Was driving by and stopped in for some fried ginger beef. The restaurant itself looks clean enough? Until you look up. They never peeled the plastic off the tbar ceilings, it's crumpled, wrinkled, stained, and dirty. The plastic just dangles. The emergency exit sign is wrapped in plastic wrap for some reason? The food itself is alright. The fried ginger beef is written on the menu as spicy, but there isn't a hint of spice to balance out the sweetness of the dish, which is quite unfortunate. Typically I get my food from Halibut House but I called and requested take out. I am not disappointed. The portions are fair for the price you pay compared to other restaurants, plus 10% off. Cozy, hole-in-the-wall, mom & pop restaurant specializing in classic Chinese comfort food. Ordered Lum's Chow Mein, Szechuan Chicken, Sweet & Sour Lean Pork, and the Seafood Combo. Generous portions & about $10 each platter. Very impressed with the quality and felt full afterwards (we even brought home leftovers as a party of 4). I loved the Seafood Combo dish. The sauce is flavorful, the veggies were crunchy & fresh, and the shrimp & squid were good. Szechuan chicken was also great. Only cons is that service was a bit slow, but understandable as there was only 1 hostess for the entire restaurant, and there was takeout & delivery going on simultaneously. She was still attentive, patient, and responded quickly when we asked her to graciously reheat one of our plates. The kitchen also opens to the restaurant, so I would not advise to wear anything you'd like to have smell or garlic or ginger for the next few days hahah. Overall, 5 stars due to quality, service, and that you certainly get what you pay for in terms of portion. Definitely would visit again. read more

Honestly, I've had Lums before and I know what I was getting and yet I still picked up a Dinner-for-one combo to go. I think your standard combos, one example consisting of fried rice/almond chicken/sweet and sour pork goes for just over 10 bucks before tax. They give you a pretty huge portion, but realistically the food ain't so good. If you are starving and really craving Canadianized chinese food it may do the job. I am part Chinese and extremely picky with Chinese food so maybe you will end up liking it more than I. If you want good chinese food there are a lot of other places to check out, just not in Esquimalt. read more

The hot and sour soup was the perfect flavour, the shrimp chow mein was perfectly cooked and the beef& broccoli was full of flavour as well. To top it off, the prices were more than fair. We decided to have Chinese out and picked this spot as it had decent reviews. The service was good however they didn't offer us water, which is minor I suppose. You can see that they cook everything fresh behind the counter however the food still had a bit of an "old" taste to it. Not sure why that was. After passing this place at least 100 times, not seeing any reviews on either Yelp or Urbanspoon we decided to give it a try for delivery. Lum's has been in business for 45 years and it shows. The cuisine is typical Chinese-Canadian, with a menu consisting of Chop Suey and several toned-down, but greasy versions of more authentic Chinese dishes. While the delivery was prompt and fast, the Egg Rolls tasted like those from the freezer section at the grocery store. The Ginger Tofu had too much sugar and the noodles in our Chow Mein reminded my wife of Mr. Noodles. While this did not make me sick, I will continue to seek out other Chinese places that will deliver to my area. read more

We ordered take out for delivery from here recently. They told us it would take an hour. So after 1hour 25mins I called to check and our order wasn't quite ready yet. After over 2 hours we were going to order pizza but they showed up. Our food was cold, but it tasted pretty good. We ordered chicken fried rice, lemon chicken, beef chow mein, pineapple ginger beef and a spring roll. The rice and lemon chicken were quite good. I didn't like the ginger beef. I was expecting it to be the typical deep fried beef but it was just cut pieces of non deep fried beef. Possibly healthier? But I didn't enjoy it. Hubby said the spring roll was really good, it was big. The beef chow mein was also just ok. The price was fair tho - big portions and it came to around $42 for all of it. They don't cater to single people. From their online menu, they only offer delivery. When I tried to order a meal for one and pickup, their site would not accept the order -- delivery only. And the minimum is $20. So ordered pizza instead. :-( read more

A new favourite! Our first time visiting Lum's, and as they are post reno after the fire in that neighborhood, the place looks very nice indeed. Comfortable & clean, with nice bathrooms even. Today I *had* to have fried rice and sweet n' sour pork, and having been meaning to try out Lum's for ages, we finally were convinced by their menu and prices. Boy were we pleasantly surprised. For just over $17 we got exactly what I was looking for, with hearty portions, super fast & friendly service, and absolutely delicious flavours. Lum's... where do I even begin? I've been living in esquimalt for a year. I've always been a person who eats out, not much of a cooking lad, and I'm a little depressive so I love to eat junky food (fast food). I eat at McDonald's more than I am proud of. lately I've been getting really tired of the same old burgers and fries so I tried searching for something new. I think I was really drunk after the pride parade and I was with my friend and we were like "let's order Chinese food" so we went online and found the closest delivery Chinese food place. this was when I met Lum's. it was love at first sight. the man who brought us our food was very nice and was prompt. I ate my food while watching some Vice video on YouTube about some lady who was touring Germany in search of the best late night food to eat and the whole time I was eating I thought to myself "holy smokes, she should eat Lum's". I have gone back many, many times and every time I go I am greeted by the nice ladies who work there and I love to eat the food. it's close enough to my house that I can phone in my order and then drive down and it's ready for me when I arrive. I have never been sick from the food, or even had as much as a stomach ache after. I love Lum's. the staff is amazing, the food is amazing... as soon as I post this I'm gonna order some and eat it because writing this has made me want Lum's. keep up the great work, guys. five stars!!!!!! read more

Well I ordered a week ago a lot of money for food for my clients and it was cold and raw..they say their seafood is fresh but it is not. I think this place thinks that they are so hot that they do not care . I have customers all the time coming into town renting homes in the Esquimalt area and mostly it was good till now. When I called them they cared nothing. When my customer called me a week ago when we ordered food we left it out of the door for someone to pick up and nobody did and today with a new customer they had no recollection that we called them. They said they were busy and we tried again to save them with ordering again and they cared not. They say they are the same owners for over four years but they are not they are not even there for 2 years. We have had to move our customers to other locations and it has been great. For those who are reading you might have one good experience in this location but the next one is not good and the biggest thing the seafood has not been fresh its been frozen for months. This is the season for fresh seafood..their freezer is packed with frozen food. You want fresh every day go to china town.if I could rate 0 I would read more
