Still some really good BBQ! My favorite is still the beef brisket. We ordered a set menu item that is supposed to come with ribs, brisket and 2 sausages. They were out of sausages so we requested pork belly (wasn't a fan). But I am confused on if they are out of an item for the pre-selected board, why wouldn't you have another item ready to be in its place for no up charge? We were charged separately for the pork belly. The nachos were good but not a lot of pulled pork. And the pork ribs were fabulous.

Finally back after a few years and glad we went. Wait time was quoted at 1 1/2 hours for 6 of us, so we went to the bar. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was prime time on a Saturday night. But we were sat pretty quickly. For apps we ordered Bacon in a jar and the Texas Poutin. We ordered Table breaker to share, mac n cheese(yum), Brussel sprouts(amazing)and cole slaw (really good)for sides. We had SOOOOO much meat for the Table Breaker. Definitely generous servings. The staff were all super nice and attentive. It wasn't too loud in there. Someone was always checking on our table. They heard us say it was our son's bday and made sure to recognize it in a big way. Will definitely be back.

I was driving by when I saw a sign for this place and quickly chose to stop and grab dinner. I thought I'd have to go inside the restaurant for takeout but they conveniently had a window outside with a giant menu to order, I thought that was great. The menu had a good variety and deff on the pricey side, however, it's bbq food so it's almost expected. Outside you can also see the smoker/grill and you can smell the delish food as you make your choice of what to get. When I was finally ready, I placed my order in the small window and the lady that took my order was really nice, I ordered a full rack of ribs, some Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries, they told me it would be about a 20min wait. Once I got my food, the guy that handed to me doubled checked that everything was in the container and gave it to me, again, really nice service. As for the food, the Mac and cheese looked really good but it needed more flavor, the ribs where very well cooked, however, it lacked a LOT of sauce, lucky for me I had some bbq sauce at home, and the sweet potato fries were not crispy at all, I think they were too soggy, I was hungry so I ate it all, specially because it was a hefty price BUT it left me wanting for more. Was it good but not great, was it Memphis quality? No, but it definitely has potential. When I think of BBQ, I think of saucy and lots of flavor, and unfortunately it felt short. Now because of their really nice staff, I'd go back and try something else and see if it's any better.

We finally made it to one of the top BBQ spots in CT, and now we understand why it's always spoken about so highly! Hoodoo has definitely taken the number one spot in our ranking of best bbq in the state. From the nachos, to the brisket and even the smoked turkey, everything was incredible! It was a great spot to catch up with friends from the area. Attentive service as well, but we didn't feel rushed, even considering a wait was starting to form for weekend lunch. Can't wait to come back and try more, this is a meal I'll be thinking about for a while!

My wife loves barbecue, so our early Mother's Day celebration brought us to Hoodoo Brown BBQ (based on a foodie friend's recommendation). After an hour long drive, we get to the restaurant at 6pm on Saturday. Understandably, the parking lot was quite full, though we managed to find a spot on the other side of lot. Stepping in the restaurant, the place looked quaint but clean, but that's about all I can say as we were told that our group of 4 would need an hour and a half wait. Thankfully, their take out register outside got us some food in 20 minutes. We ordered the Table Breaker (1 beef rib, 2 halves of chicken, a full rack of pork ribs, a pound of brisket, and cornbread), a side of mac and cheese, and Texas Poutine - all of this for $250. We found a table on the other side of the lot (a little shop around the corner that closes pretty early), so we made ourselves comfortable there, though I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate anyone doing this during business hours. But we weren't going to wait an hour drive home before digging in. I loved the Texas Poutine, though more cheese curds would have made it pop a bit more. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender. Pork ribs were flavorful and tender as well. The chicken was a bit on the dry side, but the skin was perfection! Cornbread is not southern style, so don't expect much sweetness there. Didn't leave room for the beef rib so the jury is still out. There is definitely plenty of leftovers for a few days, so the price for what you get works out pretty well. I wish we could've checked out the restaurant properly, but timing just didn't work out. If this location were at a mall or other location where you could do some sightseeing or window shopping, I probably would have waited. Regardless, the food was fantastic, and if we're in the neighborhood, I would definitely come back.

