All of the reviews saying this is the best Chinese food they have had outside of China are correct! Everything was super fresh, light, and perfectly seasoned. The beef was tender and the tofu was soft on the inside but toasted on the outside. Their staff is also super nice and service was quick. Would love to come back! read more

Food was ok, not great, biggest complaint was the wait time. It's a mom and pop place, no servers or waiters, just him and her and one wok. The place was half full, but took 45 minutes to be served the meals we requested. They tried their best, kept us going with small plate appetizers. Empty water glasses were passed by several times until we flagged her down for refills. I actually asked her. "Did someone not show up for work today?" We're from LA visiting my family in Victoria. We did a take out order for 7 dishes for 7 people. Found Cozy Place on Yelp. Food quality was above average; I particularly liked the level of spiciness in the dishes we wanted spicy. Palpable, but not overwhelming. Also, all vegetables in any dish was not overcooked. The beans were still had a touch of crunch considering they travelled 20 minutes before we ate. Same for the salt and pepper tentacles. Very tasty! Chow mein and fried rice were also excellent. The fish with vegetables dish was so-so; fish was coated and appeared fried; would prefer steamed, but was still tasty. Our only complaint was there wasn't enough food! read more

This is a little hidden gem. The location is unassuming but the food was delish. The gentleman does the cooking and the wife waits the tables. Authentic Chinese cuisine. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Being from the US we are accustomed to Chinese food (and any food, really) being cooked and tabled rather quickly. This was not the case here and we have ZERO complaints. We waited a little over 20 minutes before all our plates had been served (they were not busy) and it was worth the wait. Collectively we ordered sweet and sour pork, the dragon eggplant, the braised pork spare ribs, and the house chow mein. This was the best Chinese food I've ever had. My husband and I shared Gung Po chicken, stir-fried beef with black pepper, and stir-fried dried green beans (light spice) and everything was delicious. I often get turned off by the quality of the meat used in Chinese restaurant cooking, as the meat can be grisly or too fatty for my taste. This was not a problem here. If you're looking for crab Rangoon or fried egg rolls - go somewhere else. This seems truly authentic and doesn't have the common Chinese restaurant staples you may find at your local place. We were in Victoria for a day, and stopped in here for some food based on Yelp reviews. It was just my husband and me, a party of four, and a party of two. The only people working in the restaurant were the husband and wife team. They were nice and polite. Because there were only two people working, service was a bit slow. However, this allowed my husband and I to talk and enjoy our meal. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer, but they came out after we'd gotten an entree. Basically, the food comes out when it comes out. The husband is the one cooking each dish--one at a time. Again, no harm no foul, but if you're in a rush, this might not be the place for you. As far as the food goes, it was okay. It wasn't GREAT, but it was fine. As I mentioned we got the shrimp spring rolls (four stars/get those!), gung pao chicken (two stars), pork belly (four stars), shrimp fried rice (three stars). The gung pao was my least favorite because the bell peppers were so hard (they weren't cooked all the way) and there were so many bell peppers! Plus, the peanuts were just tossed in at the end of the dish and weren't cooked with the dish. This whole-in-the-wall is all you expect of a nice, family-owned Chinese restaurant. The food was very good and full of flavor, the owners were very nice and the portions were ample. I like that they offered some dishes I have never seen before and stray away from some of the North American Chinese cuisine cliches. Definitely worth the detour out of Chinatown. read more

