Super Dee super cute spot. Too bad the food did not match the vibes. For some reason, all the dishes were uber salty.
Solid happy hour spot. Ordered the adult happy meal and it did not disappoint. Definitely didn't leave hungry. The staff were nice and this place was very clean and spacious. If you haven't tried Herb & Wood come by, as you will not be disappointed.

Had the best experience here! The staff were super friendly and attentive. The service was top notch! They have a bottle of water at your table, but our cups never went empty, they made sure it stayed full. Our server was Marco & he was knowledgeable about what wine tasted best with our meal. The food was packed with flavor and the perfect portions. If you get anything, definitely get the pork belly for an appetizer & the Date Cake for dessert (the candied pecans were EVERYTHING). Oh & their bathroom smelled amazing!! Weird, I know, but the candles they have in there? Soooo good I had to take a picture to order later! Support small businesses
where else can you go and get an adult happy meal that includes champagne, oysters and a burger and fries for $20??? omg this was the best happy meal of my life. the food was phenomenal, super simple but so well done. I literally walked here one afternoon after looking on yelp and tik tok to find food and found this gem. I literally could go back daily and be happy. the bar staff were so kind personable. the burger was cooked to perfection, the fries seasoned to perfection and the oysters super well done and the resturant was chill for a girls night, a single date or an intimate date night
We went to Herb & Wood to celebrate an anniversary and made a reservation for 7pm on a Tuesday. When we got there, the bar was pretty empty, so we decided to sit there instead since that's usually our happy place at restaurants. We weren't super hungry, so we decided to share a few appetizers and have some cocktails. We ordered the beef carpaccio, pork belly, and lamb lollipops, and everything was really good. The tahini sauce with the lamb lollipops was SO good--I honestly wished we had some bread or toast to soak up the rest of it. The beef carpaccio was tender, and I loved the mustard underneath. It added the perfect amount of flavor without being overwhelming, and the fresh arugula balanced everything out really well. The pork belly came over a squash purée with currants and somehow smelled and tasted a little like Thanksgiving in the best way. Cocktails were smooth and well made--we went with the Old Fashioned. Our bartender was attentive and checked in on us but also gave us plenty of space to relax and take our time, which we really appreciated. Overall, a really nice spot in Little Italy and a great place for an anniversary dinner. I'd love to come back and check out their happy hour next!
Great experience. The tuna cutting was free and a great show! Loved the tuna tasting menu- it's a good idea to share that and each order your own meal. Carrots are fantastic. Parking can be tough, but reservation service is fast and easy!
i loved my experience at herb and wood. the interior is so pretty with high ceilings and a moody lighting. the appetizers were so tasty, we got the beef carpaccio and duck toast. the duck toast was a standout, the meat was so tender and the sauces used complement the duck so well. the pork dish was so amazing, there was whole grain mustard that balanced the dish so well and the ibercio pork was tender and fatty. the beans were lovely! very happy with this dish. the gnocchi was just ok and we were disappointed in the portion size even though the gnocchi was pretty big, the sauce itself was alright. next time i visit i would love to try their wines alongside the dinner and i will be back!
We chose Herb and Wood from the Open Table options through the Chase Sapphire Reserve options. Would we come back? Very unlikely. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted, but not directed to walk around the waiting guests who were blocking the reception area. We were seated after waiting approximately 3 minutes. The hostess literally let the menu fall onto our plates instead of placing them. Our table was quite small to share plates, but the atmosphere was very cute. Our server Justin was kind and knowledgeable; we just wish he didn't recommend the steak medium well. Gnocchi was a tad salty, and the branzino frankly felt like bacon-wrapped fish. Service & food were out of proportion compared to the quality.
Attentive service and very friendly staff Delicious baba ganoush too that I forgot to take photo. We really enjoyed the ambiance and old school hip-hop music in the background. We were not dressed up for the occasion compare to others there. We just finished a day of conference and walked over while enjoying the afternoon sun. However it was a lovely dining experience regardless in good company.

