I am full of so much gratitude for Josie and this salon, I could cry. In fact, I did cry tears of relief after getting home from this appointment... I came to Josie on Friday afternoon (8/7), after she graciously offered to work on detangling my 4 year old's hair. After a series of unfortunate events, my poor girl's hair wasn't just tangled anymore--It was MATTED. She had waist-length hair and most of it had gotten tangled up in this huge knot, very close to her scalp. I worked on it myself several times, but even detangling a small section was taking at least an hour. I was at a loss and it was getting worse every day. I reached out to several salons on Yelp and Fantastic Sams got back to me and said to bring her in--They would do their very best. When we came in, Josie assessed her hair and assured me she would do everything she could to tackle the matting. I have been carrying so much shame about letting my daughter's hair get to the point it was at, but Josie was so compassionate and not judgmental in the least. It was a long appointment. Josie and my little girl were both such troopers during the process. Josie took her time, was as gentle as possible, and came at the knots from several different angles. I was so worried she was going to say we had to chop it all off. But it was so close to her scalp, I figured she would be nearly bald if we went that route. My daughter desperately did not want her hair to be short. Josie assured me she would do her best to maintain as much length as possible. It was fun for no one, but my goodness was it WORTH IT. Josie was able to detangle ALL OF IT and maintained a good amount of length. And I can't emphasize enough what a huge task that was. I was so pleasantly surprised and SO relieved. My baby girl was ELATED when her hair was finished, and she absolutely loves it! She hasn't been able to stop touching it all day and was so excited to show her grandparents. I never thought I would end up at a Fantastic Sams, but what I heard was wrong. This place was great. I really needed a trim for a meeting and thought what is the worst that can happen so I went in without a reservation. I only had to wait 20 minutes and this great woman called me and washed my hair, have me the trim I really wanted and even used a great conditioner. She blew it out and it looked great. The place is clean and comfortable. The service from the front desk to the woman that did my hair was great. I could not be happier. Now, I rarely go to Pasadena for a haircut, but if I am ever near there I will be back there. The prices are super reasonable. It is a chain and this is a good one so try it sometime. Scheduled an appointment for 12 noon. Arrived around 11:55 am, checked in at the kiosk, no one spoke to me. Finally at 12:15 pm as they took back the third person who arrived after us I asked when we'd be seen and if the other people had an appointment all she said was her appointment is with me. Sure, I didn't select someone during the appointment process but I shouldn't have to, to have my appointment honored or be given any sort of positive customer service. By 12:30 we still haven't been seen, no additional conversation to me from anyone. If you're running behind fine but say something. Awful experience do not recommend if you want somewhere that respects your time, treats you at all positively or acknowledges you as a customer. Finally taken back to a chair at 12:35 pm, which means we're missing our 1 pm lunch reservations. Not a great haircut either. Asked for shaggy hair with layers. She paid no attention to the natural cox in the hair so the back looked a mess chunky weird and uneven. Sides a bit uneven- when I pointed out she went too short on the other side and I gave up. 3.5 stars to be exact. To keep this short and simple as possible. I was looking for a place to cut my hair.. it was getting way too long. So I dropped into FS with no appointment. They were super kind and asked me to check in. It was about 15-20 mins into my check in that they took me to cut my hair. The lady was super sweet. She asked what I wanted and I told her to shorten the top and just make it look good overall. She buzzed the sides, then took me over to shampoo my hair. While shampooing my hair she kept offering me products to buy, which I was not interested (I assume this is part of their job) but it was a bit irritating cause I just wanted a simple haircut). Then went back, put the top of my hair into a Mohawk shortened the top while holding my hair like a Mohawk down the middle and handed me the mirror as if she's done. I asked her if she could at least put some type of fade to the sides, she seemed like she didn't want to lol, but did it anyway. The whole haircut seemed pretty effortless. I've never had someone hold my hair up down the middle, cut it and be done. I was in and out in about 10-15 mins. I honestly don't like my haircut. I'll probably be fixing it at home. So my experience was not good with the actual haircut. BUT I would like to say that their customer service is great. Their store manager is very kind and attentive. The people who work there seem to be extremely kind. They seem to know what to do with all the women's hair that were there. I just personally didn't have a good experience. My dry bar appointment on Lake canceled my appointment because of a plumbing issue yesterday. My kids told me to try Yelp, so I searched for Pasadena blow dry. Yelp immediately gave me a few options. It's never a bad thing when your hair stylist is obsessed with how their work came out -- I haven't cut my hair in about two years (clearly), and I knew I needed a makeover. I found Josie's work here on Yelp, and when I called (same day) for an appt, she was available thankfully. I showed her pictures of the haircut I wanted and ideas for hair color, and she walked me through it all -- as we went along with the color process, she asked me what I wanted, and -- to make sure it was truly what I wanted -- she showed me color swatches of what she was envisioning to make sure it aligned with what I wanted (I really appreciated this because I was unsure of why would look good with my skin tone too). She also took the time to check in with me about the length of my haircut and would double- and triple-check her work as she dried it (another thing I loved because I have a horrible tendency to lean my head slightly to the right -- she noticed and make sure my hair was evened out). Overall, Josie's work was/is remarkable, and she was such a joy to talk with during the entire process. This place is always buzzing with loyal customers, and everyone (including me!) leaves looking fresh and seemingly happy and satisfied. Sometimes I make a same day appointment or just walk in.
