Farmboys, Farmboys, Farmboys... I know it's super cold outside and business is probably slow, but yesterday's experience unfortunately was not a good one. My wife and son were super excited to try barbecue at this famous local spot, but we definitely caught them on an off night. Reviews are mostly good for this place, so I guess timing and circumstances are at play. My wife ordered the peach cocktail and they were out. I ordered the RIBS, they were out !!! They didn't have the sausage for the combination platter and came out a couple of minutes later saying they had it (most likely just seared because the smoke was not there when we were eating). They were out of Brussel sprouts. They were out of MUSTARD !! I ordered a house pilsner they were out and I ordered another beer. Need i say more? On a good note they can barbecue. The brisket was very good. Great smoke ring and true winner. The pulled pork and chicken both had good smoke. Chicken was a bit on the dry side, but it was still good. Baked beans were good. My wife absolutely loved the cole slaw. Waitress was very good. Polite, apologetic and serviced us very well. We addressed our disappointment and hopefully by summer this famous BBQ spot can get back on track. read more

The crew and I heard about a new barbecue spot all the way out in Danbury, CT so we packed up the whip and shot out there! Here's how it went at Farmboys Smokin' BBQ! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on South Street with its own private parking lot is this gem. What looks like a seemingly medium-sized house on the side of the street is this unique spot. Out back there are several smokers that are fed with wood on a regular basis. Once inside you'll see the rustic concept. Lots of wood everywhere and a pretty open concept. Directly in front of you is the circular bar and off to the left is the main dining room. The lighting is warm and inviting as well. Service: The whole staff really took care of us since we were a pretty big party. We had no issues whatsoever. Food: So I got to try A LOT of things here. I started off with the Just Peachy which is Crowne Royal Peach served with a whiskey-soaked peach and some sweet tea. It was deliciously well-balanced and simple with only 3 major ingredients. Next up was the Homestyle Honey Cornbread. This was very good, soft and simple, I do wish the butter was warmer though so that it was easier to spread. Next up was the Honey Sriracha Glazed Pork Belly. It was so soft, so tender, savory and flavorful. I loved the bit of char from the "skin" and the sweet/spiciness was a great addition. Next up was the Smokey Mac & Cheese that comes served in a super hot skillet and it was SUPER CHEESY, yet very thick as well. This was so delicious, peppery, a bit sharp, but I really enjoyed it. Next up were the Buffalo Cauliflower Wings which are an excellent menu choice for those that don't eat meat. They're served over a blue cheese coleslaw and this was an awesome idea! I was very impressed because coleslaw is usually made with mayonnaise, using bleu cheese was brilliant. The "wings" themselves were crispy and flavorful. Next up was the Farmboys Old Fashioned which is a twist on the original classic. In it is Basil Hayden Toast Premium Bourbon and other secret ingredients. This was delicious as well and was just a hint too sweet to me. Next up were the Super Sloppy Nachos. These are a concoction of melted cheddar, homemade cheese sauce, baked beans, ranch, BBQ sauce, scallions, jalapenos and pulled pork. You can get chicken instead if you wish. These were delicious and very straightfroward, but pretty heavy. I actually really liked the fresh jalapenos that provided a bit of a crunch along with the chips. Very good. Next up were the Brussels Sprouts which are served with crispy pork belly and hot honey sauce. I mean, I guess these aren't healthy as they once were anymore. Lol. These were straight though. I liked how they were cooked and the other flavors involved drowned out the actual Brussels flavor. Second to last was the beef brisket. It was amazing and was so incredibly tender. Just simply amazing. I don't have anything else to say. Lastly, the smoked wings. These were super tender and they still had a crispy skin! The smokey flavor was excellent and there were hints of Cajun, maybe creole in it as well. I loved these so much. Value: Barbecue is usually on a bit of the pricey side, but that's just the way it goes. The food usually takes a lot longer and time is money. That's about it. This place wasn't crazy though and the portions are big so you definitely get your money's worth. In conclusion, I really, really liked this place and just wish it were closer to me so that I could visit more often. A quaint little place on the outskirts of Newtown, Connecticut. The smell of the smoker hits you as soon as you step out of the car. It's a charming country house with a nicely sized parking lot and plenty of available spots. We were greeted immediately by the staff upon entering and were told to choose our own seats. The waitress promptly brought us menus and informed us they were out of both the mac and cheese (not a big deal for us) and the pork belly. We let her know about our dietary restrictions, and she was helpful in recommending which dishes to avoid. My husband ordered a seltzer, and I decided to try a Surfside -- basically a spiked Arnold Palmer in a can. For food, we chose to share the full rack of ribs with sides of coleslaw and crispy Brussels sprouts. The coleslaw was good -- not too sweet and mayo-based. The Brussels sprouts were incredible: perfectly cooked, crispy, salty, and with just a slight kick. The ribs were absolutely perfect -- fall-off-the-bone and finger-licking good. Each table had two bottles of BBQ sauce: one sweet and one with a spicy kick. The portions were generous -- we could only finish half of what was served. read more

