Update: I wish I could give this place a zero out of five stars.. my anc cracked on my index finger so I decided to remove all of the anc from my nails. Once removed, I noticed green spots on my fingernails. Turns out the salon is so dirty and they did such a terrible job they infected my nails with bacteria from their equipment. Luckily I am healthy and can fight it off with antibiotics because only my two ring fingers and right pinky has infection. So I used to love this place, but considering I ended up with an infection on my toe a week or so after I got my feet done here, I'll never be back. I also paid extra for almond shape ($5 a finger apparently) and just received rounded nails, for half of a manicure instead of the entire thing and they still didn't seem to give a crap, after I tried to talk to them directly, I've resorted to Yelp. I had an amazing spa experience today at Fantastic Nail at their Colonie location on Wolf Road. I have been to many walk in nail salons in the Colonie area and this is by far the absolute best! From the moment I walked in the door the employees couldn't have been more attentive and precise with both the gel manicure and spa pedicure I received. I was so relaxed and happy while getting pampered with a paraffin wax pedicure. My feet look and feel amazing. The massage chairs are wonderful and the selection of pedicures they offer are great. My gel manicure was expertly done by, Eva. They are even offering coupons that I found in the Clipper magazine this month. Run, don't walk to this spa haven, hidden along the front of Wolf Rd. I've been here a few times and usually have a decent experience, but this time was terrible. I will never understand why some nail techs file your nails (with the little machine - almost like a sander, not sure what it's called) and cuticles and then start painting your nails without cleaning off all the dead skin and dust first!! In my head I kept giving him the benefit of the doubt, they supposedly know what they're doing. Since my cuticles were just "sanded" and not pushed back, he easily got polish on my skin. Anyone who has ever gotten a gel manicure knows that polish on the cuticles will flake up as soon as your nail grows and get caught on everything. So frustrating! Unfortunately I couldn't even really tell what the manicure looked like until I got home and showered because it was still messy when I left. The paint job was incredibly messy, I could've done a better job at home and not have paid $30. I seriously can't believe they sent me on my way like this. And of course the polish is already flaking up (two days later) because he painted my skin. The only reason I'm giving a star at all is because the woman who did my eyebrow wax was quick and did a good job. At least I had a coupon so that was free. I'm done coming here for manicures though. So disappointing, not to mention they would probably charge me another $5 to remove the horrible manicure. read more

If I could have rated with fewer stars, I would have. While Fantastic Nails was relatively clean, I had the absolute worst manicure experience ever. The ANC process typically takes about 45 for a french...I was there over 90 minutes. I asked another employee if my manicurist was new to ANC and the employee became annoyed by my question. Whether he was new to ANC or not, my manicurist clearly did not care about the quality of the manicure. He made repeated mistakes, had to redo a couple nails multiple times and the finished look was still not good - uneven white tips, uneven surface, smudges. The manicurist next to me was bantering with her customer in the loudest and most inappropriate manner; making fun of the younger girls working at the spa and making vulgar jokes. It is a 50% off sale but it is NOT WORTH IT... They didn't let my friend do gel on her feet and when we finally got to a seat ... My feet were in cold water, the woman was gone for 20 minutes, and the towel by my feet was disgusting ... I think I deserve a clean towel. My nails look horrible and I had to ask her to repaint my toe nail 7 or 8 times until she finally caved in. My friend decided last minute to get her lip waxed. She asked for a clean stick and the woman refused. She also told the woman she has sensitive skin but this didn't matter, the woman continued to wax her lip multiple times and then when she was done, she sprayed her lip with ALCOHOL - she was screaming because it burned. The woman had no idea what was going on... she thought she grabbed the bottle that was water.. SUCH AN IDIOT I won't be back and I would NEVER pay full price here. The staff is very kind and hard working. They all aim to please. I have never had an anc manicure I did not like. They are willing to try my crazy pinterest finds. I dont hold them to it and allow them to change based on what they think they can do. I have been very pleased with all outcomes and my friends all rave about my nails. I do think they should wear name tags as I know I like certain technicians and would like to request them but never know the names. They need to have more staff at high volume times but when they dont they try to multitask to cover and work as team to make sure the experience is a good one. Again, I have never been disappointed. They are hard working and the massages are nice even if they are short, lol. I have been to other salons and this one seems to talk to you and tries to understand what the client wants. First nail salon I tried in the area when I moved to Clifton Park. I have left every time with great nails. Im obsessed with doing the ANC nails and love how long they last. Before moving here I had never Only issue I ever had was having to wait over an hour when I was told a 15 minute wait. The lady who did my nails continuously apologized which I appreciated. I had gone to get a pedicure and gel polish on my nails. It was crazy expensive but I was expecting that. What I wasn't expecting was that my nail polish would chip off in less than 4 days later. I have had gel before and it would last at least two weeks. Not 4 days!!! Do not waste your money here. I also had an eyebrow wax, they used an old stick that was sitting in the wax. I went here on August 15, 2012. I asked for a mani/pedi. I chose gel color for my manicure. The mani was not great - no hand cream, quick, cursory hand massage. I had to keep my hand under the lights for too long - much longer than I have ever had to for a gel manicure before, which made me nervous about overexposure. I would not get a manicure there again. Now I'll focus on the positive. The place is very nice looking. Bright colors, pretty lights, very roomy. The woman who greeted me was very friendly and welcoming. I received fantastic pedicure attention! It took over an hour- very thorough. The set-up for warm wax treatment ($8.00 extra) was not pleasing, awkward with extension cords and uncomfortable contortions to twist to get each foot into the paraffin dip. I was not impressed with it and won't pay the extra for that treatment there again. But the products used in the pedi, the callous treatment, the massage, hot stone massage, were all well and thoroughly done and were part of the base price. I have been going to Fantastic nail since it opened! I feel they do a great job. I have had acrylic and ANC and they do beautiful. Like any salon you can have a "bad" application and I have gone back and they ALWAYS have taken care of the issue. I think I've gone back twice in 2 years. I currently love the ANC and the choice of colors that they have is limitless. Wendi & Andy run a friendly salon. Another plus is I was in there on a Saturday night and they deep clean once a week extremely through, I was impressed with the cleaning. This salon allows underaged, non licensed people to work here. There was a child who started to do my toenails and I had her stop. They will do anything to be able to say yes to every person who walks in the door, including making you wait for over 45 minutes in the chair without warning and by putting you in danger by allowing a child to do your nails. read more

