Phenomenal coffee and vegan croissant. Will stop by on a whim if I'm in the neighborhood.

I had the breakfast burrito which was not very tasty and had me wishing I was at home eating the tofu scramble I make. The pesto/sauce that came on the side was awful. We also ordered one donut, but when I checked the receipt that was emailed to me we were charged for two. I do not live in Chicago but visit on occasion. I will skip this place next time. read more

The lady working (owning?) in the cafe has the worst attitude, enough to ruin your morning/day. She definitely needs to pay more attention to customer satisfaction, friendliness in order to be a better cafe owner. What a wonderful place. Loved the vibe of this cafe. The waitress was so kind, friendly, and immediately I felt comfortable at the cafe. I had the jackfruit crab cake which was so good! The employees seem to know everyone by name so they get regulars which in itself says more then my words. It's menus items are unique and all vegan! LOVE THIS PLACE! I've ordered pickup from Fancy Plants three times now and every time was an absolute delight. The standout meals for me were the to-go Burmese food (inspired by the AMAZING Burma Superstar) and the vegan burgers (one of the best veggie burgers I've had in my life- I hope become available again soon!). The quality of the food is excellent and I appreciate the care the owners and staff have taken during the covid-19 pandemic to keep everyone safe, while still making sure there were tons of great food options. We recently visited Fancy Plants Cafe for one of their special multi-coarse dinners. It was a vegan "see-food" feast. My husband and I are not vegan and loved every dish. Two of our favorites were the pickled "herring" eggplant and the lobster mushroom risotto. A third favorite was the delicious almond cake dessert. Had my first Dark Matter Coffee from here and it was delicious. Will definitely have to go back and try some of the food.

My husband and I were super excited to come here and try some new began food in the area. We got a bagel with all veggies, bagel and lox and a chocolate pop tart. We got our items to go. The service was very friendly and explained every pastry they had available which was nice. Unfortunately when we arrived home and tried our food, we found hair in 2 of our items, one in the bagel and lox and one in the icing in the pop tart. We were really saddened and frustrated by this, since we were excited but it also ruined our experience. We probably will not go again. read more

Hands down the best bagel I've ever had - everything bagel loaded with carrot lox. It's worth whatever price they ask. The almond feta and jalapeno scone is also great! Gonna have to come check out literally everything else on the menu. read more

I was craving a gourmet vegan breakfast sandwich and came across this place on Happy Cow with very good reviews. Everyone was talking about how good the croissant breakfast sandwich was, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did, IT WAS AMAZINGLY GOOD! You can tell they use fresh ingredients and that croissant... omg! So good!!! I guess I was so excited to try it that I forgot to take a picture of it! Lol. I Will be trying this place again to see what other vegan goodies they have in store. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I read a review that they are owned by the same people that own Kitchen17, if you haven't heard of them, try them! omg this place was amazing. the vegan lox bagel was to die for. the carrot lox was fantastic and the cashew cream cheese is the best vegan cream cheese i've ever had. the quiche was decadent and the coffee cake was huge and delicious. everything was very reasonably priced. i hope we are able to come back. read more

So at first i was disappointed at the lack of cafe options, but the food they did have was really good. The coffee was delicious. Then I tried the evening menu (you gotta sign up for their newsletter and sign up in advance. The spots do get filled fast) and it was Italian cheese (vegan of course) night. I've been wanting to try out Fancy Plants cafe for a while now. This week I saw their post for their Vegan Greek Feast for 2 special and decided to finally give them a try. It is SOOOOOOOO DELICIOUS!!! Absolutely everything tasted amazing and you can tell it's been made fresh and with quality ingredients. Even my boyfriend who is far from vegan, or vegetarian for that matter, LOVED it. I personally was probably most amazed by their vegan feta cheese. Although I've been eating mainly plant/vegan based for about 3yrs now, I'd still eat dairy based cheese because I wasn't convinced that vegan cheese was good. But that has now changed. Anyways, I highly recommend anyone (vegan/vegetarian or not) to try this place. You won't regret it. I'm already looking forward to their meal specials!!! read more

