It's a gentle smell, perhaps a mixture of the candles / soaps / parfums / teas they carry. Secondly, the ladies that work there are warm and inviting, welcoming us to the shop / offering complimentary iced or hot tea / providing overall GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Next-ly (if that's a word? and I know it's 3rd, I can count, for really), the items offered are a beautiful array of HANDMADE PRODUCTS in a wide price range for: _ home decor (furniture & accessories), _ bath (soaps, perfumes, candles), _ kitchen (some utensils, tea pots, mugs) _ children (clothes, toys), _ wearables (jewelry, some clothing, flash tats) _ gifts (cards, all of the above, and did I mention flash tats? ^ _ ^ ) Let's talk about FLASH TATS some more! Flash tats are these fun metallic temporary tattoos that adults can wear and that I first noticed some yogis wearing about a year ago. I'm into them these days - I came in wearing some - and chatted w/one of the ladies there about the small 2-pack of gold feather flash tats I was holding while she packaged the delicious tea I was purchasing. She said that her flash tats lasted her about 2 weeks which, if you're familiar with flash tats, you know that not all of them are made equal. Some come right off when you put them on but the ones sold here are long-lasting! _ GOLD FEATHER FLASH TATS ($6.50, 2-pack) She also explained that the tea I was purchasing which was the hot tea sample of the day - Cinnamon Vanilla Rooibos (red in color and looking lovely in the clear glass teapot heated by a tea light candle below it - which I think they sell and I wish I took a photo) was only 1 tbsp of the blend steeping for a few hours, and that it won't (and hadn't) become bitter. Also, the proceeds for this tea vendor go towards AIDS research! Gold star with a cherry on top! _ CINNAMON VANILLA ROOIBOS ($2.50/ounce = about 6 tbsp for this specific blend) After I purchased the tea and flash tats (9th mention here, haha!), I said to keep the change and instead of keeping in the register or putting it into a tip jar, they put it into a jar for DONATING TO CHARITY (which one I don't recall)! 2nd gold star with a cherry on top, a la mode (oui, that is vanilla ice cream). He apparently didn't hold the same views as the shirt's statement and demanded that she have a conversation about why she would wear that shirt. She kept saying no, and he wouldn't take the rejection. No one else who worked in the store seemed to care either. If you only want customers to enter your store who share your hateful and ignorant views, you should post a sign outside stating such. There is another antique shop within walking distance whose employees are friendly, helpful, will not harass you, and welcome everyone.

I grabbed one belt and two cups and a bowl. I took to the register and the older black woman at the counter took a look at the belt and said it was expensive. She tried to charge me $19 for an item that was marked $2. The she said the bowl was not a bowl, and wanted to charge me her own price. I continued to state that it was bric & brag or whatever they call it and the price list was in the room above where I found it. It's almost like she doesn't want to sell it for the listed prices and wants to make her own depending on who goes to pay. Won't be back... On a side note- I saw her trying to overcharge an elderly lady on two resin outdoor chairs you get from Lowe's for $5. She was trying to charge $30 per chair. WTH?!! ‍ She is clearly uninformed tha these items were all donated and should be priced accordingly. Also, if someone is in need of something they shouldn't have to pay her made up premium price.

In the case of the New Paltz store, I was never a big fan anyway as right off the bat you're competing with about 6,000 or so SUNY New Paltz students for an already scarce inventory of 2007 Port Jervis Turkey Trot T shirts, old moo moos and Mantovani albums (which, please don't get me wrong, I will happily rifle through such trash like a starving raccoon with rabies). But, your chance of finding anything really interesting is very limited. In general, it's just a smaller space that isn't even really fully utilized. However, at the end of the day it's probably somewhat helping college kids save some cash on clothes, furniture and housewares items. That's a good thing. Just don't come in here expecting to find a treasure trove of vintage clothes and quirky knickknacks. Most of that stuff's been devoured by moths decades ago or snatched up by resellers. Andy and Brian don't sit still, they are always flying around helping everyone find the right stuff. I recently went there looking for furniture hardware to fix my bed headboard, right before the store closed. Glenn and Lou both helped me design a new bolt/nut setup to fix the pieces with stronger parts so it wouldn't break again, while using the existing drilled holes so it looks perfect. I was the last customer out as they were shutting off the lights and then I heard it was even Lou's birthday...stayed late to help me with a $10 purchase. This is how True Value earns the loyalty of their customers and takes the stress and uncertainty out of the average DIY jobs. Glenn and Lou could tell how important this repair was to me, and they gave it the same attention as a major renovation. It is amazing how cheap it can be to fix/maintain things instead of buy new ones. Take some digital pics and bring to the store and tell the crew to give you whatever you need to tackle the project. Be sure to rent tools from them too, so easy and cheap! They will even deliver the equipment to your house for you. Get Benjamin Moore paints from them too, good stuff lasts longer than junk and requires fewer coats...your time is valuable!