Very disappointing. Went with my sister who was visiting from out of town. We went online and pulled a coupon for 10% off each manicure. I had heard this place did nice work. WRONG! The manicurist pushed so hard on my sister's cuticle that she pulled the skin. My sister has had to use neosporene for a week already. I have so many hangnails because of the terrible job done on my cuticles. The nail polish started peeling the very next day. When it came to pay, we handed the coupon in and they only took $1.00 off the bill. The manicure was only $12.00 each but 10% of $12.00 is not $1.00 -- it is $1.20. It's a small amount but it's the principle. The manager came over and said they don't keep small change in the store. This was the worst experience that I've ever had at a nail salon. I went to get gel nails done, and they had to redo each finger about three times. The first time, the polish got too hot and it bubbled, the second time it happened again, and then the third time it was super uneven and looked terrible. There was nail polish all over my hands and in the nail beds, the clear polish was hardened under my fingernails, and they did not give me a manicure (cleaning the nails and skin around the nails), they only filed them. They were aware that they were doing a terrible job because they apologized but I was STILL charged full price, and I do not think I should have been. I was in there for an hour and a half, and it normally does not take that long. I was very upset and I am never going there again, unfortunately. read more

I was at Fantastic Nails in Clifton Park last Thursday, I received a polish change on my toes and had my anc redone. I noticed as the nail tech was doin my nails, he did not use the base that all the other techs have used previously when doin my anc. Two days later, one of my nails already chipped off on one corner. I went back in and they fixed it, no problem. However here it is two days later and 2 more have chipped and began breaking. I always gets 2-3 weeks out of my anc, and have never had this problem. And to add insult I was checking my checking account today, and I was charged $65, not $55 ($45 +$10 tip) that I signed for when I was there on Thursday! How is that even legal or possible?! Beware! I recently went to Fantastic Nail Spa for a gel manicure and pedicure. They have a promotion where all nail services are 1/2 off (until the end of April) so I immediately wanted to try it. The spa is SO NICE. It is contemporary and comfortable...unlike many other salons in the area that squeeze you in and it's very cramped. Spacious doesn't even begin to describe it. I am giving this review not based on my experience but my friend's. She had Helen and her gel mani came out amazing! I had a guy who 1. went for a dremel tool to file my nails and I *hate* that as it ruins my nails and they split. Also those drill files are a huge no-no for anything other than artificial nails! He filed my nails with a very gritty nail file and I was just as unhappy even though I asked for a buffer block. Helen used that with my friend. 2. I got OPI Ink (which is a dark color) and the color is uneven...it needed a 3rd coat. My pedicure was great! I will continue to go back to this place and ask for Helen. My friend's nails looked so good that it's hard to hold it against the business as a whole. Also they are all super friendly and are able to carry a conversation...it's not awkward silence. I came here with my mother to get pedicures, first time at the Clifton Park location.. and it was pretty much the worst pedis we've ever gotten. It was very rushed, not thorough enough, very sloppy with filing/clipping/and clipping cuticles- he barely did any of that which is part of your standard pedicure. When it came time for the polish, he was SO extremely sloppy with it, there was polish on my cuticles, it was too thick and sloppy. I had him redo it (he didn't speak English so it was hard to communicate) and even when it was redone, the polish was still too thick and smeared off by the time I got home. I tried this place for the first time with my sister and a friend after my sister had raved about the ANC nails. The salon was clean and we had an appointment and were taken back to the pedicure chairs as soon as we arrived. I had one woman start my pedicure and then about halfway through a guy took over and finished up my nails. I wasn't sure why they switched but he did a good job so I figured my nails would be just as soon. I decided to try the ANC nails and chose my color based on the nail samples that were available. My friend and I decided on the same color and as the guy started putting the color on my nails we both started questioning our color decision. The ANC powder was very light and looked barely there and my friend told her manicurist she wanted to switch colors and the woman allowed her to pick a new color no problem. When I asked my guy manicurist if I could add a coat of another color he started repeating were almost done over and over which made the situation really awkward. I understand we were a little further along but we were not finished and anytime I've gotten my nails done I've always been able to change if I wasn't happy because I'm the one paying. I gave up and kept the color I originally had after the guy made it clear he didn't want to change my color. In the future I would go back to get the ANC nails because I like how they feel but I would make sure I did not get that same guy again since he was just very rude. read more

