I could have sworn I reviewed this wonderful nursery in Leander. Farmer's appears to be small but they have a huge landscaping area that borders 183. This is a hidden gem and it took me a few years to discover them. Prices are cheaper than the big box nurseries and the quality of their plants is much better. All of their employees are very knowledgeable and equally helpful. I do like that they have a great selection of potting soil and fertilizer and they provide guidance regarding which to use based on your purchase. I've purchased a number of roses, a dwarf magnolia tree, and a number of potted plants and all are thriving. The dwarf magnolia is at least 12 - 15 feet high now. These folks are a great alternative to the big box store at the corner of 183 and Chrystal Falls. read more

I went during the cold snap so not a lot of plants outside. What was outside was very well cared for and very reasonably priced. If you know of a place with better prices I'd like to hear about it, because I think their prices are very good. A lot of trees, grasses and cactus/succulents. I was offered help but declined - I found my Texas Sotol immediately, and just enjoyed a walk through their large selection. Better Business Bureau complaint: These people are a "family" owned business yet don't want to acknowledge the damages they did to our truck by their employee. I made a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they said they have reached out to Farmer's Nursery multiple times but they have yet to respond. If they cared about their customers and wanted to keep them, they would own up & pay for the damages they caused. I would be very cautious of this place. Someone didn't even know this existed. It's very hidden in Leander. They have reasonable prices and a good selection of plants. Found a pair of pride of Barbados plants in much healthier condition than 2 other nurseries nearby and for half the price. I believe they also sell sod and top soil. I'll be back. read more

I have shopped here for years. I bought a post oak recently that died immediately. I went to speak with someone about it and the manager nor owner was there. I emailed them 3x with no one bothering to respond. Although everyone is friendly when you get there, beware of the lack of concern for the products they sell or long time customers. read more

This place is seriously lacking in the customer department. Our experience was awful. I'm annoyed I spent any money there but won't make that mistake in the future and will never give them my business again. Unfortunately, based off of the previous reviews this is ongoing, showing their true colors & lack of desire to improve the customer experience. Our interaction was with the same older woman as described in some of the other reviews who was running the checkout. There wasn't much help to be had, not a big deal. I understand it's hard to hire & retain these days. Upon checking out I asked about Texas lilac. I was told in a disgusted tone that they were in the business of selling plants with leaves, not twigs. That could have been worded in so many different ways that didn't make the customer feel like crap. Then we were reprimanded for bringing the small wagon into the building because it scares the cat. Bought some sod here to re sod my backyard I didn't pay for delivery as we were trying to save as much as possible, the workers on site helped us load the sod and set some aside as we ran out of room in the back of our SUV. The staff were helpful and the place is so cute and relaxing. It was my first time here thankfully it was a smooth sod buying experience. read more

Prices are cheaper than those in the area. Their flowers seem healthier and look better than other places in the area. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I am a newbie and really clueless to many things plants, but they took their time with me, made helpful recommendations and I left feeling good with what I need to do next. I am grossly disappointed with not only the 2 pallets of grass we purchased but the "solution" offered to us. We purchased a pallet and a half a few weeks back and we're pleased. We just purchased two pallets and it is the worst! Not only was the middle of the pallet bone dry and yellow but the cuts were terrible. They actually put pieces that were less than six inches long and three inches wide. There was no uniformity nor consistency. There were holes in the middle of a hood amount of pieces and even nutsage growing on a few of the pieces. If the grass we got before wasn't so darn good I wouldn't be as angry. I contacted the manager and was told I could bring it back and they'd order more. Unfortunately I have to lay sod for this customer this weekend. They offered no other solution. I am now having to refund my customer for 3/4 of a pallet. We were happy to shop local instead of going to the grass outlet in Austin and even pay a little more to support local. But not if the product does not stand up to the quality we were guaranteed. I am so disappointed. read more

I'll update more after more experiences but so far I like this place. They have yards of different kinds of dirt and sand plus a few types of gravel. We came here just to get a yard of dirt. We got landscape dirt since we might try to grow some grass on it. A yard of dirt was ~$38 after tax and they used a small skid steer to load it in the bed of a truck. I think I was in an out in 10 minutes. Their selection of gravel is not that of whittlesey landscape but they are located very conveniently to cedar park / Leander. My suggestion is if you need rock or dirt give this place a try! They also have quite a bit of trees and shrubs which we need to explore more. read more

Don't bother wasting your time going there. They had some good trees and bushes with decent prices but I don't think they want to sell them. I went during the week early afternoon and was the only person there initially. The first employee acted put out that I was asking questions and was not helpful. She told me that she was leaving and to ask the woman at the office any other questions. Long story short: there were many items I would have liked to have purchased but I refuse to spend money at a business that clearly does not know a thing about customer service OR common courtesy. We actually found this place by accident when we got my car windows tinted in this area. We Moved to Leander about 6 months ago, my husband and I love to visit local nurseries to get ideas and of course find beautiful plants. This place was actually a lot bigger than it seemed, and had the most beautiful selection of plants, trees, shrubs, and also mulch, top soils, compost and landscaping rocks. The quality and selection is much better than your local Lowe's. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Support local, this place is truly a hidden gem in Leander for nurseries. *** This review is for the terrible customer service I received over the phone*** I wanted to support a local business instead of shopping at Lowe's or Home Depot, so I came here for a plant and also to inquire for future landscaping needs. Mr. Farmer was very helpful as he approached me. I am not an expert , in fact I'm trying to learn more about plants and gardening. After receiving tips on how to care for my new $25 plant, I drove on home happily. Mr. Farmer is a helpful guy. I thought I'd be getting my trees from them when our house is built. Two weeks after my visit, my plant is dying. I decided to call to see where I went wrong. I spoke with the elder lady who rang me up the day I bought the plant. I asked my question and she asked me some questions. I guess it's hilarious to her that I am not an expert at gardening because she laughed at my ignorance. It was a terrible phone call exchange. To genuinely need help and advice only to be laughed at. Needless to say.... I will be shopping elsewhere. read more

