FANTASTIC food, drinks, service, patio area, and ambiance! I'm from Arizona and visit my in-laws in central MN 1-2x per year. However, this trip we had a wedding southeast of "the cities" where wife and our two kids loved that menu online and decided to check it out on our way to the wedding the next day. Honestly, this has been my fav restaurant in all of Minnesota. Ribeye, walleye, pretzel, and drinks were perfect! Oh boy...where to start? I guess I will start with the pros. First, I always like to mention what day and time I visited a restaurant. I decided to get takeout for lunch on a Monday afternoon. I have been on a kick lately trying Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwiches, or in Barley and Vine's case, the Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich. That was the main reason I wanted to stop by for lunch. I placed a to-go order, but we have also dined inside several times before. Starting with the positives, the staff is always very friendly and welcoming. There is really no issue there. The staff is fantastic. The overall vibe and ambiance of the restaurant are incredibly nice as well. It leans toward a fancier, higher-end, upscale atmosphere. I honestly think that may be part of the reason several reviews are so positive and why people may perceive the food as being higher quality or better tasting. We have also had brunch here more than once. We are generally not brunch people, but we have really enjoyed the brunch items we have ordered in the past. I am hoping we can come back for brunch again, and maybe I can eventually write an updated review with a higher rating. So why only 3/5 stars? My most recent to-go visit left me incredibly disappointed. To start, the Tennessee "Hot" Chicken Sandwich is not hot at all. "Hot" is absolutely not the correct word to use. It should probably just be called a Tennessee Chicken Sandwich, and honestly, even using "Tennessee" or "Nashville" does not seem accurate. This seemed like a basic Fried Chicken Sandwich made from a frozen chicken filet with far more breading than actual chicken. It is not the most pleasant photo to look at, but I attached a picture of the partially eaten sandwich to this review. You can clearly see how little chicken meat there actually was. They put white BBQ sauce on the sandwich, but I do not really have anything particularly good or bad to say about it. It was just kind of there. It did not improve the sandwich, but it did not necessarily make it worse either. The fries were also just fine. They seemed to be lacking flavor and may have been slightly burnt. Speaking of overcooked, the chicken sandwich also tasted overcooked. Overall, the sandwich and fries were simply not very good. I would never order the sandwich again, and I would probably substitute the fries for a different side in the future. Another issue is the repeated delay with to-go orders. I have ordered takeout from Barley and Vine maybe three or four times, and every single time the order has been late. I usually arrive only one or two minutes before the scheduled pickup time. Sometimes I even wait in the parking lot because I do not want to arrive too early. Every single time, the order is not ready at the scheduled time. This time, I only had to wait about six minutes past the pickup time. However, during my previous to-go experience a few weeks earlier, I waited more than 15 minutes past the scheduled pickup time. This has also happened during other visits. Finally, everything usually comes down to whether the meal is worth the price. I paid $17.77 for the Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich with fries. That included a 48 cent credit card surcharge. They add a 3% surcharge to all credit card payments, which automatically leaves a bad taste in my mouth at any restaurant. It's not something they have to do, to support higher wages or whatever they want to tell you. It's something they CHOOSE to do. Other restaurants don't do, or they simply increase their menu prices 3%. Which I would rather have than yet another fee in this world. Regardless, the meal was simply not worth the price. The sandwich was not flavorful, was not spicy, did not contain enough chicken, and tasted overcooked. The fries also seemed overcooked and lacked flavor. It was not a good value. You could drive a little farther down the road to Dave's Hot Chicken and get a more flavorful meal, a larger portion, and a lower price. This review feels harsh, but I am hoping it comes across as constructive criticism if management happens to read it. Overall, I cannot recommend ordering takeout from Barley and Vine. I cannot recommend the Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich, and I do not particularly recommend the fries either. They were not absolutely terrible, but they were not great. I am still hoping to visit Barley and Vine again. I will likely avoid ordering takeout because it has consistently been a poor experience. However, I hope we have a better experience the next time we dine inside, and I will definitely be ordering something else. read more