This place is AWFUL! I came in to see what they were all about and saw that they were busy. I told the staff that I would make an appointment to come back, and they told me it would be a ten minute wait. So I wait for 55 minutes. I get to the table, and the guy starts on my nails. He's sitting next to the reception table and takes care of everyone calling and waiting - this place was far too busy to not have a receptionist. Needless to say, it took one hour and 35 minutes to do my nails. When leaving the salon, I noticed my nails were way too thin. That day, one of my nails break. Go back, they fix it. Two days later, the same nail along with another chip and one nail bends in half! Never have I ever been so disappointed. Yeah it was only 50% off but still a waste of my money and time. I will give it one thing - beautiful set up. Very spacious and modern. Other than that, I do not recommend this salon. Will never go back. Went today for a pedicure. Walked in, asked to pick out nail polish and have a seat. A woman walked in with her teenage daughter and got taken care of immediately. Figured they had an appt so I waited. Then another 3 women walked in, picked out their nail polish and went right to pedicure seat. No one said a word or acknowledged me. Was there for almost two hours getting a regular pedicure and gel French manicure. Most of the workers were of high school age and had no idea what they were doing. The young man who did my manicure didn't know he had to cure it with a gel uv and messed up the shape pretty terribly. I had to walk him through most of it until someone else thankfully took over. Nails are still sticky and bubbly. I used to be a regular customer there but their service has definitely gone downhill. To boot, I was overcharged. I don't think it's right to have young kids doing something people pay $70 and up for. You get what you pay for, guess I'll be going to actual spas for now on. read more

I have been to FNS before and had mediocre pedicures. My last time will be just that, my LAST time, and I left without getting it done. After walking in and not being greeted by ANY of the 6 employees working (!!!) I picked out my color and went to sit in the waiting area. I was not spoken to directly but halfheartedly beckoned with a wave to a pedi station where the employee sprayed scrubbing bubbles all over the tub, barely rinsed it and started filling it with cold water. She gestured for me to put my feet in and I asked her to please make the water warmer. She did not inquire about the water temp on her own. She then walked away, without turning the bubble spa on and left me to soak. I still had not been directly spoken to. After 30 minutes I took my feet out and crossed my legs in front of me on the towel. After another ten minutes, I got up and left. I will never go back. read more

I have given this place MORE than enough chances. TOO many in fact. My last visit I went in for a pedicure and ANC manicure. As soon as I saw the girl that was "assigned" to me I wanted to run because she's messed my nails up several times before. And each time I return to complain, the manager fixes the problem and CHARGES me again! And I still keep going back because the location is very convenient for me. After this, I do not think I will go back. My ANC manicure took over an hour to do, looked terrible, but it was after closing and I was exhausted. 2 days later, I already have 2 broken nails! Normally, IF the manager does my manicure, it can last 3 weeks without a scratch, but the same girl, Xenia, messes them up every time. They are sloppy, not enough coats (you can literally see through them) and breaks..... I just called to request an appointment with the manager. I've had two very good experiences at Fantastic Nail Spa (regular manicures both times). The space is modern, the equipment is new and clean and the service I received both times was really friendly and polite. I like how the pedicure area is kind of private and separated from the main area. For the price, it is a great deal. I will be going back to try the gel manicure. read more

This place is as pathetic as a business could be. Unfriendly from the time I walked in the door til I left. If it wasn't for the fact that my regular nail person was sick and the salon was closed would I have ever walked into this God awful place. The unhappiness on the faces of those who worked there was more than evident and the girl who did my nails had a terrible cold (there were at least six people working there, more in the back I'm sure, they kept coming out and going back in, so send the girl home for God's sake!!) They look at you as if you have six heads when you come in, no greeting, nothing. I will be amazed if this place lasts more than a couple more years. Once again...truly pathetic.
