I'm always on the lookout for unique sandwich shops, and this is one of the best I have found in a while. I typically go for a cold sub, usually something like a classic Italian. Not today. Right when I walked in, I was smacked in the face by the wonderful smell of meat grilling on the flattop. I had no choice but to get the steak and cheese. The quality of the meat was second to none, and the sandwich tastes amazing as a result. Definitely ask for the hot sauce. It is a delicious combination of tangy vinegar and sweet heat. Adds another level of enjoyment to the experience. To top it all off, the staff is very welcoming as well. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes (everything freshly prepared right in front of me). Everyone was smiling and having a good time (kinda rare these days). A little on the expensive side at $20 for the sandwich, but honestly I am trying to keep myself from going back in to get another one to "share" with my wife. I stopped by the next day and asked about the lack of meat. I was bluntly told there was 4 ounces of meat on the sandwich and that was that. This used to be a great sub shop to go to even though they are cash only & I never carry cash I used to go out my way to get a sub from them whenever I had enough cash or would just go to the bank. The hot sauce they put on their subs are the gem and what kept me coming back all these years. BUT this is my last straw with them, after the countless times I have witness them being rude to my father who used to just ask them to PUT ON GLOVES WHEN MAKING HIS SANDWICH, he is someone who has been going since he was a kid living in the area. Stopped by for the famous Philly Cheese steak sandwich and they did not disappoint.. in fact I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meat and hoagie - and the friendly service from the team behind the counter. Team, it's small - there is no sitting room - but I had no problem buying four of these lovelies and stood outside with a few friends munching away. Telling you the food was amazing. When they offer their hot sauce - accept the offer - it's a perfect compliment/add to the sandwich... Been almost 10 days, and had to look them up to see if open on weekends. The shopping center that it is located in was recently remodeled, to bad the inside of the sandwich shop was not! You could easily mistake this place for a broom closet, it is that small! While the inside is extremely small, they manage to work with what they have. This is strictly take out and cash only. Do not come here if your looking for a place to sit and eat, won't happen. I have been coming here on and off more off for about 10 years. The Philly cheese steak is my favorite, actually it is the only thing I have ever tried. They usually pack the bread full of steak and add plenty of provolone cheese. The meat has a good flavor, yes it is greasy but isn't that what makes a great cheese steak? A friend of mine has been talking about the best subs in Fort Lauderdale for a long time and today I finally got a chance to taste one. And I must say sub the was delicious down to the last bite. I went during a lunch break and it wasn't packed... thank goodness because this sub shop was standing room only (with the exception for a two chairs and a small die table). From my understanding all the subs are foot-longs and the average price is $6 and some change. The staff (two females when I went) were really nice. Better job on the Second Time. I got the American Cold Cuts Sub. It's bologna, spiced ham, and cooked salami. I made sure to say easy on the onions and O and V. I even added their homemade pepper sauce. The sub was constructed perfect (see pic). The pepper sauce had a sweet hot punch which gave the sub some added flavor. By the way, this place is a hole and very tiny. There were four of us waiting for subs and one dude waiting outside because the place is so small. Also, the decor is old old old. With that said, if you are a clean freak don't come here. If you want a good sub with some friendly employees, served in a place that has character then I would bookmark this place for you to try. A little disappointed today with my sub and I brought one of my coworkers there today for the first time. I really hope she likes her sub, but mine again was disappointing. This is the 2nd time I've been there because they make grinders like I grew up on in Cape Cod Massachusetts, in particular my all time favorite cheese burger sub. Usually the meat is chopped up into smaller peices and the veggies and cheese are cooked on the grill and season real well. I'm glad I gave Famous Phil's a try. I was a bit turned off when I walked in there by the cramped space and overall decor, but it is a mom and pop place after all. They only take cash too! No square, apple pay or venmo. The staff was friendly, looked like the owners themselves. I tried the sub bomb, which was great! It was more like the crater left after Hiroshima though! There was so much stuff on that sub it couldn't close whatsoever, it was like a pizza sub, open bread with tons of stuff on it. Thats how I ate it and I loved it! Definitely worth the $10. Decided to try this location because I was craving a cheesesteak sub. The reviews were fairly good so I was expecting an awesome sub. The inside is small but the employees are very nice. I watched the cook make the cheesesteak sub and instantly knew I wasn't gonna like it. I HATE when the steak is chopped up so much it looks like ground beef, I want it to feel like I'm eating a steak sub not a ground beef sub. *sigh* I finally got home to eat the sub and all though it was huge I knew my first impression was right, the sub taste like a burger sub, the meat was falling out and it was simple not what I expect to have in a steak sub. Coming from the neighborhood, I've seen this place downward spiral...from the original Fat Freddie's to the doable Famous Phil's to the almost unrecognizable Famous Phil's. I think the only thing authentic to the original shop at this point is the name. Obviously under new management - no type of customer service etiquette. You call and get a rude, "yeah, what you ordering." The steaks are way overpriced and they are over seasoned and not what you are used to from this establishment. If you like cheesesteaks, this is the best one I've ever had, and I've never been a big cheesesteak fan, until now. The shop itself is a very small storefront with no indoor (or outdoor for that matter) seating. Like others have said, it indeed looks like it's from the 70s (signage included). None of that is really an issue for me though. I got the Steak Bomb (steak, cheese presumably provolone or mozzarella, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, and spaghetti sauce which was withheld) for $10.34. The menu posted on the wall doesn't have prices, but I believe the take out menu does. The sub itself was indeed big but didn't really have any flavor. Walked in the famous phils in a very small shop. Wasn't expecting that much was just hungry. To my surprise the owner was there cooking all the food herself.