Herb and Wood is a an iconic high-end restaurant located in the heart of Little Italy. It's been open since 2016 and I've passed by many times but only recently had the pleasure of dining here. Experiencing high end near fine dining is one of my favorite indulgences so I had high expectations and was very excited for a date night dinner at Herb and Wood with my wife. We had a reservation at 6:30 pm and were seated immediately without any wait. Service: Krista provided standout service, with attentiveness, good recommendations and an all around enthusiastic and pleasant vibe. Food: I highly recommend ordering a few appetizers and mains. Drink Iberico & Bourbon: really delicious, the fat wash gives this a delicious unique texture and flavor Appetizers Baby Carrots: really good flavor, a bit undercooked for my preference Grilled Corn: delicious and bursting with flavor, highly recommend Golden Potatoes: super crispy on the outside, warm and pillowy on the inside, rich buttery flavor, a must get Mains Pappardelle: delicious red meat pasta, perfectly cooked, rich deep flavor, highly recommend Grilled Iberico Pork Secreto: this one was my favorite, the layers of flavor were crazy on this one. The high end Iberico Pork was juicy and cooked just right. I wanted to soak up all the delicious sauce and the Canellini beans were the perfect touch to do just that. Overall a masterpiece dish. We were celebrating our anniversary as well and Krista got us a delicious dessert on the house. We also happened to come during the 10 year anniversary of Herb and Wood so we got to participate in a scratch of award and won a tote bag which Krista told us was the best award possible! The vibes and interior are top notch here. My only complaint was that table 541/1 was way too close to the adjacent table. We were literally listening to two conversations during our date. Overall would certainly come back for delicious high end dishes and standout service!
Made a Reservation for 5:15 and was sat right away with my party of 3 once the restaurant opened. Loved where we were sat! Nice and cozy seating space by the fireplace. Our server was attentive and the service itself was exceptional! The food was absolutely an experience! Delicious, decadent, rich, and exhilarating! Yes, eating at this establishment gave me all those feelings! Definitely coming here again for future celebrations!

I absolutely enjoyed Herb & Wood. The restaurant felt spacious with lots of fig plants throughout. The large bar that sits in the middle of the restaurant is lovely, with beautiful gold accents. We stopped by for the $20 Happy Meal, which included the most delicious, juicy cheeseburger, crispy French fries, three baked oysters bursting with horseradish butter flavor, and a glass of bubbly. It is definitely a Happy Meal for an adult! The value for what you get is worth it. The Happy Meal is only available at the bar for one hour, from 5-6pm., so plan accordingly. I will definitely be retuning for another hour of happiness. read more

Herb & Wood is a beautiful experience from the moment you arrive. The open-air setting is stunning, and on this particular night, the full moon illuminated the entire area. It really couldn't have been a better setting for dinner. Our server, Francesca, was wonderful, and the timing of the entrées was perfect. ROASTED OYSTERS & BONE MARROW Charred lemon, horseradish butter, country wheat This dish was decadent and very rich, but the flavors were exceptionally well balanced. The charred lemon provided just the right acidity to cut through the richness of the bone marrow and the creaminess of the oyster topping. Absolutely delicious and remarkable. FIRE ROASTED CORN Crumbled feta, mustard vinaigrette, Fresno chili aioli, chives Excellent. Another interesting combination of flavors that worked really well together. The dish had a great balance of richness, acidity, and spice. HALF CHICKEN Biryani spice, green tahini, pepper relish, Mediterranean herb salad The chicken itself was very good, but the green tahini wasn't for me. Full disclosure: I have an aversion to cilantro, and the sauce has a very pronounced cilantro and cumin flavor. If you enjoy those flavors, you'll probably appreciate this dish much more than I did. GRILLED IBÉRICO PORK "SECRETO" Apple mostarda, cannellini, pancetta, arugula The pork was excellent. My husband said it was one of the best pork dishes he's ever had. The combination of the tender, spiced pork with the creamy cannellini beans, crispy pancetta, and apple mostarda was incredibly balanced and thoughtful. Every component added something to the dish without overpowering the others. Overall, Herb & Wood delivered a memorable dinner. Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service, and food that clearly shows a lot of thought behind the combinations of flavors. The setting alone is worth experiencing, but the food makes it a complete dining experience. read more

