UPDATED REVIEW: Changed my review from ONE star to FOUR stars. The last time I was there, I got the most absolutely mediocre deep tissue massage I've ever had. It barely even qualified as a Swedish massage. I sincerely hope they have spoken with that specific therapist on the matter. That being said, the manager felt bad that I did not enjoy my experience and comped my next massage, which was done by a different therapist, named Lisa, who was extremely strong, extremely versed & extremely professional. I will absolutely be returning and specifically asking for Lisa again. Lisa was able to deliver the kind of hard deep tissue massage that I was looking to get; The kind that is physically painful, and that leaves you sore afterwards. Call me a masochist. No pain, no gain. I did specifically ask for Ashiatsu (Walking on back), but that was not included last time, or I would have left five stars with this review. I will happily update it to five stars if Ashiatsu is performed on my next visit. I appreciate the manager making things right, and wishing to retain my business, since with only two visits to the location and one of them being lackluster, my loyalty WAS in question. I've been here several times and always walked out happy except for this last one. My lady just wasn't as good as the other ladies and a gent that previously gave me massages. She kept going the same muscle and was not able to find any of the sore muscles that I walked in with. And I was in pain when I walked in! It must be standard these days to pay first and ask for the tip later. The first thing, I noticed was all the chatter like girls in high school . It seemed there doing a massage was the 2nd thing that mattered. I finally told my person to stop talking as it really bothered my experience. She stopped talking and then started whispering. The other people carried on as if nothing is wrong. Secondly in all other places, you get a basket for your stuff not here. Thirdly, when I went to express my concern on the noise after the massage, she had to call someone else who spoke English. Fourth, usually I am asked about any areas to be concerned. She didn't ask and once she touched it and I spoke up and said that hurts. I said less pressure and she just avoided the area. The massage was decent, but all the other issues were a major concern. She then asked for a tip as she tried to get me to leave . I happen to be a Communication Studies instructor and worked with a lot of English as 2nd language students. I made an appointment with Angela today, but she wasn't there. I called in the morning at 10:00 am, and my appointment was at 6:00 pm. One woman picked up the phone and she said Angela was working today. But Angela wasn't there when I arrived. I felt just down and I had someone else do it, but I didn't like it, her hand was super gentle and she has no power. Her name is Coco. I didn't feel anything. I felt just nothing. I booked an appointment for my mother in law on 11/22 at 3pm. When she arrived they didn't have her name written down for her appointment and kept saying they didn't have anything. My mother in law said it smelled like McDonald's and the towels weren't that fresh. I got her the most expensive one and says it "includes stones" they never gave her that. When she went back to ask about it they said that the lady was new and didn't know. YOU LADIES WORK THERE! How do you not know? To top it off the massage wasn't great. they were rough and only massaged her back. Horrible horrible place. To top it off THEY KEPT ON INSISTING ON TIP! Avoid this place at all costs not worth it. Brought my boyfriend to this location after calling in an appt. and upon arrival,they sent us across the street to the new location because they were so busy. As we arrived, the guy I got was stuffing his face with church's chicken. He set up my massage area with his greasy fingers and sat down, waiting for me to lay down to start my massage. When I asked him to wash his hands, he was bothered by my request. During my massage he stopped several times to help other walk in customers and at one point took a 10 min call, which the whole building could hear because they have no private rooms. The curtains that separate each massage section, are very loud when they're being opened and closed. They also have big gaps, that make it uncomfortable to undress with others walking past your section. I am 5FT, 130 lbs, not very big and he was crushing me with his entire body weight. Even when I asked him to not be so rough, he continued to apply extreme pressure to my body. I was not able to enjoy this massage at all! The cherry on top, was when it was time to pay. Typically your able to tip with your transaction, but not at this location. He requested cash, which I never carry and when my boyfriend tipped them $5.00 each, he demanded more. Instead, I was given a male masseur. He was good but I was a bit tense because he is male, however, he was professional. - Private rooms but open ceilings allowed me to hear all the workers talking, cleaning, and street noises when the front door opened (also letting in a ton of light, disturbing the peacefulness). - The music was very low and seemed very distant since it is an open ceiling room. - They seem very cheap on oil. Many times, it was dry skin on skin and a bit painful. - They only give you a medium sized towel to cover yourself instead of a full sheet like most places. I told her I had my card locked to give me a second to unlock it before I pay. (I was paying up front which I never do) and she didn't listen, ran it and of course declined. I asked her to do it again. She then shows me something that says "pin cancelled" and I tell her she cancelled the pin, she had to try again. And she said she knew but it was frozen. Finally she canceled it, and I told her she was probably pressing the wrong button. She told me to go to Wells Fargo atm but my card isn't a Wells Fargo account. My husband and I decided to try this place out since we typically get massages together. Since the moment we entered they treated us poorly. They spoke little to none English and would point to what to do expecting us to know what they wanted. We paid for the highest price massage combo. We were sat into chairs where we would remove our shoes. Once both my husband and I removed our shoes they immediately started to laugh and speak in their language. It was so obvious that they we're taking about us with us even knowing what they are saying. We were already disturbed but maintained the peace. After the what is considered a "foot massage" we were moved to a private room. I decide to advise my masseuse that I am 4 months pregnant and can't lay on my stomach anymore. Let's face it, times are hard. For the longest time, I've indulged in a $45 monthly Thai massage religiously, but since I've been introduced to this $20 Chinese foot massage, things had to change. This way, I am able to indulge at least twice a week, rather than once a month. For those not familiar, the $20 foot massage involves a foot soak, a foot massage, and a quick massage on the rest of the body as well. While the feet are soaking, the head and arms are massaged. Once the feet are dried, it is lotioned and massaged, as well as the legs. After a while, they instruct you to turn over so they can work on the back. I'm not gonna sugarcoat this place. It's not like the typical spa environment. It's a small room with lazyboy type chairs, but they do have more private rooms in the back for the other types of massages. Despite being in the private room, be mindful about talking because the walls are SUPER thin. In the past, I was somewhat wary with these types of places because it wasn't something I was used to. However, I gave it a chance and now, once I'm in that chair, everyone else disappears and I don't give a damn as long as you're not intruding on my massage experience by being loud and inconsiderate. I mean, some people just don't use their common sense to whisper. Anyway, they do a great job. They do tend to get a little rough when they work on your back but I'm sure you can request for them to go a little softer. I just take it even if I wince here and there because after it's over, I feel like a brand new person. They understand and speak English, which is unlike the other place I used to go to, making it hard to communicate what I want. They accept credit cards and give out frequency cards! After 10, you get a free massage. I'm sure I'll have my free one in about 2 to 3 months. Oh and they give you their full hour, rather than the other place I used to go to (Sunshine Massage), where they just massage you for 50 minutes. I've grown disappointed with Sunshine overbooking and cutting the actual massage time, that I was willing to give Far East Massage a try.
