This is all I will say about my experience with Hashems. I bought the following items during my most recent visit: 2 lbs of 80/20 ground beef 2 lb whole chuck 1 lb of plain shawarma beef 2 whole chickens 4 boneless chicken thighs 1 jar of pickled cucumbers 1 bag of Arabic bread All for $59.59 I was so impressed by how little I paid for all this that when I brought it up to my cashier he reviewed my receipt to make sure he didn't forget to scan an item. I grew up practically across the street from here and wish they had been here when I was! So many delicious things to be found here, from a wide assortment of bulk spices and nuts, to some produce and an amazing meat and prepared food counter. All affordable and incredibly delicious. At my least visit I picked up a bulk bag of their Turkish pistachios (a favorite of my husband's), some shawarma spice, cinnamon bark, some guava juice, hummus, a container of toum, and a couple of pounds of their presliced and spiced raw shawarma chicken which I cooked up that night and kept in the fridge for adding to easy sandwiches and salads that week. Meat counter is always fresh and clean. However I bought tomatoes snd lemons on last visit - what a waste of money. The tomatoes were ice cold as if frozen and by morning all were mush. Lemons 4/$3.99 the peel is so tough and shriveled as if old. I couldn't see thru netting. So I'll still purchase other items but definitely won't waste any more money on vegetables or fruit products. read more

I was impressed by the selection and level of service I received. I was making hummus, so I needed some tahini paste and some sumac to sprinkle on top once done. I only had about 5 minutes before I needed to head to the airport to fly home. As soon as I walked in, an employee asked if I needed help. He helped me find the bulk sumac, explained the difference between my choices, then walked me to the tahini. The products and service were top notch and the prices were reasonable. I'm sure I'll stop by here the next time I'm in the area. read more

This place is pretty cool. I forgot how I heard of it, but it's been on my list of places to go to here recently, so I swung by today to check it out. It's a cute little Arabic Market with a little bit of everthing. Don't be intimidated by it's small size. It packs a mean punch! Walking in, it's a constant stream of people here to pick up goodies. They have a small but impressive selection of meats, cheeses, spices, and a meat counter to boot. Speaking of the meat counter, I think that's what drew me in. They have all kinds of prepared, ready to cook dinners that are preseasoned. Mostly chicken, but it actually looks good. I wasn't in the mood for chicken, so I worked my way down to the meat part. They have beef and steak shwarma which drew me in. I got a little bit of it to go to cook here at home. The place smells amazing, and they have a healthy variety of produce as well. Staff here is friendly and I believe it's family run. What I like about it is they also serve Halal meat. It's the exact same thing as Kosher in regards to standards of how food is raised and even killed. It's just the Arabic version of what I have eaten in the past. When I see a place serves Halal meat or whatnot, I know it's high quality. Which is why I bought the beef shwarma! Anyways, I had a blast here, just was hoping for a little bit more. Hard to read cooking instructions when it's only in Arabic, ya know? So I didn't buy everything I saw. My Arabic is rusty, yo. (just kidding, I can't speak Arabic.) Very pleased with this little market. After visiting the other Hashem's location in East Dearborn, we found a Groupon for this location and decided to check it out. My sister and mother were both extremely impressed with the range of spice and thought the prices for bulk spices were extremely reasonable. My sister, who just came back from an archaeological dig in Ethiopia, was very excited to see the Ethiopian coffee available to purchase. We also purchased some chicken breasts and some ground beef. The meat is ground while you wait and the chicken breasts were perhaps the leanest and most perfectly trimmed I've ever seen. We used the ground beef for burgers that very evening and they were excellent. Altogether, this store is a treasure I wish I had checked out a long time ago. We'll definitely be back soon. read more

Went here on a recommendation. Place is very spacious and clean. However I felt scammed. We got steak and asked for 3 lbs. They charged us for 3lbs. When we got home, we weighed it and it was actually two lbs. The steak was expensive and we got charged for a lb we didn't get. I went another time and asked for cleaned chicken. They charged me for the cleaned chicken and when I got home, I saw that it was not cleaned. Also, the meat looked/tasted old. Will not be going back. El-Sayed is much better. read more

