Have been getting haircuts at different FS for years without prices changing at checkout. Been overcharged 2 times with Bayan or Bay @ Dezavala. She squeezed me in for a "wash & trim" -$27. She worked fast almost frantic. I reminded her 2x about the wash &;trim as II suddenly remembered the previous overcharge. Twice she said she wasn't going to charge (drying hair). Her final charge ~$42. we want honest & upfront people. Bayan also insinuated a bad previous haircut by asking if I cut my hair in back. Her cut was ok. I was a little nervous to go to Fantastic Sam's- or any hairdresser for that matter- after a botched color and cut last October from an Instagram stylist. After seeing the reviews, I went to see Bayan, or "Bay", and she gave me exactly what I wanted and then some. I requested a U-shaped cut with lots of layers in the back with face-framing, and she went above and beyond. As I am writing this review, I am still in awe at the fact that this is even my hair. I had low hopes coming to Fantastic Sam's because of the experiences I had in UT. BUT... My stylist did AMAZING!! I came in with hair down to my belly button, and didn't want to lose much length. I just wanted some weight taken off + layers. Olga went above and beyond! Before cutting any length off my hair, she made sure I was okay with it. She was extremely thorough and explained what kind of haircut would look best on me. She also thinned my bangs, that I ruined at home, with no judgment or scolding. Walked in for a kids cut/fade. The first thing we did ask the front desk , is there anyone here who can do a fade? The man up front said,"Someone will be right with you". We get "Amanda" who proceeds to take my child and it turns into a lesson in how to do a fade. She had to have the assistance of 2 stylist. I stopped before the cut was over. DO NOT SEAT A CLIENT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SKILL FOR SAID SERVICE! Respect clients and be honest. I am aware this isn't a barber shop but it's also not school! Not only did you waste my time, you wasted my money. I hope what I paid, you at least have the decency to give it to the stylist who did most of the work trying to clean up your mess. I just selected "any stylist" when I made my online appt and when I walked in I got Bayan, or "Bay" as she goes by...she was so nice and gave me pretty much exactly what I asked for, a medium length shag. Last time I got that kind of cut I went to a place literally called "Shag" and I wasn't all that happy with it, lol. Bay did a great job! Note to owner: these amazing and skilled stylists need more work space/surfaces, updated materials and equipment, to make their jobs easier. The fact that they are producing such great results in an inefficient and outdated work space just shows how truly talented the stylists at this location are. Ok so let me just cut to the chase for everyone and just say: BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT- book it with Bayan and then don't worry about a thing. I was there for well over 3 hours yesterday and had plenty of time to observe other stylists and customers. All 5 of the stylists that I was around were achieving great results for their clients and clients left BEAMING. They all seem to have a lot of regular/replete clients. Always a good sign. Here's my experience: my hair is naturally dark blonde. It was very long. The bottom half lightened quite a bit by Texas sun (and lemon, maybe some "sun-in" at some point I don't even know it's been years since I've done anything to it) the roots and top half of my hair (the newer growth) is the darker natural shade. Anyways .... It was ugly, brassy over grown, split ends etc.... I gave upon it. I have a lot of bad experiences with hair salons, high end salons or not. Often leaving feeling like I should have just left my hair the way it was, or do it myself. So I did that.... FOR YEARS. But I'm eloping with my best friend on Monday!!!! And it's also just time that I stop ignoring my hair. I needed to lift the darker blonde with a bunch of highlights, refresh the old "lemon and sun bleached blonde" to not be brassy and dull, and I also needed a new hair cut (hair thick and out grown down to my hips)... this kind of appointment was going to easily cost me anywhere from $400-$600+ and I knew that. So I started looking at Fantastic Sams reviews and searched them all up and down and sideways. This location has a lot of (recent) good reviews so I landed here. Then I found the stylist who had the most positive reviews mentioning them. Bayan. So I took my chances and booked with her. I'm SO GLAD that I did!!!! She sat me down, listened to my concerns, immediately knew exactly what she needed to do, communicated her vision to me perfectly and told me not to worry, my hair was going to be gorgeous. AND IT IS! So who is Bayan? Bayan is confident because she truly is a very skilled and experienced hair stylist, and it seems that she truly loves her job. She is also smart, friendly and kind. Results: She took my over grown dull brassy dishwater blonde hay-hair and turned it in to hair that is bright, light with dimension and no brass, it's healthy and alive. The cut is perfect for me too. I paid half of what it would cost anywhere else and got the best results ever! My fiancé loves