Alright, let's start with the good. This place is cute. Like super cute rustic farm cute. Nice work with the decor. And the location is fabulous as well. Lots to see as you wander up and down this stretch of La Mesa. Well done with the location. We got there for a late lunch and the menu is limited at this time (just salads and flatbread). That's cool. We tried an interesting-sounding carrot salad and a flatbread pizza. The carrot salad was literally just a few carrots smothered in dressing. Hmm. The pizza, one slice in, was good stuff. Upon starting the second slice, I bit down on something hard. I spit out what seemed to be a pebble? Or piece of glass or coal? I'm still not sure what it was, but it chipped my tooth, super bummer. Service was just so-so. Our waiter seemed friendly, but after delivering our food, he was never to be found again. And I was told it's because I ordered my steak medium. When I ordered it medium rare. I decided to take one of my friends to Farmer's Table in La Mesa after some deliberation on where to spend our night out. We don't get the opportunity to get away from the kids and family that often, so a night to ourselves is a unique treat. Unfortunately, Farmer's Table does only one thing well: ruining your night and making you feel like complete crap. We arrived and elected to sit at the bar. It was fairly slow, as it was a Monday evening. There were only 5 other people in the bar area. The bartender was furiously putting dishes in the dishwasher, and finally looked up at us just long enough to toss three menus across the bar practically into our laps. "Not a big deal" I thought...all will be well as soon as we order a drink. Sadly, we never get that far. While we looked at the menu, I saw a delicious-looking carrot soup. With some difficulty, I got the bartender's attention, and asked her for a sample. You'd have thought I asked her for a rocket ship to Mars. She looked at me incredulously for a solid 10-15 seconds before finally saying "WHAT?!" Honestly, I didn't think the request was so ridiculous, so I repeated myself that I would like to try the soup before ordering it. She then said, in the rudest and most condescending manner she could muster: "you can TRY a CUP." And then kept starting at me like I was insane. My friend looked at me with the expression of "wait...what did she just say??" She then called over one of the bussers and said "can you go into the back, and get, I dunno a RAMEKIN or something, for this guy to TRY the soup?!?!" Then looked right at me and just laughed at me. She continued laughing while staring at me for another few seconds before turning back to her dishwasher. It took a few seconds for this experience to sit in. However, once it did, I looked at my friend who asked if I wanted to leave. Replying that I did indeed think that this was overboard and unnecessary, I told the bartender (who was back at the dishwasher): "hey, it's ok. I think we're actually just going to take off." She then looked up, right at me and snapped "OK BYE!" The treatment we received was the worst I have ever had from a bartender. I did speak to the manager before we left. The young lady was apologetic and did offer us the chance to sit far away from the bartender; however, after the treatment we had, I had no desire to be in the restaurant at all. I'll never go back, and unless you want to be treated as I was, for absolutely no reason and right after you walk in the door, I suggest you find another restaurant to patronize. This review is a little late we dined here in late April, but it didn't take away from the great taste of the food and rustic farm to table feel they live by. There ingredients are all local and organic, that brings out the amazing taste of the food they serve. We enjoyed the pork belly Pie, Bone in Ribeye, Bacon Mac & Cheese, Lobster Bisque, Limoncello cake and the Creme Brule. Loved everything we had, pie was great pork belly, goat cheese. mozz, baby kale and pesto...such a great combination. Rib-eye was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right...it went great with our DAUO red blend. Mac and Cheese had ginormous bacon bits..yumm....the bigger the bacon the better. Soup and dessert were all divine. We had the opportunity to meet and speak to the owner Vincenzo, what a great guy, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Our server Brad and helper Mr.Santos were great as well. Brad recommended a red blend for dinner that we loved DAOU and Mr.Santos kept our table nice and neat and water glasses filled. Thank You!!! It's been a few years since I've been back, and after todays visit I don't know that I would go back. For one the coffee was awful, no amount of doctoring it could fix it so k didn't drink it. The utensils were dirty and made you question what else hasn't been cleaned. And lastly the service, you could tell that they were short staffed as the waitress basically forgot we were there so we had to go find them when we needed something. The restaurant is very cute and I enjoyed their decor. Would recommend! I've been here many times with good service. Tonight was a very different experience. It took 15 minutes for someone to take a drink order. In the meantime a busser brought me water. Then a waiter came by, who was not my waiter, but realized I had been sitting there for quite some time and he took my drink order and I quickly put in a food order because I thought I should try and expedite things for myself. Food came out in a very timely manner. I was pleased that the kitchen wasn't delayed as well. My pasta (mushroom fettuccine) was under salted but I was able to remedy that myself. Texture of the pasta was wonderful and they were generous with the ingredients, I was pleased to have so much asparagus. There was a large party at a table adjacent to me and in the time I was there they made four comments about the lack of service. When I was finished eating it took 20 minutes for a server to come by and ask if I was OK and if I needed a box. In the meantime the large party next to me left and on the way out wished me good luck that I would get some service. Then while my server was getting me a box I asked another staff member if they were short a server tonight and they said "I don't think so." I don't think I've ever been so grateful to actually be carrying cash so that I could leave it on the table and not have to deal with whatever excessive length of time it would take to do a credit card transaction. Once I exited the restaurant I had to walk by the hostess podium and I mentioned that when I come here service is typically very good but that tonight it was awful and said that someone should probably let the manager know that my server was having difficulty managing her time tonight. I only get so many opportunities to take myself out for a nice meal and it's highly frustrating that the experience be so tainted by poor service. I also really wanted dessert but had run out of the patience to prolong the experience any further. All in all this evening was a waste of my limited alone time and a waste of my money. I wish I would've looked at more recent reviews before going. Now that I'm looking many are discussing the excessive delays in service. I don't know where to start. I've hesitated so much on writing a