Food: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Vibes and service were superb. I loved the ambiance at night as it was romantic. We had a lot of meat and seafood during the daytime so for dinner, we ordered the roasted oysters and bone marrow dish (2.5/5) and the cauliflower steak (3.5/5) and they were both underwhelming. Maybe it's better to stick with pasta/pizza here. Would not feel super inclined to return. read more

I was invited for a dinner at Herb and Wood. The ambience is casual but upscale. I like the vibe as the unicorn at the entrance provided a very special vibe. Our party has a private room which was upstairs. The set up was cozy. The wood table gave it a nostalgic and cozy vibe. The sever was very attentive and provided us drinks as soon as we set down. The company who invited us ordered so much food. From the appetizer, to entree and the dessert were top notch. If I ever come back to San Diego, I sure will bring my friends/family to this restaurant. read more
Went in to start a birthday celebration trying different walkable locations kin Little Italy. This bar service was exemplary; Alyssa was the perfect bartender this evening. Her cocktails were so good; one espresso martini and one passion fruit stinger!! The lamb lollipops were perfect and we left happy and ready to travel. Will go see her again soon! The food was amazing! This restaurant is located near LIttle Italy. All the food we had was delcious! The only reason why I am not giving this place 5 stars is because they did't serve any hot beverages: no coffee or tea to go with desserts. We had the following: 1. Braised Pork Belly 2. Branzino 3. Roasted Half Chicken 4. Pasta Pomodoro 5. Tuna Tartare 6. Avocado Toast 7. Japanese Sweet Potatoes I was attending a group work dinner and we had our private dining area. Service was excellent. I would come back here. For me, it was one of the top restauarnts in San Diego, The food was excellent. read more
Herb & Wood offered a variety of delicious American-Mediterranean food in a special, unique setting. I love the mushroom pizza, crispy broccoli and the grilled Iberico pork (secreto). The date cake was excellent - hot, moist cake with crunchy dates - a perfect ending to a fabulous meal. Our server, Dinesh, was very friendly, welcoming and attentive to our requests. What a meal! One of the best dinner experiences I've had in San Diego hands down, we went for my brother's birthday and had absolutely amazing service - I wasn't sure what to get but was told the gnocchi was unreal. And unreal it was! Oxtail and all: I genuinely almost licked the plate (sorry, mom). With a side of the broccoli that had one of the best sauces ever - I was in cloud nine. Food was yummy overall! Steak was cooked really well and the oxtail gnocchi was definitely my favorite. Broccolini was interesting and good to try, but I probably wouldn't order it again and would try something else next time. Chocolate ganache dessert was a little too sweet for me personally. No complaints overall, would come back and try more things! Great service and ambiance. Definitely a cute girls night or date spot. read more

