Very cute little place that's perfect for a quick bite. Service is great and we loved the music :). I'll start by saying that I loved the coffee here - I got a cold brew with oat milk and I also tasted the red eye. Both were great! I got the "lox" bagel, my dad got the spanakopita, and my sister got the breakfast burrito. I was amazed at the lox flavor of the carrots and the bagel itself was very good too, but I found the ensemble a little too salty, especially with capers on top. But overall, very good and definitely tastes just like a lox bagel! My dad very much enjoyed the spanakopita. The burrito was also great, although more veggies would've been perfect - spinach, mushrooms, etc. especially since it's a vegan place. Overall, I'm a big fan! I have been searching for a delicious and authentic vegan cafe and am still on the look. I was very disappointed by the limited options and the muffin I did get was not very tasty, dry and ultimately I didn't want to finish it. This place is a cute little vegan spot in the Lakeview area. It's so small you could even miss it on the street walking past. The inside is super cute and I loved the aesthetic. Very small town coffee shop vibes. There was only one worker at the desk. They had a lot of pastries which is great to be able to have all those options. I had a dirty chai and a coffee cake. The chai was a 2/10 and the coffee cake was a solid 5/10. The coffee tasted bitter and I couldn't taste the chai at all and the texture of the coffee cake was way to squishy to me. The person I came with didn't like their spinacotta at all and didn't eat more than a bite. The shoot is a great concept and I loved the vibe but like most of the reviews say - it falls short in more ways than one. The food is good and creative, however the sanitation is a big concern. They do not follow proper food handling procedures. No gloves are worn and from what I could tell observing, do not wash hands often, nor could I see a hand washing sink. Almost all of the coffee mugs are chipped which is a huge liability. The staff is not personable, doesn't greet people as they are waiting. If they could tighten up their operations they would be a force to be reckoned with. Whoever is in charge of the and hosting the dinners is a genius. It's not often that a vegan restaurant has a talented chef that is constantly creating and coming up with new ideas. I love love love Fancy Plants! Everything I've ever had has been delicious! My fave would have to be the carrot lox! The flavor is so nostalgic to me. The chef there explained the whole process of making it and well the results speak for themselves. I also love their chocolate croissants especially in the morning when they have been recently baked. The cinnamon rolls?? Magical! They have a super cute outdoor area that my dog and I frequent. Absolutely incredible vegan baked goods. For my birthday I picked up slice of chocolate strawberry cake and we tried his cinnamon rolls, crumb cake and biscotti!!! Wow a gem!! This tiny little cafe packs a delicious (PLANT BASED) punch. We were looking for a tasty spot to stop at before we headed out of the city and this place did not disappoint! We were so impressed with how delicious this food was!! We ordered the Lox bagel which was soooo delicious and really filling- highly recommend 10/10. My boyfriend got the tofu wrap (breakfast burrito? Sorry can't entirely remember the name on the menu) and he gave it a 6.5/10. Good and filling but not the most amazing burrito. I've had the Reishi Chai multiple times and it always taste exactly the same, which is wonderful to me. The gluten free treats are delicious, the staff is super kind and very helpful. Visited the new vegan pace that opened up recently in Lakeview. Was pretty excited to try their menu offerings of a plant based restaurant. It's a very small space, maybe 5-7 tables.. When we walked in the door we were greeted by a nice young lady who was seated at a table making skewers of seitan balls & pineapple for the restaurant's catering business. When we walked up to the counter we were a bit confused b/c we weren't given a menu & the only items up on their dry erase board over the counter were coffee & tea drinks. There was no hello or welcome from a woman who came out from the kitchen. She barely made eye contact. She looked like a goth school girl. I've met many people into goth and some are very pleasant & some can be introverted & non social. Anyway, It was just "are you ready to order?" So, I asked if they serve any breakfast & she pointed out there is a small printed menu on their counter. After glancing through it I ordered the breakfast sandwich of vegan egg (Just Egg) & seitan in an English muffin. I also ordered a blueberry or cherry scone. The counter woman asked us "is that it?. I told her we're still ordering. My partner ordered something which appeared to be a quiche, Rishi Chi tea, & a glazed apple fritter. Again she asked, "is that it?" The bill came to $17 which seemed quite reasonable. My order came out in a few mins but the waitress/counter woman put my order in front of my partner along with the tea and apple fritter. Considering we were the only customers you would think she would get it right. No biggie. The sandwich was quite dry as they don't put any sauce on it whatsoever. I was at least expecting some vegan mayo or a mustard or ketchup...something. The scone was notably delicious. It was just the right amount of sweetness and moisture. I hate when they are dry & crumbly. I wish our main orders came out at the same time. It was another 5 mins till the other order arrived However...it was the wrong order. By this time I had already finish my small sandwich. BUT my partner was handed a breakfast burrito instead of the quiche looking breakfast item he ordered. We just accepted & he said it was good plus we didn't want to send it back & wait for another order and I would be done anyway after a few bites of my delicious scone. I would like to try it again for dinner but they really need service improvements, especially being a new restaurant. read more

Only giving 4 stars because the front door stays open, and they have lots of plants outside that attract bees, so there are lots of bees indoors too. I never leave reviews nor am I vegan, vegetarian, gluten free etc. BUT I love this place. The cold brew is smooth enough to drink black though there are a variety of dairy-free milks you can add which makes me really happy for no reason as again I'm not vegan. I also love the daily quiche and it truly doesn't matter which quiche your visit falls on because all I've tried are excellent. This is the perfect place to go for both days where you just need a "you" day to be alone with your thoughts and also for those days when you want to catch up with a friend but have a clear end time to your hangout. I say this but everyone is so nice they don't mind if you perch for a while (maybe don't mention this if a quick catch-up is your goal). I've been almost weekly since I discovered it and am already looking forward to returning. Don't miss out on this hidden gem. read more

While visiting Chicago we stopped by twice, in both occasions service was great. Highly recommend Fancy Plants, pastries are so delicious we tried the vanilla & red velvet cupcakes and took a portion of the coffee cake to go, all three a must try! We tried their breakfast burrito which is a perfect portion compared to the breakfast burritos in L.A. Their breakfast sandwich is really good as well. I'm super excited that Chicago now has an all vegan coffee shop! It's nice to know I can eat all the yummy treats here. Delicious Dark Matter coffee, Rishi chai and teas as well. A great vegan cafe and restaurant. They serve delicious Dark Matter coffee and fresh house made pastries and a few hot options. I had a red eye and a vegan chocolate chip cookie. Both were delicious. I didn't have a chance to try any of their larger food options, but by the looks of it they're great! Can't wait to come back again. A great spot to hang out and get some work done. Would love to see more places like this in the area. My only note is I wish they had more GF/non-"meat" options. I'm not a huge fan of meat substitutes. read more

I had the breakfast burrito which was not very tasty and had me wishing I was at home eating the tofu scramble I make. The pesto/sauce that came on the side was awful. We also ordered one donut, but when I checked the receipt that was emailed to me we were charged for two. I do not live in Chicago but visit on occasion. I will skip this place next time. read more

She definitely needs to pay more attention to customer satisfaction, friendliness in order to be a better cafe owner.
