A year round ice skating rink where anyone - at any skill level - can skate? This is the place!!!! I can't tell you how many times my kids have asked me to go ice skating.... And I kept telling them that ice skating was a "holiday event." Finally got called on my **** and Google came to the rescue. We have now gone 3 weekends in a row! $20 to skate. $10 for the thing that they lean on to skate... $5 for skates. Be warned: it's cold! It's a good hockey practice place and it has a treadmill for hockey players too it's a crazy place!

The ice is not always even especially along the walls. The employees there are amazing though! My 3 favorite's are Fred, Courtney, and Coach Christian. Fred is super nice, and is so generous. Courtney is super nice and always down to have a conversation. Coach Christian is the best coach you can get there. He is so nice, and always puts the kids first. read more

"manager Jenn". I had the most disgusting exchange with her when trying to figure out getting a learn to play student to class. Jenn started our interaction with the full nine: ignoring, eye rolling , heavy breathing towards and questions I had, slamming things around, and speaking with such an utter disgust to have to do any type of work. I was able to making a few calls ,asking someone who doesn't work here, therefore relaying the message to Jenn which only seemed to irritate her more. After jenn finished mimicking and taunting in front of the kid I brought to class jenn decided it was a great idea to snatch my atm card and after asking for a receipt she declined to give it at first furthering the difficulty of my first experience at ice town Carlsbad. In all. Slammed with attitude and disrespect for interrupting her from sitting in her ass doing nothing. I am truly disheartened that this isn't the level of management Ice town Carlsbad represents. I took private figure skating lessons here during open skate sessions before/during the time they raised prices to almost double. I had my own skates but pricing included skates whether you needed them or not. Every week I came for a lesson the open skating admission prices rose higher and higher. I finally had enough and quit lessons all together. The rink is always packed and smaller than any other rink I've skated in. Lessons were difficult because hoards of kids and teens were flopping around the ice, blades flying, hands grabbing everyone and everywhere for support. It's dangerous. The ice was always in bad shape too. I might return one day only due to proximity. But they have a long way to go to impress and retain the locals. read more

Nice experience, it was well run, we quickly got in for free skating time. We were given rental skates and then off to the fun time. They gave our kids the little plastic walkers and by the time free skates was over they basically knew how to skate. Super fun family bonding activity and the fact it's here in Carlsbad is great. I come here multiple times a week for private lessons. Its great! Its pretty easy to find located in a business park in Carlsbad. They have their own parking lot so should be easy to locat and park. The staff at the front desk is awesome and knowledgeable. The private coaches are well trained and super knowledgeable. We work with miss Collene and I can't say enough good things about here. CHECK THE SCHEDULE BEFORE YOU GO! They only have free skate for a few hours a day so do make sure to check the schedule before you go. This location also runs camps and other child friendly activities. So definitely something to look into. The facilities are always clean and well taken care of. Their are many bathrooms and even a warm room. Basically, ice Town is where its at! I would definitely suggest checking it out if you haven't already. read more

I threw my daughters bday party here. The only positive thing was that it was easy to book. However, the day off was completely chaotic. I checked in 15 minutes early to get the room decorated. I've never been to this rink before and I was shockingly surprised at how freezing this one was! And so were all my guests! Everyone wore light sweaters and jackets not thinking it was going to be an ice box! Wish the party contact, Jennifer would've gave us a heads up during our email thread. We also didn't have a host or point of contact with questions. I had to add additional ice skaters for the first 30 minutes because everyone was trickling in and it was kind of upsetting that I had to wait in the general line for this. Each time took a few minutes, but those few times took away from me being part of my daughter's party. No one ever came to check on us. No one made an announcement to come back to the room when it was time for cake. My husband had to gather everyone in. I did hear another party happening and I did hear their announcement. Just felt like they took my money (and it was expensive) and let us figure it out. No organization. I wouldn't recommend booking a party here. It was disappointing, especially for the price we paid! read more

