Located right next to Fantan Alley. The place is very classic and the service is amazing. Mom and I went here for our trip to Victoria. We ordered the dinner combo for two... The wonton soup was to die for. So flavorful and fresh. The wontons melted in the mouth. The chowmein was good but felt a little bit over-sauteed. I enjoyed the chopseuy though. It was perfectly seasoned and nicely paired with the chowmein. The prawn tempura style side dishes were average. So was the honey chilli meatballs. I'm not sure that I can rate Fan Tan as a solid four stars, but will round up. Service was ok, but not as fast as I expected for a cruise port. They seemed a little overwhelmed or short staffed. I'm thinking there was also a decent amount of takeout orders, as it didn't seem too busy inside. The space is a little tight and could use a few updates, nothing fancy. Woah. This was... yikes. We ordered the wonton soup and it was an awful bowl of microwaved wontons, bland broth, a mountain of very large and very raw vegetables, and "chicken". Note the quotations around the "chicken" - it tasted like a sponge was soaked in a teriyaki and water mixture. In short, it was spongy (?) in a way you should never have to explain meat texture. If you've had Panda Express, you've had better Chinese food. No need for a stop. It was FAN-awful. read more

This is a small restaurant in Chinatown. Unassuming from the outside and modern inside. Colorful abstract paintings adorn the walls surrounding about a dozen tables. The service is good and they have a decent menu. I ordered the dumplings in honor of Chinese New Year and they did not disappoint me. The pork inside was lean and tender. They were plenty hot and came with a bunch sprouts, some shredded carrots, sweet vinegar, and plum sauce. I loved them. For my main dish, I ordered the Spicy Wor Wonton Soup. It was hot and spicy. The broth was super thick, more like a gravy. The wontons were buried on the bottom below mostly veggies. There was very little meat in the soup and the flavor was not what I expect in a Wor Wonton. Hubby flat out hated it. I ate half of mine because it wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was hoping for. If I go back, I'll order a noodle dish instead. They looked very good. read more

My chooses were; Cashew chicken, deep fried prawns and chicken chow mein. The cashew chicken was yummy, unfortunately the rest was not. The prawns were extremely greasy and a few drops of grease came out when I picked one up, the chow mein was the worst I've ever had... Very dehydrated noodles (almost think they were leftover from the day before) and very very chewy. For me, I won't go back. $34 total for a combo, beer and a $4 tip. read more

I was reading reviews and most were positive, 1 was nasty but we were getting HANGRY! We were greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted. The sign outside said "BEST WOR WONTON SOUP" so I went for it and got the shrimp variety. My husband got a combo of pork fried rice, fried shrimp and cashew chicken. Everything was AMAZING! They didn't lie, this was the best soup I had ever had, a full meal of every vegetable you could think of, meat, and peppery shrimp wontons. The broth was robust and made with love. Oh hell yes. Everything about our dinner here was delicious, and fantastic! We got take out (obviously, it's COVID time) and it was ready super fast, and the food was hot, fresh and probably the best Chinese food we've had in a long time! My wife got the chicken chow mein and the flavours were subtle but yummy, and noodles were perfectly cooked. I had the Shanghai noods with vegetables - the veggies were SO GOOD and so fresh, noodles were perfectly cooked and there was exactly the right amount of sauce which was so flavourful. If you like so so Chinese food from the 1950's you will love this place. Otherwise stay away. Our friends took us here and it is one of their favorites. Personally my husband and I found it to be not so good. Large portions of mediocre Chinese food in a cute little place in Chinatown. The service was pretty bad considering there were only two other tables occupied the evening we were there it took forever to get the check. We were yelling at anyone who was there to please bring us the check but it was like we were invisible. I would never go back. But it never ceases to amaze me how these kind of places stay in business when the food and the service is mediocre. read more

