Honestly I looked on yelp tonight for a good pizza shop, tonight I stumbled upon rays. I'm actually quite disappointed since this place had such great reviews. To put it short the only good thing I liked about it was the fact yelp showed it was open until 10:30. However that was also not the case. I'm not sure if they changed the hours recently but after picking up the pie a little under an hour before closing time they had closed shop. As for the pie I can't call it NY style let alone gourmet. The crust tasted over cooked for NY style and lacked spice, it was relatable to papa johns. As for the cheese it was the most flavorful aspect of the pie. The pepperoni could've had more taste, tasted like it wasn't fresh. The sauce surprisingly enough was the worst part. It was reminiscent of spaghetti sauce. It had no differentiating factors from general pizza companies. The customer service was subpar they were slightly nice in person but over the phone it was cold and felt like an uncomfortable call with an ex where you said you wanted your hoodie back. read more

The manager who's daddy owns the store is a bitch. Every time i went into the store she gave me a bratty tone and was very impolite. After calling to report the behavior she continued to argue and rejected the situations. Good luck to anyone who has to deal with her. Definitely not eating at this place anytime soon. read more

Didn't pay attention to my request for not tomatoes on my salad, had 2 big ones on there. No dressing included. Most other restaurants that are doing contactless order Put in bag, instead my pizza box was left on the ground near my shoes that I wear to the hospital I work in. I'm posting this review in defense of Famous rays pizza. Earlier today I was in the store when a very angry female worker that had been out with covid barged into the back of the store (where the kitchen is) and started screaming at the owner about letting her come back to work because she has bills to pay. When the owner refused to let her come back to work she started saying " is it cause you're scared" and then she started fake covid coughing toward the owner and all over the kitchen!!!!! Mind you this is a woman who LITERALLY has the virus in a kitchen where food is being prepared and she wants to come back to work acting like this......the owner handled it as well as he could without trying to cause an even bigger scene. He kept telling her to leave his store and she finally obliged after 5 minutes of screaming and coughing on things and people. She put the workers at risk and she was willing to put unknowing paying customers at risk all because she has a few bills to pay. I hope the restaurant fires this woman and that she can't get a job working with food ever again, because I for one wouldn't want anyone that filthy making my meals. read more

Drove a bit far to try based on amazing reviews. It was just fine, wasn't blown away. They ran out of one of the toppings for one of the pizzas. My husband's pineapple and pepperoni (ran out of bacon) was A LOT better than my vegetarian one ... It didn't do it for me plus the mushrooms we're canned which I found a bit odd. I LOVE mushrooms seems I hate canned ones. It was also kinda $$$ almost $45 for two medium pizzas. Sad I love Rays but ordered a pizza tonight and the cheese smells and tastes moldy. I don't usually complain but I thought they should know so they could fix it for others. Well when I called I was told there was no way that was old they just opened the cheese, she actually laughed. I said ok. Good luck with that. I wasn't looking for a free pie. But at least acknowledging that I might have a valid point would have been better customer service at least checking it out for other customers. Don't let the rating fool you. We ordered delivery and weren't impressed at all. The pizza was cold...the calzone was a blob of ricotta cheese and the cheesy pesto bread was soaked in garlic. We ordered manicotti as well but we received notice that it wasn't on their menu anymore. Just as well as it probably would have had something wrong with it too. While the pizza is great as it is the closest to east coast pizza, my visit tonight really disappointed me. I called from my work at 27th Ave and Glendale as I knew that it would give me enough time to get here and my pizza will be ready for me to take home. I spoke with someone who took my order and was given an order number. When I got here, the order was not ready and the girls at the front made it seem like it was my fault. I then needed to ask if they are going to make my order. I work in customer service so I know how it can be difficult, but I felt like I had a right to be upset. Order at the counter, pay, get your drink, have a seat...they'll call you when it's ready. The folks working the counter are definitely from NY (in case you couldn't tell by their ridiculously strong accents and all of the NY sport posters strewn across the wall). Getting a good vibe so far. My name is called and I eagerly retrieve my pizza. It looks just like what I'd get in NY. More good vibes! I taste it and I'm in heaven. Seriously, it's so good that I have never been to another pizza place since I moved to Phoenix because I honestly don't have to (or want to!). They have an everyday special of 2 slices and a fountain drink for $5.00 (can't beat that with a stick). They don't do delivery (boo), but I don't care. I'd drive 50 miles for this pizza. Seriously, I think the stars aligned on my first day in the Valley of the Sun. How else could you possibly explain how I found my pizza soul mate on my very first day here??? We ordered the Monster Pie. My brother and I thought the taste was 3 out of 5. Price is a little expensive but they give you a lot of meat. Several hours after eating this pizza, I felt like crap. Much the same feeling when I eat pizza made from cheap ingredients like a few national pizza chains do. I would rate many of the national pizza chains 2/5 stars as well. The next day, I reheated the leftovers in a pizza stone. And again, several hours after eating, feel like crap again. I don't like eating cheap food. So so glad I did being that I was born & raised on Long Island & my first job was in a New York pizzeria Giancarlo's Restaurant to be exact, therefore I know a thing or two about authentic NY pizza not the wanna be NY pizza. All I can say is this is the real deal & if you say otherwise well you need to learn a thing or two about NY pizza. Yes New York pizza can be a little greasy & if you're from New York you know to fold the pizza as you're eating it & the extra grease from the good cheese drips onto your white paper plates & only the white paper plates!! I went here today for the first time in months and it was exactly what I expected. I have been going to this location for almost 10 years now, not very regularly. Each time I go there I hope they are still in business because it seems most places in that plaza have struggled with the economy. Sure enough, they're still in business. I was pleased to know they still had their ALL-DAY 2 slices & drink special for around $4.50. 2 Cheese New York Style slices and a Mountain Dew. Great pizza, laid back atmosphere you should expect from an authentic NewYork Style pizza joint. Just as good as it has always been - great pizza.
