At some point during our virgin Colorado trip, we stopped into Beaver Liqours and I walked out of the door with a roguish smile and a poster that hung on my bedroom wall until my senior year in high school and then travelled with me to Utah and graced my dorm room wall until my sophomore year in college. It was lost during one of my many moves. Fast forward four decades, I stopped in Avon a few days ago specifically to pick up a t-shirt for my girl and walked out with a smaller reprint of the same poster. I call that a win. Same smile too. High prices!? Huh? It's frickin' Beaver Creek! I am happy that Beaver Liqours is still in business and remains family-owned and I appreciate that they haven't shied away from their sense of humor after all of these years. Seriously, if you can't work out from the name of the place their personality ... You're probably not the brightest bulb.

It wouldn't be unexpected, would it? Not so, the Colorado Country General Store! Their prices on food are shockingly inexpensive! Bread, Milk, Eggs... depending on where you are from these are at the prices or below what you are used to paying! True also for the surprisingly complete shelves of groceries. At first glance it didn't look like much, but we were surprised to find everything on our list! This store has more than groceries and household items - like the true general stores you will find various sundry items from batteries to decor pillows to snow sleds - all at reasonable or surprisingly inexpensive prices! Need a helmet for skiing or snowboarding? I was wishing I hadn't bought my helmet (which I purchased on sale) before arriving in Colorado - here at the Colorado Country General Store, a K2 brand helmet was normally priced at $20 LESS than the sale price I paid!! Other ski and boarding gear is also available at great prices. No mountain store would be complete without Colorado souvenirs, and yes you will find these here as well. Friendly proprietors and an awesome store - you wouldn't be wrong if you stopped here in Empire instead of Idaho Springs or Georgetown!

The hospitality they showed me was unbelievable. They helped me find the local 4x4 rescue, and were generally great people.