The staff was very friendly and discussed their plans to add a dinner menu and patio. FYI. They only serve what's in the case, so don't go in with your heart set on one particular item. I'm so happy I discovered this place! I went in today and the girl behind the counter was super friendly and definitely knew what she was talking about. I'm obsessed with finding new vegan cheeses and I'm so excited that Fancy Plants makes their own! She told me that they have offered vegan cheese making classes in the past and I would love to take a class! This place was good enough to prompt me to finally write my first Yelp review! I have a couple of vegetarian friends so am always on the lookout for places where they can eat more than one item on the menu. I am trying to cut back on meat too, but still enjoy an Au Cheval burger on occasion. I can safely say that I didn't miss meat one bit in this meal. I went for dinner with two friends on a Saturday evening, and the place was pretty empty. It is a little off the main drag and I think they only started serving dinner, but I am guessing this hidden gem will be filling up the seats at dinner soon. Service was amazing, I wish I could remember the name of our server, because she was great! As for food, everything we had was delicious (not just for vegan food, for food in general)! We got the Cauliflower Gratin, Arancini, Japanese Sweet Potato, Spanakopita, and Maitake Mushroom Pate. I liked the arancini and spanakopita the best, but my vegetarian friend said the cauliflower was her favorite. The mushroom pate tasted really meaty to me, but not really a ton of mushroom flavor. For dessert we got the poptart and chocolate chip cookie. The "poptart" was amazing, the pastry was flakey and the inside was perfectly gooey! Vegan desserts often fall short, but I will definitely be coming back for this one. The chocolate chip cookies were the only thing I wouldn't recommend, they just tasted a little off. I have tried a lot of fake meats over the years, and have found that well-prepared veggies are better than all the wannabe meat options out there. Fancy Plants Cafe has beautifully prepared veggies. They do use vegan cheese, which somehow seemed to have the melty/gooey consistency that usually vegan cheeses are lacking. I will be back to try more things, and have that poptart again! read more

i went the first day they were open and got a soy mocha (delicious, and i don't even usually like soy milk) and a bagel with veggie cream cheese, loaded with veggies. everything is appropriately priced, especially for chicago, and my bagel was amazing. i came back today and got a slice of spinach and tomato quiche, a cinnamon roll, a mocha, and a breakfast sandwich loaded with veggies for later. i wish i'd thought to ask for veggie cream cheese with the sandwich or that it came with it, but apart from that, everything was perfect. i love the plants in the café, and the employees/owners working have been very nice. i am so excited for an all-vegan café in this neighborhood and i'm delighted that it opened so close to me! read more

My boyfriend told me about this restaurant a couple months ago as he's extremely tapped into the restaurant scene and an avid supporter of small businesses. We were celebrating an anniversary so we thought it would be the perfect time to visit for dinner-- and I'm so glad we did! While this place just opened up; their level of customer connection & innovation is truly the best when it comes to Vegan restaurants in Chicago. I find in this city vegan restaurants are either super overpriced for not very filling food or very 'fast food' based...meaning not very health conscious. Fancy Plants is the perfect solution, as their meals are extremely flavorful and filling and you can walk away satisfied knowing that you've had a hearty meal with real ingredients that you can trust (and some unique ones too). As I myself am Vegan, my boyfriend is mostly vegetarian but always open to Vegan eating so it's nice when Vegan restaurants can cater to both camps-- and this place delivered! We had the Beet Tartar, Cauliflower Clay Pot, Roasted Japanese Sweet Potatoes and the Sunchoke Salad. HANDS DOWN the best thing we ate was the Sunchoke Salad, which was a big surprise for me as I'm typically not a big Sunchoke fan. The chef prepares this with smoked apples which sounds out there but they are cooked to perfection and almost take on a meaty-smoked flavor. I highly recommend, so SO good! The staff here takes service to a whole new level and makes you feel apart of their community (my boyfriend called ahead to make sure they had availability, and when we left they said goodbye to him by first name, so nice!!). Our server was absolutely hilarious, knowledgable and open to talking about the restaurants plans. She truly values her customers and she also asks & listens for feedback/ideas in a way that exemplifies her passion. I've heard great things about Fancy Plants Cafe for over a year now, and it's been on my list to get to. Shame on me for waiting that long! I attended the Italian Cheese Dinner last night and it was spectacular. For just $45 including tax and tip, it included 5 courses. To start, an incredible burrata with a really scrumptious homemade multi-grain and seed bread - I could have eaten 10 plates of this. Next was a risotto arinchini ball with cashew cheese and a basil marinara sauce, then the best salad I've ever had in my life, then a pasta dish that I also could have stuffed my face with, then a blueberry lemon cheesecake for dessert. I truly can't say enough superlatives about my experience at Fancy Plants Cafe. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I will be sure to go out of my way to go back again and again. I definitely recommend that all Chicagoland vegans check this place out - particularly the multi course weekend dinners - but this is also a place that you can bring your omni friends to and they will also have a great experience. What a welcome addition to the Chicago food scene!! read more