The food is good. One of the best bbq spots in Connecticut. Good dessert options. Don't be surprised is what you want is sold out if you come late.

Every Thursday night is prime rib night at Hoo Doo's. I'm just a regular customer that loves great food and service. This where you have to go. So welcoming and off the charts tasty. Warm and comforting setting. Enjoy it.

This place has been on our radar for some time and we were finally able to make it in for a visit. You know when you are pulling up you're in for a treat when you see the smoke billowing from the smokers outside, and the smell hits you before you step inside. The place was packed and the wait was expected for this type of destination. The staff was super friendly and engaging. Our server gave us a good tour of the extensive menu, and there are so many choices its hard to pick. The food we chose was all amazing (and we had plenty to take home with us to enjoy later). The flow of food they produce and how fast it gets to the table hot and fresh is impressive with how busy they were on a Saturday. There was even a non stop flow of people picking up takeout trays. Kudos to the whole crew at HooDoo Brown.

Hoodoo Brown not only has the best barbecue food, but everyone there is so friendly! The brisket is the best i've ever had, they have amazing sausages and different rotating flavors. I live over an hour away and this is the only barbecue I'll eat. Well worth the drive and wait! The vibe is also awesome with their tasteful decorations and love for BBQ.

In 2015 my friend and I discovered Hoodoo brown out in Ridgefield. So we saddled up and got ready to get us some Texas BBQ. When we arrived we were seated relatively quickly since it was lunch and the place was new. The staff was friendly and we got our food in a decent amount of time. The sides ranged from good to a bit disappointing; the Mac and cheese was the best but the corn bread was a little dry. However, the meats were on another level of excellent! We ordered pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and pork belly; all good but that pork belly and brisket were just ridiculous. All that to say we've been going to hoodoo for years and there have been some changes since those early days. For instance it's way more busy than it used to be, if you go for dinner you may be waiting for an hour or two plus. They occasionally will run out of certain meats (pork belly) at certain times of day, which can be frustrating especially if you've been waiting for a long time or drove far to get there. The inside of the restaurant is often bustling at night so if you want a more laid back environment shoot for an early dinner or lunch. The service has always been good, we've never had a bad experience with any of the staff. They've also increased their appetitizer selection. Their wings were excellent and the Texas poutine with the brisket was super delicious! I really recommend the pork belly, brisket, and pulled pork; can't go wrong with any of them! The fact that they've been so consistent with the quality of their food for almost a decade should cause you to give them a try if you're in the area. So, if you're fixin to get some BBQ, you can't go wrong with Hoodoo!

Had an ok experience at this restaurant. Truly a little disappointed that when we arrived and sat down at about 5 PM, the restaurant ran out of pork belly, which was the reason why my friends and I drove nearly 2 hours to get to this place in this nice little town and they ran out of Valley, which devastated me and was truly upset. Being a top sell item i I thought that they should've had a little more of their best sellers available. Truly upset and devastated that they ran out and that was the main reason why we took the long drive to the restaurant. Ultimately substitute the pork belly for something else which was OK definitely had a good time. Our waitress by the name of Ericka was very accommodating and very nice. It was just devastating to hear her say that they ran out of pork belly and nachos. It's kind of hard to determine the best time to arrive to the place to make sure that you are able to order anything off the menu with it being a Saturday night. Thought they would've had enough available for the customer. Ultimately, the atmosphere was very nice. It was very steady and we were taken care of. Totally debating if we should take that drive back to this restaurant because I truly want to try the pork belly. If you are in the area, make sure you call to make sure that everything on the menu is still available. Hoodoo, we will decide if we will make that trip back overall thank you for a great experience.