it. I keep catching him looking at me and smiling and a lady at the grocery store asked me where I got my highlights done. I had made an appointment for 4:30pm, I walked in and the stylist came up to me and asked me if I could wait 15 mins. I should have gone with my gut and left because you could tell she was rushed and I didn't want a rushed job. I went in for a cut and online they advertise it's 39.99 well once she looked at my hair she was like it's going to be 49.99. Mind you I have thin, long hair. All I wanted was a trim. I was like ok whatever. So she washes my hair then we go back to the chair and she's brushing and yanking my hair hard. Then trims it. The trim was good but I didn't appreciate all the yanking. This morning I looked at my hair and I have a ton of flyaways from all the yanking she did. Then she went on to curl my hair without adding a heat protectant. I'm really disappointed because I had read really good reviews on Bay. I don't know if she did a rushed job because she was dying 2 other girls hairs. I'd rather pay more for better service and not feeling so rushed. I also don't appreciate that online they put one price and when you walk in it's another price. She said that the online price is for short hair. Not sure if you have to be bald to get that price. Will definitely not be coming back. read more

Back in May, I stepped into Fantastic Sams and met Bayan for the first time. I had fairly long hair and had been growing out my grey. I had the "line of demarcation" so I asked her recommendation. She took her time with me and to my surprise, we decided to chop it off to a very short style. She was an "artist" with all her tools and is so passionate about doing an excellent job and she excelled my expectations! I've been back to see her a few times since and will continue to come back. Booked a 3:45 appointment on line. Showed up at 3:35, was immediately told I was late - they thought I was the 3:30 appointment. After confirming I was the 3:45 appointment I was told they would be with me momentarily. At 3:55 they asked again about my appointment and unsaid it was at 3:45. Mandy, the Manager, now informs me I am not in their system (was confirmed when I first walked in as the 3:45 appt in their system). I showed Mandy the email confirmation and she states that their online reservation system wasn't updating their in store system. Sort of begs the question how reservations are being made - wouldn't most of them be from on line? Regardless, the 3:30 appointment showed at 3:40 and was allowed to keep his appointment- so here I sit at 4:10 with the guy that has the guy that has a 4:00 appointment. Next time, make the late guy wait, not the 2 punctual customers. read more

If I could rate 0 stars I would. When it was announced that hair salons were allowed to reopen, I went in search of a place that I could go in on Friday to get a cut and color. Their online appointment system allowed me to make an appointment at noon on 5/8. But when I showed up at noon I was told that the stylist I picked wasn't actually there and therefore I didn't actually have an appointment but they could fit me in the next day at 3pm. Great right? Well that night they called to confirm my appointment and I missed the call. I tried to call back the next morning but their voicemail isn't set up so I couldn't leave a message saying that I would be there. Once they opened, I called again and gave them my name and told them that I got a call to confirm my appointment and that I was just confirming that I would be there. I was then told that I don't have an appointment and that the person that put it into the system must not have done it right because that slot is gone and it wasn't mine. Then they tried to reschedule me which I said hell no - this was my SECOND attempt at an appointment, I'll just go somewhere else. How do you LOSE my appointment that I went IN PERSON to change because NO ONE could have called me before I went in expecting my hair to be cut and colored by a stylist that wasn't there??? And the kicker? I got a call at 3:03 from them saying that I had an appointment at 3pm and wanted to see if I was still going to come in. How about you train your employees on the appointment system and don't give customers the run around? So yes - 0 stars. I wasn't even able to get service. I'll wait and get my hair done somewhere else that doesn't have issues with setting appointments. read more

The sad part about Yelp reviews is that people use it to vent about things that they personally chose and later regretted - to ultimately blame it on a business or specific employee. Reading these reviews on the DeZavala location of Fantastic Sams shocks me. Especially the ones that are negative about Jennifer. I myself was very skeptical about getting my haircut and colored for less than $300. I'm a blonde and for whatever reason I think going to a high class salon will deliver the results I want. I had never left a San Antonio salon under $400 and I have always been told "I will get you to the blonde you want, it's a process though". It wasn't until an impulsive night after work that I decided I needed a trim and I didn't care where. I ended up in Jennifer's chair and it was the best random decision I've ever made. Let me tell you...this woman is far