While visiting Vancouver late July, we found this wonderful place close to our hotel .. the BEST Chinese food we have ever had!!! Lived in San Francisco for over 20 years, now in Portland Metro area .. frequented all chinatown eateries in both places but nothing comes close to this authentic place. The garlic shrimp spring rolls have nothing else in them but just fresh garlic & shrimp .. OMG, so so delicious. We then shared the stir fried sliced lamb with cumin & their ribs in black vinegar sauce. Such an incredible flavor profile ... still craving those garlic shrimp spring rolls. Loved the cumin lamb and the chow mein! The chow mein was very thin noodles, which we enjoyed more than the thick noodles we are used to in the U.S. Very friendly family runs the place. Enjoyed that we could have alcoholic cider with our dinner, too. One note: our entree (the lamb) did not come with rice. It did not need it, as it was not "saucy". Yuckkkkk!! Right smack by Victoria china town and ended up here for the reviews. But it wasn't a good choice. For $17, you get a kung pao chicken lunch, no rice with a half hour wait! It was a tiny, sugary chicken! Almost tasted like something sweet. Fried sweet chicken tossed with peanuts! It was neither kung pao chicken nor good. I thought maybe Victoria is just expensive but not quite. This was the most overpriced for the the worst tasting dish. Way too caramelized, not edible. Not for normal palate anyway. We always begin the New Years with a Chinese food feast and decided to try the Cozy place. It was, in fact, a cozy little restaurant with a view of the chef cooking to order as you wait for take-out. It was fun to watch him cook in the large woks and add the sauces and meats. We ordered bbq pork chow men, hung po chicken and black pepper beef and it was delicious with a perfect spicy kick! Great place for some Authentic homemade Chinese, no sweet and sour chicken balls here. Super friendly Husband and Wife team who cook in an open kitchen (probably the cleanest around). You will feel very welcomed which is always appreciated. I suggest the Kung Pao Chicken and Vinegar Braised Ribs, might not be the most authentic on the menu but both are amazing. I let my boyfriend pick the Chinese restaurant we would try while in Victoria. While it wasn't in Chinatown, it was close by. We took a healthy walk from our hotel at the Inner Harbor. When we walked in it took my breath away. There was a spice in the air that just jumped down my throat. Immediately we were offered some water. It was definitely warm and cozy inside. And at first, we were quite doubtful of his picking skills. We ordered the garlic shrimp spring rolls, bbq pork fried rice, and sweet and sour pork. While we were waiting she heard us practicing with our chopsticks and I went ahead and asked for forks. She brought us forks then showed me how to use chop sticks. I'm over 50 and have not been holding my chop sticks correctly - ever. I'm proud to say that she taught me properly! I had my entire meal with chop sticks! (Well, not the spring roll, I'm still a heathen and use my hands) The food came all at once, a nice little personal touch was that the order of three spring rolls - one of them was cut in half. I've always liked hot mustard sauce with my spring rolls and while they didn't have any, she did bring me some chili sauce. However, it was unnecessary - the sauce with the spring roll was just amazing. It was sweet with a little spice and complimented the spring roll perfectly. The rice!!! O M G. Best ever. It didn't have a fried/oily taste to it at all. Too often it ends up with a coating of oil that just feels gross. Not this one. It was delicious. The eggs, corn, peas, pork... mixed and blended perfectly. The best for last... sweet and sour pork. No disgusting red goo coating the pork. A true sweet and savory concoction that had colors that come from food, not from an artificial coloring. The pork was lightly breaded and gently tossed in the sweet and sour sauce. I'm not much for onions or peppers, but my boyfriend made sure that plate was empty. Don't be put off by the cozy atmosphere - it was a great dining experience that was worth any wait. We arrived around 5:30 pm and were walking out the door around 6:45 pm. We would gladly go back if we are on the island again. read more

The food is made with love, and you can taste it. I am still dreaming of the chow mein: The ingredients are thoughtfully sliced perfectly to compliment the thin noodles. Every bite you get veggies and meat and noodles -- all cooked evenly and delicately seasoned. I noticed in all the dishes how delicately and thoughtfully sized the ingredients were chopped. My party of 4 ordered 5 items to share. They are cooked fresh, one at a time which works out perfectly for sharing. We had black vinegar ribs, pork belly, gung-ho chicken, Cozy Place chow mein and some other delicious beef dish. They were all excellent and better than any other Chinese restaurant I've been to. I read the good reviews about the Cozy Place and came tonight for dinner with my wife. We ordered some spring rolls, chicken chow mein, stir fried beef with mixed vegetables and rice. When the spring rolls came out we couldn't eat them because they were too hot but the chicken chow mein came out too. Without a doubt the best chow mein I have ever had. Then the stir fried beef came out and as I told the owner it was a test. We are accustomed to Chinese food in Lincoln NE. The beef is usually tenderized to the consistency of mashed potatoes. Not here. This was excellent. I told the server that we would need a box but we were so excited about this food that we left our plates clean. I drove away with the pronouncement that this was the BEST Chinese food I have ever eaten. Go to this restaurant. Make them famous. They deserve it. read more