I've been here a few times over the years and visited again last night with my husband. Restaurant is still beautiful and we were seated quickly for our reservation. We sat in the air-conditioned room of the restaurant up the stairs (which was nice, because the rest of the place was warmer and a little muggy as well as much louder). Table was cute and booth was comfy but the tables were very small -- especially for sharing things semi-family style. The servers were good at juggling and clearing our plates. We had the pork belly (husband's fave dish of the night) and the beef carpaccio to start. The pork belly was cooked perfectly and everything on the plate went really well together! So good. The carpaccio was also good, but my favorite remains the one at Cardellino. Still glad I ordered it! We also ordered the Parker House rolls of course -- delicious as always. Mains were fire roasted corn & Australian wagyu strip cooked to medium per the server's rec which makes sense given the fatty/marbeling of the cut. Meat was tender and the right amount of chewy and delicious. Corn was second favorite dish of the night. Both leaned on the saltier side but that doesn't bother me! The jus for the beef was great and good for dipping the rolls. We also ordered the oxtail gnocchi which was the third favorite. Pillowy gnocchi and super tender and flavorful oxtail -- really good. We had enough to share and bring some leftovers home. They gladly boxed things up as we went, too, which was nice. My husband had an old fashioned and I had two cardamom & tequilas with vanilla cola foam. Both were tasty! My second drink was heavy on the foam but I didn't mind. Our server, Douglas, was exceptional. He was warm, welcoming, went out of his way to make recommendations for us and was so attentive even though he was busy. He was a highlight of our experience and Herb & Wood is lucky to have him on their team. He also gave us a couple glasses of bubbles to end our meal which was so kind. 4 stars overall. Still a great place -- do I miss Chef Carlos at the helm? Yes, for sure, but the vibes remain similar. Would go back again. read more
The food were delicious and definitely chef quality dishes. The place is beautiful decorated and a great sense of style. I am rating 3 because of my personal experience on the service. The server made me feel awkward and felt annoyed because I was ready to order right away like I threw off the process of ordering drinks and appetizers first. When we were finishing up our food, we felt rushed. I thought it was only me but my partner felt the same way. I don't know if there was a dress code because we were wearing t shirts and shorts since we were on vacation mode and just happened to be in the area and wanted to try this place. The delicious food was definitely clouded by the unpleasant treatment we received by one server. The other staff were friendly and helpful. read more

We had a fun time here for dinner on a busy Saturday night. I had the hamachi as an appetizer and mushroom pizza for my entree. The hamachi was very good - fresh but a bit spicy for me. The pizza was made with a nice dough, but wasn't necessarily the best pizza I've eaten. For drinks, I had the Kauai Chickens and Smooth & Silk. The Kauai Chickens was a mocktail that was excellent and a good balance of savory and sweet. The Smooth & Silk was beautiful, not boozy and a good tasting cocktail. The restaurant is huge and beautiful with high ceilings and dark furniture. Service for the eight of us was generally good. Our server was friendly, but forgot the parker rolls. She could have been more timely with checking in our table throughout our meal. read more

I wanted to leave a higher rating, but a few issues kept this from being a 5-star experience. The standout dishes were the pork belly and the pork secreto, both excellent and worth ordering. The pizzas, however, were more hit-or-miss. We tried all three on the menu. The mushroom pizza was our favorite (I'd give it a solid 9/10). The other two were decent (around 8/10), though the chorizo and the fig + prosciutto versions both came out quite dry. Service was the bigger letdown. Our server, Alexis, seemed bothered by the number of dishes we ordered for a party of seven. I felt rushed when ordering and had to clarify that we weren't in a hurry since we were celebrating two birthdays. I'm not sure if the goal was to keep food coming steadily or to turn the table quickly for the next reservation. We also had an issue with the carajillos. I specifically asked if the bar knew how to make them. What arrived had no espresso, just coffee liqueur, and tasted like cough syrup. We sent them back. Later the manager explained the espresso machine was broken and they managed to make proper ones for us, which was a nice recovery. The surprise, though, was still being charged for both rounds without any discussion after we returned the first ones. On a positive note, the server did bring out birthday dessert for the two birthday guests, which was a thoughtful touch. The space itself looks nice, but it didn't quite live up to Michelin-star expectations for me. Overall, I won't be returning, though I'd still recommend it to friends or family specifically for the pork belly (especially over the kabocha squash). read more