more talented and educated than anyone I've ever seen. Last night I left almost in tears because she got me to the absolute perfect platinum I've always wanted. My grow out was halfway down my hair shaft (pretty dark) and I left Platinum! The trick with her is if you show her a picture she will get you there so come prepared and show her what you want. She is honest and if it will take a couple colors she will save your hair before she delivers instant gratification. The difference though between her and others..I left 5 shades blonder every visit not disappointed. As a blonde in SA it's hard to find someone to deliver the results you want and expect. Alonzo at this Fantastic Sam's is the worst hairdressers I have been to in my life. I have never felt embarrassed, downgraded and berated by a stylist before. He was late to my appointment and then told me it was my fault. He was using profanity throughout my appointment. When I made a comment that I do not swear he said that is your choice but I like to say what's on my mind. I explained to Alonzo what I would like and ask him his opinion. He never did give me his opinion rather he did what he wanted to my hair. The layers were horrible and my face frame look like a child took scissors to my hair. I was going to have color done but decided against it. I do not go into a salon to hear gossip or to be treated as though I am nothing. I will never go back to a Fantastic Sam's again. Alonzo if you do get the chance to read my review my wish for you is that you learn manners, customer service skills, professionalism and how to interact with your customers. Jennifer is a terrible hairdresser and manager! My kids and I have been going to this salon for about a decade. I've been patient as our favorite hairdressers have moved on and dealt with numerous haircuts that weren't great until we would find another good one. I went two months ago and Jennifer cut my long curly hair into a bob. It took some tweaking and time. I wasn't really happy with the overall cut but thought she did a good job texturizing. I went back the earliest I could get in to get something fixed and was told it had to be within three days so I paid for a second haircut a week later. Went back to Jennifer now, two months later, because I thought my hair was almost what I wanted and I was very specific. Stacked asymmetrical bob with it at my hairline in the back. Take an inch off of bangs that I could tuck behind my ear as they were heavy and I wanted some body at the roots. She cut my "bob" over my ear on one side right off the bat. I didn't say anything because I am nice and damage was done already. The side I wanted to "TUCK" behind my ear is now cut above my ear. Then I lost the length on the other side when she texturized. Then she suddenly cut bangs up above my eyebrows in hair that I could tuck behind my ears. It is a short haircut with one funny piece hanging over one ear which she considers an asymmetrical bob. I went back the next day and just nicely said it wasn't really what I wanted and could she just cut the small section off to match the other side figuring I would just deal with growing it all out again. Jennifer proceeded to chew me out that my last haircut took an hour and a half and was actually three haircuts. Then said she did exactly what I asked for and I would have to pay for another haircut to get the small piece trimmed off as it constituted a different haircut. Tells you how close it was to a bob that one small piece made it a different haircut. She proceeded to explain to me that as a manager she has to make a profit and how can I expect them to spend so much time on one person for $15-$30. And that she has to justify it to her boss. She never mentioned any complaint to me before. I just had her texturize more, shorten a bit, etc. Typical things when getting a new style. She charged me for a long haircut but tweaking a couple things constituted three haircuts to her. This last time, I just asked for a haircut and she decided to wash and blow out and style and charge me double. I didn't complain about having to pay for a second haircut after she messed it up two months ago, gave her a second shot, didn't complain that she absolutely butchered my hair, didn't complain about paying more, just asked for her to fix the small piece that was supposedly making the haircut asymmetrical, but she proceeds to chew me out that my haircut took too long two months ago and wasn't even aware that I had to have someone else fix my hair and pay twice previously. I am a nice person, I have never even complained about a haircut. She butchered my hair and I still didn't complain, just asked for a small piece to be evened up and she took all her built up managerial frustrations out on me. In the end, she said someone could cut it for free but I can't expect it in the future. She screws my hair up and sets me back a year of growing it out and she is chewing me out. My hair is literally a pixie with a weird chunk over one ear. Told her no thanks, I will pay someone else to fix it and I won't be back or my kids. I hope that $15-$30 makes up for the loss of three customers business from over a decade! read more

I don't know how he even has a license to hold scissors. And no, he wasn't blind folded when he cut them either.