A mixed bag. The Pros: the honey Sriracha glazed pork belly and the the pulled pork were both good. The cornbread was solid. The Bad: the food felt like it had been under a heat lamp since the day before. The kielbasa tasted less like it was smoked and more like it was run past the smoker. The brisket was dry enough it could have been jerky. It needed a knife to cut it. The place looked disheveled and there seemed to be only one person there who was trying her best. Tucked away in an area of Danbury we had never been before, we visited Farmboys for the first time! My husband and I came for lunch on a Saturday, and we were so full afterwards that we didn't eat for the rest of the day! The BBQ is super flavorful here, with a lot going on in the homemade seasonings. I really loved the loaded nachos and fried green tomatoes! A great place to get a taste of the south in CT. This needs to be your next bbq dinner spot! The most tender smoked meat platters, flavor packed homemade sauces and rich classic sides. I tried the BBQ sampler: brisket, pulled chicken, pulled pork, sausage with smoked mac and cheese and brussel sprouts & pork belly, Hushpuppies with comeback sauce, and Lights out brisket grilled cheese on Texas toast. The brisket was my favorite meat but everything had a nice smoked flavor and melted in your mouth. Every time I come back to Farmboys it's better than the last time. They have found their footing. Ordered this time a Cubano and Hush Puppies, which I absolutely love and appreciate so much that they are on the menu, and I was a happy camper. The Cubano was made with pulled pork giving it a special barbecue taste. I love Cubanos and this was a real treat. Great, friendly, attentive service. This was a Saturday afternoon and kind of quiet because of yet another rainy day, but as my friend and I worked on our lunch/dinner more and more customers took seats. Restaurants can do some very basic things to ensure that their clients are never wildly disappointed. One is to be open when you say you're open. So if your website says you're open, you should probably be... Open. While I was sitting there composing this brief review, two couples pulled up separately, got out of their cars, walked to the front of the restaurant, saw the closed sign and disappointedly walked back to their cars and drove away. Farmboys Smokin' BBQ has been on my radar for some time now, we just don't get out to the Danbury area too often, but today we did. My wife started off with a "Just Peachy" cocktail (she loved it so much, she ordered a 2nd one later), and we had the Fried Green Tomatoes for an appetizer. We both enjoyed the app, the cornmeal breading they used was very good, and the dipping sauce was excellent. I had the Half Rack of Pork Ribs platter and my wife went with the Honey Drizzled chicken sandwich. Both meals hit the spot (portion size was quite ample), the bark on those ribs was very tasty, meat was tender & flavorful. This isn't your typical "Northern BBQ", the Pitmaster knows how to prepare Southern style Q (we lived along the the Tennessee/Alabama border for a year, we both had a good amount of BBQ during that time). My wife was also very happy with her chicken sandwich, I had a bite, and I felt the flavors of honey and smoke blended well. Mac & Cheese was outstanding, seasoned fries were a winner too. O, almost forgot about the cornbread. I thought it was the best cornbread I've ever had. Service was also stellar -- Christina was taking care of everyone in the bar area, she was very friendly & attentive. Farmboys Smokin' BBQ is Top Notch in my book. I reviewed this place two years ago and it was fantastic. Everything was wonderful, but last Friday I went with my family (6 adults and 2 kids) for an after Thanksgiving dinner. When we got there there was only one other table of patrons and the rest were people at the bar. The server took our appetizer and a drink order and got those to us relatively quickly. However, when she handed my husband his beer, she said it wasn't cold so she gave him a glass of ice instead of coming back and asking him if he wanted something different!?! That should've been the first red flag, then we got our appetizers and she did not offer us any plates for sharing. By the time she took our dinner order the other group of customers had left and it still took over an hour to get our meal and half the food came out cold. And of that wasn't bad enough, while we were eating karaoke started, and it was so loud it was obnoxious. I was so disappointed with this experience. I don't know if I will ever go back. What I experienced last time I went there was a nice restaurant that cared about service and quality, this time I felt like I was intruding on a townie bar. We were the only people there eating and the fact that it took that long and our food came out cold and the coleslaw was like soup was just very disappointing. Stopped into Farmboys for dinner with the family the other night. Staff was very friendly and service was efficient and accommodating. Food and drinks all came out quickly. Variety of seating options with an open floor plan and the bar in the center. It's not a huge place so I am sure it can fill up quickly but we went for an earlier dinner and had no issues getting a table. Nice drink menu- opted for keeping it simple though and doing the Wagon Wheel cocktail- whiskey and lemonade. Refreshing and hit the spot! We tried a bunch of different items and have to say we enjoyed them all. The real highlights of the meals were- 1. soft pretzels with cheese- soft light pretzels, nicely salted and cheese sauce to dip in was great! 