And the branzino was cooked with no bones and in rolls- super unique!! I would skip out on the bone marrow next time since it was heavier than my liking. Wednesday was our 4 year wedding anniversary so we decided to check out Herb & Wood for their Adult Happy Meal that we heard about. It did not disappoint. For $20, you get Champagne, Smash Burger, Fries and Oysters. Everything was very tasty. It was my first time trying oysters and they were delicious. The smash burger was so yummy. Everyone that worked the bar was very nice and friendly. I appreciate the staff ensuring my husband food allergy was taken care of. Herb & Wood was really nice and the decor was very modern. Definitely want to go back and check out other dishes they have. read more
Booked reservations for dinner with the family. We were seated in their open courtyard area which was very nice during the summer. We ordered everything to share and it was all amazing! The steak was so tender that it was one of the best pieces of steak I have had in a long time. Another stand out dish was the mushroom pizza, which had a great earthy flavor with a nice citrus finish. The crispy broccoli and the Iberico pork were also great. The Iberico pork features the "secreto" tender and flavorful cut near the belly of acorn-fed Iberico pigs. It's their signature dish alongside cannellini beans, savory pieces of pancetta, and braised mustard greens. It is a must try. And if you have room for dessert, the Date Cake takes the cake! Decadent cake topped with toffee syrup, vanilla ice cream and candied walnuts added to the earthy menu of our meal. Excellent dinner accompanied by amazing service. Just moved to San Diego and had to check this place out after seeing their happy hour all over TikTok -- and it absolutely did not disappoint. For $20 you get a full burger, fries, three cooked oysters, and a generous pour of champagne. Such a steal. Happy hour runs Monday-Friday from 5-6PM only. We went on a Friday and got there around 4:45 to wait -- good thing we did because the bar was completely full by 5:03. If you want a spot, definitely arrive early! I was so excited to try this place in Little Italy because there are a lot of hidden gems here but I can honestly say. Herb and Wood is not one of them. Very over priced for what you get and the service is not Aligning with the priced and atmosphere.. We walked in and went to the host counter where np one was standing. After two minutes the host came up and asked for out names. She said they would call us when our table was ready. We were on time for our reservation and we waited for about 10 minutes. A group that arrived after us was seated before us. Once we were seated there was lots of crumbs on the booth side of the table we sat on and the host saw me trying to clear off the seat before I sat down. She offered me a new napkins which I accepted and then she cleaned off the rest of the booth Soni could sit. I think when they say your table is ready, it should be cleaned too.. Once we were seated our waitress spoke with the table next to us but then she disappeared for about 10 minutes before we saw her. When she finally came to out table she asked what we wanted to drink and we wanted to be polite so we asked for her name because she did not introduce herself.. my friend ordered a drink but I had water. The table was small the water glasses were even smaller, thankfully she brought a bottle lf water for us to fill ourself. When she finally came back to take out order, we had to ask if there were any specials. She said yes then informed us of them. I thought this was odd that we had to ask about the specials. We quickly tried to discuss if we were interested in the special and she walked away!! We were stunned honestly.. I thought it was completely unacceptable behavior.. We ended up ordering the Parker House Rolls, which are a special and not on the menu, and the Gem Lettuce. The Parker House Rolls were very good quality bread but the butter had so much herbs in it and it kind of ruined the bread. It was a bit too herby for me but this place is called herb and wood so I guess they use a lot of herbs. The Gem Lettuce had a very sharp and plant like flavor from the purple lettuce that almost tested like maybe we shouldn't be eating it.. there was also so much herbs on the lettuce. The seasoning and dressing was good but the lettuce wasn't the best tasting.. Once we finished our appetizers we were ready to order our entrees. We waited about 22 minutes before we gave up on waiting and waved down a different server. We explained we haven't ordered entrees yet and she gladly took our order. For dinner we ordered the Lamb Lollipops and the Prime Fillet Mignon with a side of Japanese Sweet Potatoes. The Japanese Sweet Potstoes had good flavor and were cooked nicely but stuck to our teeth as we ate them. The Lamb Lollipops were cooked nicely with a lovely crispy while also being medium rare butter was on a bed of sauce that