Only ok for me. I would call this place an expensive, premium nursery with a mixed bag on customer service. I've shopped there several times and purchased many things from plants to vines to trees. I've always liked that I was supporting local. I have noticed a common trend every time we go...the grounds are nice and the help is very friendly until you get to check out time. The customer service person that usually works the check out (Cathy?) really isn't very customer focused. She's a bit surly and regularly raises her voice verbally or via radio to staff. I also haven't found her to be particularly helpful with any last minute questions I've had. My experience is that I always spend more than I expect there and end with a bit of a bummer interaction at the end. I've also learned that once you buy something there, it is yours. If it fails, that was your fault and no returns/exchanges. I honestly understand a reasonable policy for returns because there are some shady folks out there. I lost several things in the recent snow storms. I didn't really expect much from them when I asked about it and I got exactly that. I'm having to rebuy some vines that froze. Stumbled across this place while in the area at another business. Wasn't aware a nursery was back there. My wife and I love going to local nurseries instead of your big box store places. We were impressed. Had a wide variety to choose from plus a lot of different top soils, compost, and mulch. The place is a lot bigger than it looks from the street. We got some great help from Elise. We bought some ground cover plants to compliment some hibiscus we already had in our flower bed in front of our house. She asked where we were putting them and what else they'd be with. She recommended using something else as the water needs are very different and one or the other would not do well. She pointed us in the direction of other ground cover plants that are more in line with what we already had planted. Thankful she asked. She saw us all the way through even checking out, then helped me load up the bags of mulch, mushroom compost, and lawn fertilizer we had also purchased. As we all know, if you live in Leander or Cedar Park, your dirt isn't really dirt, it's a fine mix of caliche w/ grass on top. My wife and I were in the market for a Texas Mountain Laurel, aka the Mescal bean plant. Home Despotism had a poor selection and whatya know...their people in the nursery didn't know jack about plants to grow in zone 8b...a side note...it freezes here at least 2x a year. Anyways...we venture over to Farmer's grass and they have 3 gallon Mountain Laurels that were only $2 more (a negligible difference) than the Home Despot. We also bought mulch for our beds and their "garden mix" dirt for my raised beds. Well to say the least, they have a great selection of shrubs and plants and the lady (Kathy?) there is quite knowledgable. We bought a nandina and jessamine and veggies and seeds. One time we were looking for salvia, and the man told us to try cuttings. Well ya know...if you can't afford a plant, he gives you tips on how to propogate your own. Now that's cool. Got shade? they have plants that like shade too. It's not all fun in the sun at my place. Take that home despotism...Leander Local business (1) | Home Depot (0). They also have organic solutions for your lawn, garden... Sometimes, when Kathy isn't there, the people aren't as helpful. But all in all, this place is great if you want to shop local and get some knowledge along the way. Gardeners are always trying new things. So if you need dirt, bring your truck, i think they charge for delivery. They have a nice selection of trees and grass as well. read more

Not right ON 183 it's a little hard to find. In the market for a tree? You might keep this place in mind. You want to grow some veggies in this hard-clay CP soil? Then get some of their compost or a cubic yard of soil. That's what I had them deliver for my raised beds in the fall and I'm still picking sweet lettuce that has overwintered well. And how 'bout those tomatoes? They got near as tall as me I tell you, they know how to mix their dirt in this plant nursery. They've got landscape plants and grasses that do well in Texas clime I bought some grapes: black Spanish so the trellis they can climb. The ambiance is not "gift shop" it is more like "working farm"; you almost expect a rooster to walk out behind a barn. Had the owner come up to our house to look over the property and give us an estimate on a few things He seem like a nice guy. We never heard back from him and he never returned my multiple calls. I even stopped down a couple of times and left him a note asking him to call me. He never did. I think they are focused on commercial work, but that is no excuse for unprofessionalism. read more

They offered care tips on all of the plants we purchased as well. Parking was nice and easy, too, which is always nice for a plant nursery on Memorial Day weekend! Kind of a mixed experience. I waited outside as I was asked to as they only want one customer in the store because of Covid. When it was my turn I went into the office and was asked about what I wanted. I had a few questions. One of my first questions was that dillo dirt compost was sold by 20 quarts and I wanted to know how that converted to curt. She said I could look it up on the internet. I said but you are the ones selling it. I had a few more questions in order to determine the best products for my project and she seemed annoyed by my questions. I asked if I could get help loading and she said that there's only one person working out in the yard. She then called for someone to help me. When I pulled my car up to yard men jumped right on loading for me. I've shopped there before and had a friendlier welcome. read more