I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to visit Hoodoo Brown. I live an hour away, but I've been aware of HB's reputation as an outstanding CT BBQ spot for years. As I returned from a trip to the Hudson Valley, I saw the perfect opportunity to visit. I can see why HB has a vocal following. After circling a few times to park, the first thing I noticed was the impressive smoking operation right out front. A lot of towns seem unwilling to allow the presence of visible meat smoking, HB is lucky in that regard. The inside was cool and had appropriate decor for a high end BBQ joint. Service was very friendly. I was hoping they had some platters that would allow for sampling a number of different things for a set price, but the menu was mostly a la carte in that regard. I ordered a 1/2 pound of brisket, a 1/2 pound of Cracklin Pork Belly, a side of Interstellar potatoes, and a side of Apple Vinegar Slaw. I haven't had better brisket in CT. It had phenomenal texture. Not at all dry. HB didn't have to resort to any tricks to keep it moist. The liquified fat did that. Perfect bark. Flavorful rub. Huge strips that were a good mix of lean and fat. The brisket was awesome and I can't see visiting HB without ordering it. I respect the Cracklin Pork Belly, and it's so unique, I imagine it has some big fans. There's a soft easy to chew pork belly component. And a chewable hard candy-like pork skin component. I have not had this style before and the fact that HB was able to execute in this manner is impressive. However, I didn't completely connect with HB's version and I prefer pork belly I've had at at least one other CT spot. The Interstellar potatoes are a top tier CT BBQ side. I didn't catch the whole story, but they were something like au gratin potatoes and the potatoes may have been smoked in some way. A delicious side I haven't seen at other BBQ places. The slaw was well executed, but I could take or leave it. I prefer the slaw style of other places and I would try something else next time I visited. I'm glad I finally made it to Hoodoo Brown. I loved 1/2 of my order. I respect what HB did with the other half, but I'd prefer to explore more of the menu rather than order those things again. 4.5 Stars

Ask the Community - Hoodoo Brown BBQ

What is the best time of day on a Saturday to go for an early dinner and not have to wait an hour? 4pm?

The wait on Saturday, fluctuates but it’s usually 40 minutes to an hour after four. Since we don’t offer reservations we reccomend getting here early and putting your name on the wait as early as you can. Thanks

Does Hoodoo offer outdoor dining, or is it just indoor and takeout?

No we do not offer any outdoor seating. Takeout and inside dining at 50 percent capacity in coordination with current cdc and state guidelines. Date 9/12/20. (Subject to change with the lessening of restrictions)

How bad is the wait on Saturday around 6:30?

45min - an hour just for take-out on Saturday at 3pm!!!

What kind of BBQ do they model after? Texas, Kansas City or Tennessee?

Texas. I used to travel to Dallas, Austin, Houston and I could not find good barbeque in the NY, Ct. Area. Hoodoo Brown is the closest thing to Texas Barbeque that you will find. here. It is super and we go up there from NYC. POrtions are for… Read more

My son and I rolled into TK's American Cafe with high hopes and empty stomachs, ready to see if this stop could challenge the reigning champions of our wing universe: J. Timothy's Taverne and The Groggy Frog. Punchline: It didn't dethrone the champs... but the experience itself was still pretty great. First, the atmosphere is fantastic. Old wooden booths, high tops, TVs right at the table, KENO(!!!), and that perfect slightly chaotic sports-bar energy that tells you wings are about to happen. The décor fits the town vibe perfectly and the place just feels like a wing institution. The service? Excellent. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic -- exactly the kind of crew you want guiding you through 70+ wing sauces like a sommelier of poultry. Now... the wings. The chicken itself was excellent quality and cooked perfectly. Crispy skin, juicy meat, great size -- everything you want when the wings arrive. When we saw the massive sauce selection, we were ready for wing nirvana. But this is where the prophecy of Yelp reviews past came true. The sauces were delicious in flavor... but thin in viscosity. Instead of lovingly clinging to the wings like a good sauce should, many of them staged a dramatic escape and formed a puddle at the bottom of the platter. So instead of eating wings, we spent half the meal doing a sort of wing-dunking relay, re-dipping each bite back into the sauce lagoon. To be fair, the teriyaki and barbecue-based sauces held on better, but if you're a classic hot-sauce wing person like me, you may find your wings swimming more than sticking. The blue cheese was excellent, the celery and veggies were fresh and crisp... although the carrots were so wide they looked like they were cut for a horse with impressive jaw strength. Credit where it's due: the steak fries were fantastic, and the nachos were surprisingly great -- the kind that taste like something you could make at home... except somehow way better. So where do we land? Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Very good food overall. But on the Connecticut Wing Power Rankings, the crown still belongs to J. Timothy's and The Groggy Frog. Would I come back? Maybe... but on the drive home we passed about six intriguing Brazilian restaurants and a Pepe's pizza, and suddenly my lunch decision tree got complicated. Still, I'm glad we tried it. TK's is a fun spot with a great vibe -- just maybe bring a spoon so you can scoop the sauce back onto your wings. PS: if you stick blend/emulsify some xanthan gum into the wing sauce when you're making it hot... It will stick perfectly to the wings... In case improvement is something you're interested in