We went here once years ago and weren't too impressed, however this visit was great! The food was excellent. We split the berry salad with chicken and the pepperoni goat cheese flatbread. The salad was amazing I'd definitely recommend it, it came with a lot of berries and Brie cheese which I haven't had together in a salad before. I went to Barley and Vine with a large group of around 16, and they did a fantastic job accommodating us, and they managed to do it with fantastic service. Had us seated quickly and got drinks out pretty quickly. During this dinner I drank a Cherry Manhattan and ate Cajun Bourbon pasta. I typically love a Manhattan but I wasn't impressed with this Cherry Manhattan. It seemed like it was pure whisky and a drop of sweet Vermouth. The ratio of the cocktail was definitely all wrong. Good thing I like straight whiskey I guess. The Cajun Bourbon pasta was good, but I wouldn't venture to say great. It was overly creamy and just didn't pack any spice that you'd expect to be associated with Cajun. Overall it just lacked a richness in flavor. I would still recommend this spot despite food and drink being average. Barley and Vine had a beautiful location with some magnificent wood working that is a feast for the eyes. Additionally they bring in live music on Saturdays so that adds some enjoyment if you appreciate loud live music. 4/5 due to these many factors mentioned. read more

We sat on the lovely patio and it was very easy to hear each other and have conversation there. The menu provided a good selection of foods and everyone was pleased with their dish, however it was the crafted cocktails, including the seasonal specials, that really stole the show and are certainly worth a try if that's your thing. Service was friendly and prompt. The thing that holds it back from being a five star experience I would say is the atmosphere. Came in on Sunday during the brunch hour (which is before 2pm). Patio (and inside) didn't seem overly busy so thought our party of 8 was going to be no sweat. Nope - was there nearly two hours. I am only belly aching because I saw smaller tables in after us and out before us. We asked multiple times for napkins and water - to the point where we fetched it ourselves and then the waiter was annoyed. (It was sunny this particular day and we Minnesotans were breaking a slight sweat and we were served greasy appetizers without any assistance with it - and those same smaller tables got refills and where able to wipe their hands just fine) Felt like the brunch items we ordered sat under the heat lamp too long as the bread items were hard and harder - some having the consistency of a crouton. For the price I was NOT super impressed with the food or the service. However - looking at the other reviews - I will offer that I am an advocate that everyone has an off day and maybe they were understaffed this particular afternoon. I've avoided writing this review because it's not an easy one. I honestly feel like B&V gives me whiplash. Some of what they do is SO good. Had their fish sandwich recently, one of the best bites I've had in a long time. But it was served with cold, chewy waffle fries. And their fish tacos? Different story, super bland. Barley + Vine is one of my favorite restaurants in Lakeville! Service is always friendly and fast. It gets pretty busy on the weekends so I would make a reservation online. Some of my favorite dishes (in order of preference): -- Skillet Cookie is actually insane. There's such a variety of textures from the melting ice cream, chewy caramel, crunchy macadamia nuts, the crisp cookie edges, and the soft cookie middle. -- Creme Brulee French Toast (brunch) is crazy good. The cream sauce on top pairs so well with this one. -- Cheese curds are some of the best I've had in MN. They're gooey and chewy and the breading is very light. The smoked blueberry ketchup goes really well with it too. -- Southern Belle Burger is delicious and so smoky. I think their burgers are the best mains here. I've tried other mains like pastas, flatbreads, and bowls and haven't enjoyed them nearly as much as the burgers. Last time I was there I mentioned that I was sharing the burger and they even split it onto two different plates for us which was really nice. -- Cinnamon Roll Skillet (brunch) is also good, but if you have to pick one def get the Creme Brulee French Toast over this one. -- Maple Bacon Mini donuts are warm and delicious. They taste like what you'd get at a fair. -- The Chicken Wild Rice Soup is creamy and has toasted wild rice on top which is a nice texture contrast. read more

