First of all, Farina's is primarily a bike store -- not primarily a rental place, though they do that, too. I had a pretty decent rental experience there -- expensive ($12/hr, with no pro-rating) but great service and good bikes. [For rentals, I'd always suggest The Bike Stop in Arlington, right on the Minuteman Bike Trail. Can't beat $6/hour, though their bikes are *not* as nice and new. The ppl there are sweet.] Regarding *sales,* I've been in the market for a new mid-level road bike for about six weeks, and looked at or talked to most of the bike stores in the area. Farina's had the bike I wanted on sale, so I snatched it up (last one in my size) for $50 less than nearest price. Nice -- but it's a sale, of course. Their regular prices seem at or below everyone else's. Most importantly, I got no attitude from them. Anthony at Farina's was straightforward, honest and helpful. He let me ask a hundred questions, and gave detailed answers, all with a nice vibe. He took lots of time to help me fit my bike, even showed me a video display of me riding on their stationary riding device, to point out details. I'm sure many stores do this, but my point is, so does F's. One drawback: You can only test-ride their new bikes on a little side-street outside their store, about 200 ft. long. I've never heard of this. Even Belmont Wheelworks -- for all their attitude (and there was plenty) -- let me ride as long and far as I wanted. Fortunately, I had already ridden the bike I was buying more extensively. FWIW, at one point a random customer in the store said to Anthony, "You know, I come to F's because the vibe is so laid back. I never feel pressure here." When I rode my bike away, it had been fitted and adjusted quite well and felt terrific. They also do a 90-day free tune-up for you. Provisos: I've only owned the bike 24 hours, and so haven't been able to put their long-term relationship skills to the test. But if you're in the market, you owe it to yourself to check out this local, family-owned business (the father roams around the shop). read more

I've known the Farina's for 23years they are really good friends they were my first bike shop I bought a nishiki mountain bike from them back in 1991 and I've been friends with their family ever since I've bought six bikes from them since I've known them about to buy a 7th bike this summer they are a great family and great friends when you go buy a bike from them they take the time listen to you and what your needs are they don't just try to sell something because they want get rid of it also even though I'm a bike mechanic when I'm busy and can't work on my own bikes I will always take my bikes to get them serviced at Farina's because they are really good and honest they are best also they've been in business since 1975. 39yrs of helping keep people's bicycles on the street's of Boston read more

Took my snowblower for repairing a leak. Got it back just to find out that not only the leak was not fixed but my blower no longer work continuously as was the case before the repair! I am waiting to return it (a pain) and see what they do next. Will update this review accordingly. read more

Farina's is the best! I bought all of my family bikes and lawnmower and snow blower there. They are extremely knowledgeable and the service is honest. When I went in to buy my daughter a bike for her birthday, they spent a lot of time with us and actually recommended on that was less expensive than the one we were about to pick. I just bought a Liv Avail road bike there and they helped me go through all of the options and made sure everything fit. It is a family run business and it shows - the staff is warm, friendly and really helpful. I have plenty of options for places to buy bikes, accessories and power equipment, but I wouldn't go any other place except Farina's. read more

Well, unfortunately it is true that the management of this company is unethical as mentioned in other reviews. I own a Briggs and Stratton engine Lawn Mower which became faulty within 12 months so I was referred to Farina's to have my mower fixed under manufacturer warranty as they are listed as an "AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIRS" (there's only about 3 to choose from in your area). I was told by Farina's that "Oh, we don't have time for that, we have our own products to deal with". So let me get this straight, Briggs and Stratton lists you on their website and refers customers to you and brings you in business and you tell the customers to go screw if it's warranty work and you possibly may not receive a profit for yourself? But what you don't realize is word gets around and if that's how you want to treat your customers then you will have no additional business regarding anything in the future even when considering new products. Briggs and Stratton was notified by me as well as the better business bureau. read more

It's a decent shop. Has a good selection. The price is so so (retail price). Seems like there is only two people really working there. The female sales person really doesn't provide any service. Stands behind the counter and just doing something with the register. The gentleman actually came out on the floor and ask if we needed help. I told him what I was looking for. 90 bucks gets them telling you they did a tune up. But hey, there's a big ugly farina sticker on the bike now, that means they must have actually done a tune up, right? Definitely would not recommend bringing your bike here to get service if you actually know what a tune up entails. read more