review because I'm not one to care to write reviews but this location was not the best experience at all. Working in the food service industry for 17 years now and I hate to be someone to pick at things but everytime I am craving something to eat around my area and look around on Yelp I just want to erase this location off my list. A few months back : First time I came in I sat down with my dog in the patio. I got a little anxious with my dog since she doesn't do well in public and wanted to give it a try with her eating out with me. It took a minute for a server to come by and at least bring water. The longer I waited the more anxious I was with my dog barking at another dog coming onto the patio so I politely got up and let a worker know I had to head out elsewhere but just wanted to let someone know only because I was anxious with my dog the longer I sat around in the patio and also to hint, it has been a minute for someone to greet the table, half the staff stared at me with the "what was wrong" look and didn't respond, but I just had to leave. Awkward moment for sure. (It wasn't busy and the servers were standing around talking to each other) I wanted to really give it a try again so second time I came in with my friend that I had brought along with. The server from before who was supposed to be my server on my first visit saw me and was my server again. She didn't seem to have a positive attitude around my friend and I and I felt rushed when the order was being taken. Our drinks came out way longer than expected and every-time the server was close by she didn't seem to want to acknowledge the table. I was polite the whole time and in conversation with my friend while all this was going on so it wasn't like I was focused the entire time on service but it was quite obvious how much it felt like we were being ignored. Food came out and the quality of food was very subpar. Food was soggy and had no flavor and lack of presentation for sure. I only share this experience with disappointment because of my first time visit to a Farmers Table was in Chula Vista. This location had I left with such a great experience, the quality of food was on point and service was attentive and super friendly made me want to come back. Going to the Chula Vista location reminded me of the exact same restaurant concept group in which I currently work in, which is that farm to table, scratch kitchen experience.. coming to the La Mesa location was a huge, huge 360 and left a sour taste in my mouth that would never want me coming back to this location for sure. I know everyone else's experience is going to be different but twice in a row is a no go for me :( . read more

Great spot right in the heart of La Mesa. The interior is so cute, I fell in love with the bathrooms. I got so many home decor ideas at this restaurant. But that's not why we went. We were here for my birthday brunch with my boyfriend's parents. We really had a great time. I usually don't order coffee out, but got a cappuccino to celebrate and it was delicious! And was I ready to get moving after that! The food was delicious. I ordered the jambalaya with 3 sunny side up eggs and is was delish! The boyfriend got the short rib benedict with truffle potatoes, and let me tell you, those potatoes were AWESOME. The short rib benedict was pretty good too. The meat had that melt in you mouth quality we like so much. The boyfriend's dad got the pancakes, which were nice and fluffy, with just a touch of crispness on the outside. Hands down! One of the best restaurants in ALL of San Diego!! Took the hubs here to celebrate Fathers Day! Best service, best Pinot Noir ( Parducci California), the Fathers Day special which included crab cakes, a carrot salad, filet mignon, lava cake and I ordered the pistachio cavatelli and a limenchello cake. My son ordered their house burger and my daughters ordered butter pasta and spaghetti and meatballs. The food, service, ambiance and experience was wonderful. We have met friends and have had business lunches here. It is noisey inside. Outdoor seaating isn't so bad. Service is okay at best. The entire experiment was subpar. From waiting at an empty hostess stand for 10 minutes while various employee walked by without even acknowledging us. To our waiter, Didier, repeatedly having to come back to the table to ask us to repeat our order because he didn't write down our drink or dinner order and couldn't remember what he wanted. The app took about 25 minutes to come out and it was already a pre-prepared jar of mushrooms and olives. Not sure why there was a delay. Patio seating was nice and was about the only good thing about the place. Just moved to La Mesa and several of our neighbors raved about the place. Me and my fiancée went to Farmers Table for our anniversary since we've been here multiple times. We got seated promptly but it took more than 10 min. to get acknowledged and that's because I waved a server down. It was our anniversary and decided not to get bothered by the lack of service we decided to get a bottle of wine and went down the list and didn't have 3 bottles of our choice so decided to go with water for the evening so I told my fiancé "guess it's not that bad and we get to save money" as the evening progressed our food delivery was lacking in taste and in quality. I love this restaurant! The ambience and service is great. Inside, it feels like a warm, cozy home. Every time we go there, we are welcomed like family. We have tried most things on the menu. Our favorite is the quinoa salad, the beet salad, flatbread pizza, and their egg burrito for breakfast. do not forget the potatoes with Parmesan cheese! The portions are large and the food comes hot. The desserts are to kill for! Don't ask me to share! Valerie, one of the managers, knows us by name and always greets us with a warm and friendly smile. She makes sure that we have the best service and experience possible. She makes us feel at home! We love their happy hour and come often to sit at the open air bar. Angelica is our favorite bartender and sees us and is welcoming and knows what we like. Parking is on the street and is metered and easy. There's a small lot in the back but it's generally full. A friend recommended this restaurant to my husband and I for a recent date night. We went on a Friday and it was very busy but with a reservation we were seated right away. The menu choices were very impressive and it even states were the different foods come from locally. We had a burrata appetizer that was phenomenal and ribeye and pork chop for dinner. Worst breakfast and service ever. It took over 10 minutes for the bartender/waitress to even acknowledge me and she had 4 people at the bar, I finally had to ask for a menu. Then another 10 minutes for her to take my order. Then I got the short rib hash which was gross, fatty and just a pool of sauce with some fatty half cooked meat & potatoes floating in it and no silverware. Finally another bartender noticed & asked if it was okay which I said no, and he offered to take it off (it also didn't come with the English muffin it was suppose to). I asked for just a toasted English muffin and that took over 10 minutes and wasn't even toasted and at that point I ask for my check & the waitress acts as though she's doing me a favor.