Our group of 4 came for lunch at noon on a Saturday. We were seated immediately. The server was attentive and very kind. He explained the menu and specials. The food came out hot and fresh. The Brussels with Blu cheese & bacon are like candy. Get them. The apple & goat cheese salad was fresh and very good. It came with the dressing and balsamic on the side. The sausage/mushroom pizza was a big portion for one. It was very good. The crust was crispy and the sauce was flavorful. This restaurant is very inviting. Lots of seating with booths and tables. While this wasn't our first visit to Barley and Vine, our typical stops usually happen on holidays like Easter or Mother's Day where they have the brunch buffet, so we're usually not ordering off the menu, but this was a special occasion to meet the newborn of one of our good friends over Sunday brunch. Our group of 8 (plus high chair) tried a wide selection of breakfast and lunch menu items, so starting things off with beverages, I was the only one who had the $5 mimosas, while everyone else couldn't resist ordering the drink special of the day: a pumpkin spice espresso martini. Made with pumpkin spice simple syrup, they knocked it out of the park! After drinks, we started off the table with some of their spicy cauliflower (cooked ala boneless buffalo wing style) and cinnamon roll skillet. The cauliflower was perfectly breaded and seasoned but then dipped in the avocado ranch.... Amazing! The cinnamon rolls were nice and warm and just coated in gooey icing (PS I saved a little bit to have for dessert). The new dad ordered the Bree burger while I got the Southern Belle Burger with their sweet potato waffle fries, which are probably some of my favorite fries anywhere! I tried the chicken wild rice soup from one of our friends, and it was absolutely delicious. Another friend ordered the Steak bowl, my wife also had the Bree Burger and a side of the specialty salad AKA the summer berry, and the new mother ordered the breakfast flatbread.  The restaurant wasn't too busy, and the noise level was perfect with a nice soundtrack of music while our food came out at a pleasant pace, & our drinks were always filled. We came here around 3:30 on a Thursday for happy hour and sat on the patio! The patio atmosphere was great, you could either sit in the sun or shade, and there were plenty of tables. We had someone at our table that had a few allergies and they took it super seriously, which we greatly appreciated. They delivered her meals separately and with gloves on every time. Our food was fantastic, and will definitely be coming back. Our service was good, but as the place got busier our waitress seemed distracted. The atmosphere is a little different, as the layout of the restaurant has a couple levels and there is a bar and some other side booths near the bar. They also had live music the night we were there. Service was great. Friendly and fast and had good recommendations for drinks and food. Tried the spicy cauliflower, since I can't help myself if I see this on any menu. Was good, would get again. For my entrée, got the coconut chicken bowl. Man, I could have easily had another, it was delicious. Not overly sugary, just tasty. Also had a seasonal sidecar cocktail. We decided to pop in for happy hour on a Friday night and we had a fantastic experience! We started with salads, our party tried the Wedge salad and watermelon feta salad. Both were delicious, but the watermelon feta was probably one of the best salads I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and flavorful and very well balanced between sweet, crunchy, and tangy. (I didn't get a picture, I was too excited). We decided to just share some happy hour bites for our dinner. We loved the fish tacos, chicken wings with dry rub, and coconut shrimp! I can't even pick a favorite, they were all wonderful. The fish tacos had great flavor with perfectly cooked fresh fish and yummy sauces. We were surprised at the amount of chicken wings for the happy hour price! The wings were perfectly seasoned and cooked, very tender and fell off the bone. The coconut shrimp was tender and juicy with perfectly coconutty, crispy breading. All of our food came hot and fresh. Service was just as great as the food. Our server, Erika, was so sweet and very friendly and attentive. The other staff were great as well. Very disappointing. We have been to this restaurant many times. We called to confirm if dogs were allowed on the patio even though they claim they do. They confirmed yes they allow dogs. When we showed up ~20 minutes later, we were told the dog can no longer come because they are only allowed Sunday -Wednesday. It's been a couple years since I've visited Barley & Vine, but I will say I was very pleased with my recent experience! I recently moved back to the area and a friend