2. Ribs were fall off the bone good without being super fatty 3. Pork belly- what a sear and crunch that got on it- so good! Kids enjoyed their meals as well- their chicken was flavorful and juicy. We opted to take home a piece of their peanut butter pie as we were too full from our meals. Didn't take a picture of it, but it was DELICIOUS! Stopped in for takeout dinner, ordering a 1/2 lb of brisket, the pork belly appetizer, and sides of coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. The food was delicious and the prices are reasonable. A nice makeover, to the extent possible, inside I think they took a paintbrush and mop and cloth to it and Voila! Still a comfortable spot even as washing your hands in the men's room still risks a door in the face . I felt sometimes that the young "bartenderess" was a tad uninspired but she was OK too. Our 1st time in Farmboys Smokin BBQ and our waitress Annemarie O was Amazing! Friendly, Attentive, and anticipating needs. The bartender told us we could sit where we liked. We chose a table behind the bar and the people at the bar were friendly. We shared a BBQ platter of brisket, pulled chicken, pulled pork, and sausage. The platter came with two sides and we chose baked beans and macaroni and cheese. I love corn bread so I ordered an extra side of that. Our meal overall was really good. The only part that we may try another side next time is the baked beans. They were good but the menu mentioned pork belly and there was none at all. However, the platter for two had plenty of good quality meats. We had enough to fill us while eating and leftovers to take home. My corn bread was a nice big piece. The staff was very friendly and there are lots of seating options. There was even karaoke starting so I appreciate their fun atmosphere. The pictures came great but unfortunately the taste didn't always match. The nachos weren't heated through all the way and I could tell they used pre-shaved cheese as it just doesn't melt and the chips tasted stale. The pulled pork on the nachos was very good though! Also if you look at the meat plate the meat was very greasy but regardless, tasted good except the texture of the pork belly, it was gummy. The sausage reminded me of bologna and wasn't spicy or sweet, didn't really have a flavor. I like getting sausage at BBQ places because of the skin always has a nice bite to it but maybe because they were pre sliced they just were a bit soggy. I liked the French fries and corn bread! The mac and cheese was not good, didn't have a lot of taste and didn't like the texture. Overall I think this place has some great ideas and nice people working there. The beans were decent. All the meat came shredded (pork, chicken, brisket) which was not my favorite, as it made the meat dry out faster. I think this place has potential but missed the mark for me. We came for a weekday lunch, maybe one other table but the place was otherwise empty. Staff friendly. It was absolutely silent in there, no music or TVs or anything. The nachos were a let down and I wouldn't get them again, they had such potential! But I could tell they used low quality pre shredded cheese because most of it wasn't melted which just leaves you with not an enjoyable chip experience, with many of the chips having no topping and a little stale. They should just shred real cheese. The chili id pass on in the future as it was very oily/watery. The meatloaf sandwich was a saucy cheesy mess that was very overkill and had the soggiest bun, had to eat what I could with a fork and waste the rest. Didn't even take a photo of it. There was a special on the menu that was a sausage that I forgot the flavors but my husband said it was very tasty and a plain brisket sandwich I was very pleased with. Came in tonight on a whim because I didn't want to cook. Decided to try the pork belly (sorry no picture, it was devoured!), it was excellent! Service was spectacular, a bit chilly on a cold rainy night, food was great only one done to pick and from reading other reviews I'm not the only one. The macaroni and cheese is too loose. Runny and a tad grainy, had a good flavor but between the noodles being a bit over cooked and the cheese sauce being watery and finding the grainy of the cheese on the tail end, I was not a fan. However everything else was spot on! Buffalo cauliflower wings with blue cheese slaw was superb and definitely something they should add to the forever menu. Fried green tomatoes were great but I'm guessing they were frozen and not fresh battered as they were very watery inside and from home bartering and frying green tomatoes i could tell the difference. The special pork and brisket platter of bricked, pork belly and pork ribs was the phenomenal! The ribs were perfectly cooked and had a wonderful flavor. The pork belly was sweet and perfectly cooked. The brisket was moist, green smoke ring and tender. Our other side was cole slaw which was great! I was a fan of the spicy bbq sauce on the table, the sweet one was too sweet and not tangy enough but everyone has a different palette. We will definitely be back.
