I had the Ol' Smokey Burger, and he also tried the Cowboy Butter Burger. The brisket on the Ol' Smokey was out of this world--so flavorful and perfectly cooked. Pros: - The bbq'd meat was undeniably excellent: the brisket flavorful and moist, not overly fatty; the ribs nicely textured, moist on the inside, with a bit of bark outside and an unusual, but not unpleasant, touch of sugar; the sausage moist and snappy. You could see some nice smoke rings on the intact pieces of meat. Cons: - Service. The staff member we encountered when we entered and asked about our reservation (a manager of the restaurant or perhaps just of the cocktail program, we learned) was incredibly rude and unfriendly. We had barely begun to eat our food when she came by our table and asked us if we would like to-go bags. We were a bit shocked and asked her if she needed the table for some reason. (The restaurant was less than half full.) She said no, but the messaging to us that she did not want us at the restaurant was quite clear. With a lot of effort I did draw out some of the superficial signs of friendliness from the bartender working under the manager, who had initially echoed the manager's coldness. But it ought not be on the customer to extract a non-miserable customer experience, especially on a celebratory occasion. The person who brought out our food was competent, pleasant, and helpful. Middling: - The Lumberjack cocktail was well designed and well made. If only those behind this cocktail program were not so angry at having to interact with customers! - Mashed potatoes had the texture of being scratch made, but also had a hint of margarine. Margarine is a no go in our book. - Corn bread was very sweet and moist, Northern style. It may just be a matter of personal preference, but I am partial to Southern style corn bread, a bit more crumbly, not sweet and not cake-like, where the flavor of corn is more prominent. TLDR: Pleasant space, some excellent food and cocktails. (The non bbq items we tried were so-so, but where the smoker was involved, it didn't seem like you could go wrong.) Hospitality was a fail. We have a few good options for bbq in the area. We are in no hurry to return to Cowboy Butter. read more

We came in here for lunch this week and we were blown away by how delicious everything was! The cauliflower was on of the best things my teenagers said they had ever eaten. We also got the bbq sampler and the meat was so tender and delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough. It was so good we went back the next day! read more

This is a fairly new establishment (3 months) and a welcome additional to the town. Very spacious with 2 large rooms. Nice menu, beautiful bar, a variety of beer, great service. Starters- fries fried in Beef tallow which is much healthier than seed oils. 4 diff dipping sauces Saddles on horseback which was 4 bacon wrapped scallops. Absolutely delicious and lemony buttery flavor served with mixed greens - also fabulous Cowgirl cauliflower - crispy and a little spicy but not overly Mac and cheese was good. Had this on my list of places to try and finally had a chance Saturday evening. Nice space utilizing both upstairs and downstairs. Cute, country theme with good music. Brisket queso was delicious. My short rib was huge and came with lots of accompaniments as well. While I didn't personally eat the wings, my husbands looked great and like they had a lot of meat on them. Service was friendly and turned things around quickly. On the pricier side but not outrageous for a nice meal out. I'd stop in again! read more

Went for a late lunch today. We shared Tallow fries as an appetizer. The three of us ordered the brisket cheesesteak sandwich- yum! We all loved it. We took home 3 doggie bags. The only criticism I would have is that for $24 each they should come with something- chips, potato salad or coleslaw. Service was great. We will return. read more

Well, first off...wow. A friend of mine showed me pictures of the food that got me excited and the food is better than the pictures. Everything hit the spot. But of everything we tried - top three was the brisket meat, the sweet cornbread Yes please, and the fried cauliflower. Cannot wait to go again. The service was - before I begin - backstory we haven't seen my friend Jenny in six years, so we had a lot to discuss. And would you believe we talked for almost three hours - and they never said a cross word. The service was kind friendly and very forgiving because they close at 9. We thought it was ten, and there we were just talking like the wait staff was gonna spend the night. And they were all so nice. The decor is spot on. Food is decent but the portions are small for the price and fries aren't free even with a $24 burger. Pickles were not crisp or fresh. Jack was a great waiter. Later we had another server who was very attentive. She was also too chatty and she made an antisemitic comment as a joke without knowing how offensive it was. She didn't even realize she had. My friends met here on a Friday night for dinner. We sat downstairs, where there is also a bar and bar tables. The atmosphere is laid back, welcoming, warm. We ordered burnt ends to share as an app and it was a hit. For entrees, it was difficult to choose. Two in our group each ordered the brisket burger, another went with an interesting shrimp dish and I chose the brisket burrito, which one friend joked it was so big I could have used it as a pillow. I forced myself to stop after eating half. Absolutely delicious and I'm not all that big on brisket. Until now. Tender and savory. My friends were well pleased with their choices as well. They also ate half. We were excited to already have a great lunch for the next day. Service was very good. We ordered the fries cooked in tallow halfway through the meal. They handled that request quickly and made sure they brought enough for the table. The food was amazing (lunch menu only)! We loved the texessee dry rub wings and the Mac & cheese! The brisket was really good as well. Not super salty (we don't mind because the bbq sauce & all the other food have a lot of salt) but it was falling apart and juicy, so A+ in my book! The Tex-mex esquites were the only thing that didn't measure up. It was too much sauce (decent flavor though) and not enough corn. The ratio wasn't right but we were so full from everything else it didn't discourage us much. For desert, we had the maple walnut brownie sundae...just yum! It was so rich and decadent. It was moist and sweet! Absolutely mouthwatering if you're a chocolate lover, I highly recommend. Service was amazing! Tom and Ashley were so friendly! The place itself was very clean--and not just visually, you could smell and feel the cleanliness (no stickiness (iykyk). Was expecting a better experience all around! The portions were very small for high prices & the quality was not great. The sides offered when ordering the combo were skimpy & lacked flavor. The staff was nice but did not go above & beyond, nor did they seem interested in any customer feedback. They actually made excuses for their small portions blaming it on the high prices they have to pay for the meat. I will not be returning for a second time nor would i recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was really good, let's start off with that. We shared tallow fries, which were really good and the portion was nice and big, then there was some mix up as to the availability of the OK Corral BBQ platter (which made us wonder how they could possibly not have all the "parts" of something that looks like their flagship dish), but eventually we got what we ordered. The platter was full of really nicely done meats, the sides (BBQ beans and a spin on Mexican street corn) were really tasty and the cornbread was the best I have ever had! That good, seriously. I had pork belly, super tender with lovely bark and seasoned to perfection. I wanted this to be a perfect place and it nearly was- short of a few things. The food came a bit cooler than we expected. The waiter, while really attentive and nice, was clearly struggling with what's available and what we ordered. He got confused when taking the beer order, even tho my husband went off his way to make the order as simple as possible after realizing the waiter didn't really know what was there. And the last note, we were there on a cold evening and the draft coming from the front door was really unwelcome. I don't know why someone designing the space didn't think of an entry alcove or at least a thick heavy curtain separating the diners from the people walking in. I thought of it the first time the door opened. We were expecting the atmosphere would be more relaxed, more "Texan", but it feels a bit "upscale Texan", for lack of a better word. All and all I hope this restaurant stays here for longer, because we were really impressed with the food, intend to be back with our foodie friends, and for someone who loves the western cuisine- this one is really a gem. read more
