I brought in my mini golden doodle and he was very matted so I understood we were going to have to shave him down pretty much all the way. What I found crazy is that they charged 150 dollars for it (he's a 26lb dog) I can understand a cut being that much on that kind of dog but to completely shave you down and still be that much was insane. Not to mention how long they left his tail and ears. They also conveniently forgot they had charged me a deposit so it was 150 plus the 30 something I had put down to reserve an appointment. Today was our first time at Fancy Fur n' Purr and I cant recommend the grooming team here enough! We've used three separate groomers in the East Valley and have always enjoyed our experiences at other places, but I'm certain we've found the right place for our fur kids. The ladies were fantastic with our two pups - Bella and Brody. Brody is a 7 mos. Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier (SCWT) puppy (he's all puppy). His ears, face and paws were a bit of a mess since he was neutered recently. They took great care of him - even pointed out that he might have the start of an ear infection. Bella is 1.5 year old SCWT mix. From the time I walked in the door they asked me questions about what I was looking for and were very engaged with the two pups. After leaving they called to let me know that they needed to cut Bella closer than I originally had asked for which was fine. A+ for calling and communicating that to me! Brittany called when they were finishing with Brody to confirm how I wanted his face/eyes cut. I scheduled an appt for my long haired cat. While scheduling, I was told there would be a $25 deposit - no problem. Somewhere along the way, there was a miscommunication. I called the salon the very next day to cancel the appt and requested my deposit back. The girl I spoke to was very rude when I stated I was not told the deposit was nonrefundable. She stated, "I know it was told to you b/c that's part of our spiel." She claimed she would have her manager (owner?) call me the next day to discuss the situation. It's almost been a week and nobody's returned my call. Had the nonrefundable deposit policy been clearly explained to me and/or had I not misunderstood, I would not have made the appt. According to a Yelp review of someone else who was also scammed, the owner replied stating that the salon has been experiencing an "alarming rates of no-shows and last minute cancelations" as the reason for the nonrefundable deposit policy, which is totally understandable. However, my attempt to cancel was not at all last minute as my appt wasn't for another week nor was it a no-show. They had plenty of time to fill that slot. It's not the amount, but the principle of the fact that this business refuses to refund money for an appointment cancelled on a timely basis and is rude to new customers when a deposit refund is requested. For this reason, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Not only do they do an amazing job at grooming my doggie (Ash), but they also let me know when there's abnormal findings like maybe a dry rash on his underbelly. I've taken my dog here a handful of times and all prior experiences were acceptable. However, on the last visit - my dog started to have "fly biting" episodes immediately after the last grooming. He was doing it while I was paying for the haircut. He has never done this before. He continued this strange behavior on and off, consistently, for weeks and would hide in dark corners or under things - another thing he would never do before. Today, about a month later, he had a full blown seizure and we'll need to take him in to the vet ASAP to figure out what's going on. Maybe it was pure coincidence, but it sounds like that behavior can be triggered by abuse and/or extremely stressful situations. Not sure what happened, but the timing was too coincidental for me not to be suspicious that he may have been mistreated or put into some kind of stressful situation that caused permanent trauma. He has never been the type to be anxious about being groomed, so that is definitely not the reason. If the vet finds an underlying physical issue, I will remove this review. Otherwise, this stays up in case anyone else has similar experiences to share. read more

Women are picky with who does their hair. Well I'm also picky on who touches my little fur baby angel. (Athena) Haha. For almost 2 years we took her to petsmart in Irvine, CA. All of the better places were close to 100$ for only wash and cut and too far so that was where we went. She was always sad and stressed to go, and the horror stories of dogs dying at pets mart always scared me. Cynthia the ONLY woman who handled her there was always great but that's beyond the point. I absolutely hated taking her there becauae of the environment and the caged dryers they use. Athena is very very timid and scared of EVERYTHING. We fostered her from a family that neglected her and hit her for the first 7 months of her life. So loud sounds or congestion of people or other dogs