This place is a great place to get your hair needs. My hairdresser is Yolanda. I was looking for a new hairdresser and I'm glad that she took me in when I just did a walk-in one early Sunday several months ago. Ever since then, I only go to this place for my hair color(red). She also did my daughters color tips (blue)She is not only great at what she does but she is also very nice, caring, and has a great personality. Janet at the Sherman Oaks Fantastic Sam's is the best! I used to go to her in Studio City and switched to the Sherman Oaks location because of her. On my last visit I got blonde highlights, a haircut and a blow dry. The results of everything were exactly what I was going for. I really needed an all around change on my hair. Luckily I came across all the fantastic (no pun intended) reviews on this salon. Especially Tania. First off let me tell you that I have a LOT of hair that she had to deal with. Tania cut and styled it for me last week and it look AMAZING! Went into day for a much needed color. She did highlights and lowlights and it turned out better than I could ever imagined. She is a genius with both Color AND cuts. She does exactly what you ask. Emma, my stylist, did an excellent job and set my expectations right. I did my first full highlights years ago but got very frustrated because of how damaged my hair was and have never had any hair color since then. I decided to go with fantastic sams since it's the closest to where I live. And I called for an appointment mid-morning, and they booked me a spot in the next 30 mins. Tania Rios​​ at Fantastic Sams is a hair artist and unoffical chemist (board certified as well). I say unoffical chemist because she always has to custom make my hair color and none of her dye jobs come out of a box. Every client is custom mixed. I'm 50% Russian Jew & 50% Irish (dark frizzy hair w/red undertones and I'm turning gray) and other hair stylist struggle with covering my gray but toning down my brass. She has to use blue undertones to make my hair color dark but not brassy and then she has to specialize the peroxide mix to address my gray. You just can't get color like this from a box! I'm giving this place three stars because it's ridiculous to be charged an extra $8 for "long hair". I only had less than half an inch cut off for a small trim. I think you should be told up front if your hair does not meet the $22 posted haircut price. Pretty crazy to pay $30 plus tip for a mediocre hair wash and simple trim. Won't be going back. I have been to other hair places with my hair longer than it is now and never charged extra. What a shame I drove a bit out my way to try somewhere new. Bummer! read more

This morning after discovering that the Culver City Salon had closed, I drove to the Hawthorne salon and was VERY disappointed in discovering that there was only 1 stylist! I remembered that I had gone to the El Segundo salon many years ago, so I called to find out if they could take me right away for hair color and trim. The lady (Emma) on the phone asked me my name and I told her I was on my way. When I got there, Emma knew me from years ago. She is wonderful! She took care of my hair.... coloring and trimming. I made a mistake years ago not returning to that salon only because it was a bit far for me. I live in Ladera now and the drive is nothing. Emma is really good and I'm glad I went back to the El Segundo salon. My hair looks great! I'll be back always! read more

I read the reviews on yelp and called to get an appointment with Tania. She was unfortunately booked up that day so I booked a haircut with a girl name Krystle. My hair was SO dry and needed desperate attention. She was very sweet and gave me some tips to take care of my hair. Very much appreciated! Tania (who is one of the owners) came over to me while I was getting my haircut and introduced herself. She thanked me for giving their salon a try. It was my first visit there and I was pleasantly surprised by a complimentary hair treatment given to me by Tania. What a treat! My hair felt great after my cut and treatment! This review is for Fantastic Sams in El Segundo. I've been coming here for over 7 years now and they are the best! All the hair stylists do a great job, but lately Gail has been cutting my hair. She does an excellent job! She is very professional and attentive to my needs. When I go in, Gail welcomes me with a great big smile and remembers how I like my hair cut. The salon is always very clean and well stocked with supplies. Even with COVID, Fantastic Sams were able to provide great service while maintaining safety protocols. I hope I'm writing about the El Segundo location.. I'm not a barber shop dude.... my hair isn't all fancy... 56 thinning... etc... I won't post my hair there was a time that I could've rocked any current style... I've seen dudes walking out that do though... There are haircut mills .... IE Supercuts and every other Sams that I've been to. Gail ... she doesn't rush... takes her time... very friendly... if you can't talk to her ... you're even more awkward than me.. she's a very cool person. Does a great job .. the rest of the staff has that relaxed feeling as well... Whoever is the heart of this place understands that to slow down brings more return business and much higher tipping.. Many of these stylists could thrive in a much more pricey situation.. I've seen some of the higher end places... The hair isn't much better... The cucumber water rocks though.. read more

I've been to other Fantastic Sam's and there is a big difference with all the stylists as they have varying years of experience and specialize in different haircuts. So, I called this one asking who can cut short hair well. I have thick, straight hair and I like it short. I really like Jamila (pronounced Yamila) because she listened to what I wanted, but will also try to cut it the best way she knows how in order not to mess it up. I think she had been working at some higher end professional salons before working at this one which she works only 3 days a week. I've been wanting a reverse bob with a near pixie cut in the back. However, she really wanted to be careful so it's taken about 6 haircuts now for it to be as dramatic as I would like it. But, I'd rather her be careful than too gutsy. Overall, the staff here have been nice. They sometimes ask me if I want some water to drink. It is clean and it's near a sushi and frozen yogurt place that I sometimes go to after I get my haircut. read more

Taking a chance on a new hair dresser and hopeful for a great result. I clearly showed photos and where my hair had been highlighted from before as a guide. After the reveal of the first try my hair was reddish and dull. I was assured that if I came back later that they could apply another toner to lighten and improve the color. Didn't work. I was so disappointed, all I could think of was, this was an expensive gamble and I lost. Attending an important event in the next few days and I am now scrambling to find another colorist that knows what to do to create blond highlights and correct this ruddy mess. It is human error and a reminder that people hear but may not listen to what one says. A case of lost in translation or lack of experience I'm not sure which. And by the way if you're late for an appointment - that has nothing to do with the quality of hair color. It's just your work. read more

Very clean practices during Covid. I was taken right at the time of my appointment, and Dinora was really sweet. She listened and cut my hair exactly how I had asked. Easy and inexpensive. My boyfriend usually gets his hair cut by Lucy, who always does a solid job. I got my chin-length hair cut by Sofie today. I'm more of a quiet person so I love being paired with a stylist that lets me close my eyes and zone out. She gave me input on what would look best but also went with any preferences I had.