The focus of our visit for me was wings, but I also tried some tasty cheese topped chili with chips. And my son's steak fries. They were gigantic! As for the wings, the chicken was high quality and had good texture. The blue cheese was above average, and there lots of pieces of celery and carrots. Most of my comments are about the sauce. I tried 3 sauces. The Hot Buffalo Sauce, which I understand is a CT favorite, was good, but it didn't really stick to the wing. Some of the sauce may have been absorbed in to the skin of the wing, but it wasn't that noticeable flavor-wise. There was a small pool of sauce at the Bottom of the basket rather than on the wings. I suspect the wings weren't adequately tossed in the sauce. Or maybe it was a thin batch of sauce and didn't stick for that reason. In any event, the sauce situation was not ideal for the Buffalo wings. My favorite sauce was the Fire & Ice, which consisted of TK's hot sauce, Ranch and Horseradish. This sauce stuck better to the wings. It had a nice rounded flavor. Mild heat, A bit of tang. A very good sauce. My third sauce was the Dragon. This sauce also stuck to the wing well. It consisted of Honeyaki, Ginger, Suicide sauce and seasoned seeds. The sauce was pretty good, but it didn't taste like I expected given the menu description. I didn't pick up any Ginger, which was what I found intriguing about the description. The sports bar/restaurant itself was cool. There were plenty of big TV's. And smaller TV's at the tables along the outside. Service was very good and friendly. I'd definitely check out TK's again. Next time, I'd probably try to visit at a later time when there were a few more customers there because I wonder if some of the sauce issues were related to it being an off peak time. 4.25 Stars

This was my first time here, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a cute little dive bar tucked into the hillside. The parking situation wasn't great, but we found a small lot nearby, so it worked out perfectly. We were greeted right away and sat at the bar. I was surprised there was just a menu for the wings just two full pages--everything sounded so good that choosing was the hardest part. We ended up ordering three different flavors (six wings each). Caramel Soy (my pick): I knew this was going to hit, and it absolutely did. If you've ever had Korean fried chicken with a soy glaze, it had a very similar flavor profile:savory, slightly sweet, super addictive. The best part? It came with a fluffy dipping sauce. So fun. The wings were crispy and tender, easily my favorite of the night. Hot Garlic Butter (my girlfriend's pick): This one leaned more toward a classic buffalo-style sauce. Delicious, with chunks of garlic throughout. Not the most adventurous flavor, but exactly what we needed for a little spice. These wings were more heavily coated, so the skin wasn't quite as crispy, but the flavor held up. Solid 8-9/10. Cilantro Lime Tahini (our mutual pick): A bit out there for wings. I liked the flavor, but it felt better suited for a salad than chicken. Definitely our least favorite, but still not bad. 6.5/10. Overall, we'll be back--I want to try all the flavors!

The restaurant is well laid out between dining area, bar and order counter. In hindsight, I can't say I can think of another Atomic Wings with a bar. I placed my order and was offered a drink while I waited by a wonderfully mustachioed (and bearded!) gentleman. Keep that type of kind service up, I will have to make this a regular haunt! Atomic Wings does the best kind of chicken IMO. No breading, still crisp, not fussy. Their standard blue cheese is often lacking a 'zing', but I've noticed some stores don't use the franchise dressing. My order was for a 10 piece tradition wing, well done with Thai Chili sauce, and blue cheese dressing. My wings didn't get soggy, even with a ten minute drive home. It's because they have vented take out containers! No need for me to crack the box open so air can escape The wings were perfection. Thai chili had the best blend of spicy and sweet. The blue cheese tasted a bit ranch-y but was still quality and enjoyable with chunks of cheese. It wasn't until well after making short work of my wings that I realized there was no celery/carrot included. I wonder if that's because I didn't ask for them, or if they're not offered at this location. Either way, I didn't need them and barely noticed, just a mention of you're into that kind of thing.
