This was our first trip to Sidon and we'll definitely be back. The ambiance was clean and pleasant…read more- enough style and decoration to be interesting, without being cluttered. Ordering takes place at the counter, so grab a menu there, make your choices and pay. You'll receive a number to take back to your table. Food was brought out in the proper order - appetizers, mains, and dessert, all when appropriate. The food was WONDERFUL(!), so flavorful, freshly prepared, really delicious. We had two wraps, lentil soup, a Lebanese burger, grape leaves, kibbe, and baklava. I would note only that the wraps (pita or lavash) were fairly thin, so grab an app or a side if that's your choice for a main. Lavash wraps are larger than pitas. It's a shame that they don't offer a falafel lavash wrap, but there are lots of other choices on the extensive menu. The clientele included lots of Arabic families, a wonderful testament to the excellent authentic food offered at Sidon. We also stopped into their market and found it to be a bustling place - large, clean, brightly lit, with tons of options and so many freshly-prepared foods. Staff were efficient and friendly. Prices are reasonable. Sidon is a great find!

Getting no bread or water, after repeated requests, across multiple visits seems like more than an oversight. It may be time for a break from Sidon.

This has become my favorite middle eastern deli/store in Toledo. The menu goes beyond the basic…read moreshawarma/hummus/falafel things to include offerings like braised lamb shanks, yogurt kibbe, a huge selection of meat and cheese pies, besides a number of "Americanized" choices. The chicken shawarma is excellent, nicely seared but still juicy. Salads have been very good, with strongly (but not too strongly) lemony dressings, Falafels are crisp on the outside, a little soggier than I'd like on the inside--not that that stopped me from scarfing them down! Hummus is about as good as you'll find. Good as the food is, the service can be a bit slow. The market side is small, doesn't have a huge selection, but still a solid representation of mediterranean cooking basics (and seriously...just how many brands of tahini do you need???). And it's clean! A very economical olive bar and well-stocked meat case are musts for a visit here. In the latter, you'll find a little bit of beef, a little bit of chicken, a little bit of goat, but a whole lotta lamb, everything from tongues to trotters, at far below supermarket prices. While I like to sample a variety of places, Muna is taking away my incentive to explore other middle eastern restaurants in Toledo. It's a pleasant rut to be stuck in.

Middle East Market has become my go-to stop. The store is great for all thing Middle Eastern…read morecuisine, but they also have a lot of other staples as well. A clean and bright store with a staff that is friendly and knowledgeable. Their deli has so many great ready to eat items (which is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.) Being that they sell halal meat, I have a higher confidence in the quality and I love that their butcher is always on staff. Produce is fresh with great variety ... I literally can't say enough good things about this place. Go check it out if you have not. And stop by Sidon next door before you go shopping for a great meal.

It's always fresh (they sell tons of it, so no worries about it being old), never oily, extremely smooth without any dominate flavors. It's simply amazing! they have amazing salads, falafel, kabobs, etc. They have fresh pita bread every day, a real treat! Oh, their kafta pies are outrageously great! Honestly, they're all great, but I love the kafta. Perfectly seasoned, perfect pastry, etc. If you want feta, they always have at least 3 choices, and the prices are better than anywhere else in Toledo. Their produce is usually great. Once in a while you'll get something that's a little older than you'd like, or it's lacking flavor, but produce is all natural, so these things can be hard to control. They have great shelf-stable things like olive oil, spices, grains, etc. They have a great olive bar, refrigerated/frozen items, nuts, dried fruits, etc. Need puff pastry or phyllo, no need to go anywhere else. My only quibble is one of the guys working behind the butcher counter isn't always that friendly. I try to wait until he's busy and then get served by one of his co-workers. The place is always spotless and it's in a very safe part of town! I can't recommend this place strongly enough to anyone who loves Middle Eastern food! OMG, I think I need to go there for lunch today!

We were…read morefrequent visitors of the Taiwanese restaurant next door, when we first saw that there was going to be a seemingly Middle-Eastern market opening next door. (BTW, I'm not sure what happened to the Taiwanese place next door, but they've been closed for a few weeks now. I'm still trying to figure out if it's temporary or permanent) Anyone who's dined out enough times in Toledo will more likely tell you Toledo weirdly -- I use the term affectionately -- has very good Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern cuisine. You get a wide variety of them, too, such as those of mom-n-pop markets that offer lunch menus, and you also get the nice, family-style sit-down restaurants too. Most of them are very good. Al Nur falls into the former category. What's interesting about them is that their grocery consist of Middle-Eastern, Pakistani and Indian items. And let me tell you, most of their items are VERY well-priced. I don't have much experience with Middle-Eastern groceries so I can't say much about them, but I'm certainly going to try them out (probably with my coworker's help) next time I'm in need of some ethnic groceries. First visit, I ordered their "mixed grill" lunch, which is their version of the kebab combo plate. Came with 3 different skewers of meat over bed of rice and a side salad. Chicken Tawook and (lamb, I believe) shawarma were excellent. Taste I was definitely widely used to. Beef kafta however, I have to mention, had a slightly different spice/seasoning to it. It reminded me of the taste of an Iraqi restaurant I visited in D.C. a few years ago. It was a place my family and my wife's sister's family tried, and I remember my wife was slightly put off by the very strong spice aroma the restaurant had. In my own experience, "Middle-Eastern" labeled places seem to have slightly stronger aroma than those that are labeled "Mediterranean." A quick research will show that it may be because of the availability and usage of different ingredients of spices in different regions. I have the privilege of working/having worked with people of different ethnic background, and I love consulting them about similarities and differences between them. This particular coworker who was born in Pakistan, but had many years of growing up in Kuwait, where his father worked, tells me beef at Al Nur reminds him of what he calls "authentic" Middle-Eastern food from his childhood. Of course, you'll find regions in the States where Middle-Easterners segregate, where you'll have access to their authenticity, but it's certainly not something that's viewed as widely available, IMO. I can tell you right now that it's not going to be for everyone, just like strong-spiced Indian/Pakistani food aren't. But those of us who have the palate for them, I think it's a treat that we now have another Middle-Eastern option in Al Nur. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go pick me up a couple sandwiches for dinner. I've been salivating for them this whole time I was writing about them.