I wish I would have taken a pic of the dishes because they were piled high and full of veggies and meat. The soup has 3 types of meat (chicken, BBQ pork, shrimp, plus the pork wontons AND it was packed full of veggies), you can get shrimp dumplings if you prefer for $2 extra...this meal was outstanding. My daughter and I stumbled upon this cafe while traveling with our greyhound. We got a table on the patio, which was delightfully dog friendly. Our waitress shared stories of her cat, while accommodating our request for a bowl of water and grilled chicken breast for our dog. My daughter ordered the box 5 with chicken chow mein and sweet and sour chicken balls, which was easily one of her favorite meals during our visit to Victoria. Prices were affordable, portions were massive, and the service was excellent. Well from the outside this place looks like an authentic old school Chinese restaurant, but inside it's quite modern. The staff were all very nice and friendly. I had a chicken noodle bowl with cashew chicken and it was good. Didn't blow me away but it was good. Everyone else's food looked better than mine so I'll have to return next time I'm in Victoria. Best place on earth. Their wor wonton and lo wor are unparalleled anywhere else on the planet. The staff are unreal, super friendly and always smiling and in a great mood. I go to the island just for this place and if I have to go to the island for any other reason, family, work, etc. I make sure to stop by here. They have two sizes, medium and large bowl. I used to be able to down the large but I've grown soft in my old age. This place is a gem though and should be deemed Victoria heritage and the owner forbidden to close. Hungry? Look no further. This was a great stop with large lunch portions to fill us after a long day of walking around town. The garlic beef was amazing, so uniquely crispy and tender. I had it with the fried rice, with no shortage of egg and veggies. Their wonton soup is also a must try! We also had a huge portion of seafood chow meni delivered to our table- even the lunch portion is easily a pound of goodness! The owners are very nice and it was great to stop at a family owned business, a good mix of locals and tourists were in and despite all tables full we had food delivered quickly. Lovely service but awful food. Both our dishes were mega greasy. Had the lunch combo and Thai Peanut Noodles with shrimp. The temperatures were off, one was too hot the other too cold. Peanut dish was watery and everything else was dominated by grease. We were really hungry but barely could finish half of what we ordered because it was so bad. During previous visits there several years ago we were never as disappointed as this time. Prices have doubled and the quality has vanished. Used to love this place. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone a bit downhill each of the last few times we visited. Tonight was really bad. Was about 1/2 to 3/4 full when we arrived. The waitress was very disorganized and the kitchen was putting out food very slowly. Flavours were OK, but it took over an hour to get our food and, after waiting that long, all of it arrived barely warm or cold. Even worse, the waitress didn't offer an explanation or even an apology when I asked why everything was cold after waiting so long. No offers of water or tea refills at all. As I write this before leaving we have been here about 1:40 and it is less than half full. There is a saving grace, and why I gave it 3 stars. This place was a fantastic accidental find. We had just a few hours in Victoria as we were on a cruise. We passed by the window and saw it was busy so decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint! The menu is very large and a little bit confusing as they have a large number of noodle dishes that all have different kinds of noodles incorporated so it was a bit tricky figuring out what was what. Luckily the couple next to us had their food delivered to the table just wrote we ordered and we were able to see that the portions were ENORMOUS and that one dish would be enough for both of us. We started with won ton soup, which on its face is fairly mundane. It just so happens this was the absolute best won ton soup I've ever had hands down. The won tons were dense and full of pork, scallion and ginger flavor. They were perfection. The soup was $3! I would have paid triple for it! We ordered a cantonese noodle dish with pork, shrimp and chicken as our shared entree. It was a mountain of yummy noodles with chucks of the aforementioned. Not too saucy and noodles were perfectly prepared. The only reason I am not awarding 5 stars is that the food took a very long time to come out. We waited almost half an hour for the soup. Otherwise, the wait staff was lovely. If I ever find myself back in Victoria, this will be my first stop. read more

Came for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Got a table right away but the wait for the food was longer than expected. Some other patrons mentioned they were waiting for over 45 minutes. Rude owner, overpriced food. Tons of other choices. Go somewhere else. We walked from our cruise ship to downtown and did one of the bus tours. We got off in China Town only to be severely disappointed with the area. We had a 90m wait for the next bus so we stopped to feed our starving toddler. Out of terrible luck we picked this place. We were seated in a very tight area with barely enough room to get to our seats. After waiting 15m they took our order. A few minutes later the waitress comes back and says each person at the table needed a $10 minimum order! We ordered $25 total between 4 people. I'm sorry. Is this is a crime? Apparently to the greedy owner it is. We just wanted to feed our hungry child and the OWNER gave us the boot because he wasn't satisfied with our order. So we left. To top it off, we had a poopy diaper to change and had to do it in the rain outside on the sidewalk. Who boots a 2 year old from their restaurant over an order minimum that isn't posted anywhere?