and I were looking for a nice spot to have lunch. I chose Barley and Vine after seeing that their menu was quite diverse in options. It wasn't very busy for a Friday afternoon. We were seating promptly and order a cocktail for each of us. I chose the Magician which was pear vodka, triple sec, simple, lemon and moscato. Absolutely delicious! My friend ordered their custom Old Fashioned, it was good however neither of us were a big fan of the chosen whiskey. To start we ordered the prosciutto and fig crustinis. These were amazing!! The portion sizing was generous and the flavors were absolutely immaculate. I could have eaten these crustinis all day long. They were sweet from the jam, crunch with the toasted crustini and the prosciutto, and just a tad bit of spice from the cream cheese. For my main meal I chose the Ravioli with grilled chicken. This was also very delicious. It came with a cream sauce mixed with squash and zucchini. Originally it also have roasted tomatoes however I have an allergy and they were wonderful enough to make it for me without. My friend ordered the Chicken Florentine Melt and really enjoyed it. Really loved the space but was pretty disappointed with the service. My friend and I came in for wine and a cheese board this past Saturday. We sat at the bar. Our server hardly even looked at us the entire time we were there. It was seriously so bizarre. Not one time did she come over on her own. There was only four people total at the bar so I really don't get it. I'm not going to rate this place super low stars because everything else was lovely. Not sure we will be back though. read more

The food was good overall, we had the steak amd also the teriyaki salmon. The broccoli was a bit undercooked, but that could be a personal preference- either way, could barely cut it with a fork. Atmosphere was good, it was a Sunday evening around 6 pm, restaurant wasn't busy, tons of open tables be we were placed by an over the top loud lady. We slid down a booth on our own (without giving her the eye or making a scene). When they left an elderly lady at the table came and apologized- that was nice of her. This is a beautiful restaurant between Apple Valley and Lakeville! The inside and outdoor patio are both nice! The patio is first come first serve and you can make reservations for the inside! Plenty of parking in their lot. Our server was wonderful! We had Bethany and she provided quick, friendly and attentive service. She gave us plenty of time to look at the menu and refilled the water glasses throughout the meal. The ambiance in here is "casual fancy." I didn't feel like I needed to be overly dressed up but it still has a more "upscale" vibe to it! The lighting was pretty and all the dark wood made it feel cozy. The food was VERY good!! The only item I had that I didn't like was the Tennessee hot chicken sandwich. I didn't like the texture of the chicken or the coating on the outside. It also wasn't spicy, it was sweet.... The Cajun steak bites and cheese curds were fabulous! The margarita flatbread and desserts were also very tasty!! I will absolutely be coming back! The place looks nice inside, and they have a huge patio outback with a bon fire pit. Our waiter was awesome, he was attentive and came to check on us throughout the dinner service. We started off with some cheese curds and the saffron mussels, both very good. My son had the bison burger, it was too big for him to finish. It was cooked to perfection and it was massive. I myself had the Tennessee chicken sandwich. I don't care for it much. The chicken was massive but didn't have much flavor. We went for our valentines dinner here and they had a valentines special! I thought it was a great value and the food was so good. It was $100 and you got 2 glasses of wine, an appetizer, two entree and a dessert from the chosen menu of food. We got the crab cakes to start. I thought they were very good! Then I got the London broil and my husband got the truffle ravioli. My steak was GREAT. It was slightly sweet and just interesting flavor. I liked it a lot. My husband said his ravioli was fulling and a good portion size. We finished with the crème brûlée and I regret not taking a picture. It was SO CUTE! I've never had crème brûlée with chocolate chips on top. Delicious. Our server was great. She took good care of us and checked in on us often. The only thing we both hated about this restaurant was the big weird shaped door handles on the doors coming in and on the bathroom. We seriously hated them so much. Pretty nice spot for brunch. I haven't had any food that hasn't been delicious. Their mimosa's have the right amount of orange juice added (which is to say a very light dusting). I also appreciate the sort of farmhouse industrial vibes. Service can be a little slow, but staff are all very friendly and competent.