This is the worst run ice rink I've ever seen. They never answer the phone so it's difficult to reserve a spot for pickup. They constantly lose the reservations for pickup hockey after you spend all week calling them trying to get someone on the phone to make a reservation. When you drive all the way over there only to find out you can't play they don't care and give you an attitude for their mistakes. The ice is the worst I've ever seen. There are ponds in Phoenix that have better ice in August. There are dips and ruts everywhere so you can never go into the corners without breaking your leg and on top of all that you get to pay a premium price for this garbage. Other rinks are further for me mileage wise but the same travel time due to highways. I'm done with this place. They don't even have a snack bar. What does that tell you? read more

I have some mixed feelings about this place. Let's start with the positive. The skates are very new and modern--buckles instead of laces. And nice, sharp blades. The ice is in good shape, too. And they have more public skate times than other rinks which is really nice. Parking is free although the lot fills up quickly. There's street parking and I'm guessing the neighboring tenants don't mind if you use their lots on weekends (but don't come looking at me when your car gets towed). But it's strictly no-frills. The music was intermittent and I even heard commercials which they either piped in on purpose or else we were listening to some satellite or net-based music service with commercials. Come on, guys. And there was one stretch of about 10 minutes when there was no music playing at all. Again, this is a small, easy thing but it requires attention to detail. And there is no fun stuff for the kids like at San Diego Ice Arena where they do dances and have a DJ and turn out the lights and display colored lights and such. In fact, at SD Ice Arena, they even blast music and have the kids do the YMCA dance during the downtime when the Zamboni is on the ice. There's none of that here. Oh, and fair warning: it is VERY cold inside. That's fine with me--it is an ice rink, after all--but I would definitely recommend gloves, at the very least. Not all rinks are this cold. This is a fine place to ice skate but it could definitely do more, at probably minimal cost and effort, to make it a little more fun, especially for the kids (and there were a ton of kids around). At the very least, keep the music going during the entire public skate session, including the Zamboni downtime. read more

It was a rainy, crowded Saturday but a special shoutout to Riker and Cassidy staff members, they were very helpful and made things easier. My experience here was so bad that I can't stop thinking about how terribly this business is run and how embarrassing it is to have even gone there. This place is dark and grimy. Their equipment is so awful it's dangerous to use. My 3-year-old attempted to use one of their walkers for skating and I had to go through 3 before I found one merely level. The design is so flimsy and pathetic it actually harmed her rather than helped her. We were on the ice for 2 minutes before I knew that this was not a safe place for my daughter. I told them what happened and asked for a refund and they refused to accommodate me, even though we were physically unable to use the rink. They had the audacity to offer free admission passes instead of a refund, as if we would want to come back after the first disappointing experience. The receptionist was so rude and robotic, she even gave me a fake email when I asked to talk to management. It blows my mind that such a trash place can get away with existing in Carlsbad. They make no effort to provide decent equipment and when a child can't use it, they pocket the money and shrug, like it's not their problem. I'm embarrassed for who ever owns this place, not only is it gloomy and grimy inside, but their practices are straight up unethical. I have been to other ice rinks and have had a great time with my daughter. Never have seen a place like this before. I'm still cringing. read more