freaks her out. When we relocated to Chandler we swore we would find a independent salon where there won't be alot of dogs or people and where we know she will be treated with great care and attentiveness. My fiance started searching places and we love reviews so naturally Fur ń Purr came up. It seemed to be exactly what we were looking for. I called made an appointment and we took her in on a Friday morning! Walking in gave me alot of reassuring feelings cause only two dogs can be cut at a time! The women inside were super friendly and professional. We got all set up and she asked all about Athena and how we like her cut, I showed her pictures and what she looks like as far as the ideal cut we like. They kept her for about three hours which is so great and was actually going to be two but the dog before ran a little late. Petsmart use to keep my baby for seriously like 5 6 hours sometimes which is scary. We like to see how precise or not lazy people are when they cut her hair. Everything was perfect! Kimberly is the one who cut her, she did everything I asked perfect, not sloppy and the length wasn't excessive or choppy. She even did in between her paws! Which no one ever does. Her inner ears were perfect, her legs were all equal length and her tail was shaped so cute! She came out with little red bows in her hair and didn't seem ANYWHERE near as distressed as she use to be coming out of petsmart. I could not be more pleased with the first visit! I came in here because the ladies seem super nice and friendly and welcoming when I first entered. I can easily bring my dog to any commercialized groomer but I decided to go somewhere local to support small businesses. I will say before I speak about my not so great experience at the very end of my check out I will say overall the welcoming experience was wonderful the ladies at the front and the people who do you deal with the dogs are wonderful. I came in and asked a few questions they explained it to me they were able to help me figure out if my dog really needed a De- shedding. They explain to me why my dog was shedding so much. They even took extra time to make sure that the D shedding process was done correctly. My dog was also bit by another dog about three months ago and I gave him a warning that one side of his body is where a dog bit him and I gave them a clear warning. I explain to them also that he's really sensitive about how it's his paws and that he will cry when it comes up to his nails being trimmed. I gave them the warning and then went about to still trimming his nails which was admirable. they did charge me extra fees first things that I didn't know about outside and of the de shedding... but for the most part based off their explanation sounded like the right thing to do and it should've just been included in the D shedding process... (I ended up paying about $70) The not so great part of my entire experience was the timing. I dropped off my dog before noon went and grab lunch and told them that I would run errands and pick up kids during the process. They said the latest that they would be done would be two hours if not they would give me a call. They ended up calling me at 3 o'clock when the store closes at 3:30 after that there was a $25 fee that they didn't tell me about it. (The lady who contacted me was the owner and her name was Britney) Just to make sure everybody knows they called me at 3 o'clock when they wanted me there at 3:30 I was on the other side of Gilbert with traffic... I told them when they called me that there was no way I was going to be there by 3:30 if I was on the other side of Gilbert was traffic, they weren't cooperative or compromising... that is why I'm giving this place a three star. Because their lack of communication and their unprofessionalism when it comes up to time. Just a refresher I dropped off my dog before noon. read more

I called this morning to see if they had any openings today. They asked me if I could come in right now. Me and Loki, my cocker Spaniel, arrived at 8:30am and were greeted by a friendly staff. Brittany is the one I spoke with and she seemed to know how to cut a cockers hair. Other places I've been have not gotten it quite right. Finally at 1:30 I got the call that he was ready. It took longer than I wanted. Hopefully next time when I schedule an apt in advance, it won't take as long. Brittany did a fab job. She thinned his thick coat making it lighter and cooler for him, and easier for me to brush. His coat is so soft and she did pretty good blending the cuts. I didn't have a coupon but she used one to give him an oatmeal bath. That was sweet of her to do. She gave me coupons for the next time too. Typically his groomimg cost me $45. This place charged me $60. Ouch. I didn't see any advertised prices in the store. Though it is a bit higher, I am happy with his cut and the staff. When you find a good place, you stick with them. Had a good previous visit, but this is by far the worse haircut my dog has gotten by a groomer. My golden retriever's fur is all over the place.
