This review is a personal one! I live in Hawaii, while my dad is in South FL. For his birthday, I wanted to surprise him, and first thought of sending him a cake. I remembered that he's not really a dessert person and decided to instead send him something he'd really appreciate: some good Jamaican food. I called and spoke with them about my plan. I ordered oxtail, patties and passion fruit juice to be delivered to him at his business. I was worried, because it would be delivered while I was still asleep. Let me tell you! He not only received delicious food, he also got the sweetest handwritten note. I don't know how, but they knew exactly the right words to say. They made my dad cry :) That's the difference when you support the small, family-owned business. I love my Caribbean people, I love my JA people forever, because they understand family. It was too YUMMY & there was no pausing on first bite!!! The salt fish patty did not disappoint with TONS of "bacalao" for your tastebuds' pleasure! While visiting my cousin and after the Dolphins game on 4 Nov 18, she wanted to take me to this Caribbean bakery.. This spot is very authentic! I got (2) GinsingUp drinks I got 1 veggie patty, which was very good! It was filled with spinach and other seasonings.. You can tell it was homemade.. The crust was nice and buttery.. I got 1 salt fish patty that I saved and put in the fridge until 5 Nov 18.. To my surprise, when I got up and warmed it up for around 45 sec... It came out nice and buttery like the veggie the day before.. I was surprised because when you reheat fried food it never comes out food! Not the patties here, very good the next day! Food was so good, on the way back to Key West in the AM on 5 Nov 18, we stopped in again and got 2 more salt fish patties.. I would have gotten 3 total: 2- Saltfish 1- Veggie But they didn't have any veggie ones made yet, granted it was right when they opened up around 0930ish.. We found this little gem because of Hurricane Irma? Yep, this location was a donation dropped off center and I'm so glad to have found them. Their friendly and attentive staff had let us know that were was some Johnny cakes almost ready. We were especially ok with waiting for them and Man oh man I'm so glad we did. We ordered a curry chicken dinner with rice and peas, salad and plantains, some beef and saltfish patties, chicken soup and a guava and coconut tarte. I regretted not taking a pic of the curry and patties before the family inhaled it all but I managed to grab a shot of my soup. The flavors were amazing and my soup was filled to capacity with my favorite ......Island style dumplings. Need I say more? Friendly service and great prices. Food tasted fresh and the pineapple ginger juice was one of the best beverages to ever grace my lips. The plantains were an excellent portion and pretty good, I was warned ahead of my purchase that it was a pretty dry batch... which I appreciated, they weren't just all about the sell. The beef empanada was flaky and delicious and not too filling. I wouldn't normally stumble upon this spot but it was the perfect stop for a craving for a taste of the Caribbean. This is an amazing place. A little place in North Miami, but the food has big and bold flavors. I enjoyed my dinner and pineapple/coconut cake. So good and delicious. The oxtails dinner was fabulous. I went there January 30,2020 & ate Jerk pork from here. I had gotten Salmonella poisoning. I went to the hospital and I came back positive with salmonella. The same night we ate the food, my boyfriend had threw and up & I had diarrhea.... for 8 days & I was throwing up. Stay away from their jerk pork. Salmonella could be found in chicken as well. Well, there's not a lot that is fancy about Fancy Loaf! The shop is a little small, nothing too glamorous, long waits at times. But when it comes to yummy Caribbean food (specifically Small Islands and baked goods), ohhh Fancy Loaf is a winner! All sorts of breads, tarts, and lunch/dinner plates. Bad stale. cockroaches everywhere. I saw fruit flies and house flies crawling on the food. I saw employees children there coughing in in the food preparation area. Illegal distribution of alcohol being sold outside they don't ask for ID as well loud music being played outside outside of curfew. Not only do they break the law there food is complete shit. Rude employees. They where sickly and regularly coughing on there food. Could an undercover health inspector take care of this problem. I hadn't been to Fancy Loaf Bakery in more than a year but during that time I have craved some of the items I used to enjoy at least every other weekend. So I decided to make a trip there today. Much to my joy, they are still standing! AND their stay of delicious Caribbean options are just as wonderful! I've been craving salt fish and fungi (not the fungus, no!) for at least two weeks and let me just say that it hit the spot just right. The portion is huge, so I won't be needing anything else for today! Two scoops of fungi, a heap of saltfish, two pieces of green banana, and two pieces of very sweet ripe plantains. The price is reasonable!! In my mind, I was doing a happy dance the whole time I was eating! I could taste the coconut milk in every bite!