We arrived 30 minutes early. Spent over an hour in the line for them to tell us when we got to the front at 7:30 that they didn't have sizes 6, 7, 8 in women's and 9-11 in men. Sounds like they need to suck it up and order half sizes. They also could have made an announcement as we were waiting outside in the rain. My 4-year-old started daughter expressing interest in figure skating so we started taking her here every weekend during free skate hours. The first visit, we rented skates, myself included and I have to say...those hockey skates are not comfortable. I didn't last the full 2 hours and ended up buying myself and our little one figure skates since she still expressed interest after her first couple sessions. Best decision because they've already paid for themselves. If you're planning a visit, I'd recommend bringing VERY warm clothes. This is not a rink you can come to with just a sweater. IT IS COLD! Especially if you're a spectator. You'll freeze. I've come a dozen or so times where I've just watched and had to resort to getting Cup Noodle (gross!) at the snack bar because I was just frozen and needed something to warm me up. I've since learned my lesson and now come wearing a down jacket, gloves, uggs and a scarf--and even then, sometimes I'm still cold. lol You've been warned. ; ) The ice is in really good condition. We've been to UTC as well because they had better and more fun trainers for the little one (fun dolphins rather than janky PVC pipes these guys have) and you can really see and feel the difference in the ice. That much, I appreciate very much. If you rent a trainer for new skaters, there is a section coned off for them. This doesn't prevent faster skaters from entering but for the most part, they have their own section. It helped build my daughter's confidence and now she's going round and round on her own. Regarding the trainers, I wish they simply had their trainers numbered so you know which one(s) are assigned to you. We've had so many issues with people taking off with our trainer when we wanted to go around without her using it and we'd come back around and it would be MIA. Getting it back required someone from the skate shop to come out onto the ice to check people's stickers to make sure they indeed rented it. Its a pain in the butt but thankfully we are done with renting those. TIP: If you rent a trainer, hang on to it or you'll risk losing it! The one thing I think is a HUGE disadvantage for this rink is that there is very little spectator seating. I think there are 3-4 high benches along the glass but that's it. If it's busy, it's unlikely you'll get a seat unless you're ok with the short benches where it will be impossible to spectate. I brought my 93-year-old Grandmother to watch my daughter and she could not even get up on the high benches to watch so she had to stand--which, at 93 is very hard for her to do for long. I warned her of this in advance but she wanted to see her Great Granddaughter skate. This overall is a great rink and we're happy to have this nearby. If they made improvements in the seating and a few minor changes, they would be a 5-star rink. read more

My GPS got me here, but boy this place is tucked away back in the middle of nowhere! What a little gem that I never knew was here! I have lived just a few miles away for like a decade (and that's what everyone else I talked to also said)! They were great at getting the kids on and off the ice quickly - they had a great sticker system that worked really well. I'm not sure about the cost, as I was just there with friends and it was their child who was there for hockey camp. I'll say they were raving about it though, and from what I saw of the coach, he was doing a great job with the kids. The parking lot was packed and there was only one entrance, so it was a bit of a mess - not big enough for the crowd, and it was only Thursday at 4pm. Kids were darting in front of my car - watch out - eek. Seems like a great place and worth going, so def check it out!!! read more

My son has been asking me to play ice hockey for months. Living in Southern California, you wonder, where can one find an ice skating rink around here that isn't attached to a bustling mall? A little bit of research later and you can find this rink in Carlsbad! They're definitely sports-minded here. It feels like their public skate hours are more limited than those aforementioned mall-situated rinks. Totally the location you'd want to look into for the hockey player or ice skater! My son recently started participating in the Learn to Play Hockey program hosted by the San Diego Gulls at Icetown. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn how to skate and how to play the sport. It's just a few weeks long, one day a week, and if they choose to play hockey thereafter that's on mom and dad. That being said, the program is free all but a deposit placed on the equipment that is loaned out to your child. So far, 2 weeks in, my son is loving it and thus, so am I! Icetown's cafe, situated near the back end of the rink, is a great feature for the shivering mom and toddler sibling spectators! Had a Mexican cocoa on my first trip to the cafe and was actually quite pleased with it (married into a Mexican family and know the legit stuff from the overly commercialized stuff). The staff has been nothing but friendly and my family enjoys our time spent here. read more

I met up with a group of friends on Friday night to check out the ice rink in Carlsbad and was left feeling a bit underwhelmed. Perhaps I'm just spoiled after visiting the beautiful Coronado outdoor rink last winter but there was nothing special about this rink. Although it's $10 less than Coronado ($15 v. $25), I think I'd rather pay the extra money to enjoy the beautiful scenery too. The location seemed odd and I questioned where my GPS was taking me too as I wound through the side streets surrounded by warehouses and industrial buildings. I was happy to see the ice rink emerge from the darkness. It was very cold inside and I definitely didn't dress warmly enough. I usually find that I'm dressed too warm for ice skating rinks and end up shedding layers but that was not the case here. It was so cold that my ears actually started to ache. The ice was choppy and definitely could have been smoothed out. We were amazed that we didn't fall on the bumpy ice. The ice skates were uncomfortable and something in my right boot kept poking at the side of my foot. I probably skated around about 10 or so times before I decided to take a break. Shortly after, all the other girls had enough as well and we ended up leaving about 45 minutes before the open skate time ended. read more