wasn't really needed, and again had lots of herbs that wasn't necessary. The Prime Fillet Mignon came served sliced on a bed of au jus that would have been much better drizzled on top instead of a pool of it on the plate. The au jus on the steak made the steak taste like a pulled pork sandwich and completely ruined that beautiful steak. We were ready to leave at this point and again we could not find our server. When she finally showed you and handed us a dessert menu. We picked the Sweet Potato Souffle which a random server bought to our table and threw together in front of us which was a bit off putting. It had strong taste of nutmeg whichever gave off a Christmas vibe feel but not in a good way. It was just not what we were looking for. While the server carelessly threw our dessert together, we asked him if he could call our server. He said yes then said "actually you'd have to ask the manager" so I guess he was refusing to help us..? We spend a total of 2.5 hours there where we were honestly seated off to the side, forgotten about and ignored for most of the night.. the service was terrible considering they charge a 4% surcharge to help pay their servers then still expect you to tip. The food was just up to the standard of it's price tag and honestly it was so crowded with people and not enough workers. Just a super unpleasant experience and I truly wanted to leave after the appetizers because of how neglected out table was. Overall, I say this to be honest, a very unpleasant and disappointing restaurant that made me regret wasting my money here.. I do not recommend herb and wood. read more
We've been coming to Herb & Wood over the years for special occasions and nicer dinners. The food is great, the woodfired methods are well highlighted, and quality has always been consistently high. The branzino has been a favorite, as it's deboned, portioned and wrapped in crispy prosciutto. The $20 "happy meal" is fun and large portions, but I would recommend ordering the burger & fries individually as the oysters are not the best, and ordering separately isn't any more in cost. This latest visit sitting at the bar turned me off of their cocktails when I realized almost all of them are batched and yet are still $19 each and not described as batched on the menu. Despite the bartenders not shaking anything up, service at the bar is not great, so I would recommend table service. read more
In love with everything we had here. It is such a pretty spot in little Italy with beautiful modern decor and a lovely date night ambiance. The drinks were fabulous, and the Hamachi crudo was our favorite. The sauce has such strong, complimentary flavors with fresh hamachi, 10/10. My fiancée who doesn't love fish dishes adored this dish!! Potatoes were great as well, perfectly cooked. We were able to walk in to sit at the bar on a Friday night with no problem. Still one of my top spots in Little Italy, a go to. Such a beautiful bougie atmosphere, love the vibe! Really nice date spot or place to take someone to impress. Quite a large restaurant, I find it's not too hard to get into on a weekday or grab a bar seat, but weekend Friday/Saturday night it's definitely fully packed so grab a reservation for those nights. Food menu I feel like is packed of full of interesting fun items. Can't really go wrong here. The iberico secreto is one of my top picks hands down. It's like a ribeye steak, fatty, even a little crispy, juicy, tender, packed with flavor, it's hard to believe it's pork. The beans are a nice little touch but not quite a full meal if you're hungry. The entrees don't quite feel like a full enough plate on their own, and if I was going with 2 people, Id probably go for 2 entrees and a side of app as well. The half chicken is another go to, crazy flavor explosion here like nothing I've ever tasted. Very cool cocktails, can't go wrong here either really. My favorite is always the iberico fat washed Bourbon cocktail. It's like an old fashioned, but elevated, smoother, more unctuous. Love it. Forget the mediocre Italian in Little Italy and head here. read more

Although there is street parking, it's pretty hard to come by. There are parking garages nearby. I don't recall seeing valet so, not sure if they offer that.

Is there a dress code required?
People were dining in all manner of dress - from very fancy to very casual. Go with your mood, but Herb and Wood has a very chic decor. I was casual and was very comfortable.
Does your staff (servers and cooks/chefs) still wear masks?
They are not required to. I believe those who felt uncomfortable wore a mask, but our waitress did not wear one.
Is there currently a happy hour daily? Wasn't sure if it was still ongoing from 4:30 - 6?

Is there a COVID/ Limited menu right now or is the menu as is?
There were some items on the menu previously that were not offered yet when I last came in, most notably their wagyu steak offerings. The staff said they were going to start serving it again soon.
