My first review of this Fantastic Sams was I think my coming out of isolation. However that review holds up well -- what you get depends on who you get. Being a man I of course am not organized enough to find someone I like and track her down for subsequent visits. You probably ought to do that if you care about it much. Today I just looked like I was coming out of a cave. My caregiver whacked away with both scissors and buzzer, using techniques never before seen that involved ear trauma. When she was done it looked ok. As Dylan said, next time I see her, I better run. But I have had many nice experiences here. I would give a negative star if I could. The rudest establishment in entire San Diego would be an under statement. Very temperamental, moody, rude. I will NEVER go back there again. Not sure if all staff were rude but the one that I spoke to was extremely rude. The whole staff is super friendly and it's a great environment. As a guy, the price is very fair, I had been charged a lot more for a lot less service at other places. Today I called Fantastic Sams in San Carlos to see if they now took reservations and how much the cut would cost now we're past the pandemic. Maria was helpful. She said she could take a reservation, the cuts now cost $30, and that included a shampoo and conditioner. It turns out that Maria was also my stylist. She was terrific. I brought in a couple of pictures and she chose the one that would look best on me. She made sure I was OK with. how much she was going to cut off. Did a great job. My hair looks awesome. Thank you Fantastic Sam's for the very nice haircut you gave me. Stopped in on an early evening and was nicely greeted when I walked in. There was no wait so I was escorted to the back right after they put my info into the system. The stylist who cut my hair did just the way I like it with a short number #2 on the sides and back and about a 3/4 inch off the top. She was easy on my scalp and efficient. I asked for my shampoo after my cut given I like to wash all the loose cut hairs out of my scalp. Why does it feel so nice when someone else shampoos you hair? I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I was at this particular Fantastic Sam's. First of all the stylist was 10 minutes late. Next it took her more time to get her materials together so she's already 15 minutes into my time. I went in for a keratin treatment but then when I finally got in her chair,she accused me of not putting in the service booked online, even though the other stylist told her what I was getting. She rechecked and told me that she didn't have the express keratin product. She said all she had was the more expensive one. She more of my time calling around to different salons to see if they the product. Some did have it, but we're already booked up. So when I asked her to go ahead and put the other one in she refused and said that I was out of time because the treatment would take over two hours And she already had other showing up. I would not ever recommend this particular salon again. read more

I'm really sad to be leaving a review like this because my whole family has been going for about a year to this plan to get our haircuts here since everyone has always been so nice. Darlene is honestly the only person I can genuinely say is kind and offers quality service there now based off my last experience! The boys of my family usually get their hair cut with Hazil so my mom had my husband call in and make an appointment for both my younger brothers to have their haircut by her. He confirmed it was for two boys and she showed up. Once she was there hazil took one of the boys and another older lady tried taking my other brother. As I stated above we really like the way hazil cuts the boys hair so we don't really want anyone else doing it. My mom kindly declined and said she didn't want her to cut my brothers hair and would rather hazil do it. Immediately the older lady got snarky and rude with her because she didn't want her to cut it. She was trying to insist my mom have my brother cut his hair with her but my mom declined again and said she would wait for hazil. Hazil said at first she would take my brother but then says she was too booked which was confusing considering my husband booked for both the boys. Hazil then stated the booking was apparently only made for one of the boys and my mom could come back later for the other boy. So my mom said that was fine. I guess hazil didn't like that response because she then got rude with my mom as well and stated she would not be able to cut my brothers hair as she was booked for the next couple of days and if she wanted his hair cut he would have to go with the older woman. She didn't even check her bookings when making these comments so I'm not sure how she knew how booked she was if she previously said she wasn't. My mom ended up walking out and not getting either of the boys haircut there because this was a horrible experience for her. I've never had a bad experience with hazil but after this I don't think we'll ever be coming back. If we happen to come back it will only be for Darlene as she always listens to my needs and is kind when we come in! read more

I needed a major pandemic haircut but my regular barber wasn't able to accommodate me. I was in the area and saw this fantastic sams and just wanted to see if they accepted walk-ins. There were no signs mentioning this and I couldn't find information on their website so in I went. I left without that knowledge because nobody was there to greet me, even after standing for seriously one minute. The store wasn't empty. There were five people inside, a stylist cutting hair, the recipient of the haircut, a lady getting her hair dried, and two women talking about ones hair color. It didn't seem so hectic that one of these people could've taken a few seconds to say "we'll be right with you". The stylist had her back turned and didn't see me, but I know the women discussing hair color could see me (I'm not difficult to spot) and I'm assuming one was a stylist as well. Why only have one stylist with four customers to service? Again, it doesn't take a lot of time to say "we'll be right with you" or even "sorry, appointments only". I worked retail customer service for years, I know from experience. Instead, this group left me wanting a still much needed pandemic haircut. Tl;dr: customer service needs to be worked on at this establishment. Greet customers nicely if even to tell them they can't accommodate haircuts at that time. read more

Sad to report this Fantastic Sam At Navajo I make an appointment for 2 pm today, The lady that help me seem friendly, I had an appointment for the 10 foils promotion she put me under the Fan/Dryer for 15 minutes and Stop then she check the foil like 30 min later then she said you need longer time ,! I saw her doing 2 more peoples hair the first one hair washed, hair cut and braided her hair. the second come in at 3:20 she wash the hair , hair cut them blow dryer and I'm still seating with my foils and she touch up my roots! She finish at almost 4 pm My hair and scalp burns my scalp is burning , she burn my hair with the foils with bleach Over processed. And my scalp forehead stain and burn around my face red/ dark from the chemical. im Gonna call the manager first thing in the morning. Very disappointed I told her I dont like my hair it's burn breaking falling and she told me it's normal do not touch or pull the hair. The color is light white/ no color. She told me they closing I would need to come back on Wednesday when she's there!!!! Service is terrible after that quarantine and opening back up. They messed up my appointment after I confirmed over the phone. I was told I only could only used my groupon on my phone and not that printed version. It says on the printed version I have two options... You can't even make an appointment until a week before you want it. and then nothing may not be available . No wonder the stylist that I used to go to is no longer there. I have been coming here to see Nicole Williams for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. She is amazing she cutes, color, and styles my hair. I like to look a certain way and she is so great with listening to my demands and making it happen. I currently have to go in every couple weeks because I have purple and it needs to be touched up regularly.