I bought a snow blower from Farina's on Saturday and could not be happier. I paid a little more than I would have for the same machine at one of the big box retailers but they delivered it to me, walked through all the things that the machine can do, how to maintain it and gave a demonstration. The folks in the store and the delivery folks are top notch and professional. I highly recommend Farina's to anyone looking for a snow blower, garden equipment or a bicycle. read more

I agree with the review that says don't expect any favors. Recognizing they are business however, there is something to be said for providing unusual circumstances. I suppose expectations were high given the local and family own nature of the business but often times have found them curt and not very helpful when answering questions after the purchase has been made. read more

Some years ago I brought my perfectly restored vintage Bianchi for a basic tune-up. When I got the bike back the mechanic had affixed a Farina's sticker on the seat tube, apparently with some aerospace-grade glue. Scraping it off would damage the frame's paint and various chemicals failed to solve it. As the years go by, I get more irritated and always think of Farina's when I look at what they did. Pretty good local family business. I bought my lawnmower and snow-thrower from them and had a good experience. They delivered the snow-thrower which was great. They are a little more expensive than the big box stores but it's worth it to work with a competent family business. read more

I moved to Watertown from Cambridge a few years back and learned that my choices for bike service were more limited here. I don't know if Farina's is about it, but it's nearly about it. I was afraid that might mean that they don't try too hard to please, but that is not the case. I have gotten consistent excellent and fairly priced service here and delivered with a friendly and professional attitude. Normally that would be only four stars, but they really pulled my butt out of a crack today and turned around in less than a day a repair that could have been a few days. That's the fifth star. They understood that my bike wasn't a leisure time activity, but the vehicle that I carry on my life with. All of you folks at Farina's, you rock! read more

The staff are extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They have gone out of their way to help me make the best choices in terms of equipment, and have provided excellent personalized fitting on bikes. The bike and power equipment repair team is excellent and have provided top quality service. Importantly, they stand behind their products. Farinas does more than just bikes. They sell and service lawnmowers and snowblowers too. Like others on this post I was all about supporting a family owned business. I've purchased a lawnmower and a snowblower there and have had them serviced there for a few years. They are definitely NOT CHEAP....but I always figured it was worth it until this morning. I had dropped my snowblower off for service 3 weeks ago. Said it would be ready in a week. I waited almost 2 weeks to call and check on it. They said, so sorry, only a couple more days. I waited 9 more days and called this morning to see if it was ready. I had the really unfortunate experience of speaking with Anthony Farina....co-owner. When i said that this time my experience had been a bit dissappointing and that it wasn't that it took three weeks, but that my expectations weren't set honestly he TOLD ME TO TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. In this economy what small businees owner would tell a good customer to F$#K themselves and go elsewhere. Absolutley blew my mind. So that is exactly what I am going to do. read more

I had a fantastic experience purchasing my first road bike from Farina's. Anthony is very knowledgeable and was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. I went in there knowing what brand bike I wanted but he spent time helping me find the right size and model to suit my needs. Within one business day my bike was assembled and ready to be picked up. During the fitting Anthony thoroughly explained all of the features. He took time and made adjustments to the stem, the pedals, and the seat and told me what accessories I should carry with me while riding. He was patient as I figured out the shoes and pedals. He showed me how to use the trim and also helped me with my posture and technique. I absolutely love my new bike and Anthony could not have made the experience any easier. I will definitely be returning to Farina's in the future. They have a great selection of bikes, helmets, and accessories - whatever you need. Not a terrible place, the fact it's family owned is a bit of a consolation. However the prices (for bikes and service, I can't speak to the lawn/power equipment division) are above average. I am not opposed to paying a bit more at a local establishment assuming they provide superior service, however they don't IMO at Farina's. I have purchased many things at this shop and not been too impressed however the last straw was when they tried to charge me to remove a freewheel (a task that takes 1 minute) The mechanic was just sitting around and the shop was empty. It is unheard of to charge for something like this, especially for someone who frequents the shop. The charge for removing the freewheel, $6 dollars, the charge for the tool to do it $8 dollars, I bought the tool and left, needless to say I will not be going back. I wouldn't recommend not going there, but don't expect any favors. read more