Walking into this store is like stepping into a flavor wonderland. Immediately to the right of the entrance is a wall and racks of spices. The selection, quality and freshness of the spices here is wonderful. The color, texture and scent of the spices is a delight even while in the store, and even better when used at home. They carry single spices and blends in bulk and packaged. The blends range from traditional western ones like Montreal steak, italian, poultry to Middle Eastern blends for schwarma and biryani. Perhaps my favorite section of the store, the bulk dried nuts and seeds are delicious and varied. They have individual seeds and nuts for every taste and a wide range of roasted seed and nut blends at different flavor and price points. My most recent purchases were some kind of lemon flavored roasted squash seeds and a blend containing cashews, peanuts in different flavors, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, corn nuts, and a miscellany of other roasted goodness. Sometimes bulk seeds and nuts lose their crunch or become rancid, not these. They are fresh. They are crunchy. They are delicious. Other notable sections are teas and meat. They carry a lovely selection of teas and herbal tisanes along with different sweeteners and teapots. With the teapots are some other cookery items, including mortars and pestles. The store has an excellent meat counter with halal meats for many tastes, some pre-seasoned. The quality of the meat here is excellent, and the counter is incredibly clean and well-attended. Hashem's carries a solid range of other Middle Eastern grocery and deli items from hummus and cheeses to a well-appointed olive bar, frozen foods and bread. After filling up your basket, stop at the candy display in front of the cashier for a handful of individually packaged delights. The rose petal and sesame brittle is my favorite but the dried apricot with pistachios is a close second. These tiny treats are perfect to quench a sweet tooth without overdoing it. The staff here is knowledgable and very friendly. They have regular clientele that forms lines for the meat counter sometimes, but don't let that stop you from checking out this Dearborn Heights gem. read more

Hashems seems like the only place in the area to get some legit halal steaks. Already cut and ready to go. Everywhere else cuts them on the spot and they always look so messy. Looks like Hashems takes the time to cut them right. Steaks, wings, whole chickens etc. My last 4 trips for a meat run were at Hashems and haven't been disappointed. The Manager, Alex, really knows his stuff and is always helpful and respectful. His staff is also well trained and will help with any of your needs. If you love fresh nuts, coffee, spices and meat, this is the place to be. Been shopping at Hashems for years the always have the freshest products and great customer service as well. My favorite is there line of coffees they have more kinds than I could ever try at great prices. They have an onsite butcher and I've never been disappointed. They slice fresh meats and deli cheeses on the spot. They have great deli salads the Thai summer salad is my favorite but also have the old favorites like potato and macaroni salad. They also carry tons of cheeses, everything from halloummi to a blueberry vanilla goat cheese that I love. They have a full line of fresh produce, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables with some exotic items. I love their line of bulk spices, none of that bottled grocery store bs that other places sell. Fresh roasted nuts and seeds of all kinds, cashews, almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds and my favorite, mixed nuts of all kinds. Way to many types to list just trust me and dive right in. 3. Spices, spices and more spices! There is an entire wall of different types of spices from all over the world. They have whole and ground spices bulk, which I love because I save a lot of money vs buying the small bottles from the grocery store. They also have a lot of mixed spices for ribs, Italian cooking, steaks, chicken spice and lots of middle eastern mixed spices that they all blend in house. 4. I'm a coffee fanatic, Hashems carries a huge line of fresh roasted bulk coffees, everything from Turkish coffee to Hawaiian kona. They even have decaf Turkish and organic coffees! They grind it on the spot for you or u can take it home and grind it yourself. 5. Extremely fresh produce that is delivered daily. When they first opened I wasn't that impressed but the have stepped up their produce game. 6. Fine chocolates and sweets imported from all over the world. Hashem's is a little treasure I wish I had experienced sooner. I was looking for a specific product that really should not have been hard to find in someplace like Ann Arbor, but I was not having any luck locally. Someone suggested I try Hashem's. I made the long drive in the snow to check it out. From the outside, it looks very small, but the inside is full of delicious items ranging from tea and coffee to dried fruits and nuts to candy and pastries (I'm sure there is even more, but I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't take it all in). Despite the numerous items, the store was very orderly and clean, which I appreciated. The prices were also very fair and I got a lot of bang for my buck. The owner and another guy were both super helpful in finding items and also very generous in giving me several tea and candy samples. The owner suggested other items I might want and was genuinely interested in knowing what types of ethnic foods I usually buy so he can stock them in the store. Both gentlemen were very customer-service oriented. I have already told my friends and family about it and plan on a return trip soon! read more
