warm meat, fresh spiced rice and a hearty side salad, all doused in tzatziki and hot sauce. Rather confusingly, my platter was served with half an Italian hero loaf - not sure if there was a run on the pita's earlier in the day. Coming in at about $9, Lil Zeus isn't the most reasonably priced platter, but it is one of the better ones in midtown. read more

I don't understand all the hype behind Halal Guys when you have a far superior product with Lil Zeus. I probably get food here at least twice a week and have fully abandoned Halal Guys. First off, Halal Guys white sauce is laced with so much mayo its not even anything close to resembling a tzatziki...2nd, Halal Guys hot sauce is so bloody hot you can't taste what you are eating. Finally Halal Guys shreds the meat to such granular pieces, its like you're eating dog food. at Lil Zeus you have none of those problems. The lamb meat is the typical donair kebab type (sausage/semi processed style) while their chicken is legit, cooked souvlaki style. The guys running this truck are friendly guys and they work hard to keep the line moving. Why didn't i give it a full 5 stars? well the salad isn't entirely greek as they used shredded iceberg lettuce as a primary filler instead of the green peppers, red onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, big blocks of feta + olives and oregano you see with regular Greek salads. Overall, the pricing is very fair for the portion size and its pretty delicious. Most importantly, this place puts Halal Guys to shame. Seriously...how can you squirt mayo all over meat that's been pulverized into pebble like pieces? read more

Lil Zeus lunch box it's not only a catchy name. The food will keep you coming back for more. Usually the line has 4 - 8 people wait all lunch long. Lil Zeus has a strong following for a reason. The meats are flavorful and the portions are enough to hold you through an extended day at work. I've been coming to the cart for a while now and prices have increased, but It appears that they are operating out of a new cart. They first entered the block with just a two man cart, now it's four (1 guy taking your order, 1 guy putting it together and packing it, and 2 guys on the grills). The other cart was way to small to accommodate them. I'm all for paying a little more for newer equipment and freshly prepared Food. read more
